Too bad about the mother-in-law.  (No, she cannot move in.  It's against the rules!)  I'm sure Rafael and Seiji will have no problem earning money, though.  And it was sweet of Rafael to choose Vegetarian as his last trait.  My sims mostly cook vegetarian meals because it just makes things easier.   :)

@BallerinaHippo
"Always cooking vegetarian" is easier in the sense that vegetarian meals are one-size-fits-all?
There haven't been any vegetarians in my P10 households yet, but I always hire the vegetarian caterer anyway.
I guess that's like your sims always cooking vegetarian?

Yeah, it's just easier to pick the vegetarian meals all the time.  That way I don't have to think about the traits of my household members and their guests whenever they cook.  It's laziness, really.  :)

Sorry for not replying sooner!  Had a lot of catching up to do.  RL difficulties.  Well, tonight and for the next three days it's all about the souls of the dead, All Hallows, so seeing ghosts, finding tombstones and making sure there is a connection is definitely the way to go!  I'll miss the trick or treat kids since I can't do the door thing and I'm home alone.  Should I be creeped out?  haha.  Loving your story so far.  Seiji is a lovely Sim but not sure how the same sex have kids thing works since isn't adoption a no-no for the heir?  In any case, it's great seeing how things are growing and changing.  Loved the visit to the San Mishuno home.
What?  Grannies can't play games?
I speak perfect Nooblik, (and some Simlish)!

You're correct that adopting an heir is verboten. However, gender customization is not. ;)
I'm sorry to hear about your RL difficulties and hope they can be smoothly resolved.
Any plans for a new story or a continuation of an existing one?

Power of 10/5.23: Drinks on the House (1 Nov update)
« Reply #184 on: November 01, 2019, 11:12:22 PM »
5.23: Drinks on the House

Wednesday, Week 25

Seiji: Now that we live together, what's the plan?
Rafael: The next few days are going to be awfully busy. *starts counting fingers
We need to try for baby and get married.
We also need to go fishing for dragonfruit and a cow berry.

Seiji: We haven't built a home yet, so that's top priority, too.
Plus, I'm a cat-lover. I get a cat, right? Right!?

Rafael: Can you believe my brother gave me grief for cooking in their kitchen?
I had to buy the Always Welcome trait to finish our wedding cake!

Seiji: Are you sure it's okay to be in your parents' bedroom?
Rafael: Yeah, Papa understands what it's like to be homeless.
He said he didn't want us to making babies in public somewhere.

Seiji: Why are you standing there smiling?
Rafael: Eh, Watcher missed taking a shot of you proposing.
So I'm waiting for her take another shot, showing how happy I am.
We're engaged and you want to throw up---Life is perfect so far.
Seiji: Huh, you're easy to please, aren't you?

Calico Club's wedding arch is waaaaay on the other side of the entrance.
Seiji runs over there as if it's the 50-yard dash!

All of our guests finally arrive at the wedding arch, too.
In the dark, Seiji and I exchange vows before our family and friends (but mostly family).

We do earn a gold medal for our wedding party, with no thanks to the venue.
First, it's unsuitable for an evening wedding because the wedding arch isn't illuminated.
Second, everyone kept getting into the pool. Even Seiji changed out of their wedding gown!
Personally, I'd only recommend Club Calico for a daytime elopement or a summer swimming party.

As soon as the party ends, Seiji takes a pregnancy test (which we already knew would be positive).
First-trimester baby bump!

Back at Tail's End, we finally lay down our home's foundation, outer walls, and roofing.
At this point, the house is barely furnished, so we go the Connections route for extra cash.
We want to raise our young in a fully feathered nest. Who doesn't want that?

We spend most of Thursday fishing.
It's evening by the time we've caught six dragonfruit each.

On the way home, we stop at San Myshuno's Art Quarters.
I buy a variety of fruits plus 18 strawberries for Seiji.
We're hoping for little girls that resemble a little of both of us.

By Friday, our Cape Cod home's exterior is complete, except for windows and outdoor flooring.
Inside, we still need floor and wall coverings almost everywhere.
Apart from the master bedroom, we've done nothing at all on the second floor.

Here's the back of the house. I'm experimenting with a smaller, L-shaped garden.
Ironic, right? I'm the dynasty botanist yet my garden's the smallest thus far.
Seiji and I are still discussing what to do with all the extra backyard space.

And we may rethink the open-ceiling great hall at the back of the house.
Maybe we'd make better use of that 2nd-story space as another patio?

Friday's my first day of work.
Before leaving home, Seiji asks again for a cat and promises to complete three tasks.
Fertilize our dozen dragonfruit plants, eat 18 strawberries, and read three skill books.
How can I say no when Seiji is trying so hard?

I'm delighted to bring home a promotion to the Botanist career.
The white coat makes me look oh-so-intellectual, don't you think? Hahaha.

After finishing the third book (at last), Seiji phones and asks to meet two kittens.
Mochi is a Siberian Forest cat. He's affectionate, friendly, and talkative.
Sasha is a Norwegian Forest cat. She's lazy, skittish, and a free spirit.

We both befriend Mochi easily, but Sasha initially hisses at Seiji.
Choosing Mochi is a no-brainer, but we don't like the name Mochi (it's Japanese for "pounded sweet-rice cake").
His new name is Mocha Pries. Welcome to the family!

Sunday, Week 26

After ending the adoption evaluation, Seiji has just enough time for a fertility massage before going into labor.
Meet our twin girls! We gave them names to go with our new kitty's name.

Kahlua is born first, followed by Chai.
Huh? No, I guess not.
The Pries dynasty doesn't have a cool naming system like the other P10 dynasties.

Once the sun rises, we take the time to change the orientation of our house.
Travel will be easier for everyone, now that the front door faces our lot's entry point.

If only Watcher had built the house this way in the first place…

We're planning to leave the twins with a nanny for several hours.
Seiji seems more loathe to leave Mocha behind than the girls.
I can't imagine why.
Mocha: I'm only a kitten for 2-3 days, you know!

Today's the Flea Market so we spend a few hours socializing there.
I've little hope that we'll complete a collection of MySims Trophies.
In any case, we end up buying everything on the table.
We're still missing 5, including one rare.  Fat chance!

Did I mention that "talking about Herbalism"  didn't boost my Herbalism level?
As Plan B, we go to Granite Falls where I try identifying 3 herb types in the National Park.
But there's no harvestable Poisonous Fireleaf, so we travel to the Deep Forest.
By identifying a Morel Mushroom, I max my unique skill. Finally!

On Monday, I earn another promotion then do one odd job after arriving home.
Seiji's hired a nanny and trying to prepare for the twin's toddlerhood.

While learning gourmet cooking, Seiji prepares a gourmet pet recipe for Mocha.
That Cubed Carcass Francetti certainly doesn't look very appetizing, does it?

We age up the twins as soon as their birthday notices arrive.
Here they are, right out of the bassinet.
That's our sixth-generation heir Kahlua with me, while Chai toddles toward Seiji.

Here they are again, post-makeover in their everyday wear.
Kahlua keeps her original hair because her color is lavender.

Curiously, both girls have droopy eyebrows, though neither Seiji nor I have them.
Could the founder's droopy eyebrows have made a reappearance?

Rafael's move-out requirements:  3/10
     1. Career: Botanist 6 (Stem Researcher)
✔️ 2. Unique skill: Herbalism 10/10
✔️ 3. Earned 10,000 satisfaction points: Yes
✔️ 4. Earned $10,000: Yes
     5. 3/10 good friends (including 1/2 non-human)
     6. 6/10 odd jobs
     7. 1/10 parties: Wedding
     8. 5/10 emotional whims
     9. 4/10 community lots for min. 2 hrs each
   10. 0/10-item collection

Watcher's Remarks
*Mocha: I feel bad for Mocha already because he deserves more attention.
Since Rafael married cat-loving Seiji and they live in Brindleton Bay, adopting a kitten seemed like a good idea.
We're missing out on Mocha's kitten days!
*Right after Rafael left Windenburg, I added cat-friendly objects to one rental each in Granite Falls and Selvadorada.
Elsewhere, my sims can make do with a portable litterbox, food bowl, and cat bed.

Yes, to both.  I haven't forgotten my alternate realities, am slowly working on something having to do with the magic realm, (very slowly), and am gathering together my brain and ideas for A Second Brew, (or something like that).  Darjeeling does not die!  However, RL is a real bear due to my own kindness and stupidity which will eventually work itself out.  Hopefully sooner rather than later.

Power of 10/5.24: Another Birthday (4 Nov update)
« Reply #186 on: November 05, 2019, 01:36:36 AM »
5.24: Another Birthday

Tuesday, Week 26

Here we all are at the dawn of a new day!
Gen5 heir: Rafael Pries (Cheerful, Loves the Outdoors, Vegetarian)
Spouse: Seiji Pries (Insider, Cat-Lover, Vegetarian)
Pet: Mocha (Affectionate, Friendly, Talkative)
Twins: Kahlua (right) and Chai (left), both Charmers

Seiji: After playing with the girls, Rafael leaves for work at 9 am.
He uses his Gift of Sulani on one of our money trees at every cooldown.
I harvest the garden then hire a gardener to do the rest of the grunt work.

My main garden task is to keep our dragonfruit plants fertilized.
I only do half for now and save the rest for when the twins are napping.

Mocha aged up to an adult cat soon after the twins became toddlers last night.
I feed him some catnip for now and promise to play with him later.

I need to do a better job of planning our days.
From now on, I'll save gardening for when the girls are asleep or busy.
Does every new parent struggle to find the right rhythm for the household?

Rafael gets home at 7 pm after his botanist work plus an odd job.
Meanwhile, the girls do flash cards with the nanny and their Uncle Tomas.
And I finally have some free time to spend with Mocha, poor little guy.
What's the point of living with Mocha if I don't have the time to spoil him?

Rafael: On Wednesday, I'm working from home since I'm so close to my next promotion.
Great timing yesterday for Seiji to have fertilized our dragonfruit plants.
They've all matured and produce dragonfruit now, though only 4 out of 12 are excellent quality.

Sorry if you think the garden talk is boring. I can hardly help it…I'm a botanist, remember?

Thanks to our great teamwork, I complete my collection this morning.
Fast, right?
Ten perfect moneyfruit, harvested off our tree on two consecutive mornings.  (Value: $44,450)

I was hoping that the twins would inherit Seiji's redder hair, but they share my hair color.
Their skintone is also exactly the same shade as mine.
The droopy eyebrows, however, are such a surprise!
Seiji and I can't wait to see what they look like as young girls.

When Kahlua is not making one of her goofy faces, she is surprisingly beautiful.
I believe she's going to age up with Seiji's lips and eyes.

Due to my early shifts and being able to work from home, this is my last odd job.
Now I'll have more time for my family.
Speaking of family, there are some new members I need to meet!

How surprising that it's still so sunny here in Windenburg.
Back in Brindleton Bay, night had already fallen.
Here are my twin sisters: wild Ellie (left) and clingy Anaya.

Toddler Play Date!
Of course, as soon as we arrive in Newcrest, it grows pitch dark.
Still, I've missed the whole family being together like this!

Our next heir Kahlua, in her party threads.

That's my mother in the middle, with my father on the far right.
Mama and I don't look anything alike.

My girls, sharing the love.
That's Kahlua with Ellie. I love her short hair with that singlet!
And that's Chai with Anaya. Anaya has the most mesmerizing eyes, but her outfit is tragic!

Seiji and I squeeze in a home date or two while the girls are asleep.

Saturday, we all visit Desert Bloom Park for some sun and clear skies (for a change).
I notice that I have a friend named Rieko Mori (left), who I don't remember at all.
Together with my former classmate Toni (who is still a teen!), I invite Rieko to the park.
They're both my good friends now.

Meanwhile, Seiji checks out possible spouse prospects for Kahlua.
Don't laugh but both boys are dog-lovers. Let's hope for more options later.

Sunday, Week 27

I'd planned to take the family to Sulani today, but this cat's been playing hard to get.
Meet Mr. Wriggles, my second non-human good friend!

The twins max all their toddler skills this evening, so I send them to bed early.
Then, I throw a house party to honor my grandparents.
That's Grandpa Brise on Seiji's right, and Grandma Arihi on Seiji's left.

We earn a gold medal for our party but that's not this evening's highlight.
I'd never seen Seiji's new party outfit until tonight.
Is he gorgeous or what?

Ugh! Another gloomy, overcast, depressing Monday morning!
Seiji lifts my spirits by changing back into dat party outfit and offering me a pre-work massage.

The twin's birthday party starts around 10 pm on Tuesday at Willow Creek's Municipal Muse.
Just past midnight, they blow out their birthday candles.

Seiji's tending bar because the mixologist we hired never shows up.
We're stuck at a silver medal because I just can't make a toast.
Look at Mama standing there with two glasses, but she won't join my toast.
Why is making a toast so hard? I've been trying for over two hours!

Finally, Seiji steps up and earns the girls' birthday party a gold medal.

And here they are, our two little ladies in their party apparel.
Our heir Kahlua is creative and Chai is (surprise!) cheerful.

Let's go home, folks! Mocha is waiting for us!

Thank you for dropping in!
This Brindleton Bay household is also my favorite so far, too. And the house has been easy to play in and throw parties.
I bet you favor this generation because of Mocha! He is the cutest, even though I don't know why his ears are set so low on his head.
It's very tempting to give Mocha age-down treats so he can move out with Kahlua later.

The Brindleton weather in spring, however, has been awful--always overcast with very short daylight hours, it seems.
I'm dying to see how Catarina's three toddlers age up. :D

Power of 10/5.25: Flower Bunny, Detailed (7 Nov update)
« Reply #189 on: November 07, 2019, 04:55:54 PM »
5.25: Flower Bunny, Detained

Wednesday, Week 27

It's 8 am but still dark as night.
The girls don't have school today, so they've started with Social Butterfly.
They can befriend whichever two adults later mentor them for Whiz Kid.

Now that the girls have aged up, they can use their Gift of Sulani as well.
Seiji's ecstatic to learn that she's no longer on dragonfruit duty.
From now on, the girls and I will take care of that.

Kahlua and her great-grandfather have become good friends.
She's just a child still, but she'll be counting him as her first good friend.

On Thursday, Kahlua and Chai enjoy their first day of school.
They come home with B grades to nobody's surprise.

That same evening, I receive my final promotion to Ph.D. of Pollen.
Does that mean people will call me Doctor Pollinator?
I certainly hope not.
Anyway, I'm quitting this job to become a gentleman of leisure.

Mocha stands guard while the girls craft their emotion potions.
If I don't keep the girls busy every minute, they'll start making a mess.
Was I like that as a child, too? Never, right?

How nice that the girls can spend the weekend as "A" students.
Here's a great shot of the twins with my parents and brother Tomas.
They've been a supreme help with mentoring!

When the girls start Rambunctious Scamp, we take them down the hill.
Quite handy to have that pirate gym so close to home!

We've got the girls practicing typing for the next few hours.
That means it's House Party time for the adults!
As you can see, we haven't done anything special yet with our backyard deck.

At our Kava Party, Seiji gives the first kava toast.
Wouldn't you know it?
When I finally manage to give the second kava toast, I'm so photobombed you can barely see me!

Why bother with a bubble blower?
I get a righteous buzz on with all the leftover kava.
When I pop a Dazed whim to "sleep it off," that's what I do.

Spring Fest Day!
Today's the first time any of the Pries heirs have seen the Flower Bunny.
Kahlua has to leave for scouts but not before making FB her good friend.

Seiji and I need to keep the Flower Bunny around until the girls get home.
We offer FB some wine and learn that they are a cheerful bro.
Who knew?
How can we make sure FB will stay awhile longer?

This worked!
Thanks to Seiji, the girls were able to successfully celebrate Spring Fest!

Meanwhile, I invite over a teen I'd met at the park last week.
Jaime Garvey, a gloomy child of the ocean, is my 10th good friend.

The girls complete Social Butterfly at Magnolia Blossom Park.
Politicians buy votes. Why can't my girls buy friends?

Sunday, Week 28

It's past midnight when we earn gold on our Incognito Party.
Salty Paws Saloon has a kitchen which makes it so handy for parties.
Grandma Arihi and Aunt Bunny show up in those newfangled robot costumes.

When Seiji paints a Sad masterpiece, they quickly make two more copies.
After a nap to wear off existing buffs, I get my 10th emotional whim: paint a sad painting.

The twins finish their fourth aspiration today, just before scouts.
And they earn their last badge (Keep Fit) soon after they get back.
No more scout meetings for these girls!

Now that the backyard is free, what shall I add: hot tub or pool?
Hot tub, right?

Monday evening, we take Mocha to the vet in Sable Square.
Just a routine check-up, which requires a preventative shot.
We also buy two age-down treats for Mocha for the future.
Just a possibility.

Early Wednesday morning, we write excuse notes for the girls.
Including today, they've only 4 more school days until their birthday.

Bored with playing doctor, they're off to volunteer at a soup kitchen.

We need to start looking around for viable spouse prospects!
I throw a dance party at Narwhal Arms, hoping for fortune's smile.

That dude with the crop top has been around for ages--an immortal maybe?
But his traits are horrid: jealous, slob, insider. No thanks.
The DJ's kinda cute, but pears are out!

I meet three male teens at the club tonight.
Aayan is a slob and a child of the ocean, but he's attractive.
Kyler is clumsy and a child of the ocean, but he's unattractive.
Then there's Aarav, the evil geek. No way, Aarav!

We'll just have to keep looking!

Kahlua: What are you talking about, Papa? Why don't you ask me?
My choice is Kengo Watanabe who is a high-school student.
He's neat and a cat-lover. Mocha would love him!

Rafael: We're not exactly sure how old he is, Kahlua. Let's keep a close eye on him, shall we?
Kahlua: Okay, Papa.

My dance party concludes on a tragic note.
Just as I'm preparing to end it, Grandpa Brise lifts his hand in farewell.
Rest in peace, Grandpa Brise. Know that you are deeply loved.

Coming next: Summer, teen birthdays, high school, yada yada

5.26: Purrlock Holmes

Thursday. Week 28

Rafael: Thing is, Mocha, we need your help to keep our tale from going stale.
Mocha: Sure thing, I'm happy to help but what do I do?
Rafael:  Could you take over as narrator for a few days? Until the twins' birthday party?
Mocha: Only five days? Piece of fishcake!

Rafael: Great, now if you could stop chewing on my dreads…

Mocha: Okay, then. I simply take over narration until Tuesday morning. I can do that.
If I'm going to be narrating, I need to exercise my vocal chords a bit.
You do remember that I'm a talkative cat, right?  La la la la la.

Next, a little fortification.
Ugh, I deserve so much better than this dry kibble. *sighs
There's gotta be better grub around here somewhere *glances around furtively

Um, no, I didn't nosh any of your human food!
Why would you think I'd do anything like that? *adjusts halo

Yes, yes. I can feel the inspiration rising.
I feel ready to start working on this generation's greatest mystery.

What mystery, you ask?
I'm investigating the approximate age of Kengo the Cat Lover.

One must very carefully consider every possibility!
Observing Kengo with utmost care kindles a vague memory from the past.
On a hunch, I look back through Rafael's photo albums! Aha!

It seems Kengo first showed up as a child around the time of the twins' toddler play date.
That would make him only a week or so older than Kahlua, correct?
Ahhhh, the age gap is almost purrfect!

Kahlua is just about to max Charisma, so I wait until she's done.
I'm sharing the news about Kengo only with Kahlua.
The decision whether to share my findings with others or not is up to her.

Kahlua couldn't be happier since Kengo is her favorite (mine, too, in case you can't tell).
She embraces me, murmuring words of infinite gratitude.
Awww, shucks! Tweren't nothing, dear Kahlua.

Mocha: Look, Kengo's back after school. Will you tell him?
Kahlua: Nah, no use talking about stuff like that while I'm still in primary school.
Mocha: So, after your teen birthday…?
Kahlua: Yep. I've decided to "show, not tell." Hehehe.

Kahlua: Can you keep an eye on Kengo, Mocha? Make sure he finishes the school project?
Mocha: Why don't you stay? And does getting him to finish your school projects even work?
Kahlua: Cuz I've already maxed Logic. And didn't you hear about my parents?
When they moved in together, Seiji had Logic 10, Handiness 5, and Painting 4!

Mocha: Wow, the power of school projects!

Mocha: Kahlua's been leader of the Garden Gnomes club since her last birthday.
Today, Rafael turns over the leadership of the Pries and Good Timers clubs to her too.
She adds Kengo to all her clubs, then explains to Rafael about Kengo's age.

Looks like Rafael is taking Kahlua's spouse choice seriously.
He's started grooming Kengo into his future son-in-law. They're even good friends now!

Speaking of, Rafael tells me this Toni was one of his spouse options back in the day.
I've seen her photos in his photo albums! That was 5 weeks ago during Week 23.
Why is Toni still a teen? Why?

Friday after school, we fly to Selvadorada for a vacation.
This is my first-ever vacation. I'm beyond excited!

Oh look! Chai's run out of things to do and finally offers me her friendship.
I give her a high five, but she looks puzzled. Where does she  live…under a rock?

Seiji surveys for a dig pile and ends up with one in our rental's  living room.
That just seems wrong!
And yes, Kengo has been maneuvered into completing yet another school project.
I'm hoping they'll invest so much time grooming Kengo that he becomes a keeper.
Even with a less than desirable third trait.

Rafael's Grandpa Brise and his grandaunts Helen and Bunny all passed away recently.
That's why he invited his Grandma Arihi along with us to Selvadorada.
Today is Arihi's turn.
Don't be sad! Arihi has been yearning to be reunited with Brise!

Grim: Hey, you there, Furball!
Mocha: I know you're not referring to me!
Grim: Just because Kahlua has age-down treats, don't think you can escape from me forever.
Mocha: We'll see about that, won't we? *flicks tail insolently

Sunday, Week 29

Mocha: You are my person. You will always be my person.
Kahlua: You're just saying that because we watched Grey's Anatomy reruns last night.

Mocha: You're still my person.
Kahlua: Give it a rest, Mocha. I've decided. When I move out, if I pick Kengo as my partner, you're coming with
Mocha: Wheeee! Since Kengo's a cat lover maybe I can even have two persons?

When we arrive back at the lodging, Arihi shows up as a ghost.
Is it because we invited her on this vacation, even though she passed away?

Kahlua takes this rare chance to become good friends with her Great-Grandma Arihi.

It's finally Monday evening. Rafael throws the twin's birthday party at the Sand Bar.
He gets lucky and completes the "Have an adult make a toast" goal right way.
Practice makes perfect, eh?

Um, the girls could use some new dance moves. Just saying.

Let's skip the birthday cake shots, okay? They're teenagers!
That's Chai on the left in blue.
On the right, Kahlua's making the moves on Kengo like there's no tomorrow.

Seriously, girl!
Don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today.

Quick, who said that? Benjamin Franklin or Maurice White?

Last I look, Kahlua is luring Kengo into a closet behind the Sand Bar.
Something about needing to "change his outfit."
Is that what they're calling it these days?

Let's give them a little privacy, shall we?

Good gracious, we are finally back home!
Those were the most exhausting five days I have ever spent in my life!
Never again shall I agree to take over the narration.

Well, unless Kahlua takes me with her when she moves then asks me very, very nicely…
Furthermore….ZZZZZzzzzzzzz….

Watcher's Remarks
*This update was supposed to cover nine days, but I ended up with too many screenshots of Mocha.
*I have no idea why Rafael's former classmate Toni has remained a teen for five weeks.
*Based on Purrlock's research, Kahlua and Kengo should both be teens for another week or so.

lol, I love Mocha, sorry, I mean Purrlock of course. I hope he narrates some more next generation. Kahlua makes me laugh too, getting Kengo to do all her school projects and of course, “changing his outfit”, surrrrre. Did Seiji have those skill because he helped Rafael with school projects then? I didn’t realise you could affect other sims’ skill points like that, I’ll have to bear it in mind. Shame about Arihi, but at least they got to see her again almost straight away. Rafael looks to be right on track with moving requirements as well, I can’t believe it’s almost time for Kahlua to move out, you’re storming through this dynasty! I’m definitely betting on you being the first to finish.
