Gem photos not taken into the skill journal
« on: December 28, 2010, 03:38:44 PM »
When my Max Skill sim takes a photo of whatever gem it wouldn't get tracked in the skills journal, although he get a notice that he has made a new object photo today. What is wrong? Late Night issue maybe?

Edit:
The gems name get noticed in the finder and nothing else is in the same cameras frame as the gem when I take the picture.

Have you tried saving the game, then leaving and coming back to see if it registered in the journal (use "Save As...", not "Save", just in case)?

Make sure nothing else is around the gem you are taking the picture of and also make sure that particular gem is what the finder says it is.  I haven't had any problems otherwise and I have Late night installed.

Also, not all of the gems register as a specific photo.  It's only certain ones that will be recognized by the camera.  The rest are nothing.

I normally don't do that. Only if I want to try something where it is necesarly to save inbetween. Is this something that has solved some related problems before, for you personally eventually?

Yes, that could indeed track some basic problems. But the finder named the corresponding gem though. I will add this to my first post.

I know, but these gems are necesarly to fullfill one photo collection, which is therefore necesarly to complete one challenge to fulfill 5 photo challenges. And THAT I need to make Max Skill worth his name. ;) And you know why, haha! :D

Well, it did solve an issue I was having with the photography skill, but it was more because the collections were all messed up and the stuff never counted properly.

I only ever do "save as."  For any family I play I have 2-3 saves, at different points in time, and I save every couple of hours.  It pays to have back-ups.

Also, my save files tend to get corrupted if I just do "save."  At least I think that's what the problem was:  I haven't had a corrupted save since I started keeping back-ups.

A very wise desision Hosfac. I do that too also, with important save files. But as I have a second 2TB harddrive I also make a copy from the entire Electronic Arts file.
I don't know how much your Electronic Arts file will take up, but mine sometimes hits the 15GB, mostly recorded videos, so yeah: I agree that it pays to have back-ups.

I haven't done videos yet, as I don't have any software to edit them.  I do take a lot of screen caps, but after I upload them somewhere I usually delete them from my hard drive.  But the idea about saving your entire folder is kind of neat!  I just wish I had a TB or two to work with...best I can muster is 140Gb :P

I will send you an email with more information according to that, because it would be to much off topic otherwise.
