Journal Entry 152: Grades and a Final Day
« Reply #210 on: June 06, 2021, 01:44:51 PM »
Saturday morning had us all huddled in the kitchen when our grades came in with Anoki thrilled that the Dean's leniency did indeed have his finishing the term with an 'A', just like me and Catrice.

But I was more concerned that Bella hadn't come home last night, and in my distress I shoved my breakfast plate right into Anoki's stomach.

Which had Anoki and Catrice urging me to go look for Bella.

So I took Bella's grade letter and headed over to the frat house to track her down.

Thankfully she was still there, which put my mind more at ease.

But she was still totally swept up in romance with Jeffery!

I gave Bella her term grades, but she actually frowned, saying, "Just an 'A', after all my outstanding effort! Seems like they could acknowledge superior work!"

The she tossed the letter nonchalantly into her backpack and encircled her arms around Jeffery's waist, asking, "Now where were we handsome, before we were so rudely interrupted!?!"

Jeffery brought both his hands up to caress Bella's cheeks, and murmured huskily, "I was just about to kiss you soundly, gorgeous!"

I laughed outright at this romantic display and said, "Rude? I brought over your grades and was worried about you since you didn't come home last night! Being family-oriented it's my prerogative to worry about family. But you're supposed to be the sensible, studious one, so why the sudden interest in romance?

Bella just stared into Jeffery's eyes as she said, "Simple sister, there's a time for study and a time for romance. I've studied hard and earned that measly 'A', so now it's time for romance. And I always give my current focus my undivided attention!"

Bella wasn't kidding when she said she'd focus on romance after finals. Which I found out soon enough!"

She followed up her words with action and put her heart and soul into the kiss she planted on Jeffery's willing lips!

Then she asked him to be her boyfriend!

He said 'yes' of course! And I was floored. Bella not only passed the semester with flying colors, but she had a boyfriend before I did!

That was a simple matter to remedy and remedy it I did.

I raced home and, finding Anoki in the living room, I grabbed his hands in my own, confessed my feelings for him, and asked him to be my boyfriend! Like Jeffery, his answer was an unequivocal, 'yes'!

Then I took it a step further and pulled him upstairs. As the elder twin, I was determined to be first in one very important way. But I'll keep in mind Mom's proper training and spare all of you the details and photos of that!

Catrice was checking the mail one last time before we left to go back home just as our maid, Josh Bluegill, was coming up the porch steps. The friendly greeting he gave Catrice made his interest in her more than obvious.

So after Josh was finished with his housecleaning duties, she engaged him in conversation.

She started off with the usual questions, asking his sign, and if he was attached in any way. Finding out that he was a Scorpio, a compatible sign to her own, and single, had Catrice feeling bold!

She planted a heat of the moment kiss on his lips!

And was totally unprepared for Josh's furious reaction! "I don't appreciate flirty come-ons like that Catrice! If that's the type of girl you are, then I'm not the guy for you! I want a real girl, someone honest, not someone that flirts with every Tom, Dick, and Harry on campus!"

Catrice burst into tears and apologized, saying, "I'm so sorry Josh! This is all so new to me. I'm barely a real girl at all! I guess Mia's right, I'm just not ready for romance!"

Josh was startled by her quick apology and her tears made him feel awful, "It's okay Catrice. But I don't understand…what did you mean by saying that you're barely a real girl?"

Catrice wiped her tears and sniffled saying, "I'm not sure I should have said that. You say you want honesty, but you probably don't mean it. Or won't be able to accept it anyway."

"Of course I want honesty between us! I think a real relationship begins with it and can only endure if both partners are completely honest with one another. What couldn't I accept about you, Catrice?"

"There's not an easy way to explain it so I'll just show you!"

Before I could stop her, Catrice changed into her doll form and revealed to Josh that she was an Imaginary Friend! The silence seemed to stretch on for what seemed like hours as Josh just stared at the figure before him.

Then Josh shocked both of us by enfolding Catrice in his arms, comforting her saying, "Now that explains a lot! I thought you were different, focused on your studies and playing your guitar all the time. But I thought maybe you were just a loner, shy around others. That's why that sudden kiss bothered me so much. I didn't want you to be like all those other flirty campus girls. But this, you being an Imaginary Friend Made Real, that puts a totally different spin on the whole picture! I can see why you haven't announced that all over campus!"

Against Josh's shoulder Catrice's words were a bit muffled, "It's supposed to be a secret! Besides my adopted family, you're the only one who knows. But how do you know about Imaginary Friends and that they can become real?"

Josh stepped back, smiling he said, "I'm a maid Catrice, service sims know everything! You're not the first Imaginary Friend Made Real to attend Uni, and I'm sure you won't be the last. A lot of students bring their Imaginary Friend dolls to campus with them, unfortunately most of them don't survive the journey. Those that do we're very careful to clean around if their best friends leave them out when they head off to class. But you're the first one I've ever had as a friend!"

At Josh's words Catrice snapped back into her sim form, asking, "So you still want to be friends with me!?!"

"Of course! You being flirty and fake is a deal breaker, but you being an Imaginary Friend Made Real, that just makes you even more special! I do have a request though…"

"Anything Josh! You name it and I'll try to fulfill it!

"For starters, don't be so quick to agree to what a guys wants…until you know what it is! That could land you in trouble, fast! But this time it's nothing like that, I just want to get inside out of this rain. Want to go to the coffee shop and grab a bite to eat?"

"I've a better idea. Let's just go inside the house where we can eat something and talk. I'll feel more comfortable without the chance of others overhearing us."

Suiting her action to her words, Catrice re-heated a couple of plates of pancakes and had eaten hers while Josh told her about himself.

"I've only been working as a maid to earn some money while I completed my degree. I'd thought about being a Blog Artist, since I like to dabble in art myself, but that didn't seem as practical as getting a business degree. But a business degree requires living in a town with business offices and opportunities, and there's nothing like that here on campus. This is strictly a college town and only offers part-time employment, not full-time jobs. And I haven't decided on what town I want to live in yet as this place is all I've ever known. With all that guitar playing you do, I'm guessing you're a Fine Arts major and you're so talented you could be a Rock Star!"

Catrice scraped syrup off her plate, not willing to give up any of the sweet treat, and replied, "Thanks! I'm glad someone noticed. It's not hard to tell who the Fine Arts students are as they've either got an instrument in their hands or a sketch book, so guilty as charged. As far as a job, music is my forte so I'll probably end up working at the theater back home. Not sure I have the dedication to become a Rock Star though, and it would be harder to conceal my past if I became a big celebrity."

Josh nodded, understanding that part easily enough, but asked, "Where is home?"

"Appaloosa Plains! Our farm is beautiful! And what I've seen of the town is amazing. I've been real here in Uni longer than I got to be a teen and young adult in AP and so far I've only seen fall and winter there. But I love the heat and just soaked it up on our graduation trip to China, so I can't wait to explore AP this spring and summer. See the rolling hills, sunny valleys, and especially fish in the crystal clear water up at Cinnamon Crest Falls!"

"It sounds like a wonderful place to live. I'm not much of an outdoorsman or a fisherman, but I'm brave enough to try new things, especially with the right person…"

The two of them headed upstairs to watch some TV in the private sitting area when Catrice got a phone call. "One of my friends is throwing a party and is reminding me about it. Did you want to go with me?"

Josh looked away bashfully and said, "I'd rather spend some more time alone with you, if you don't mind?"

Catrice smiled and said, "Then today is your lucky day because I was thinking the same thing!"

Josh nodded and said, "I do seem to have more luck than most sims and I'm really glad it had me getting to know you better."

Unfortunately, Josh's luck had just run out, as we heard the moving van honk outside. As Catrice and I scurried around gathering up last minute belongings, Mia and Anoki were having a hard time saying goodbye.

"I'll be back before you know it, right after Snow Flake Day and Winter Break!"

I couldn't stand the heartbreak in Mia's voice a moment longer and said, "Just ask him to come with us Mia and be done with it before the van leaves without you! You know that's what you both want!"

Mia swept Anoki in for a dip kiss, and asked, "It's what I want more than anything! Will you come home with me and meet my family, Anoki?"

Anoki answered quickly, "Of course! I didn't want to presume but I'd love to visit your home and meet your family Mia!"

With that settled we all grabbed Anoki's things and jumped into the van. Unlike our bus driver in AP, the van driver didn't even blink when he found out he had an extra passenger. Apparently, it's a common occurrence here in Uni, with students bringing friends home.

But then I noticed Mia was still standing on the sidewalk. So I rolled down the window and asked, "What are you doing? The driver's waiting and he's got other students to pick up and transport to the airport."

Mia smiled sadly and said, "Just saying my goodbyes to the place."

I wanted to laugh and say we'd be back soon enough, but by the look on Mia's face, I knew she meant it and wouldn't be coming back!

The girls and Anoki had all worked hard and ended the term with 'A''s, which made us all proud.

But Bella snagging herself a boyfriend before Mia!?!

Catrice revealing to a maid that she's an Imaginary Friend Made Real!?!

And Mia bringing her Uni boyfriend home to meet the family and saying goodbye to Uni!?!

Marley said it was only proper that Mia invited Anoki to the farm, since he didn't have any place to go, and that makes sense.

But Mia saying goodbye to Uni, and Bella thinking Mia doesn't plan on going back?

That just has my head spinning.

I'm glad the girls are on their way home, but I can't even imagine what's going to happen next as the girls have been throwing one surprise after another at us!

Journal Entry 153: Our Chicks Return
« Reply #211 on: June 13, 2021, 06:13:29 PM »

Marley, Dad, and I, along with Fareshine and Ripley, were all waiting in the front yard when our chicks returned.

Marley was just putting the finishing touches on a snowman when Mia breezed by with a suitcase, not even wearing a jacket, calling excitedly, "I'll be out to brush you Ripley as soon as I put this away!"

But the others were just hustling to get inside out of the bitter cold and wind.

Especially that island boy Anoki as his clothes weren't meant for this type of weather at all.

But as Bella passed by the snowman, Marley grabbed her and gave her a big hug, saying "It's so nice to have you girls home! We've missed all of you."

"We've missed all of you and the farm, too. Just look at all the snow art you've created! Not just the snowman but a huge igloo too!"

"Well, there's not as much to do on the farm in winter with all the outside garden plants dormant and the pond frozen, so we've made use of all the snow. But tell me, before we go inside, how is Mia?"

"She was pretty quiet on the trip home, happy that Anoki was with us, but kind of sad too. I didn't want to get into it on the plane."

"Well, I'm sure she'll tell us what's on her mind in her own good time. She doesn't stay down in the dumps for long."

"I hope so Mom! I was just so sure that she and Anoki were planning to complete their degrees, along with me and Catrice. It was a bit of a shock to realize I can't read her as well as I used to!"

But when I glanced out the window a bit later and I saw Anoki blowing Mia a kiss, with Mia fanning herself just like Mom used to, she didn't look sad in the least!

She looked like a young woman in love with an irresistible guy, the heat between them no match for the cold winter air!

I have a feeling that Mia might be getting a  very special present this Snowflake Day.

That feeling increased as I saw them share a passionate kiss!

Mia looks more than ready to further her relationship with Anoki, but I don't know if I'm ready for that yet at all.

Though I have been harboring a wish for Bella to settle down and marry of all things!

Sometimes the mind is a strange thing.

Maybe it's because with Mia being family-oriented, I know she'll end up with a husband and family, but Bella has always been so knowledge focused, I worry a bit about her ending up alone.

Though Bella sure surprised all of us being the first to have a Uni boyfriend!

With those thoughts on my mind, I backed away from the window, feeling a pang of regret that my little girls weren't little any more, and probably won't be mine for much longer either.

The next day was a busy one as Mia showed Anoki the nectary gardens where he quickly planted, watered, and talked to his eight new plantings all the while marveling at the grow station's capabilities.

Then Anoki got to marvel even more as he watched the basement fill with family and friends for Snow Flake Day!

If we'd known Anoki was coming we would have put off such a huge family gathering, in lieu of the recent loss of all of his own family.

But it was too late to cancel and probably better for the boy to be swept up in the festivities instead of trying to endure his pain on his own.

Most of our family and guests were on their company behavior, being extra polite to all.

Like Keri Loveland who sat so demurely beside Scott, all decked out in her prettiest dress, chatting to Kindle's youngest daughter, my niece, Brianna.

But there's always at least one sim that doesn't don't follow the rules, glorying in being rude more than others.

Case in point was one of my other nieces, Claire Schmidt, Karina's youngest daughter, who actually yawned when Anoki was opening one of his gifts!

"Could this be any more lame!?! Gift giving parties are for kids and we don't even have young kids in the family anymore!"

I'm sure Marley will have a few choice words to say about her improper behavior.

But with no one responding to Claire's bid for attention, except for Karina telling her to find a seat, the party continued with my nephew, Evan Gallo, opening up another gift.

As Evan happily chatted about the new easel he'd gotten, one of our gardeners found a present with his name on it.

He seemed a little wary as he opened it and frowned when he saw the pink flamingo, but his frown turned into a big smile when he found a bonus check inside!

Of course there were other gag gifts.

Some appreciated, like the gnome Dad got!

Others not so much.

Especially when it was lumps of coal!

But coal wasn't the topic for long when, just as Scott opened his gift, Lynn Loveland stood up, turned a bit green, clutched her stomach, and ran for the stairs!

This had my nephew, Bryce Schmidt, running after his girlfriend Lynn, prompting my brother-in-law Ben to follow both of them saying, "Great party Diwan! Thanks for the invite. I better check on Bryce and Lynn. Looks like Claire was wrong and we'll be having a little one in the family soon enough!"

Tyler Gallo shot Ben a look saying, "Make that two, Uncle Ben! My Claire can't let her twin do anything on her own, so we'll be parents soon as well!"

That announcement led to an even bigger exodus as both my sisters and their families were eager to congratulate both sets of parents-to-be!

It was at this point that I decided to check out the few presents remaining.

But when I heard Anoki say, "Looks like a lot of your cousins are in love Mia", I immediately focused on them, expecting Anoki to produce that special gift, and in my nervousness I started clapping…

I'm not sure if that threw Anoki off or what, but no little black box appeared.

As both Marley and I watched, Anoki just drew Mia in his arms and kissed her, murmuring, "Happy Snow Flake Day! I didn't think I'd have anything to celebrate this year, but you and your family…it's been a comfort to be here with all of you Mia. Being not only accepted, but welcomed with open arms, and even given my own gardening plot with one of those amazing grow stations. I can see why you love it here!"

Mia's response was to hold Anoki tighter and kiss him gently, saying, "Everything I love is on the farm. My family, my horses, and now you! Spring is right around the corner and soon all the growing things will be coming back to life in the main gardens. Mom grows her nectary grapes down here all year round, but she was happy to let you have your own corner plot. How are they doing?"

"I just planted them before the party, so they probably haven't done much yet!" he said with a laugh.

Mia said, "You haven't even seen the grow stations coolest feature! Come on! The Sunflowers should have produce sunlight blossoms for the composter by now!"

"Sunlight blossoms? What are those?"

Mia pulled Anoki over to his garden plot, gathered up several of the bright yellow blossoms and explained, "The Sunflowers make these and if you place three of them in the composter the results are amazing! But first plant a few more seeds. You've got plenty of space for more plants and they'll all benefit from the compost."

We watched as Anoki planted another half dozen seeds, placed the sunlight blossoms in the composter, cranked the handle, and stood there in shock as all his plants and the existing peach trees grew to their next stage of maturity right before his eyes!

He whistled in admiration, quickly gathered three more blossoms, followed the process again and was astonished when five of them reached perfect maturity and counted towards his lifetime wish!

Mia and Scott had helped themselves to plates of food from the buffet while Bella, having finished eating, was now reading the latest novel that had arrived in the mail from the book club membership we'd given her as a Snowflake Day gift.

When Anoki strode towards Mia again, I thought this would definitely be the moment, as he blew her a kiss!

But then he just asked her to watch the stars.

To my surprise, instead of settling down on the back porch, the two of them cuddled up together right in the snow!

Anoki was soon pointing to the sky saying, "There's Sirius! Just think, when I was home on the island and you were here, we were looking at this same sky!"

Mia didn't even glance up but said, "Seeing the same stars even when we were didn't know each other. But I'm glad we're together now."

Anoki's response was to pull Mia closer and I thought for sure it would lead to the big moment!

But after a few more minutes of cuddling and star watching, they dusted off the snow and Mia grabbed Anoki's hand and tugged him toward the frozen pond, saying, "I'm sure skating on ice isn't something you got to do on your islands. You've got to try it before the weather warms and makes the ice unsafe."

Anoki was a bit unsteady, but with Mia by his side they were soon circling round and round on our pond, hand in hand, no one in their little world except the two of them.

So it was no surprise when we heard the unmistakable sound of husky laughter and romantic sighs coming from the igloo they'd quickly built together out back!

I questioned Marley about this being proper, since Anoki hadn't proposed yet, but she just smiled at my naiveté and said, "Diwan, it's a natural step in the process."

"The process?"

"Yes, dear. The embraces, the kisses, watching the stars, ice skating hand in hand, even sharing that igloo. It's plain that Anoki is courting our daughter!"

Mia and Anoki weren't the only ones caught up in romance as I found Bella in her sleepwear, dreamily writing a love letter hours after we'd thought she'd gone to bed.

I didn't interrupt but I couldn't help but wonder which of her loves was the recipient of her missive.

One of her admirers in China or her new Uni boyfriend?

For her sake, I hope it's not the married guy!

As much as I want Bella to marry, I don't want her breaking up someone else's marriage to accomplish that!

We had an eye-opening Gift Giving Party on Snowflake Day, where it was revealed that two of my nephews and their twin sister partners were soon to be parents!

And romance is going full speed ahead in our home as well as Anoki courts Mia and Bella writes love letters to one of her suitors.

How either of those will turn out, I can't say, as I've already proven I know nothing about romance and courting!

But I'll be keeping track and writing it all down so it's all recorded for future generations.

Journal Entry 154: Romance Is In The Air!
« Reply #212 on: June 22, 2021, 02:15:16 PM »

It was a good thing that Mia and Anoki took the opportunity to skate on the pond on Snowflake Day and build that igloo as the weather began warming the very next day.

The temps got so high that the snow was gone by mid-day!

I found Mia and Anoki in the stables, so wrapped up in each other they didn't even notice when I strolled into the barn.

How I could have expected Anoki to propose to Mia just after being on the farm one day?

I'll never know because it was clear, now that Marley had pointed it out to me, that Anoki was courting Mia, not rushing her, but giving them both time to explore and enjoy their romance to the fullest.

Seeing the expanse of green on the lawn, instead of cold snow, Scott rushed outside and took a deep breath of the warm air, reveling in the return of Spring.

But with it being Saturday, he wasn't going to enjoy this beautiful day on his own.

And it wasn't long before Keri Loveland had joined him on the front porch.

I don't know if it was his sisters' examples or just regular teenage hormones, but Scott didn't waste any time in furthering his relationship with Keri.

Holding her hands as they stared into each others eyes.

Giving her a bouquet of flowers, which usually melts any females heart.

Keri was no exception, delightedly breathing in the scent, as she said, "Oh, how beautiful! And such a vibrant red, those will definitely brighten up the mantel in the living room."

"Or maybe your bedside table so you think of me before you fall asleep and first thing when you wake up?"

"What a dreamy thought! I never knew you were so romantic Scott!"

Scott caressed Keri's cheek showing her just how romantic he could be without using words.

He followed it up with a tender kiss as he asked her to be his girlfriend!

And they celebrated their new status as a couple with a make-out session, until I cleared my throat and they became aware that they had an audience!

Scott was a little embarrassed as the two of them parted, so I thought fast and said, "It's too late for a movie, but I hear there's a concert at the stadium tonight! If you hurry you can make it there before it starts."

Which is how Scott and Keri ended up going on their first date as a couple!

I may not be a hopeless romantic but I have my moments.

With the night so mild, we all gathered around Catrice as she played her guitar under the pale sliver of moon that had appeared in the sky.

Anoki and Mia listened but were still mostly focused on each other as Anoki took a photo of them with his phone.

Which then led to them watching the stars together on the back porch while Catrice grabbed some dinner.

I settled down on the bench under the willow, reading one of my fishing books and enjoying the sound of lapping water as a breeze rippled over the pond.

But Mia hadn't been ignoring her favorite pets and she made sure Ripley was brushed, had clean hooves, and got plenty of attention as she'd missed him while she was at Uni.

In fact, over the next week, Mia spent most of her days at the training grounds, building up her own riding skill as well as increasing Ripley's racing prowess.

With all the time she was spending at the training grounds, she even met up with her Aunt Karina and her horses.

Even though Wayfarer was an elder horse now, she still kept him exercised.

Wayfarer and Sunshine's male foal, Fareshine's sibling, Baron, had grown into a stunning stallion!

But Mia's equine focus wasn't just on Ripley, with her own riding skill increased, she felt confident enough to ride Fareshine.

With all of the training Mom had done with Fareshine, it wasn't long before Mia's training had Fareshine in top racing and jumping condition!

She'd even purchased a proper riding habit and helmet, showing us just how serious she was about becoming a horsewoman.

But while Ripley was progressing in his racing skills and Mia had just started him on jumping, it was Fareshine she actually entered her first race with!

It was an International race and, though they didn't win, they placed a respectable fourth.

While Mia was busy with training and racing, Anoki focused on his garden, and with the help of the grow station and sunlight blossoms, his plants soon reached the harvestable stage.

With most of them being perfect seeds, his lifetime wish was completed much sooner than he ever expected!

As I thought about that I realized that could also have been part of Anoki's reason for not proposing to Mia earlier.

Like me, maybe he'd wanted to be closer to his lifetime wish before settling down and focusing on family?

If that was the case, he'd actually done just that!

But unlike me he hadn't decided to marry sooner rather than later and freaked out his intended bride because of it, like I had done with Marley!

When he was done tending his own plants, I invited him to help me in the main gardens and divulged how I'd nearly messed up my own relationship by not sharing with Marley how my feelings had changed, wanting to marry sooner rather than wait.

Anoki said, "Mia and I have become even closer since leaving Uni, sir, but we haven't discussed future plans much, except for us being together. But I was wondering if it's possible for me to look into a career other than gardening? I love it, but your established farm and the grow station made completing my lifetime wish effortless and I'd like to do something that would be more of a challenge."

"Did you have a specific career in mind?"

"Yes! After talking with your sister, Karina, I'd really like to work at the Science Center here in town! My gardening skills will be put to good use and I could add to my fishing skills with your well-stocked pond until we get a place of our own. Karina even mentioned that they have a few entry level positions open now!"

"But what about the credits you earned towards an Athletic Degree? Don't you want to pursue that?"

Shaking his head Anoki answered, "Not really sir. Me becoming a star athlete was something my parents wanted for me. I thought pursuing it would be a way to honor them, but Mia helped me to see that me being happy with my life would make them even more proud, as they watch over me from the lands of our ancestors."

"Sound reasoning. The Science Center would be getting a good man, but is that the only thing on your mind?"

That's when Anoki proved Marley's courting theory as he turned to me and earnestly asked, "I know I don't have much to offer Mia, Mr. Swanson! An entry level career, no home of my own or any belongings, though I will inherit some family funds as the sole survivor…"

The hurt in the poor boys eyes as he said those words prompted me to say, "You have a lot to offer any young woman Anoki! You're honest, a hard-worker, you have a deep love for family, and you're obviously in love with our daughter. Don't discount any of that as those qualities mean a lot, more than simoleans to me!"

Anoki placed his hand on my arm, both his hand and his voice trembling just a bit as he asked, "So does that mean you'd approve of me marrying Mia!?!"

I nodded, and gave him a big smile as I said, "Marley and I would be honored to have you join the family and call you our son, Anoki. Mia couldn't have chosen a better man!"

"That means a lot to me sir! But…will you expect me to take the family name?"

"If you wanted to, it would be fine with us." Gentling my voice, I added, "But it's not a requirement for non-heir sibling spouses. Especially with you being an only son, the last of your line, so it's understandable that you'd want to keep it going. Moon doesn't sound like an island name though."

Nodding his head, Anoki said, "You're right, it's not. Legend gives us the origin of the name Moon*** and tells us it was first bestowed as an honor. Here is the story as it was told to me and to my father and grandfathers before me:
'The Norsemen were great travelers and some of them went to France and settled in what is now Normandy, becoming a part of the Normans. They had a brotherhood called the "Order of the Crescent", the men of which were tall, with fair complexions and blue eyes, with character above reproach. When William the Conqueror, Duke of Normandy, invaded England in 1066, the Order of the Crescent accompanied him. One of the native strongholds proved to be very stubborn and the duke was unable to take it. He called for volunteers and the Order of the Crescent stepped forward. They successfully stormed the castle and William ordered that each member of the brotherhood should be called Moon, in honor of the event'."

Continuing he added, "One of those men sailed to our islands many years later with Captain James Cook*** and though relations between the two groups took a bad turn, one of Cook's men fell in love with an island girl and as the girl shared that love, his life was spared. The two lived long lives bringing forth many sons and daughters. Those sons and daughters married other islanders and eventually the fair complexion and blue eyes no longer appeared, but the height and strength continue to this day! My first name is very much from the islands as my mother wanted to call me 'Ano', meaning peaceful, and my father, 'Ki', meaning strong, so they compromised and put the two together!"

"A wonderful family history to pass down to your own sons and daughters, Anoki! I'm sure you and Mia will choose your own children's name just as wisely. Children I am looking forward to calling my grandchildren!"

"You wouldn't mind us using island names?"

"Not at all! I even encourage it. Using family names to honor families that have married in is a Swanson tradition! My father's full name is Leonard Diwan Kindle, hence my name and my eldest sister's name. Our sister Karina was named after my paternal grandmother, Karie, a name that was passed on to Karina's eldest daughter."

"I'll keep that in mind sir and discuss what names Mia would like to use as well. Though I won't bring it up quite yet!"

"If you were courting Bella, I'd agree. But Mia? I'm sure she's already thinking about it as she's been all about family every since she was a little girl!"

A lot has happened since Snowflake Day and the return to warmer weather.

Scott and Keri are now going steady and have gone on their first date.

Mia's been training both Ripley and Fareshine, and with Fareshine as her mount has competed in her first race.

Anoki's completed his lifetime wish as, with the assistance of the grow station, he's now got 15 perfect plants to his credit, not just the required 8!

And with his lifetime wish completed, he's putting his gardening and fishing skills to good use as he begins a career at the Science Center.

He also asked me for Mia's hand in marriage, something I was more than thrilled to endorse as Anoki is a fine young man.

I'm not taking any bets on when he's going to pop the question as I thought it would happen on Snowflake Day, but I'll make sure all the pertinent details get written down.

Journal Entry 155: Love Day Surprises
« Reply #213 on: June 29, 2021, 12:24:21 PM »

Catrice was the first one in the family to check out the Spring Festival.

She met Keri Loveland there, who was with her sister Claire and her brother Kyle.

But with her love of the warm spring weather, Catrice didn't stay in the barn for long.

Unfortunately, the weather was not just warm, but had turned wet as a heavy spring rain poured down!

As Catrice covered herself with her umbrella which wasn't doing much to keep her dry, she decided that playing her guitar in the rain wasn't very appealing.

But she couldn't resist the call of one of the booth attendants as he said, "Help out a worthy cause, Miss!?! All donations go to charity!"

Catrice quickly paid the fee and asked, "What do I do now?"

The man chuckled at Catrice's innocence, pulled her towards him, and kissed her!

Despite, or may be because of,  Catrice's first foray into the social scene here in AP as a young adult, she was accompanied by Bella, Mia, and Anoki, when they returned on Wednesday to celebrate Love Day.

Catrice played it safe and kept her back to the kissing booths as she danced to the lively spring music.

Bella played horseshoes with Cruz Martingale, who was still one of the most eligible bachelors in town, even though he was in his adult years, with elderhood fast approaching as he was close to my own age.

So I'm glad the two of them kept focused on the game and not each other as, though I know age isn't everything when it comes to relationships, I was still old-fashioned enough to want Bella choosing a partner closer to her own age.

Anoki had the day off in honor of Love Day and he made it more than just a group outing by asking Mia out on a date.

The first thing they did was use the Love Inspector machine and nearly blew the top off it as their couple score raced upward with the machine's bells and whistles all blaring the message that the two of them were 'Uncontrollable'!

The kissing booth attendant acknowledged the results with a nod and knowing wink at Mia, saying to Anoki, "You're a lucky guy!"

Mia blushed a bit and said, "That's the same guy who kissed Catrice! What nerve, intruding on our private moment!"

Anoki just clapped and said, "Kissing booth attendants have to be pretty outgoing, it comes with the job! But as long as he keeps it to nodding and winking from a distance, he can envy me all he wants!"

Empowered by the Love Machine's results, Anoki grabbed Mia's hand and tugged her towards the pond.

He presented her with a beautiful bouquet of red flowers, the look on his face one of hopeful expectation.

Then, with the fountain tinkling in the background, Anoki dropped to one knee, stared adoringly into Mia's face, and popped the question I had expected on Snowflake Day!

"Mia Swanson, I love you with all my heart and soul, will you do me the honor of sharing my name and becoming my wife!?!"

Mia didn't even hesitate as she held out her hand for Anoki to slide the ring firmly down her finger.

Then she leaped into Anoki's waiting arms, throwing her arms around him shouting, "I love you so much! Of course, I'll marry you!"

Mia then pulled him close and whispered, "Being engaged makes everything so much more official. We'll have so much to talk about when we watch the stars together tonight."

But since it was way too early for that, they celebrated their engagement with their first formal couple photo.

Introducing the newly engaged Mia Swanson and Anoki Moon!

Seeing them side by side, they make a striking couple, but more than that, their love for each other is plain for all to see.

They enjoyed the festival together for the rest of the day, playing horseshoes, strolling around hand in hand, and dancing as the sun set and a breeze wafted through the park, totally focused on one another.

Even though an eligible male nearby kept shooting her interested looks, Bella, true to form, had opted out on dancing, choosing to read a book on her multi-tab.

The pair ended their day by indulging in their favorite past time, watching the stars together under the bright open sky of the Spring Festival grounds.

Anoki looked a little pensive, to be expected of a newly engaged man that has taken the first step towards marriage and a family, with all the responsibility that entails.

While Mia's eyes were huge and bright, her smile sweet as she gazed upward, thinking of all the times that they would do this in all their future years, years filled with love and expectations of a wonderful life together.

When Scott showed up on his way to pick up Keri for their dinner date, Bella grabbed her twin and hustled her brother off to the photo booth for their own sibling photo.

Though Mia was surprised that Catrice wasn't around to be included.

Bella laughed and said, "Your head has been in the clouds ever since Anoki proposed, Mia! Mom called and asked Catrice if she'd play for a bit at Aunt Karina's party. She left hours ago!"

So that was how Marley, along with Karina and her guests, were the ones to witness Catrice maxing the guitar skill and completing her lifetime wish!

Catrice was so happy that she'd reached such a milestone that she celebrated by adding her own rockin' guitar riff to the song she was playing!

By the smile on cousin Ian Kindle's face, Catrice is well on her way to becoming a superstar!

Up the road at the Loveland/Singleton household, Scott and Keri were flirting, out of sight of the rest of Keri's family.

From what Keri has told us, both her older brothers and her younger one tease her mercilessly whenever she has friends over, especially a boy, so she keeps a pretty low profile to avoid it as much as possible.

As the sky darkened and was littered with sparkles of light, Marley and I got a bit romantic under the love day stars ourselves.

We might be adults now, with grown daughters and a teenage son, but that doesn't mean we can't show affection for one another.

In fact, I hope we're as affectionate in our elder years as Mom and Dad were!

Even though they'd done so at the Festival, Mia and Anoki settled on the lawn to watch the stars together.

It was part of their typical end of the evening routine here on the farm.

A way to relax, unwind, and let all that had happened that day wash over them and settle in.

And now, as an engaged couple, they seemed to glow almost as much as the stars.

I don't know if it was because I'd mentioned them, or because it was Love Day, or just because there love was still so strong, maybe all three reasons, but familiar music had me peeking into the nectary basement.

Where I found Dad and ghostly Mom having their own romantic interlude!

Dad gave her a flirty look which had Mom going all bashful.

Then he blew her a kiss, and even though she'd been on the receiving end of this gesture since she was a teen, it still made her sigh and swoon as she captured it against her cheek.

A fitting end to a love filled day, one that had me revising my thought from earlier.

Rather than just have our elder years filled with love and passion, I hope Marley and I continue our love affair with each other even after leaving this world, sharing a love so deep that it surpasses death.

Just like the love Mom and Dad continue to share.

Mia and Anoki are now engaged after a romantic Love Day proposal!

And with Bella chomping at the bit to get back to Uni, I'm thinking it won't be a long engagement at all.

But I've been wrong before, so we'll see if I'm reading my daughters right this time!

Whatever happens, I'll be writing it all down to share with future generations.

Journal Entry 156: Bachelor Bash
« Reply #214 on: July 02, 2021, 08:12:35 PM »
***Author's warning: Excessive drinking is notated within this chapter, though no sims or animals came to any harm. But remember to drink responsibly because it doesn't always play out that way in RL!

The next day Anoki went off to his 1st day of work at the Science Center and enjoyed it immensely.

Seeing the fisheries, the laboratories, the arboretum with all the exotic plants, he couldn't stop talking about just how incredible his day had been.

But when he got home Friday, I was pretty shocked to find that a lab experiment had gone wrong, and Anoki was singed from head to toe!

Kimo was just as worried as I was as he sniffed and barked his distress when he greeted Anoki.

Anoki told us it looked worse than it was, as his skin wasn't burned, just covered in ash, and after a shower he'd be just fine.

And he cleaned up well, looking pretty dapper when the first guests started arriving at his bachelor party Friday night.

But when Dad asked if Mia had started peppering him with questions about wedding details yet he looked a bit confused as he asked, "Details?"

Dad responded with, "You know, when, where, time of day, guests, flowers, cake flavor, snacks or full buffet, casual, semi-casual, semi-formal, formal attire, traditional or from-the-heart wedding vows…"

The longer Dad's list went on the more color drained from Anoki's face!

Scott shot a sympathetic look at his soon to be brother-in-law and said consolingly, "Don't worry Anoki, from what I've heard from my older cousins, most bride's don't really want to do things the grooms way, but they have to ask, and you have to respond. Whatever you do don't say, 'I don't care,' that just makes them cry and say you don't love them!"

Taking pity on the soon-to-be groom, Dad added, "My advice, son, is to wink and say, 'The wedding details are your department honey, it's your day and you should make it as special as you want. I'll focus on the honeymoon details, just let me know when!' Follow that with a flirtatious grin and if anyone else is in the room, you'll have your prospective bride blushing a bit and rushing off to secure the earliest date she can get!"

Anoki, as well as a few bachelors who were listening, nodded sagely, and agreed, saying, "Now that's the best advice I've heard yet. Thanks sir, we appreciate it!"

With the guest of honor now more at ease, the party began to liven up.

Especially when the party dancers arrived, both blondes, one a vampire and one having fairy wings that were green and sparkly!

The huge crowd started gravitating towards the bar, where the first blonde had started dancing.

After the show was over, the two dancers hung around and made there way through the crowd.

The blonde fairy flirting outrageously with Dakota Fox, "I know the guest of honor's spoken for, but what about you, hot stuff!?!"

Dakota got a deer-in-the headlights look on his face and quickly glanced at Anoki, begging for help!

Anoki just grinned and said, "Don't keep the girl in suspense, hot stuff, answer her question!"

But then he grabbed a bottle of nectar, shook it…

And started a free for all!

Soon half the guests, and most of the club floor, were covered in the wet sticky drink.

Though some of the guys, including Dad, who was almost drowning as Evan sprayed him, did their best to swallow as much as they could, laughing in between gulps!

Then the vampire dancer tried to grab a bit more attention by singing an impromptu karaoke number.

Which didn't go over well, with either her fairy co-worker or the guys, as her voice was definitely not as good as her dancing.

The bride-to-be had a much more sedate evening, as she swam in the community pool with her sisters keeping her company as they discussed possible wedding themes.

Mia said firmly, "I want something outdoors, something simple, not fussy!"

Bella thought a moment as she stood by the edge of the pool and said, "Why not a traditional Island wedding at the beach in town? That might make Anoki feel more at home."

"That's a great idea! Mom, do you think we could put something like that together, fast?"

Marley, relaxing in a lounge chair nearby, turned pensive as she mulled over what would be needed for a beach wedding and said, "That should be easy enough. How fast?"

Mia's voice rang out, "Tomorrow, it's supposed to be a beautiful day!"

"Tomorrow!?! I'll make some phone calls and see if it's possible. But I better give your Dad a heads up before that bachelor party gets out of hand."

When Marley called me with that little tidbit of information, I did my best to put a halt to all the fizzy nectar spraying.

As well as trying to stop the mixologist from making anymore serving trays of drinks at the open bar, which had been circulating freely throughout the club all evening.

I was worried about Anoki the most as I knew Mia and Marley would never forgive me if the groom couldn't even stand up at his own wedding!

So I said, "Son, don't even think about grabbing another drink…"

But my warning came too late as Anoki handed one to me, grabbed one for himself and guzzled it down!

After that drink, things got a little fuzzy, and the crowd got even rowdier.

I even posed for a ridiculous photo, though I was still worried about Anoki as he'd grabbed yet another drink.

And I was right to be worried too, because soon after that, the poor guy passed out!

Along with an elderly guy, whose name I should probably know, but I can't recall at the moment.

Once I finally got him up and back on his feet, he headed straight back to the bar and grabbed another glass!

A few diehards joined him, including my nephew, Evan, who was pouring yet another tray of drinks!

So instead of just Marley and Mia being mad at me, I can add my sister Kindle's name to my list.

Then Anoki got even wilder and sprayed Dad with fizzy nectar.

Dad was so far gone by that time, that he didn't even try to stop Anoki, just kept gulping as much as he could in between laughing his head off!

For an old guy he can still hold his own at a party!

I hope ghosts can't exact retribution on the living or else my list will have yet another female who's on the warpath against me!

But none of us were feeling any pain by this time and Bryce pretty much expressed all of our feelings when he slurred, "Tha's prit..ey tasty stuff, whatever t'is!"

Then the proprietor of the bar yelled, "Closing time! Everybody out!"

Which finally had us all heading for the door, except the vampire dancer, who stood there with a hand on her hip, and yelled, "You guys can call me anytime! You sure know how to party!"

I was grinning like a fool until the first rays of daylight had me closing my eyes against the brightness.

Once I could focus again, I stopped dead in my tracks, blocking the doorway as Anoki was passed out on the sidewalk in front of Mick's!

I got Anoki back on his feet, told Dad to wait there with him, and headed for the truck.

But Dad wandered off down the street and jumped into a cab!

While Anoki teetered a bit and asked if I could see the deer standing in the road or if it was just him!

I thought he was kidding until I glanced back, my vision so blurred that details were a bit fuzzy, but an enormous deer was definitely leaping in the street in front of Mick's!

What do they put in that stuff!?!

The next thing I remember is seeing Anoki weaving down the road towards the farm on a bicycle!

I'm not sure how I even got home, but the truck was in the yard, and the groom was alive, so I'm considering that a big accomplishment!

I have never seen so much nectar sprayed or drinks consumed in my entire life as it was at Anoki's bachelor bash!

But we all survived, especially the groom, so we're considering the party a roaring success.

Scott kept pumping us for details since all teens had to leave at 10 pm, but Marley refused to let any of us elaborate saying, "It's not proper to tell such things to a boy his age!"

Dad, Anoki, and I shared a look, and conspiratorial grins, but since none of us could really remember many of the details clearly, we decided to let it go.

Besides, once Scott becomes heir, he'll have access to it in the family journal anyway!

Good thing Dad and I always take lots of photos now.

But now I need to get serious, as tomorrow, well, later today actually, I'm the father-of-the-bride!

I hope Marley isn't planning on serving any more nectar!

Next time I write, it'll be as the father of a married daughter.

Time sure has flown!

Journal Entry 157: A Special Wedding
« Reply #215 on: July 04, 2021, 01:28:41 PM »

As Anoki stood facing Mia under the wedding arch on the beach at Adventure Landing, both of them wearing simple but classic island wedding attire, along with many of the family and guests, you could see that Anoki understood the meaning behind the gesture.

One of acceptance and honor for his deep-rooted culture, an outward sign of respect as he and Mia were joined today.

Though Anoki tried to hide it, you could also see the tinge of sadness in his eyes, that he alone represented his family.

But that sadness quickly turned to surprised joy as Mia began the ceremony with the traditional wedding chant, 'Oli Aloha'***, a chant meant to prepare the space for blessings and to welcome the happy couple and their guests, those present and those no longer with them.

"Onaona ka hala me ka lehua,
He hale lehua no ia na ka noe,
`O ka’u no ia e `ano’i nei,
E li’a nei, ho’i o ka hiki mai,
A hiki mai no ka kou,
A hiki pu no me ke aloha…
Aloha e! Aloha e! Aloha e!"

Then Mia translated a portion of the chant, “This is the sight for which I have longed. Now that you have come, love has come with you."

Placing the ring on his finger she continued with her vows, "Family is very special and important to me and today I bring you into my family, Anoki. You are my true love, the one I embrace with all my heart, today, tomorrow, and for all our future days. I pledge to love you, honor the promise I make before our family and friends, and to accept all that our joining brings us, joys and sorrows alike, as I take you for my husband. I love you Anoki."

Anoki held up Mia's ring and looked straight into her shining eyes, "Seeing you and our guests before me in the traditional attire of my people, I had felt the absence of them keenly. But hearing the words of the Oli Aloha, you have brought them here, their spirits surround us, bless us, guide us, from this day forward until we join them as spirits ourselves."

Placing the golden band upon Mia's outstretched finger, he continued, "With this ring I thee wed, not only joining with you today, but your people become my people, our union a blending of cultures and traditions which we will continue to celebrate and, if the spirits bless us, pass on to our own children. From this day forward, I pledge to love and cherish you, Mia, sharing my name with you as you do me the honor of becoming my wife."

The ceremony was brief but heart-felt and Mia and Anoki's vows had brought tears and sighs as many clasped their hands over their hearts.

As the new couple shared their first kiss as Mr. and Mrs. Anoki Moon, clapping and cheers rang out along the sandy beach, while some showered the new couple in heart-shaped petals.

That watcher lady even helped us out and took several photos of the wedding and all the guests from the raised walkway, giving an overhead view of the proceedings that showed off not only the colorfully dressed family and friends, but the golden strip of sand and lovely blue water of the lake at Adventure Landing.

In this particular photo a breeze came along that was a bit stronger and managed to blow most of the rose petals that Keri Loveland threw over cousin Irving Kindle and Bella, which had Bella's attention drifting away from her twin and new brother-in-law.

I kept clapping but my gaze, along with Marley's and my nephew Bryce's, had drifted between two unknown girls that looked vaguely familiar, even though both of them had glittering blue fairy wings.

To my shock the blonde-haired girl waved and said, "Greetings from Aggie's Corner, cousin Diwan! I'm Tessa Crumplebottom, your Great-Uncle Carter's granddaughter, my Mom is Stephanie, twin to Samantha!"

The brunette chimed in saying, "And I'm Tessa's cousin, Kerri Swanson, my dad is Grandpa Carter's youngest son, Jacob! We came for a surprise visit but didn't realize their was a Swanson wedding today! It's great getting to see so many family members, especially on such a happy occasion!"

Tessa added, "The blonde man with the purple streaks in his hair has to be one of Brina Nolan Dean's descendant's!"

Marley smiled and said, "There's no hiding distinctive hair-colors! Evan, who's father is Trevor Gallo, is the only one who inherited it, besides his Aunt Karina, though hers is gray now. You are definitely surrounded by family as Evan's mother, Kindle, is behind you in the white dress with green flowers. And her twin sons, Tyler and Chad, as well as her twin daughters, Brianna and Deanna, are celebrating with us today, too. Next to me is Bryce Schmidt, Karina's eldest and only son, and his parents and all three sisters, Karie, Jessica, and Claire are here too! Along with several members of the Kindle and Rhoen families. That's Irving Kindle behind us with the light blue genie skin and his daughter Deena, with the titian hair, and poor Ian's up front covered in rose petals. Great-Aunt Rielle's son, Lamar is the blonde man standing closest to the water with his partner, Julia Kindle, and their son, Wesley, is the blonde man to your right. So quite the family reunion for all of us! The dark skinned girl with the green hair next to you is our adopted daughter, Catrice, who's also best friends with the bride, our eldest daughter Mia. Mia's new husband is Anoki Moon…"

With Tessa's eyes darting from person to person in the crowd trying to keep up with Marley's litany of names, I jumped in and said, "And honoring Anoki is the reason for this beach wedding and the wonderfully casual formal clothes. I don't know about the rest of the guys here, but I'm thinking we need to make this a standing wedding tradition!"

This engendered quite a few murmurs of agreement and even some laughs from the crowd.

But my attention was focused back on Mia as Anoki had done something irresistible that had her closing her eyes and swooning!

As soon as I saw that happen, I knew my wish for a grandchild probably would be coming true sooner rather than later!

But it was much too soon for that as we had a wedding party to celebrate first!

I chatted with the mixologist and, though I didn't plan on partaking, I opened a tab at the new bar and ordered a round of drinks.

This got me a cheer from a young man standing by the bar, one of the Loveland/Singleton boys, I believe.

Tessa, from Aggie's Corner, had already changed into a swimsuit and was sunning herself on the beach, her wings glistening as they were touched by the sun.

While Anoki and Mia, as well as other guests, started exploring the beach, which none of us had been to since we'd moved to Appaloosa Plains.

I'm thinking that the Swanson family won't be the only ones that start making a beach wedding a family tradition.

Tessa's cousin and traveling companion, Kerri, had opted to relax, but not in the sand, choosing a lounge chair near the bar next to the shore.

Even though she'd had no idea she's be attending an Island-themed wedding, her flowered vacation shorts fit in perfectly!

Julia and Lamar's daughter, Julianna, played some beautiful songs on her bass that quickly drew a crowd.

Evan cheered her on as many others clapped or tapped a foot to the lilting beat, including his siblings, Deanna, Chad, and Brianna, who were standing in front of him.

Bryce was watching intently, while his middle sister, Jessica, who was wearing a dress that almost matched her brother's shirt, said to her cousin, Brianna, "This is pretty upbeat, I never realized a bass could sound so good all on it's own!"

Brianna swayed to the music, saying, "You can even dance to it! Who knew?"

Other family and guests, including the bride and groom, were already breaking in the new dance floor on the end of the pier.

Marley had set up a buffet nearby so it was only a few steps away from the covered picnic tables.

With the weather so perfect, sunny and warm, even more guests had opted for sunbathing, some right on the pier, others on the open beach, and some preferring the semi-shelter under the pier.

Marley and I were bopping to the music when a slow song came on totally changing the tempo of the dance.

Mia quickly stepped into Anoki's waiting arms as they slow danced for the first time as a married couple.

Not to be outdone, I pulled my bride of many years into my own arms, almost reeling at the thought that it was our eldest daughter's wedding we were dancing at!

It seems like only yesterday that I'd finally got up the nerve to propose, while my tongue-tied nervous actions had my Marley thinking I wanted to break up!

Mia's twin, Bella, was dancing away to her own beat, along with Bryce and his father Ben, with my Dad joining in.

My mind reeled again that Dad was still with us, a blessing we'd never expected as he was now 126 days old!

As the afternoon hours passed, the rays of the sun cast longer shadows and many guests clapped and shouted congratulations to the happy couple as they said their goodbyes.

But Mia and Anoki only had eyes for each other, which both Marley and Dad said was as it should be.

On the right side of the pier, both Scott and Catrice had gone for a swim and then laid out on towels on the sand to dry off with the help of a bonfire!

The beach didn't come with such amenities originally, but the few things we'd added, the wedding arch, the bar, the dance floor and stereo system, the buffet, the bonfire, and three watercraft, made the beach the perfect wedding venue.

And seeing everyone's reaction to the place, I'm certain it will be a draw for all the town's residents for weddings and outings for years to come.

I could definitely see myself fishing down here as a change of pace from Cinnamon Crest Falls, the Appaloosa County Water Treatment area, and the fish pond at the farm.

But then everyone's oohing and aahing diverted my attention from the bonfire and fishing to the sky above us.

Just as the suns rays started fading from the sky, a hot air balloon drifted high overhead, adding a sense of drama and adventure to our festivities.

Karina's Ben hooted and hollered even louder as he boogied to the music, and Dad grinned saying, "That's right, Ben, we may have gray hair, but we can still dance the night away!"

Bella kept pace with both her grandfather and her uncle, but Marley and I chose to keep slow dancing, whether the songs from the stereo were fast or slow, preferring our arms around each other.

Anoki and Mia felt the same way, and though he kept his voice pitched low, we heard Anoki say, "Whoever's up there may think they're the ones on a grand adventure, but having you in my arms as my wife is all the adventure I need!"

Mia sighed and said, "And I've never felt happier in my life than I do at this moment, being in your arms and being Mrs. Anoki Moon."

Marley was so thrilled to hear the happiness in the newlywed's voices that she spun me around and danced in back of me, holding me close as she whispered, "They remind me so much of us, and my hope is that their lives together are as wonderful as ours is, Diwan. Just think, we now have a married daughter, Bella and Catrice will be heading back to Uni soon, Scott graduates from high school right after they get back, so we could be having multiple weddings in just a few weeks! Then maybe grandchildren soon after that!"

I stumbled a bit at that and said, "You want grandchildren already!?!"

"Of course! Don't you?"

"Yes. But…you weren't thrilled about becoming an adult, stressed about wrinkles and weight gain…even though you're the same lovely girl I married…"

Marley laughed and said, "No need for flattery, Diwan, besides, you're not adept at it like your father and Anoki are! And I'm over that mid-life crises, settled into my age and all, looking forward to the girls growing up and being on their own with their partners, and Scott taking over the farm soon."

"I'm definitely looking forward to that! In fact, I've been meaning to ask you about doing some traveling together. Seeing all those koi Catrice caught in China, I'd love to catch enough of all the varieties to stock the pond. And maybe a trip to France as well, to see where all your specialty grapes come from."

Marley said with excitement, "Now that sounds like fun!"

"China or France?"

"Both. As long as we're together. Maybe we could invite Mia and Anoki along? A delayed honeymoon for them?"

"And a rather late one for us!"

"Better late than never!"

As the sky darkened, Mia followed her mother's example and spun Anoki around, dancing behind him, but quickly spun him again, so they were face to face, and snuggled close just as a burst of bubbles surrounded them.

She looked deeply into his eyes and said, "The sky's dark and the stars are coming out, how about watching them with me from the pier?"

Soon the two of them were cuddled close together, indulging in their favorite pastime.

But tonight was different as it was their first time watching the stars as husband and wife.

They even looked a little more mature as they cast their eyes heavenward.

But then Mia leaned over and whispered something in Anoki's ear that had him laughing and, if I'm not mistaken, maybe even blushing a bit!

But it was their private moment, so I looked up into the sky myself, to see a myriad of stars casting their pinpoints of light down upon us.

And as a shooting star shot across the sky, I made a wish that my daughter and new son-in-law's love and happiness would only grow deeper as the days went by, far into their future.

Mia and Anoki were married on the beach at Adventure Landing and now Marley and I both are looking forward to our first grandchild!

And we're also planning to travel to China and France as soon as Scott takes over the farm.

Which won't be long now as he's only got a few days of high school left before he graduates!

But before that happens, Anoki and Mia will be moving out to a place of their own and Bella and Catrice will be heading back to Uni to complete their degrees.

And see their boyfriends!

I may be nearing my elder years but I'm not so old I've forgotten just how much you can miss that special someone.

So we've got several goodbyes coming up, but at least Mia and Anoki will still be living here in Appaloosa Plains.

Boy are they in for a surprise if that property I've been looking at goes on the market!

I'll tell you all about it in my next entry.

Journal Entry 158: Big Changes
« Reply #216 on: July 08, 2021, 03:04:22 PM »

The next day was Sunday, so Catrice and I relaxed by fishing in the pond at the farm.

Catrice caught an enormous toad and I told her I was hoping to catch frogs in France, as soon as we could manage to get there.

Then I peppered her with questions about the koi she'd caught in China and she told me all about the different varieties she'd managed to catch.

After seeing the photos Mia and Bella had taken, and hearing Catrice's descriptions, I wanted to catch some myself more than ever!

Mia was up early too, dressed in riding gear and eager to get Riley brushed and groomed so she could get some training in before the races today.

After a bit, Marley came outside and relaxed in the hot tub.

I had been planning on asking her if she wanted to join us and do a little fishing, but she looked so comfortable, I left her to her own pleasures.

After putting together Mia's wedding so fast and having it turn out so beautiful, she really deserved a day of rest and pampering.

Anoki was off work, and his boss surprised him with the next couple of days off as well, as a wedding gift.

He didn't lounge around but got straight to work in his garden patch, quickly picking up all the sunflower blossoms, popping them into the composter, and picking all the produce that was harvestable.

He now had 17 perfect varieties of plants to his credit and had already gained quite the reputation in town as an up-and-coming gardener.

In fact, he had so many harvestables maturing at once that Bella offered to help.

Later that afternoon, Mia called us all out of breath as she'd just completed her first international race with Riley.

They placed 6th, but she said she was proud of Riley's performance as he'd had some tough competition.

While Mia was out, I took Anoki over to the place I'd been looking at as soon as I'd heard rumors that Booker might be willing to sell the place.

"So what do you think, son? Will Mia like it?"

Anoki cocked his head to the side and said, "Like it? This place is amazing! But sir, I could never afford a place like this, not even with my inheritance!"

"You keep your inheritance for your children Anoki! This is a gift from Dad, Marley, and I. Scott's inheriting the farm, so we'd always planned on giving our daughters something special of their own, just like my parents did for my sisters. With Mia's love for horses as great as her grandmother's, we knew she'd want a place with a stable. And you've got enough perfect harvestables to start a wonderful garden in that paddock out front. Whatever you don't have, we can supplement from our other gardens or get some starter stock from the market. The place is huge but it's only got two bedrooms, but we can address that issue when it becomes necessary. The loft area could easily be turned into a nursery and another bedroom with it's own bath. So what do you say, son? Do I finalize the sale or do we keep looking?"

"I'm so stunned, I don't really know what to say, sir!"

"For starters, you could call me Dad, or at least Diwan, if it's too soon to be so familiar. After that, you could just give in and say, 'yes', before I lose this property and have to start looking for something else. Which would really cut in to my fishing time!"

"Well, um, Dad…when you put it that way, there's nothing else I can say but, yes! And thank you, though that seems rather inadequate for such a grand gift!"

"Not at all, son, not at all. My only regret is that you and Mia will be living so far across town. But Kindle and her family live just down the street, so you'll still be close to family. And with Mia using the training grounds and racing at the Equestrian Center, she'll have plenty of opportunities to drop by for a visit."

Later that evening, Anoki got a call from Deena Kindle asking if she could buy some of his produce as she'd heard about his growing reputation as a gardener.

Anoki agreed to deliver a few harvestables and was soon chatting with Deena on her front porch.

Deena apparently hadn't expected Anoki to deliver them that very evening as she'd already changed into pajamas, but once glance at Anoki's perfect produce had her raving over them with delight.

And when she paid him $2760 simoleans for just a few select items, he realized just how lucrative gardening was!

When Anoki returned, he and Mia spend their last night on the farm.

First thing in the morning, I brought them over to what had been Singleton Place and had the reward of seeing Mia's stunned face when I said, "Welcome to Moon Stables and Gardens!"

I quickly added, "The barn only has one stall currently, but adding one or two more would be easy enough, so let me know when you decide to breed Fareshine and Ripley and we'll take care of it. As you can see, the paddock only has two Cavaletti jumps, and Fareshine and Ripley are way beyond those so, as I already discussed with Anoki, it would make a perfect garden area as the soil should be well fertilized from the previous owner's horses."

Mia finally found her voice and said excitedly, "THIS is the place you bought for us!?! I knew you, Mom, and Grandpa were planning on gifting us a home of our own, but Dad, this is way beyond my expectations!" Raising her voice a bit more she asked, "Wait…did you say you'd already discussed this with Anoki? When?"

Before I could answer, Anoki said a bit worriedly, "When you were racing yesterday Dad brought me here to check the place out, asked if I thought you would like it…I couldn't imagine you wouldn't…was I wrong?"

Mia looked around, saw Anoki standing between her two equine best friends, the empty enclosed paddock which would indeed make a beautiful garden space, and smiled as her eyes met mine, saying, "No. Not wrong at all! This place is amazing!"

Anoki smiled in relief and said, "That's exactly what I said!"

While Anoki and I chatted in the soon-to-be garden, Mia ran inside and came back out dressed in her activewear.

She whistled to Ripley, who eagerly answered her call by trotting towards her as she said, "C'mon boy, now that I'm dressed more appropriately for it, let's explore our new home!"

She added, "Are you going to give us the grand tour, Dad?"

Reluctantly I said, "No. I promised your mother I wouldn't play goose-berry on what is essentially your honeymoon. I was told to drop you off, give you the keys, and leave the two of you alone! I've probably already exceeded what your mother would consider a proper amount of time! So enjoy the new place, the both of you, and call if you need anything, anything at all."

I had indeed lost track of the time as a phone call informed me that I needed to head over to the school to attend Scott's Art Club Exhibition, a showing of all the art club students' works, that had been completed throughout the program.

In fact, since I was already in town at Mia and Anoki's house, I was the first one there.

The rest of the family showed up soon enough and, when it was over, Dad was eagerly chatting with Scott about his wonderful art work, both his paintings and his sculptures.

"A fine job, my boy! You've done the Swanson family proud with your contribution to the exhibit, and you're not even artistic! I can't draw a straight line myself!"

"I had really good teachers, Grandpa, and they gave me a wonderful appreciation for art. In fact, if I wasn't taking over the farm, I might have taken artistic as my final trait and made it my vocation!"

Dad said, "Just because you're staying on the farm doesn't mean you can't have a hobby. I know you're going to be busy with fishing, gardening, and cooking, learning all of those recipes to follow your dream of farm-to-table meals. But having something to do in your down time, something you really enjoy, is a good idea, so I got you a little something!"

"For me? Thanks, Grandpa!" Shaking the box, Scott asked, "I've already got an easel and it's too small to be a sculpting station, so what is it?"

Dad laughed and replied, "You'll find out when we get home!"

Scott turned and headed for the stairs, saying, "Then let's go!"

But Marley, coming out the door, had heard this exchange and said, "Not so fast young man! They're offering family portraits and I'm not missing out on the last chance for a formal one of you as a teen!"

Scott turned back asking, "Do we have to Mom!?!" But then seeing his mother's huge smile and not wanting to disappoint her, he quickly said, "Okay, one last teen photo! Then I can get out of this monkey suit! I agree with Dad, we should make Anoki's traditions our own and go Island Casual for Formal from now on!"

Marley's smile grew as she said, "When it's appropriate, that's fine. Which it was for a summer beach wedding with an island theme. Don't you agree, Catrice?"

Dad and I were glad it was Catrice that Marley put on the spot, but Catrice didn't miss a beat as she grinned and said, "I'm an imaginary friend made real and a Fine Arts major who plans on becoming a rock star. Add to that my romance with a  former maid, who accepts me for who I am, is artistic, and hangs with Rebels, and I'm not so sure I'm the best one to ask about being appropriate."

Scott smirked and said, "And I have a girlfriend who IS inappropriate, and she'll probably wear a swimsuit to our own wedding!"

Marley just shook her head and, as she ushered us all back inside, murmured to me, "Not if I can help it!"

Again, the limit was six family members to a photo, but since Mia and Anoki were living in their own place now, six of us was our entire household.

This thought had me and Dad looking a little sad in the photo, but Marley, Bella, Catrice, and Scott all put on their best smiles.

Scott sure looked confident and grown up, which was to be expected since he was graduating soon.

But that thought didn't bother me as much as I'd thought it would, especially knowing Marley was completely on board with the two of us traveling once Scott took over the farm.

That evening, Marley and I settled down on the front walk and watched the stars together, continuing Mia and Anoki's routine.

As we looked up at the stars above us, we were content in our companionable silence, not needing words to express all our current feelings.

Happiness for Mia and Anoki, married and starting off on their own adventure in their new home.

Proud of Scott's high school accomplishments, his excellent grades along with his contributions to the Art Exhibition, culminating in graduation, which was right around the corner.

And facing another goodbye as Bella and Catrice had enrolled in their second terms at Uni.

So our pride and happiness were tinged with sadness as well.

But as long as we were together, we knew we could handle all of these events, and all of the changes yet to come.

Then we heard music which was no long eerie, but welcome, and we peeked around the side of the house to see Mom drifting from the barn towards the house.

She halted suddenly and changed direction, heading for the nectary basement instead.

It was pretty uncanny how she knew that Dad was down there relaxing in a rocker, just waiting for her to join him.

The smile curving his lips showed he was aware of her presence as well.

The two of them still connected by a love so strong it surpassed death itself.

But as Marley and I had needed couple time, so did they, and we respected their privacy, heading up to our bedroom, hand in hand.

I couldn't help hoping that Marley and I continue to share such a deep and lasting love when it becomes our time join my ancestors, and when Marley gave my hand a comforting squeeze, I knew she felt the same way.

The moving truck showed up early the next morning, just as the sun brightened up a new day.

We were out in full force, Dad, Marley, Scott, and I, to see Bella and Catrice off.

I waved like a crazy man and Marley cheered, both of us putting on a brave front at yet another departure.

Bella was so eager to get back to Uni, she'd already stored her suitcase in the van and was urging Catrice to hurry.

But then she suddenly stood stock still and voiced what all of us were thinking, "I still can't believe Mia's not going back to Uni with us! That's she married now, living in her own place on the hill with Anoki…that she won't be here on the farm when we get back…"

As her voice trailed off, Scott blew her a kiss and quipped, "But you'll still have me, sis! I promise to torture you enough so you won't even miss her!"

Scott's remark broke the silence before we all burst into tears and the Uni van driver added to it with an impatient toot on his horn.

I gave one last wave as the truck and the girls left and then couldn't hold back a sob.

This had Scott looking uncomfortable, but Dad just gave me a warm smile and said, "It's okay son, just let it out! Between Mia's engagement, Anoki's bachelor party, their wedding the next day and moving out yesterday, and Bella and Catrice leaving for Uni today, it's no wonder you're a bit emotional! You have a good cry, get it out of your system, then we'll do some fishing in the pond, that'll cheer you up!"

I gave Dad a loving glance through my tears and blubbered, "Thanks, Dad! I can't believe I'm such a mess!"

Dad just grinned at me again and said, "It's your Marley that's the brave and proper one, Diwan. You might not be a hopeless romantic like your mother was, but you've got a good heart, and it can only take so much before it all gets to you. Better to let it out than bottle it up inside."

With those words echoing in my ears, I sniffed a few more times and said, "Fishing does sound good…"

Scott, relieved that I was pulling myself together said, "Save some fish for me! I'll join you both when I get home from my last day of school!"

Dad just shook his head when I let out another sob and said, "You're not helping, Scott! Go get ready before you miss the bus. Your Mom and I will take care of your Dad!"

So now the house is down to five of us, me, Marley, Dad, Scott, and Kimo.

And soon I'll not only be passing the heirship torch to Scott, but also the responsibility of taking over the family journal.

But before that happens, Bella and Catrice will be filling up our phones with photos and texts of their final term at Uni!

It's another proud moment to think of them both graduating from Uni, with high honors if they both keep their noses in their books.

That shouldn't even be as difficult this term as they only need 12 credits each to complete their respective degrees.

That means only two classes Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, instead of three, plus a lecture and hands-on class.

And their rental house at Uni should be pretty quiet with only two of them living there.

With the two girls filling up the pages of the family journal, that'll give me even more time to fish!

Journal Entry 159: Changes at Uni
« Reply #217 on: July 13, 2021, 01:56:55 PM »

The girls kept their word and sent us lots of photos and texted us captions as soon as they hit campus.

Unfortunately, that was because things weren't going as they had planned…

Mia not being with us wasn't the only change we had when we got back on campus. The house we'd rented our first semester had been let out to other students, which had Catrice making this face as we arrived at our new place, as she grouched, "But it won't be the same…"

"No, but without Mia it won't be the same anyway. What I can't understand is how a deposit was put on this place, the only rental left on campus."

But that mystery was quickly solved when a familiar voice called from the front porch, "You're finally back! There's been a run on housing this term, so Jeff and I put down a deposit so you'd have a place to live besides a dorm!"

Catrice seemed to freeze on the spot, but I turned and headed inside our new place saying, "Thanks Josh! I'd have probably freaked if I'd had to deal with dorm living. Compared to that, this place looks pretty awesome! Maybe not quite as roomy as our first house, but plenty big enough."

Josh said, "It's got three bedrooms and two baths on the second floor, and a kitchen, a dining room, a large living room, and a half bath on the main floor. There's no garage, but there's a place to park a vehicle or two, since it's a long driveway. And the back yard is even bigger than the front, plenty of space for bonfire parties, if you're into that sort of thing!"

When Catrice finally got up the nerve to come up onto the porch, she started chatting about the weather, of all things!

Luckily, Josh seemed happy enough to talk about the rain.

Noontime found us over at the meet 'n' greet, but since we were second term students, we grabbed a few freebies and played games. Jeffery and I played pool.

Catrice played ping pong with Sharon Dorsey, the plantsim we'd befriended last term.

The housing rental shortage became much clearer after Sharon told us that a lot of the commuters had decided to live on campus this year. In fact, she and her boyfriend were renting the house across the road from ours!

That sounded like such a good idea that Catrice and I invited Jeffery and Josh to share our place!

The guys took us up on our offer and moved their stuff in that same evening.

Catrice and Josh had quickly moved past mundane conversations and got reacquainted by snuggling together in our new hot tub!

Jeffery told me he'd changed his major from Fine Arts to Science & Medicine, though he was already having second thoughts about it, and had changed his lifetime wish to Super Popular since he was accepted in all the groups on campus, getting along with the nerds and jocks just as easily as the rebel students.

I didn't doubt his popularity for a moment, seeing that he was a charming daredevil, brave, a great kisser, and irresistible on top of that!

We played chess, to get him started on logic, and since I'm proficient in gardening and fishing, I also let him borrow my multi-tab which will help him learn those skills super fast, even while he's busy doing other things.

As much as Jeffery talks about art, I'm not sure changing his major was the best idea. But even if he decides to continue his art and not pursue a Science & Medicine degree, it won't hurt for him to have a more rounded skill set. I told him a degree isn't for everyone and if it turns out that being a doctor isn't for him, he should follow his heart.

My words had him smiling and dragging me into the living room where he showed me just how daring he is by accepting my challenge to eat a spoonful of cinnamon!

His first reaction had his eyes bugging out as steam came out of his ears!

But after that it led to a romantic hug from my tough-guy rebel!

Followed by a cinnamon kiss which sure packed a punch, being more devastating than Jeffery's usual great kisses, and let me share in the cinnamon buzz!

Monday classes were all routine, but on Tuesday, Jeffery and I attended a lecture together.

Jeffery wasn't as adept at note taking as I was, but he got through it okay.

After the lecture, he ended up sketching Sharon nude, on a dare!

Which wouldn't have even been noticed if it'd taken place in a Fine Arts class instead of during a Science Lecture, where one of the nerdy science students kept her eyes focused on her notebook while she finished up her notes.

Sharon didn't seem to mind at all, and even laughed as she struck one silly pose after another!

Jeffery was so caught up with his sketching, he never even noticed that puddle he was sitting in! Eeeww!!!

Or the fact that another lecture had started, luckily a Fine Arts class, which had him giving the professor a roguish look as he glanced toward the podium. Catrice was taking notes but it didn't stop her from giggling a bit at Jeffery's charming antics or her desk mate who'd fallen asleep!

But Josh had a surprise for Catrice when she got home from her lecture. He officially asked her to be his girlfriend!

Of course, she said , 'yes'!

I left the room to give them a little privacy, but when I heard Catrice gasp in shock, I peeked in to hear Josh enthusiastically proposing!

Thankfully, he was just recounting a story he'd overheard when he'd been a maid, not trying to get Catrice to quit Uni and elope!

Then the two of them went outside to watch the stars together.

They make such a sweet couple.

You'd never guess that Josh is a high level rebel and continued his career as a maid on campus as he couldn't decide which town to move to or which Business or Fine Arts career to pick.

It almost melted my heart when Catrice serenaded Josh with a song she wrote just for him.

Josh was so touched by her gesture that he kept clapping and raving over her talent!

So even though that proposal wasn't the real deal, I have a feeling these two will be getting married soon after Uni graduation.

So definitely some changes at Uni this term and ones I'm not sure I like!

But I guess since I didn't object to Mia inviting Anoki to live with them last term, I can't very well object to her sisters following her lead this term.

Both of them are young adults and will be out on their own soon enough.

Though by the looks of it, neither of them will actually be alone.

Which isn't a bad thing, but.. rebel boys?

One a former maid and the other a daredevil, neither one sticking to a major or focusing on a career?

I hope this doesn't lead to heartbreak for either of them.

I guess we'll just have to see how the rest of the term goes.

Journal Entry 160: Uni Life Goes On
« Reply #218 on: July 17, 2021, 01:18:50 PM »

Jeffery listened to tab cast after tab cast and by Wednesday evening he was close to attaining a coveted spot on the Dean's list, so he invited Tiffany Angles over to form a study group.

He did have an ulterior motive though, trying to add her to his friend count and accomplish his lifetime wish as soon as possible!

I left them to it and studied on my own, which I prefer anyway, as I only needed to brush up a little to keep my status on the Dean's list.

But check out that artwork on the walls behind me! Those are Josh's latest paintings. He's decided being a blog artist just isn't working out so he changed his lifetime wish to Visionary, since he loves painting and photography. Catrice told him how both Mia and I mastered photography in our three day trip to China using our multi-tabs, so Josh has been doing the same. He's already earned 5 photography skill points since he moved in!

Catrice has been using her multi-tab to learn cooking, another Fine Arts skill, so between that, her guitar playing, and class attendance, she was on the Dean's List too, giving her plenty of free time to spend with Josh.

She even invited him to a bonfire party over at one of the Greek houses that night, their first official date!

Josh threw a test tube into the fire and it exploded into sparkling lights, a mini-fireworks show.

Then they watched the stars together cuddled up next to the fire.

Josh has even encouraged Catrice to try her own hand at painting, so they spent hours together up in the attic on Thursday as Catrice's class wasn't until late in the afternoon.

Jeffery and I both had our first classes at noon. With advanced students, like me and my classmates, practicing in front of the Science Center.

While introductory anatomy classes, Jeffery's group, were in the back.

Though back or front, beginner or advanced, the rain soaked us all!

Once class was over, Jeffery worked the crowd, making one friend after another.

Telling amusing stories.

Jokes, jokes, and more jokes.

Whatever it took to make a new friend!

But it was this girl that caught my eye with her pink-streaked blonde hair.

Her name is Amelia Dean and she's from Aggie's Corner, a genie, and a distant relative, being Great-Grandma Brina Dean's great-granddaughter through her Grandmother, Nikki Dean, and her father, Timothy!

Sim Land isn't so big when there's family everywhere you go!

Despite her class not being until 4, it was still pouring down rain when Catrice was trying to sketch.

You'd think they'd cancel outdoor classes or hold them inside during bad weather, but they claim adversity makes you stronger, more prone to improvise and work through problems, that it builds character.

As a Science and Medicine major, I'm thinking it's more likely to lead to Simmonia and I'm doing research to prove it! That probably won't change anything, but at least I'm inside and dry!

Later that evening, we threw a Spooky Day Costume Party, Catrice dressed up like a Scuba Diver, while our friend Abby came as a Pirate.

I was in the medical profession, of course!

Josh dressed as an intern, greeting Paul who was a clown and Sharon who wore green camo gear.

Jeffery complimented my lighter blue scrubs by dressing as a Paramedic in a bright shade of blue, while another intern danced with Sharon, and another Pirate joined the party.

Pirate Abby and Scuba Diver Richard were the first ones to dig into the food. We had lasagna, salmon, and cheese steaks to choose from, so it was quite the smorgasbord!

The party was a great success, but apparently word had gotten around about our expensive entertainment equipment and our last guest showed up long after we'd all gone to bed, and his outfit wasn't a costume but a career choice!

But when our burglar alarm went off, it had him freezing in place, as both Jeffery and Josh raced ahead of me down to the foyer to confront our unwelcome guest!

But the burglar didn't wait for introductions and rushed by them, and ran out the front door! Right past the policewoman who was standing on the front porch!

And the burglar jumped on his bike to make his getaway!

The officer was so lame she didn't even bother chasing the burglar, but came inside and started flirting with Jeffery, asking him to watch the stars!

All I can say is that campus security is not what is should be! And we will be lodging a formal complaint!

Seeing my stony face after the flirty cop left, Jeffery assured me that the policewoman was way off base, coming onto him like that!

"You're the one that has first place in my heart Bella," he swore and he looked so sincere I believed him.

To show him that, I gave him a relaxing massage, saying, "The thief got away, but nothing was stolen, even if that cop was trying to steal you, so let's just put the whole incident behind us!"

My massages aren't nearly as good as Jeffery's but it was enough to have him sighing and murmuring, "Sounds good to me."

So we headed back to bed to get some sleep before our finals tomorrow. Jeffery and I didn't have a class until noon, but Catrice had one at 8 am. Luckily, all the commotion didn't even wake her up and she was still sound asleep.

It was good to hear that both Bella and Catrice were doing so well in their studies that they'd both made the Dean's list and that Jeffery was close to reaching that goal as well.

The bonfire and costume party both sounded like fun ways to unwind after all their hard work.

But Jeffery's friend making activities, along with that police officer's advances, had me worrying about how long he'd stay faithful to Bella, no matter what he says!

I know Dad's an irresistible schmoozer, but he's also absent-minded, so he doesn't stay focused on any one thing for long, except staying faithful to Mom.

Not like Jeffery who draws sims to himself like a magnet with his combination of devastating traits!

At least with both Jeffery and Josh being brave, it had that burglar racing away, keeping our girls safe.

But I'm glad there's only finals and graduation before our girls return to the safety of our farm here Appaloosa Plains.

Journal Entry 161: Finals and Uni Graduation
« Reply #219 on: July 21, 2021, 02:34:52 PM »
Even with our late night excitement, Jeffery and I got in a little study time with Catrice before her 8 am class.

To his surprise, Jeffery had joined us on the Dean's list, "I never did this well in any of my Fine Arts classes, but I never had a multi-tab or studied much either. Good luck on your exam Catrice!"

But Catrice wasn't worried about the class at all as she knew the information well and left with a smile on her face, eager to put her knowledge to the test.

After studying, I played a few chords on Catrice's guitar, she said it would keep me focused but relaxed, and not tense before my finals.

And she was right, even my simple tune had me mellowing, just enjoying the sunny day, confident I knew the course material and not stressed about it in the least.

Catrice aced her first final and celebrated by sketching as her next one wasn't until late afternoon. This not only had her relaxing but also kept her focus and performance high.

I aced my first final too and couldn't resist giving myself a hand at the accomplishment. Not that I ever expect anything less than perfection!

Jeffery just seemed stunned that, not only had he aced a final for the first time, but that it was in Science and Medicine, something he'd always thought was much harder than Fine Arts!

But frankly, it was more his previous study habits, or lack of them actually, that were responsible for his mediocre grades in Fine Arts.

[/url

I aced my last final too, and gave another cheer. Though the somber looks of a couple of students  showed just how tough the final had been and that they hadn't done nearly as well .

Catrice did the same, knowing she'd done her best and passed with flying colors!

Jeffery looked even more stunned acing his second final, though part of his soberness could be attributed to the werewolf student standing nearby. A werewolf in full transformation can be a little unnerving no matter how brave you are!

When we got back to our rental place, Josh showed off his latest painting, a wonderfully brilliant work of art depicting a robed figure that could be either benevolent or threatening. Either way, it provoked a definite feeling for anyone who viewed it!

Josh hadn't been lazing around all week while the three of us had been busy with classes, he'd been multi-tasking the whole time; listening to photography tab casts on his multi-tab, while painting. In fact, he'd maxed the photography skill days ago and could now focus solely on his art, where he was already at level 8 of the skill!

Saturday morning I relaxed playing video games.

Until Jeffery woke up and interrupted me with a suggestive wink!

I eagerly responded with a sigh and shy look, but our romantic moment was interrupted…

Our grades had arrived and even though he knew he'd aced both his finals, Jeffery was still happily surprised to see he'd earned an 'A'!

I wasn't surprised by my 'A' in the least, but the high I felt actually seeing my grades and the notation that I'd earned my degree with a perfect GPA, completing my Perfect Student lifetime wish left me feeling more overwhelmed by the accomplishment than I had expected to be!

Catrice was painting up in the attic over her bedroom when she opened her grades, but the cheer she let out left no doubt about her earning her Fine Arts degree!

The girls called us immediately after receiving their grades and, between the two of them, they not only invited Jeffery and Josh to their graduation ceremony, but were able to include, Me, Marley, Dad, Scott, Mia, and Anoki!

I was proud of both Bella and Catrice, but seeing that look Mia gave her twin's graduation robes, I wondered if she regretted getting married so soon instead of returning to campus.

She'd enrolled in college classes back in Appaloosa Plains, and had already earned her degree in Phys Ed, but I had a feeling it wasn't quite the same as attending Uni with her sister, best friend, and all the other students.

No graduation ceremony, for one thing.

Marley and, oddly, Jeffery, seemed a little concerned about that as well, though he may have been feeling just as left out as Mia, not having enough credits in either Fine Arts or Science and Medicine, to earn a degree.

But Mia quipped, "Look at this crowd, I certainly don't miss fighting my way into classes!"

And when she breezed by us, cheerfully adding, "Congratulations, Bella, Catrice! I'm so proud of both of you! This is a moment in your lives you'll always remember with pride and joy! Let's find our seats," and she headed into the stadium for the ceremony, I knew she was content in her choices and I rubbed the tension out of my neck with relief.

The ceremony was lengthy, filled with the pomp and circumstance surrounding such events.

But that didn't stop Catrice from throwing her diploma high into the air when it was over, yelling, "I did it! I did it!"

Bella wasn't any less enthusiastic as she kissed her diploma in satisfaction of her perfect performance!

But she was a bit startled when Anoki pulled her to his side for a selfie, saying, "I've got to send this to my jock friends, Bella, or else they won't believe me when I tell them that my sister-in-law is not only a level 10 nerd, but a distinguished Science and Medicine graduate with a perfect GPA who's planning on being a doctor!"

Bella put her arm around Anoki but glanced at her twin to make sure it was okay.

Mia laughed and said, "Indulge him! He's hung around jock's for so long that they're always trying to one-up each other! You should have seen the texts he got after they found out he accepted a job at the Science Lab rather than at the stadium!"

But afterward, Anoki only had eyes for Mia, and seeing the two of them together, it was more than obvious that neither one of them regretted any of the decisions that they'd made.

As the hour grew later, Josh, who'd been rather quiet, but was clearly happy for both the girls, said, "We'd better get back to our rental house and make sure we have everything we want packed up! Our van is scheduled to leave in about 30 minutes!"

Josh wasn't kidding about that either, as we'd barely grabbed some last minute items, when the van tooted it's arrival.

Catrice was a bit upset that she and Josh had left unfinished paintings upstairs in the attic, but I laughed and said, "Maybe our kids will find them when they come to Uni!"

I'd meant my words to be funny, but somehow it had Jeffery staring at a spot on the ground near his shoes, while Josh looked searchingly at Catrice.

But Catrice was looking at me and just shaking her head, saying, "Only you would be looking so far into the future!"

But a couple of toots from the impatient van driver had us piling in and quickly driving on down the road, as we all hooted and hollered our final goodbyes to Uni out the open windows!

Catrice and I totally satisfied with our performance at Uni and ready to get back to AP to start our new lives in our chosen careers, putting our hard-earned knowledge to work for us.

Jeffery and Josh shouted their goodbyes until they were hoarse, even more excited than we were as they were leaving the Uni campus behind for the first time in their lives! Both of them eager to experience all Sim life has to offer living in a diverse town of Sim Land, with opportunities available to them that had never been possible before now!

It was something special to attend graduation for Bella and Catrice at the Uni campus, an event that will leave it's mark on our hearts for some time to come, and one that will be recorded here for posterity.

But that part of our girls' lives is complete and now they'll be returning home, spending a little time with us, and putting those hard-earned degrees to good use, getting jobs in their chosen fields.

What careers Josh and Jeffery will decide to pursue is anyone's guess!

But one things for sure, AP will certainly be a different lifestyle than the Uni campus they've become used to.

And their return isn't the only big event on the horizon, as Scott becomes a young adult that very same evening, so he'll be responsible for this journal from that point forward!

Which means my next entry will very likely be my last one…a thought that brings conflicted feelings; one of sadness at the ending of my own heirship, but one of pride and joy as well, to see my son stepping up and taking on the mantle of heirship and the responsibility of our farm.

Journal Entry 162: Settling On Careers and A New Heir
« Reply #220 on: August 03, 2021, 08:39:44 PM »

Marley, Dad, Scott, and I were all waiting for the girls and their boyfriends arrival, looking forward to having the girls back home with us, but also feeling a little trepidation as their boyfriends were unknown sims, for the most part.

Getting photos and texts about them, meeting them for the first time at the girls' Uni graduation ceremony, really doesn't prepare you for actually living with someone, sharing your home and personal space.

Bella and Catrice uploaded their resumes and accepted job offers in their chosen fields, medical and music.

With their high level degrees, both of them are starting at level four, Bella being a Medical Intern at the Hospital, while Catrice is a Band Manager at the Theater.

And they both immediately started working, Bella working from home on the computer, while Catrice performed a song from her repertoire.

This had us gathering around her to listen, tapping our toes, and swaying to the music.

There was no doubt about Catrice's talent as she was already an incredible performer!

After Catrice finished her song, Jeffery approached me and began chatting away, saying, "Bella tells me you're an avid fisherman, sir. I've only delved into the skill via the multi-tab to increase my performance in Science and Medicine, but I found the subject to be quite enjoyable. Maybe we could fish together sometime so I can try the activity for myself and learn from your own wealth of experience?"

It was easy to see why Bella and others flocked around him as he was quite the personable young man, knowing exactly what topic that would be the most appealing to me!

I couldn't help liking him and responding with, "Of course, I'm always eager to fish and I love introducing the skill to any one that cares to join me."

But I wasn't born yesterday, and added pointedly, "But is fishing what you really want to focus on? Make a career out of or just a way of making another friend?"

Jeffery had the grace to look a little shame-faced as he admitted, "Adding you and the rest of Bella's family to my friendship count is a plus sir, and would help me attain my lifetime wish, but to be honest, it's just nice to finally be in a real town! I've been at Uni for quite some time and I'm looking forward to moving on with my life, actually having a life outside of campus!"

Getting a bit agitated he threw up his hands, adding, "But I'm not sure WHAT I really want to focus on; I've been fighting against the system for so long, I'm not sure I would enjoy a regular 9 to 5 job, working for the man, becoming a peon, just another cog in the wheel! Your family has always worked the land, expanding this farm generation after generation, doing what each one of you loves, and I'd love to find my own niche! If I could just come up with the perfect idea!"

I mused, "Your talents are rather diverse, two partial degrees, one in Fine Arts and one in Science and Medicine, and your high ranking with all three social groups gives you other career options as well, but your traits, well, they don't actually point you in any of those directions…you're not artistic, musical, or a genius, and you don't love fishing, gardening, sports, or video games, so that's a tough decision, son. Maybe if you went for a drive around town, looked into the different careers, one of them would strike you as more appealing than the rest?"

Jeffery thought my idea had merit so I drove him into town, stopping to let him get a feel for the different careers as we passed by each building, Wolfson's Hospital and Research Facility, Heuber Associates & Kim Gould's Steakhouse, and Crestview School and Stadium, but after each one he came out shaking his head, looking even more bewildered each time.

He decided to have me head toward Rustler's Den and see if the Art Appraiser career had any more appeal for him than the others, but when he saw this building he shouted, "Stop! Please stop, sir!"

I'd barely stopped the vehicle when he was out of it and running inside!

I followed him and saw the excitement on his face when he introduced himself to my niece, Deanna Gallo, Kindle's youngest daughter, "Hi! I'm Jeffery Dean, could you use another hand here?"

Deanna said, "There's always room on the squad for another member! But it's a risky job and not one for cowards!"

Jeffery's grin widened as he said, "I'm a brave daredevil and I think this is the one place both those traits would be most useful!"

Deanna smiled back, saying, "Welcome to the squad, Jeffery! You'll be our newest member, just a entry level Waterboy, but someone brave like me, and a daredevil to boot, should be able to climb higher in no time, especially if you build up your athletic and handiness skills!"

Jeffery listened to her advice, but finding out that Deanna shared his brave trait had them conversing happily away, and soon Deanna was added to his friend count, bringing his total up to 15!

Not only had Jeffery made a new friend, but he'd found his calling as a firefighter!

We got back to the farm just in time for Scott's young adult birthday!

Helping Jeffery find his path in life had been exciting enough, but seeing my son grow to manhood had me cheering like a wild man!

The rest of the family was just as excited as I was, clapping, cheering and blowing party horns.

Scott seemed quite thoughtful and serious as he stood before his cake, but that's too be expected on such a momentous occasion, not just becoming a man but taking over the reigns of the farm as well!

Just as the sparkles surrounded him, Catrice joined us blowing loudly on a party horn of her own, while Bella now twirled a noise maker and I still looked crazy with excitement.

And then Scott stood before us, hands on hips, a young adult and the new heir to the Swanson farm!

I don't know who was prouder, me, Marley, Dad, his siblings, or Scott himself!

Scott chose Green Thumb for his YA traits, rounding out his other traits, Loves the Outdoors, Friendly, Angler, and Natural Cook, and the lifetime wish, Culinary Librarian.

He hoped to not only learn enough recipes to complete his lifetime wish but wanted to get as close to learning 100% of all available recipes, especially all the family favorites.

Scott quickly grabbed the first piece of cake while the rest of us were still cheering.

So by the time we were eating cake, he'd already started reading recipes to assist him in his lofty goals.

Since his goals were so ambitious, Scott decided to let me continue this entry in the family journal planning to take it over after graduation tomorrow.

The others, not to be outdone by Scott's eager example, followed suit.

With Josh first uploading his resume and quickly accepting a job in Education, starting out as an Elementary School teacher, with the aid of his 'A' Business degree!

Josh's hope was to pass on his love of art and photography to the children of Appaloosa Plains, so with that in mind, he eagerly began another painting, to max the skill and complete his own lifetime wish.

Since he'd already worked so diligently at Uni, he was already at level 9!

Jeffery took advantage of Marley's athletic prowess and asked her to train him to build his own more quickly.

But if he thought Marley would go easy on him he was sadly mistaken!

He quickly learned that Marley was a hard task-master, pushing him harder and harder!

But the effort paid off as he reached level 4 of the athletic skill with her assistance.

Afterward, he listened to a handiness tab cast to increase that skill as well.

So it wasn't much of a surprise when, after a shower and the completion of his tab cast, he earned his first promotion!

Jeffery's now a Soot Stripper with a weekly stipend of $340 simoleans.

Scott's own expansions to the farm, ones that went along with his dream of farm-to-table meals, arrived early the next morning,

Paparazzi who wanted the inside scoop on what was happening eagerly checked out our Milkin' It Dairy Corral, with it's compliment of three cows.

Along with the new chicken coop, as Scott has remembered his Grandpa Jared's advice on using fresh eggs.

Scott also bought two beehive boxes for fresh honey and honeycomb, which he had placed in the garden.

Scott's interest in farm-to-table had me popping a wish to grow a perfect apple tree as I'd apparently never done so, being more focused on fishing than gardening.

So I grabbed a perfect apple and placed it in the apple orchard next to the mature trees.

Scott had other plans too, but they got put on hold as it was time to attend his high school graduation!

Unfortunately, no Island Casual formal outfits for that, as it required Full Formal, and Marley's set face didn't have me arguing with her about it.

Scott laughed at the look at my face, saying, "You'll survive, dad!"

And Jeffery, decked out in a formal outfit with shades that fit his personality to a tee, quipped, "Formal clothes aren't so bad, Mr. Swanson! They say clothes can make the man and I've found that to be quite true! My rebel friends always loved my leather jacket and I'm certain the residents here in town will be equally impressed with my firefighter's outfit. They're a part of being seen, projecting a certain image to whoever you're trying to impress or befriend."

I just shook my head in misery just wanting be comfortable in casual clothes and relax with a fish pole in my hand; fish were easy, no need to impress or befriend them!

We drove to Crestview School and Stadium without any problem and seemed to be the first arrivals, which had Bella clapping and saying, "Much better than trying to fight a crowd like we did at Uni's huge stadium complex!"

No one else responded as Jeffery was checking out the area, while Catrice, Dad, and Josh seemed lost in their own thoughts.

But Scott couldn't resist teasing his sister as he said, "And a smaller crowd means a shorter ceremony, not one that was long and boring like that one!"

To forestall the inevitable argument between our children, Marley jumped in saying, "Each ceremony is proper for the occasion. The Uni student body is much larger so it's understandable that the event would be longer. But since we're all adults now, let's not quibble and get inside for this one before we miss it!"

Both Scott and Marley's words proved true as, with only five graduates, the ceremony was indeed short.

But Scott's hard work had him declared Class Valedictorian, just like his sister Bella had been.

Unfortunately, like her twin, Mia, he was voted Most Likely to Burn Down His Own House!

I'm not sure if that's because of Scott choosing a Culinary lifetime wish with his cooking skill only being at level four, or if the Dean penchant for fire is still hounding all of us.

Since we've seen several announcements in the paper lately that document unexplained infernos with family members present, I've a feeling it's probably the latter!

But that didn't stop Scott from throwing his diploma high into the air and cheering for his own accomplishment.

With eight of us in our household now, Marley talked the photographer into trying a photo with all of us in it.

Unfortunately, though we were able to squeeze seven of us in, Scott, the graduate, was left out!

So we had a second one taken with just Marley and me standing proudly together next to Scott.

It's hard to believe that Marley and I have four young adult children now!

Our three girls, Mia, Bella, and Catrice, all going to Uni, with Bella and Catrice earning degrees with high honors, allowing them to start their chosen careers at level four with higher pay!

Mia chose to marry Anoki and finish her Phys Ed degree on-line in AP, a choice she's more than happy with.

And so are we as, after Scott's graduation, she announced that she and Anoki are expecting their first child!

What a way to end my reign as heir, impending grandfatherhood with Scott already showing his initiative and implementing his first changes to the farm!

I have the utmost trust and confidence in Scott's vision for our farm, so it is with love and pride that I now formally hand over this family journal to my son, the gen 4 heir, Scott Swanson!

Entry 163: First Steps
« Reply #221 on: August 06, 2021, 02:15:58 PM »
For starters, everyone knows this is the Swanson Family Journal, so I'm dropping the word journal and just calling my writings, entries, though I will continue with the numbering sequence.

It's more efficient that way and saves me from typing superfluous words! (Thank you big sister, Bella, for broadening my vocabulary to include big words. I probably won't use them much as I'm a down to earth guy that likes to keeps things short and to the point!)

Which is going to be necessary, as with all my plans for this farm and my life, I'll need to keep this journal brief!

After my graduation photo with Mom and Dad, when everyone had congratulated me, I stood back on the steps of City Hall and watched my family chit chat the afternoon away!

That drove me crazy after only a few moments and I couldn't stop myself from clutching my hands to my head and saying, "Stop! Please, stop! I don't have time to waste on idle chit chat! I have people to see, places to go, and things that I need to get done!"

My words had Bella and Josh nodding and heading home to take care of their own business, Josh to paint so he could complete his lifetime wish and Bella to work from home, most likely.

But Dad looked at me with concern saying, "Are you all right, son?"

Clutching my head tighter, I explained, "My head is just so full of ideas for the farm Dad, it feels like it could burst if I don't get some of them done!"

Dad nodded and said, "As long as you're happy, Scott, then do what you have to do. You're a young adult and heir now, no one is going to question your decisions, least of all me!"

So with Dad's blessing, I strode over to Anoki and asked if I could raid his garden!

Anoki was thrilled to share all of his new produce with me, so I quickly changed out of my graduation robes and we drove to the Moon Farm and Stables, where Anoki gave me free reign in his garden.

Most of it wasn't perfect quality yet, but it was the produce itself I wanted, not it's quality, as any good gardener knows quality can improve over time.

Not just any produce, but berries in particular is what I wanted, so I headed straight for the berry patch and harvested strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries, to my heart's content!

Afterwards, even though I was chomping at the bit to get home and plant my berry bounty, I did take a few moments to tell Anoki how healthy his produce was and compliment his new home.

It wasn't expedient but it was the friendly, brother-in-law thing to do, and I knew Mom would find out if I didn't!

Dad might be okay with me doing things my way, but Mom was all about being proper and I didn't want a lecture on etiquette so soon after becoming heir!

But after complimenting Anoki on the house, he said I should check out their new pool, something about it being reconfigured or enlarged, so I quickly changed into my swimsuit and jumped in.

I was a bit dismayed to see it was much later than I thought so I made it a quick swim so I could get home to my planting.

But before I left, I found the horse granola Grandpa had given me that Grandma Rielle had made ages ago, which is how I found myself tracking down Mia's horses, to give them some, like I promised Grandpa I would.

Dad said as heir I wouldn't be questioned about doing things my way, but somehow it seems I keep getting roped into doing things that keep interfering with my own plans!

Lucky for me, Fareshine was asleep in a stall so I only had to feed Ripley.

"Here you go, boy! I hope this stuff is still good! Mia would never forgive me if it made you sick!"

But with etiquette and my promise to Grandpa fulfilled, I finally made it back to the farm.

I only sat down on the couch for what seemed like a minute when the sunlight streaming in through the windows had me realizing it was morning!

I showered and dressed and rushed out to the garden where I found Mom brushing Kimo.

After quickly greeting them both, I headed straight for the plot I wanted to use, one that had been fallow for quite some time, so it was the perfect area to start my berry garden.

A day later than I wanted to, but at least it was started now.

After that, I planted some basic produce, lettuce, tomatoes, and the like, to fill in some empty spots in the vegetable garden.

Mom had been so focused on nectar-making, she only planted her specialty French grapes, life fruit, and flame fruit for her favorite nectar blends, letting the hired gardeners tend them, just hand-picking them herself, like Grandpa Nolan had always done, though Dad and Grandpa Leonard harvested them as well.

And with Dad keen on fishing rather than gardening, he'd let a lot of the garden go fallow, just replanting our cash crop, Red Berry Beans, season after season.

But that wasn't how things were going to be now that I was in charge!

With the plantings I wanted now growing in the rich soil, I started checking off the rest of my 'to do' list.

I checked the chicken coop and collected my first eggs, four of them, a nice size and still warm from the hens!

Then I milked a cow for the first time!

And managed to obtain a whole bottle of milk without spilling it, falling off the stool, or getting kicked!

But the next part was going to be even trickier, checking the bee boxes for honey!

Surprisingly, it was easier than I'd thought it would be.

I smoked the bees to keep them calm.

Then harvested several jars of honey and beeswax!

After harvesting, I cleaned the boxes and fed the bees to keep them happy and producing good honey.

I hadn't realized how much time all that had taken until Jeffery got home from work, all excited about getting another promotion.

"I can't believe I'm a Fire Safety Instructor, Scott, just after one day! We didn't even have any fires or emergencies, I just worked on maintaining the fire alarm and fire truck and gained enough handiness skill to get promoted!"

"Congratulations, Jeffery! It feels good to be rewarded for your efforts doesn't it? My new plantings haven't had a chance to do much since I just got them in the ground this morning, but I gathered eggs, got some milk from the cow, and I just finished harvesting honey and beeswax, without getting pecked, kicked, or stung!"

"It sounds like we've both been rewarded for our efforts, Scott. I wonder how Bella and Josh did today?"

"A little birdy told me that Bella got a promotion to Resident. But when Josh came home, he headed straight to the nectary basement to work on another painting."

"Then let's go down there and ask him how his day went. Hopefully, he had just as much success today as we've had!"

Feeling that my day had been productive, I followed Jeffery to the basement to check on Josh.

He was diligently working on another painting and to our inquiry about his day, said nonchalantly, "My supervisor came in to observe my Elementary Art Class and he was so impressed by my talent that he promoted me, I teach Middle School students now."

Jeffery crowed, "Well that's a win-win for four out of four, I wonder how Catrice will fair at the theater tonight?"

Josh said, "She called saying she was staying late to help out some band members, so I expect they'll be pleased with the extra effort."

But hearing a noise on the other side of the room, I found Mom tending a few of the plants that had matured in Anoki's garden after he'd left.

"Our gardeners had been told to leave this patch alone so Anoki could tend it himself, so now that he and Mia live across town, no one's touched it for awhile. I'm just harvesting what's ready and weeding a bit here and there. But tomorrow you could tell the gardeners this plot is no longer off limits."

"Sure, Mom. I can do that."

"Only if it doesn't interfere with your plans, Scott. As heir now, feel free to let us know what you'd like your father and I to help you with. We've accomplished more than enough in our chosen fields, so we're at your disposal."

I felt embarrassed by Mom's words, knowing it was partly due to my outburst after graduation yesterday, and wasn't sure what to say, but a lame, "Thanks, Mom. If I need help, I'll let you know."

"Of course you'll need help, Scott! We don't expect you to run this farm all on your own, especially not with all your new expansions. The chickens and the cow won't need much tending, but your bees will. And once your berry garden matures, I have a feeling you'll be doing some canning and baking with all that fruit. Not to mention learning all those recipes you'll need to complete your lifetime wish, and the time it'll take to make everyone's favorite meals."

As the list of things I planned to do grew, I wondered if Mom was right. Could I accomplish all of my goals without help?  Was it foolish of me to have even thought it was possible, trying to take on all those responsibilities myself?

While I was mulling those questions over, Mom finished in the garden and pulled out a multi-tab, saying, "I think I'll listen to a fishing tab cast! With all your new expansions, it's about time I expanded my own skills on this farm to include something besides gardening and nectar-making! That is, if it's okay with you?"

"Of course, Mom! I'm sorry I sounded so ungrateful after graduation. I guess I let being a young adult, being heir, umm…go to my head a little."

Mom's lips curved as she said, "Maybe just a little. But let it be a lesson learned Scott. This farm, any farm, needs all hands on deck. But since we've accomplished so much today, I think I'll put this fishing instructional to good use and listen while I join your father at the pond!"

I was so astounded by Mom deciding to listen to a fishing tab cast and then following that up with actually fishing with Dad at the pond, that I trailed her upstairs to see this sight for myself.

Sure enough, Mom grabbed a pole and said, "Let me know if there's anything I need to do to be more successful at this, Diwan. You're the expert, so I'll take all the help I can get!"

Even though Mom hadn't directed those words at me, I cringed, as I'd casually tossed all of my family's years of experience down the drain yesterday, acted like I was the only one that had an agenda, one that they were ruining!

But instead of holding that against me, Dad said, "You've worked hard today, Scott, going from one thing to another non-stop. Throw in a pole, relax, and enjoy this beautiful evening. If you don't take time for fun, you'll burn yourself out."

I told Dad I would, but not just yet, as I needed to check on my bees one last time, make sure they were calm and happy.

The bees looked pretty content, but Jeffery wanted to talk some more, and it only took me a moment to figure out why.

I was the last friend he needed to complete his lifetime wish!

He beamed as his mood skyrocketed with the boost it gave him and said, "Now that that's out of the way, I can focus totally on my career, and not be torn in two directions at once!"

Before I could comment on that, a horn sounded out front and I said, "That must be my latest farm expansion!"

Jeffery asked, "Another expansion to the farm!?! Are you sure you didn't choose Ambitious rather than Green Thumb for your last trait, Scott?"

I laughed and said, "I'm sure! And this one isn't anything huge, just a small vegetable stand so we can buy other produce, some from foreign lands, as well as consign our own right here on the farm, so we won't have to travel to the consignment store or pay their fees anymore! Not only that, but our family, friends, and neighbors, will be getting the freshest fruits and vegetables, giving them their first taste of farm-to-table eating!"

"That sounds good and I'm all for the vegetarian life-style, but are you sure you're not setting yourself up for disaster with all these expansions, little as they seem, plus learning and cooking all those recipes?"

Jeffery made his point even clearer when he said, "I got you this gift for graduation yesterday, but you took off so fast I didn't have a chance to give it to you!"

But before I could even thank him, the delivery driver honked impatiently, and I just gave Jeffery a quick smile, saying, "Thanks, I'll open it later! I better go help that driver before he takes off with my delivery!"

I helped the driver unload the stand, and after he took off, I stood nearby admiring it for a bit.

My only regret was that it hadn't been delivered this morning and I'd have to wait until tomorrow to try it out and greet our first customers!

With that thought, I recalled all the other things I'd have to do in the morning; check on my new plantings and get more items planted to build up our orchards again, collect eggs, milk the cow, see if I could really make cheese with two bottles of milk, go through the lengthy process of collecting honey from the bee boxes and get them clean and fed again…and I hadn't even learned another recipe or cooked a new meal today…not to mention getting to relax and fish with Dad!

And then Mom's, Dad's, and Jeffery's words all came back to haunt me, taunt me, as the thought of all those chores suddenly made me feel exhausted, and had me questioning all my grand plans, after only two days of being heir!

I'd flipped through a few of Dad's previous entries to know he typically summed them up and mentioned upcoming events, but my last thoughts had left my mind in a muddle and I didn't want to do any more soul searching or even thinking.

So writing down such things was an even more impossible task!

I hoped my dreams wouldn't turn into nightmares as I headed off to bed.

Entry 164: A Better Day
« Reply #222 on: August 10, 2021, 11:50:12 AM »

Going to bed with your thoughts in turmoil makes for a restless night, so I was up early the next morning.

I quickly gathered the eggs and fed the chickens.

Then milked the cow, and with two bottles of milk in my possession, it just took merging them to make cheese, nothing time consuming at all!

So I took a moment to feed the cow some chocolate, which I had been told could lead to chocolate milk!

I was a little skeptical about that, but stranger things were considered normal in Sim Land.

Like those gnomes nearby that made me a little nervous as they seemed to materialize anywhere they wanted to on our lot!

That bear was found in our laundry, and that graduation gnome was one either Bella or Catrice had found at Uni, I wasn't sure where the dog gnome had come from, but they always traveled in packs.

I hoped they wouldn't startle the cow and sour her milk or make the chickens stop laying eggs.

But with the bees to take care of and having to avoid stings, I stopped thinking about gnomes and concentrated on what I was doing.

I'd read that if the bees were happy and content I could skip the smoking procedure, which gave me higher quality honey.

But I was eager to experiment with this sweetener so I went inside to make myself some breakfast.

Unfortunately, even though it said I could add honey to fruits and vegetables, I didn't find a way to do so.

I guess either my cooking skill isn't high enough or I just haven't learned the right recipes yet, maybe both.

So I made up a batch of fruit parfait instead and it was the best fruit parfait I've ever made, even without honey!

Honestly, it was the only fruit parfait I had ever made, or eaten, so I didn't really have a frame of reference, but it tasted great just the same.

After my early breakfast, I decided to slow down my tempo just a bit, to see if Mom, Dad, and Jeffery's advice had any merit, and decided I'd see how other family members got through their day without being totally stressed and exhausted.

Since I'd seen Josh heading for the nectary earlier, I made that my destination.

Sure enough, Josh was painting, this time a close-up of an attractive blonde woman with glasses and ruby red lips.

I don't know how I missed it last night, but the first thing I noticed is the lack of light as this part of the basement didn't have a light fixture above it.

It didn't seem to bother Josh but I decided to help him out.

I grabbed one of the portable ceiling lights and moved it to the ceiling above him and the effect was so drastic, I shouted, "Let there be light!"

Josh didn't even miss a brushstroke but he did say, "Hey, thanks, that helps! I didn't realize it was so dark over here until it was lit up!"

I just shook my head thinking that artists were an odd bunch, not seeing the obvious when it was clear to everyone else.

But I was on a mission  and didn't want to interrupt him longer than necessary, so I quickly asked, "How do you balance your painting with your new job at the school, and still find time for fun stuff, relaxing and socializing?"

Josh finished his painting, and as he stepped back to take it in, he said, "For one thing, painting is something I find fun and relaxing, so whether I'm working on my own art or teaching an art class, I'm always having fun and I'm socializing with my students, so that's a win-win. Now romantic socializing is a little trickier these days with me working days and Catrice nights, but we're figuring it out as we go. One step and one day at a time. I've been trying to take a little nap in the evening so I can spend time with her when she gets home from work."

I nodded, "That makes sense and it's similar to what Dad told me, about setting aside time for fun and relaxation so I didn't burn myself out. Luckily, I find gardening and cooking fun and relaxing, not quite as relaxing as fishing, so I'll need to work that into my schedule, at least a few times a week. And if I time it right, I can socialize with Dad, Grandpa, Catrice, or even Mom, as she's suddenly taken an interest in it too. And Grandpa did get me a sculpting station for graduation, but I haven't even taken the time to try it out yet!"

Josh, still critiquing his painting, nodded and said, "That sounds like a plan, making time for things besides chores. Running a farm isn't like painting or photography where you have to do it yourself. Remember that your family has extensive knowledge and experience in running this farm, so don't pass up help when it's offered and remember to delegate some of the basic chores."

"Now you sound just like my Mom!"

I could see a smile playing on Josh's lips even though he started working on another canvas, "I may not converse much when I'm painting, but that doesn't mean I'm not listening! Your Mom gave you some good advice, so it's worth repeating."

Reluctantly I agreed, saying, "That's why I'm here talking to you about balance, finding out how others make it work, instead of thinking I need to do everything myself, my way, and becoming overwhelmed."

Josh nodded again as he contemplated his next brushstroke on a fresh canvas, saying, "That's why I've been painting so much, to complete my lifetime wish and have that goal out of the way, so I can focus on my career and Catrice."

"That's what Jeffery said when he made me his 20th friend and completed his lifetime wish!"

"Jeffery's come a long way since Uni, found his focus with Bella and his Firefighter career, so it wouldn't hurt to see how he's managed to earn so many promotions in so short a time."

That sounded like a great idea and Jeffery agreed to let me shadow him at work today so I could see him in action.

As he worked he explained, "Having the fire alarm and truck in tip top condition goes a long way in gaining handiness experience and earning yourself promotions in your down time. After upgrading the fire alarm yesterday, I was promoted to Hose Handler, and just maintaining and starting on the fire truck upgrade I became a full-fledged member of the team, a Fireman!"

"Wow, you do earn promotions fast in this profession!"

Jeffery smirked and said, "It helps that I'm listening to handiness tab casts the whole time, doubling my handiness proficiency! But the ultimate objective is to get you to fires and emergencies quickly. The sooner you can contain the fire and rescue any sims in peril, the better the chances of saving property and lives! Well, that's what the firefighter handbook says, anyway, I haven't actually gone out on a call yet."

But those words had barely left his mouth when the fire alarm went off, blaring through the building with a piercing noise that left no doubt as to the seriousness of the event!

The driver of the truck had it outside revving in the street in minutes as Jeffery geared up and raced outside to jump on!

I followed as best as I could as the fire truck raced to the emergency, not a fire, but a disaster at the mausoleum!

As I tried to wrap my mind around what kind of disaster could happen at a cemetery, the truck had stopped and Jeffery was racing towards the building!

Jeffery had been briefed on the mission on the drive over, there was a cold storage vault in the basement of the building and several workers had been trapped inside!

Jeffery needed to get them out of the sub zero temps before they froze to death and the mausoleum became their permanent residence!

I watched in amazement as, not even hesitating for a moment, he strode bravely inside.

The rest of us waited outside with bated breath, until the all clear sounded and Jeffery came safely out of the building.

As he raced toward us, the confident grin on his face told us that he'd been successful at saving the trapped workers.

I was thoughtful on the ride back, realizing Jeffery had found the perfect profession for someone like him, doing something he loved so much that the adrenalin rush of fires and emergencies made him the perfect man for this job!

But Jeffery didn't let that first success go to his head.

When we returned to the station, he immediately began working on the fire engine upgrade again saying, "We did okay, saved those workers lives, but there's definitely room for improvement as our drive and mission time only gave us a 'B'. Upgrading this truck can improve our response time, and if I work on my athletic skill, that'll improve my mission time as well."

My take away from the whole experience was that when there were no fires or emergencies, Jeffery and his crew didn't just stand around, but worked on maintaining the equipment and their own skills, athletic and handiness, both of which improved their chances of averting disaster and losing loved sims in the process. They'd discovered the necessary balance to be successful in this profession.

A good example for me to follow as they didn't do that alone, but with everyone on their crew playing a crucial part!

I headed home and put my new found knowledge to work, asking Catrice if she'd tend the produce stand while I did some more planting.

Catrice was more than happy to help and said, "I'll just stand here and soak up the sun waiting on customers. But if you need fish for fertilizer or recipes don't hesitate to ask me to help, you know how much I love fishing!"

A load lifted off my shoulders at Catrice's heart felt offer and I just shook my head at my overly ambitious plans of running this farm all on my own.

Mom was right, and so were Jeffery and Dad, I couldn't do this myself, as it would only lead to disaster and me burning myself out, sooner rather than later!

Josh had been right too, I needed to use my family's knowledge and experience, their talents for fishing, gardening, and nectar-making, along with letting them help with the new expansions, to give me the time to focus on my recipes and cooking.

Catrice even chatted with that paparazzi, telling him all about our produce stand and my vision for farm-to-table meals.

With that article circulating around town, my dream would become a reality in no time!

I'd planned on telling Mom and Dad just how foolish I'd been, but Catrice told me they'd gone over to Mia's to see how she was doing, so I headed over there myself.

Dad was chatting with my cousin, Jessica Schmidt, asking her how she liked living with Mia and Anoki as she'd moved in to help them out with the expected new arrival.

While Mom, who'd already taken advantage of the pool, was chatting eagerly to Mia's tummy, saying, "I can't wait to feed you a bottle, precious one, and snuggle you close. Your Grandpa and I are just thrilled at having a nooboo in the family again!"

But Mia wasn't the only one expecting, as a commotion outside had us racing out to see what was going on.

Mia's smile was huge as she said, "Surprise! Meet Farley everyone, Fareshine and Ripley's new foal!"

Even as a newborn, only a few minutes old, Farley was fast and agile, though untrained, and was soon racing around the lot.

He looked very much like Sunshine, his grand dam, though he did sport the same white stocking on his left hind leg, just like his mother, Fareshine.

Mom decided to let Mia get acquainted with Farley and invited Dad to the pool for a swim.

I watched them swim around for awhile, just enjoying this simple, refreshing past time together, and said, "I need to apologize to both of you. I've been foolish. Being a young adult, being heir, doesn't mean I need to do everything myself. That being said, I hope the both of you will continue helping me out on the farm, in whatever you enjoy best. I'm not going to go all medieval and start ordering everyone around like you're serfs!"

Dad gave me a relieved look and said, "I don't mind continuing to look after the Red Berry Bean plot and I'm looking forward to consigning our next crop with your new produce stand, instead of driving into town. And helping out with the harvesting, of course. I've always done that in between fishing trips."

Mom added, "And I'd love to help with the chickens, especially when we have baby chicks, they're so soft and fluffy, and their peeps are just adorable! Maybe I could even learn to milk the cow and try my hand at harvesting honey. I've made plenty of nectar, Scott, I'm looking forward to doing some new things on the farm."

Spotting the new foal at the corner of the house Mom added, "In fact, I want to see if Farley will let me feed him a bottle. I need to get back into practice with a grandchild on the way!"

Mom got out of the pool slowly and approached Farley saying, softly, "Hey there, boy, want a bottle?"

And before we knew it, Mom was gently patting him, crooning baby nonsense while Farley eagerly sucked milk from the hugest baby bottle I'd ever seen!

It was at that moment that I knew we'd have to have another horse on the farm, maybe a cat and another dog too, to keep Kimo company, and pay tribute to all of the Swanson pets we'd had over the years.

That had me remembering Kimo's pups and asking, "Have you heard from Elise Pelly, Mom, about Max and Lady?"

Mom gave a sudden start and said, "With everything going on, I'd forgotten completely about them! How thoughtless of me. I'll say goodbye to Mia and head over there right now!"

I smiled and said, "You seem to have your hands full already! I'll go and check on them and see if Ms. Pelly is willing to part with them any time soon."

Mom echoed my own thoughts saying, "With the horses gone, Kimo has seemed a bit lonely.  I've been trying to pay more attention to him and so has your Grandpa, but I don't think two-legged friends are the same as having four-legged companions!"

I headed over to the Pelly place and couldn't help smiling when I saw Kimo's pups.

Max was in the kitchen, the cutest pup I'd ever seen, looking at me with those melting puppy-dog eyes.

I'd never really understood that expression until I saw Max!

I found Lady in the living room with her mother, Belle, and was suddenly torn.

She was adorable too, so how on earth would I decide between them!?!

But Ms. Pelly told me she wasn't giving either one of them up until they were full grown, so I still had a few days to decide.

Wouldn't Kimo, not to mention Mom, be thrilled having one of them for our very own!?!

Back at the house, I found Josh painting on my old easel.

"Weren't you working on a painting in the basement this morning?"

"I was, but right after you left something important happened, so when it was finished I left it there, as a reminder."

"Something important? Was it a masterpiece?"

"No. But it was the painting I was working on when I maxed the skill and completed my lifetime want, so it's pretty special to me! Besides that, I really like it, though I'm not sure why, it just makes me feel good."

I had to go to the basement to take a look at this special painting.

One because I was curious, but also because I wanted to get a photo of it for my journal, especially since I'd missed Josh's big moment.

The painting wasn't large but it did have a special quality about it, as it portrayed a young fairy girl with a wand, sitting quietly as a butterfly hovered nearby.

Josh had painted it in tones of gold and just looking at it made me feel a sense of peace, like I was actually peeking into this child-like creature's world, one of beauty and innocence.

Josh certainly was talented, and I couldn't imagine being able to put so much feeling into a painting, having it seem so real.

I'm glad I took the time to view it, to experience all the emotion Josh had put into it, captured, and reflected back to me.

And though my photo of it doesn't do it justice, it will be preserved for generations to come, safe in my journal.

I headed back into the house to tell Josh what an amazing painting it was but he was napping so he'd be awake to spend time with Catrice when she got home from the theater later tonight.

So I decided to work on my cooking skill, preparing spaghetti with veggie sauce, Mom's favorite, for dinner.

After enjoying a plate, to make sure it was edible before I presented it to Mom, I went out to the pond and threw in a line, enjoying the evening, just me and the fish.

When my phone rang, I was expecting it to be Dequan, or maybe Keri, but it was Bella.

She'd sent me this photo and text!

Don't tell Mom and Dad, but Mia's having a girl!

Today had been a much better day, productive, but not stressful and exhausting, and I'd learned a lot from spending time with Jeffery and Josh, and even got in a little fishing.

Mom and Dad were on board with my plans for the future, willing to help me out with my expansions and provide support to keep the farm running smoothly, now that I'd admitted I couldn't do it all on my own.

And somehow, knowing I was having a niece, made Mia's baby seem much more real!

Just think, Mia and Anoki will be parents soon, and I'll be an Uncle, now that's a pretty big event to look forward too!

Entry 165: Saturday Surprises
« Reply #223 on: August 14, 2021, 02:17:02 PM »

Early Saturday morning, with Josh off from work and Catrice's shift not starting until 4 pm, I found the two of them in a romantic embrace right outside my bedroom!

Not wanting to intrude on their privacy, I hurried past them, and downstairs.

But today seemed my day for interrupting lovebirds as I stumbled upon Jeffery in the living room blowing Bella a kiss!

They were both dressed in work outfits, apparently so determined to spend time together that they hadn't even gone to bed.

I was just about to tease her when I was stopped dead in my tracks, my mouth dropped open…

As Jeffery pulled a little black box out of his pocket, dropped to one knee, and proposed!

I don't know who was more shocked, me or Bella, as her hands flew to her mouth and she gasped, "Oh! Oh, my!"

But only moments later she was jumping up and down and holding her hand out as Jeffery slid the ring onto her finger.

Then she flung herself into his arms saying, "I'd been planning the perfect proposal sometime this weekend but you beat me to it!"

Jeffery held her close and said, "Mine might not have been perfect, but I didn't want to wait a moment longer to ask you to be my wife!"

"It was perfect! Unexpected, romantic, more than I dreamed was possible. And having you ask me, well, that makes it even more special, knowing you feel the same way I do!"

It was past time to watch the stars, but the two of them strolled out onto the front porch, cuddled close, and watched the sun come into it's glory as it streaked the house in pink-tinged morning rays.

Then the two of them went out into the garden that was fresh with morning dew and got even more romantic.

I wasn't being a nosey brother, just going about the routine of my morning chores, collecting eggs, milking the cow, and harvesting honey, taking good care of the bees.

But  it was hard not to glance at them throughout that process, seeing how happy they were, hugging and kissing, enjoying their newly engaged status to the max.

I even overheard Jeffery asking Dad for Bella's hand in marriage, which was rather surprising behavior for a rebel, but Jeffery wasn't the typical rebel, being equally at ease with jocks or nerds.

So I guess that made him free to follow the beat of his own drum, not conforming to anyone else's idea of how things should be done.

He proved that soon enough when he asked Mom too, his friendship with her making him fully aware of how much stock she put in proper etiquette.

Mom gave her blessing, just like Dad had done, both of them won over not only by Jeffery's charm but his commitment to his new career.

He'd earned several promotions yesterday, one to Captain, and another to Backdraft Specialist, which is level 8 of the profession!

Both promotions due to his diligence in increasing his handiness skill via tab casts, while maintaining and upgrading the station's essential equipment, and for performing so well on his first emergency.

Catrice and Josh hadn't developed their relationship quite to that point yet, but Catrice couldn't wait to serenade Josh with another song she had written just for him.

She hadn't even waited for him to shower and dress, just dragged him outside so she could perform and enjoy the warmth of the sun at the same time.

I decided to follow my sisters' examples and spend time with Keri.

She'd called the night before to tell me she'd had her birthday, which they celebrated quietly, as with her Mom's passing still so fresh no one was in the mood for a party.

When she showed up looking more beautiful than I could have imagined, giving me a flirty look and a come-on smile, I just looked away with a nervous smile on my lips.

But soon we were chatting away, just like we'd done since we were kids.

And as it had done when we were teens, chatting led to more romantic interactions, and then our first kiss as young adults!

But my romantic pursuits took a back seat when a phone call from Anoki had Mom and Dad rushing over to the Moon home to me their first grandchild.

Dad congratulated Mia on their new daughter!

But Mom didn't even slow down in her eagerness to get to the nursery, all sense of propriety tossed out the window as she held her granddaughter, looked into that sweet little face for the first time.

Then she crooned, "Your parents' named you well Kamaya, you truly are a precious one!"

Mom felt even more honored that Mia and Anoki had chosen the name as that's what Mom had called her when she first chatted with her in Mia's tummy.

Dad, knowing he wasn't going to get any grandbaby time soon, settled for chatting with Mia and Anoki while brushing Farley.

Anoki wondered if Mia should be riding so soon but the look of pleasure on her face had him holding his tongue.

And when Dad caught this photo of Mia and Fareshine as they raced around the lot, it was clear that Mia was back in her element, thrilled to be back in the saddle after her pregnancy.

Fareshine shared in that joy as she hadn't been ridden since before her own foal was born.

Until I saw this photo, I hadn't realized just how much her horses and riding meant to Mia.

Fareshine was just as much a part of her family as Anoki and her new daughter!

I doubt very much the chickens, cows, or bees will wheedle such a place in my heart, or any of the fish I catch.

Even though Dad's thoughts were all focused on his grandchild, he made sure Farley was fed and taken care of too.

He even gave the paparazzi, Leon Grub (what a fitting name for him!), his first thoughts on becoming a grandparent, saying, "It's an amazing feeling, Mr. Grub! You raise your children and you're proud of them, of course, but sometimes too busy to really take it all in. With a grandchild, I've got more time to spend with the little one. Well, once the grandmother gets her fill anyway!"

With Mom and Dad's blessing on their engagement, you would have thought that Jeffery would just bask in the glory of his accomplishments.

But Jeffery had his own agenda, one that included reaching the top of his career before he and Mia moved out!

So he up-graded one of the sprinklers in the garden to keep gaining handiness skill and work experience.

Then he kept his momentum going upgrading the sink in the laundry bathroom.

I should have taken a page out of his productive book, but with it being the weekend, I chose to follow his more romantic example and asked Keri out on a date!

After an early dinner at the bistro, we took in a movie, though I have no idea what we saw as I was too busy making out with Keri!

Everyone knows movies are designed for that very purpose, so Keri and I took advantage of the darkened theater.

Afterwards, we sat out on the front walk and pretended to watch the stars, giving us yet another excuse to cuddle and kiss.

But even with our minds on other things, Dad and I didn't forget our responsibilities to the farm.

When he and Mom got home from seeing Kamaya, Dad checked out our new produce stand, looking over the fruits and vegetables offered for sale, and consigning some of his own items, both produce and some of the fish he'd caught over the years.

Dad had even given me the last Red Berry Bean harvest, over 300 of them, so I could consign them for the first time as the gen 4 heir!

I couldn't hide my own proud smile as I completed this task for the first time, the first of many in the years to come.

Bella and Jeffery are now engaged.

Mia and Anoki are the proud parents of a daughter, Kamaya.

And things are settling into a routine on the farm now, with all my new expansions fitting in well.

I've even consigned my first crop of Red Berry Beans using our new produce stand, right here on the farm.

And Keri and I had the best date ever, our first one as young adults!

I feel more confident than ever that I've gotten a better handle on my heirship and running the farm!

Entry 166: A Not So Perfect Wedding
« Reply #224 on: August 18, 2021, 03:05:48 PM »

Wiser sims than I say that when things are going well it's time to be wary not complacent, and I should have taken that warning to heart!

But they also say hindsight is 20-20, something you don't understand until it happens to you!

So early the next morning, when the bees first attacked me, I was totally caught off guard!

Boy did all those bee stings hurt!

I decided to wait a bit and work in the garden, until they calmed down.

Bella joined me saying she felt a need to weed!

For someone who doesn't have a green thumb, Bella's been a big help in the garden.

But just as I thought that she said, "This is probably my last time helping out in the family gardens, Scott.
Jeffery and I have decided not to have a long engagement. In fact, we've scheduled our wedding party for this afternoon after Jeffery gets home from work!"

Everyone kept busy right up until the wedding!

Dad and Grandpa helped me out in the garden too, with weeding, watering, harvesting, anything that needed to be done.

Mom quickly gathered eggs and played with the baby chicks that had been born.

She was right, they were adorable!

But after that chore, Mom put all her energy into setting up the yard for Bella's wedding.

Inside, Josh did what he does best and finished another painting.

Jeffery headed to the Fire Station, his eye still  on the goal of another promotion.

He worked on maintaining and upgrading the fire alarm and truck.

Then he took his all female crew to the gym, where they could all get a good work out and increase their athletic skill.

Apparently, along with being brave, Appaloosa Plains had a unwritten policy that firefighters had to be blonde women!

Until Jeffery came along, with is dark good looks and brave daredevil self and they made an exception for him!

But even though Jeffery did his best to stay focused on training his crew, his thoughts were all about the ceremony this afternoon.

Mom had outdone herself again, her frugalness coming to the fore as she reused chairs and tables we'd had in storage, including a buffet table and a cake table, just switching out the tablecloths for Bella's favorite color, lilac.

But she did purchase two new white wooden stands to serve some of her favorite nectars.

When she had it all planned out, she let me, Dad, and Grandpa, set it up while she supervised, from across the pond as she fished!

Finally it was all set up to her satisfaction, though she made a bit of a face when a group of the gnomes decided to relocate nearby.

We finished just as the first guests were arriving, clustering around Bella, telling her how beautiful she looked in her wedding gown.

Bella had decided it would be a formal dress occasion, especially for the family, but she said guests could wear either formal dress or Island casual since the weather so warm.

Bryce and Lynn's daughter, Carina Schmidt, was the only child in our family old enough to attend, as all the others were still toddlers or nooboos, like her baby brother, Gavin.

She came racing across the lawn all excited to attend her first family wedding and meet family members, including her Great-Aunt Kindle.

Then the crowd hushed as Bella and Jeffery took their places under the wedding arch.

The only sounds sighs and sims stifling happy sobs as they listened to Jeffery begin his vows, "Myrabella Swanson, my life changed the moment I met you! I was swept away by your beauty, your personality, and your brains, all wrapped up into one perfect package. Becoming your boyfriend was a turning point in my life, one that led me to this moment. A moment in time that will change our lives yet again."

Sliding the ring onto her finger, he intoned words that have become ingrained into our hearts, but stir deep feelings despite their simplicity, "With this ring, I thee wed."

He continued with his vows, "Today our two lives and hearts become joined as one. Before our family and friends I promise to love, honor, and cherish you, from this day forward, to protect you, and any children born from our union, against any and all dangers to the best of my ability as you become my wife!"

Bella was smiling, though her eyes were shiny with unshed tears, as she placing a matching band upon Jeffery's outstretched hand, saying, "With this ring, I wed thee, Jeffery Dean. All of my accomplishments, my ambitions, would be meaningless without someone by my side, someone to share them with me. Before our family and friends, I promise to love, honor, and cherish you, as well as our future children, may we be so blessed, to take up my wifely duties lovingly and proudly as I call you my husband from this day forward!"

Sighs and sobs turned to cheering, clapping, and the throwing of rose petals, as my sister and her new husband finalized their vows and embraced for the first time as husband and wife!

Dad shouted from the back, "Introducing my beautiful daughter and handsome new son, Mr. and Mrs. Jeffery Dean!"

Everyone shouted, clapped, and threw more petals, not paying any attention to the fact that Mia's horse, Ripley, had joined the celebratory crowd.

And he was a bit frantic at all the noise!

The new bride and groom were too caught up in their own special moment as Jeffery, not content with a simple wedding kiss, pulled Bella into an embrace, his hands on either side of her face, looking deep into her eyes!

The guests continued throwing petals, excusing such a public display of affection in view of the love and tenderness a newly married couple couldn't help but show.

But when Kimo joined Ripley, his barks unrestrained at seeing his old friend, it drew everyone's attention.

Which quickly focused on the couple nearby, my cousin Evan Gallo and his girlfriend, Ariel Loveland, who were having a rather unpleasant moment, judging by their faces.

My mother tried to divert attention from them as she gaily called out that she was serving a couple of her favorite nectars and encouraged anyone who wanted a glass to grab one.

I was starving by this point and quickly offered to fill the buffet table with Mom's favorite, spaghetti with veggie sauce, and two other offerings, sushi and pumpkin pie.

They seemed like odd pairings but Mom explained that she'd make it so diverse to appeal to all of our guests.

But our maneuverings couldn't stop what was already in motion, and things quickly came to a head and caused my mother to stare at the two of them, until with a sob, and a glare at her boyfriend, Ariel said tightly, "It was a wonderful party, Mrs. Swanson, but I think it's time for me to leave!"

Before the wedding party was totally ruined, Bella quickly cut the cake and Jeffery grabbed a piece.

But several of the guests decided it was time to leave, including Evan, who clapped during the cake cutting, but who clearly wasn't enjoying the party after the argument with Ariel.

Even with some of the guests leaving, the remaining ones demolished that beautiful cake!

Luckily I'd pigged out on spaghetti and pumpkin pie as, by the time I got to the cake table, all that was left was a lone strawberry and some scraps of icing!

The majority of the guests left after that.

Leaving the bride and groom, Mom and Dad, and Catrice and Josh to dance on our new dance floor in the nectary.

I did my duty and took a photo of all three  couples slow dancing.

Along with a close-up of just the bride and groom.

Then I hurried back outside to spend some time with Keri under the stars!

Jeffery and Bella might not mind an audience when they make out, but I prefer privacy.

Despite my precautions, a photo of our make out session was left on my dresser with a note saying, "That's my boy!"

For someone 134 days old, my grandpa sure can sneak around when he puts his mind to it!

Though my day started out with a bee attack and Bella's wedding wasn't exactly perfect, it was still a successful day.

Bella and Jeffery are now happily married.

And I got to spend some romantic time with Keri.

But there are more changes coming soon as Bella and Jeffery have to choose a new home and Catrice and Josh have to decide if they're going to move out with them.

Then it will be my turn for some big decisions.

Asking Keri to move in is a no brainer, but what on earth am I going to do about the bees!?!
