Chapter 60: My New Life-- by Rielle
« Reply #105 on: January 24, 2020, 01:55:29 PM »

It's my birthday, and we'd planned on having a party, you know, since I'm the heir.

But things didn't work out like we planned at all.

First, Dad and Ward got caught in a big storm, so we were all getting worried about them.

I decided to make them something hot to eat and headed for the kitchen.

But then I was engulfed in sparkles with mom blowing a party horn in my ear and Dean twirling a noise maker.

I kept saying, "No, no, this isn't right! Not in the corner! Not without a cake and all of my family here!"

But I couldn't stop it from happening and aged up right there, despite not wanting to.

In ugly braids and awful clothes too!

I just stood there frozen, unable to move.

Then everything went black…

I heard mom calling my name, "Rielle, Rielle, wake up, your cake's ready!"

I'd fallen asleep in the rocker and it was all a dream.

Thank goodness!

I quickly ran to the kitchen and stood before my cake and all the flaming candles with my family around me.

Mom and dad blowing party horns, Ward and Ben looking on solemnly, though Ward's usually all over any type of party.

I took a deep breathe and blew…

As all of the candles snuffed out, I cheered and so did Ward, while Ben started tooting on a party horn like crazy.

I guess they were waiting so they didn't freak me out and distract me from the candles.

But then the sparkles hit and I closed my eyes against the brightness.

Mom, Ward, and Ben were cheering and clapping wildly for me now.

This was more like it!

But when the sparkles disappeared, I was dismayed to find that the ugly braids were back and my clothes were even worse than in the dream!

I mean, neon yellow and bright blue with my blonde hair with purple tips? Yikes!

Mom hadn't noticed as she was tooting a horn, but both Ward and Ben had gone silent, and I knew it was the clothes as they hadn't even seen the hair yet.

I quickly ran to the bedroom and donned the outfit I'd picked out for my new everyday look.

I'm pretty sure it's a dead giveaway for my new trait and gen 2 farm expansion.

And I took my hair out of those horrible braids!

It hangs straight down my back now, long, and lush with purple streaks blooming on the ends.

I pass on cake as I have a mission, one I'm starting on first thing.

I head to a huge building on the edge of town and make my selection.

And then I come out with the latest addition to our family, Sunshine Horse!

She's a black beauty with four white socks, and a white star on her forehead.

She's untrained but fast, but I'm new to riding too, so we'll learn together.

It'll help that I picked equestrian for my new trait, though my backside is already uncomfortable!

I dismount, to both my backside and Sunshine's relief, and let her sniff my hand.

The stable hand inside had told me that the first thing I needed to do was to make friends with her.

Once that was done, we could begin training together.

He'd shown me how to brush her, so I did that too.

And while I was doing that, I talked to her quietly, just like he said to, making her feel calm and safe with me.

He told me that trust between a horse and it's rider was the key.

But it was getting late and we needed to get back home.

I popped on her leading reign and we started off.

About half-way home I got the courage to try riding her again and she must have been as eager as me as she picked up her feet and trotted along nicely.

It was late when we arrived, and I knew she must be tired after all that distance.

So I quickly removed her saddle and gave her a quick rub down.

Then I showed Sunshine her new home.

A brand new barn with her own stall, and training paddock!

Mom and dad had worked with me and the construction crew to have it completed by my birthday.

And it was perfect!

It had one large stall inside, complete with hay and water trough, plenty big enough for one horse.

With lots of space for tack, extra blankets and saddles, and extra hay.

It's pretty bare right now, but it's got everything Sunshine will need.

With Sunshine happily munching on hay in her stall, I went to City hall, and registered as a Horsewoman.

The long ride home gave me the skill point to qualify, and it will help me keep track of my earnings.

I'm not sure how much money horse racing will contribute to the farm, but I'm hoping it's enough to complete my Lifetime Wish, The Jockey: max riding skill and Win/Earn 40,000 Simoleans as a Jockey.

Next up I asked everyone in the family what they'd like for our gen 2 home expansion.

Ben and Ward discussed their choices over breakfast, while Dean and dad talked their choices over.

They all came up with some really great ideas, but the boys all agreed on one in particular.

A room and bathroom of their own on the second floor!

Since expanding the upstairs and giving us more living space was at the top of mom's and my wish list too, we had the work done fast!

Here's what it looks like now.

And with the boy's room moved upstairs that gave us the space to put all of the nooboo stuff back there in storage until it's needed.

Which freed up the sitting room so I surprised the family with our first couch, TV, and game console!

Dad was the first one to check it out, settling on the couch and watching a game on TV.

I think I made some good choices for my family and I'm glad I let them be a part of it.

It made all the renovations mean so much more to everyone with me taking their requests into consideration, rather than just me getting what I wanted.

Especially when what I wanted had more to do with the farm expansion and working with Sunshine.

First thing in the morning, with both of us well rested, I started off my day with some quick calisthenics to get loosened up and then hurried outside to spend some time with her.

Once we got re-acquainted, we started our racing training right away.

Sunshine may be untrained but she is fast!

We both had skill points under our belt after just a few times around the racing posts.

But the rest of the day wasn't a happy one.

Mom got a call from Grandpa George and hurried over to their house.

And got the news that my grandmother, Brina Dean, had passed away!

Grandpa George was heart-broken, of course, grandma had been the love of his life!

Mom did her best to ease the hurt, but pain like that doesn't go away quickly, sometimes ever.

Especially for someone as good as my grandpa George.

He ranted a bit about Grim, angry at him for taking her away from him.

And mom let him do it, as it's a natural step in the grieving process.

He was even too hurt to make any plans for a memorial or graveside service right now.

And too upset to eat, though mom made sure to tell my Aunt Sammi she'd left some food in the fridge and for all of them to eat, despite the circumstances and feeling so sad.

Dad was too upset to talk to any of his family, he tried, but ended up rushing home, without going inside.

We found him later putting all his feelings into stomping another batch of fruit!

Dad's go-to has been focusing on nectar-making whenever he's feeling upset.

As I thought about that, I wondered if, somehow, he was transferring those feelings into the nectar itself!?!

It could explain a lot of those poor and awful blends, that's for sure.

My first entry has been filled with me aging up and taking over heirship and the journal.

The farm expansion and house expansions are done for my generation as we moved upstairs to the second floor and finally have a real living room with a couch and TV.

My new life has begun with Sunshine and I getting acquainted and starting our training, both of us eager for our first race.

But sadness has descended over that with the loss of my Grandma, Brina Nolan Dean.

I love you grandma and I miss you!

But you will never be forgotten, as every time I look in a mirror, I see your legacy in my beautiful blonde/purple hair, something I share with both your daughters, my aunts Nikki and Sammi.

And who knows, I may pass it on to one of my own children!

But before that can happen, my brothers need to grow up and start lives of their own.

I'll keep you posted with my next entry, Chapter 61: Training and Next Steps
Coming soon.

Chapter 61: Training and Next Steps
« Reply #106 on: January 27, 2020, 02:30:33 PM »
After some intense hours of training, a nice rest, and some healthy hay, Sunshine and I feel ready to take on something more.

I have 3 skill points in riding and Sunshine has 3 in racing, so we head into town.

With the fresh air streaming by us, filling Sunshine with energy, I have to slow her down so she doesn't use all her speed on getting us to the center!

There are two equestrian centers to choose from and we choose the smaller one and a beginner race.

I'm feeling good about it and so is Sunshine.

We wait our turn for entering, with Sunshine stomping her feet in anticipation.

Once inside, we take our places at the starting gate and Sunshine takes off like the wind as soon as the bell goes off!

I was feeling hopeful to just place in the top three, but within minutes we are in 2nd place!

And then, the lead horse stumbles, and seeing our chance at actually winning our first race, we take it.

To my delight, we keep the lead, and take first place, winning $600 simoleans!

It's not a lot, but it's a start, though trying to reach my goal of $40,000 seems a bit daunting.

I've heard that raising, training, and selling horses brings in more money, but unfortunately doesn't add to my race winnings.

If I can reach my goal, I may try that later, if we've got room for more horses.

With a first place ribbon and it's cash winnings under our belt, I head down to the nectary to celebrate.

As I look over dad's nectar racks, he says, "Nope those are my special bottles, they need to stay in those racks and age and become worth some real money!"

"How much are they worth now?"

"I'm keeping bottles in there that are at least $100 in value, but I've got a select few that go over $500!"

When I think of all that I had to do to earn $600 dollars, it seems like a great turn around.

But when I think of our red berry beans and how much less effort goes into growing them now that they've reach perfect quality, I can see why mom's sticking with them for the bulk of our income.

You need perfect fruits, and maxed nectar-making skill, to get nectar blends of that quality!

But with dad being able to do that down here, safely underground, it works for him.

I still want to celebrate my first racing victory though, so I ask, "Don't you have any nectar I can try?"

"Sure honey. Those racks along the back wall should be fine. Check the labels though, some of them are terrible blends. I made those when I was first starting out, but I can't bear to waste them and dump them out."

I turn to the back wall, find a bottle that says it's nice, and try that one.

Serving it up in four wine glasses.

I set the tray on a nearby counter, grabbed a glass, and sat down at the table.

I took a sip, then another, and dad asked, "So what do you think?"

I took another swallow, shrugged, and said, "All nectar tastes the same to me!"

Dad's face falls until I laugh and add, "It's the first glass I've ever had dad. I have nothing to compare it with."

He shakes his head and says, "True. I should have realized that! Now that you're old enough, we'll have to do some taste testing some time. I tried a glass or two when I first started but I've been so busy making nectar I've not really tasted many blends either." Making a face, he adds, "Honestly, they were pretty bad, but I did get quite the sugar rush!"

Then I worked out a bit while dad did some more work in his nectary gardens.

He uses the grow station for watering mostly, as doing three plots by hand is exhausting, and sprinklers won't work with the gardening soil rugs that allow things to grow down here.

The three plots have all the specialty grapes mom ordered from France, plus life fruit and flame fruit plants, most of which is quite high in quality, with some being perfect specimens.

We're all really proud of what Dad's accomplished with his nectary gardens and his awesome blends of nectar, though he's not sold any yet, preferring to let his high dollar blends age and become more valuable.

I hope the barn and stables, along with my horse Sunshine, prove to be just as satisfying for me.

The next morning, I'm back at it, starting the day off right with a good brushing for Sunshine.

With all my attention and care, we're fast becoming good friends, and I'm developing the trusting relationship I need to use her speed to it's best advantage.

We train for a good part of the day, with both of us gaining confidence along with skill.

Then I get a call from Leonard asking if he can come visit.

He surprises me when he shows up as his new grown up, young adult self!

But no matter how he looks, though I find him even more attractive, he's still my Leonard.

And it doesn't take long for us to share a loving hug.

Or flirt!

Though it is a bit more intense since we're no longer teens.

Our hands touching sends a shock of feelings through both of us, and I see Leonard's eyes darken with desire.

I know my own must be showing him the same thing.

Then dad shows up and we both freeze, just like when we were teens, caught up in romance!

Dad sighs with the effort of his control, and says, "You'll always be my little girl Rielle, but you're both grown up now and I'll leave grown up choices to the both of you." After a pause, he adds, "But please consider your actions wisely. And Leonard, don't hurt my daughter!"

With dad's blessing, Leonard loosens up and jokes around, flashing me a smile and a flirty look.

Then he blushes, as I coyly flirt back.

I guess were still not quite used to our new young adult selves.

But with a romantic squeeze expressing all of our pent up feelings, I know he's the guy for me.

I have no doubts about that at all.

I drop to one knee, pop out the ring that's been burning a hole in my jacket since I bought it, all of three days ago!

And watch Leonard's look turn to one of surprised shock as I say, "Leonard Diwan Kindle, my best friend, the love of my life, today, tomorrow, and always, marry me?"

But it's the shock of me doing the asking, not of rejection, as he yells, "Yes, yes," and holds out his hand with a loving look in his eyes.

Uncle Carter nodded in appreciation of my actions, saying, "That's how a hopeless romantic does it Rielle! Your grandpa would be proud of you! I think of him every time I give Misti flowers or serenade her. Nice to see the next generation following our example."

My eyes are still on Leonard, the joy in my heart almost more than I can take, as I say, "It's easy to be romantic when there's so much love between two sims."

Our romantic moment comes to an abrupt halt as birthday guests start arriving, and with the rise of the full moon, the transformation of one into a werewolf!

It's my cousin Mitchel Rios, who's change was so quickly upon him, he nearly had Aunt Rayne going into labor!

Her eyes flew open wide in shock, her hands clenched in terror she couldn't control.

But Mitchell's low growl of, "Sorry, Aunt Rayne, still not used to that myself!" slowed her fast-beating heart back down to normal.

Then Ward was calling us into the kitchen, saying, "Gather round everyone, Ben's getting ready to blow out his candles!"

We all grouped together in the kitchen for this momentous event, family and friends, with genies, fairies, and werewolves among them.

With party horns blaring, noise makers twirling, and Mom yelling happy birthday wishes to her youngest child.

A child that's becoming a teen, giving her number five, and completing her Lifetime Wish!

With the birthday sparkles gone, Ben's a teenager with the bold cheekbones of the Dean family genetics obvious to all, add to that his dark eyes and hair, he's a girl magnet for sure!

And with so many occults in town, not to mention attending his party, Ben chooses supernatural fan for his teen trait.

I raise an eyebrow as I wonder which occult girl he'll end up with, this tall, dark, and handsome brother of mine.

Will she be a genie like our cousin Nicola?

Or perhaps a fairy with gossamer wings, like those in the Aragon family or cousin Errol?

Looks like Ben's more interested in cake right now than choosing a girlfriend!

But I can't resist taking a photo of Ben's own raised eyebrow when he notices cousin Mitchel's werewolf self crouched on a chair getting ready to attack his piece of birthday cake!

There are some aspects of Supernaturals that still take some getting used to.

Things are moving along nicely for my second entry.

Ben's a teen now so Mom's completed her Lifetime Wish, though I'm just getting started on my own.

And Leonard's now my fiancé!

We haven't discussed if we want a long or short engagement, or any other plans for our future.

But all in good time.

Let's see what we decide on in my next entry, Chapter 62: Romance Is In the Air

Chapter 62: Romance Is In the Air
« Reply #107 on: January 30, 2020, 12:45:33 PM »

With the party over, Leonard and I discuss wedding plans, "I'm happy with whatever you want Rielle, planning stuff isn't my strong suit, not with a memory like mine!"

"That's okay Leonard, between me and mom, I think we can plan a nice ceremony"

"But nothing's stopping you from moving in now, if you want to you. We are engaged after all!"

Considering my words thoughtfully, he replies, "We are, but I think it's best if we give your dad a few days to get used to that. Knowing we are young adults and telling us it's okay to make our own decisions, is one thing. But having me move in and share a room with you? Your dad's not going to take that easily. He may be close to becoming an elder, but he's the fittest man I know and I don't want to be on the receiving end of a lecture or worse!"

Knowing Leonard has brought up a good point, I nod, and say, "You're right there. Giving dad some time to get used to me not being a little girl anymore is probably for the best."

Reluctantly, we kiss good night, and Leonard and I head to our separate homes and beds.

Minutes later, there's a loud noise coming from above and colored lights flashing in the sky.

But Dean, coming out of the shed, is the only one to hear them and he ran over to check them out.

He told us later that a beam of light engulfed him and pulled him up into the sky!

Moments later he was returned just as quickly.

He said the alien didn't say much, only that he wasn't suitable for their purposes at this time.

Mom, Ward and I, wondered what that purpose was, but none of us dared ask, expecting it was best not to know.

Though dad and Ben got into a heated discussion on the pros and cons of the encounter being real, and the existence of alien life forms.

Dad's take on it was that Dean had been sipping on too much nectar, fell asleep, and had a horrible nightmare.

Ben is convinced that aliens do exist and was disappointed he missed the whole thing.

Needless to say, Dean decided to stay inside for the next few nights!

The weekend brought socializing and romance for me and all three of my brothers.

Trying to put his recent abduction behind him, Dean invited Danica Gallo over and spent some romantic time with her.

Then he moved their relationship to the next level as he asked her to be his girlfriend!

Danica didn't say a word, but put her answer in a sweet kiss.

Mom was thrilled because she really likes Danica, a girl who's both pretty and nice, though she has a bad habit of asking for money and food.

But if that's her worst quality, and she loves Dean, then we can live with it.

Ward invited Diana Aragon over, one of the few female classmates he has that he's not related to, and that he's had a crush on since grade school.

She's been dating our cousin Vance Rhoen though, and Ward, good guy that he is, doesn't want to interfere with that.

But he's been furthering their friendship, because you never know what may happen!

Ben invited over a girl that had attended his party, but picked out a new outfit before she arrived.

To my surprise he didn't choose either a genie or a fairy, or even a werewolf, but one who's a at the top of the Supernatural food chain, a vampire!

Her name's Nicole Culver, and her family was one of the first to settle here in Aggie's Corner.

They got along quite well, and quickly became friends.

I spent most of the day exercising Sunshine and building up our skills for our next race.

Ward and Diana had been busy chatting all day, seeming to all of us to be more than just friends.

So when Ward offered her a massage, and she accepted, none of us were very surprised!

Though we were rather upset with Diana as she was still Vance's girlfriend.

In fact, before the night was over, their casual group turned into a date!

And Ward even asked her to prom!

With a very romantic goodbye hug!

But he felt so badly about Vance, he invited him over to explain.

How he's liked Diana since they were kids in grade school, and how sorry he was for how things had turned out.

His apology was sincere and he wanted a truce between them.

But, as you can guess, it didn't go well at all!

We tried to warn Ward that no matter how sincere or honest he was, no one likes finding out their partner is involved with someone else.

Least of all another family member!

With the teen drama over and the porch free, Ben followed his older brothers' actions and furthered his friendship with Nicole.

He started with some flirting, and despite the fact that he'd changed into sleep wear, or maybe because of it, Nicole was very receptive!

I mean what girl could resist a dark-haired, tousle-headed young man showing of his muscular arms?

So he moved on to giving her a massage.

Nicole's happy little sighs gave clear indication that she liked that too, very much!

And then, though we shouldn't have been peeking, we saw their first kiss!

Mom shared a look with the rest of us and motioned that we should move away and give them some privacy.

I pretended that I didn't see her as there was no way I was missing such a romantic interlude.

My baby brother was on a roll at that point and didn't waste any time asking her to be his girl!

I guess he wasn't taking any chances on her meeting another guy and getting snatched up.

And he locked her in as his prom date too, not bad for a guy who's only been a teen for about 24 hours!

Ben may not be a hopeless romantic like me, but he's obviously been paying close attention to his older siblings' relationships.

But with the sun setting, and Sunshine curried and in her stall, I invited Leonard over.

"I know we wanted to give dad more time to get used to the idea Leonard, but I was miserable last night, all alone, thinking of you, of us being together! Please reconsider and move in with me?!"

I was expecting a bit of an argument but he said, "Last night, without you, was the worst night of my life! I don't want to ever feel like that again. In fact, my stuff's in my car!"

To make it official, we gave him a whole new wardrobe, but for my journal photo, he chose his new career outfit.

Here's my fiancé, Leonard Diwan-Kimble on the night he joined our family!

Curious about his outfit?

Turns out not only is he absent-minded, but he's also a slob, a brave, slob!

I felt bad telling him that our family wasn't allowed to travel so he'd have to give up his 'Made the Most of My Time' LTW, and choose another one he could try to complete staying here in town.

And pick one of the three farm jobs that we had available, gardening, nectar-making, or horse racing.

He didn't seem to mind and chose 'Super Popular', though he's only got 4 friends currently, which was a choice that surprised me.

But he already had three gardening skill points, so he opted to choose that as his career, helping us in the farm garden as well as in dad's nectary garden, freeing dad up for nectar-making and me to train and race.

As he pointed out, grubbing about in gardens all day, his clothes should look the part.

If it makes him more comfortable then what are a few stains and rips?

Mom laughed and said his outfit reminded her of some of the cast-offs grandpa used to bring home when she was a kid!

No matter what he's wearing, I can't resist my Leonard, now more than ever!

And with this photo going in as my favorite, can you blame me?

The look he gave me when he donned his sleepwear was nothing less than smoldering!

And when he confessed that he got schmoozer at teen, and an even more romantic trait when he became a young adult, well, everything suddenly became clear.

That was definitely the reason why I couldn't take my eyes off of him since his birthday, he wasn't just my sweet Leonard anymore, he was now irresistible!

Which explained the LTW he chose as with him being so appealing, I'm sure he'll make friends fast.

What a romantic day for the Swanson family!

Dean and Ben both have girlfriends, Danica Gallo and Nicole Culver, respectively.

Ward's following his heart and pursuing Diana Aragon, even though it's caused some bad feelings between him and our cousin Vance.

And both Ward and Ben have dates for prom.

Best of all, the love of my life, my fiancé, Leonard, has moved in!

I'm so looking forward to the days ahead, not just for the thrill of racing Sunshine, or for our upcoming wedding, but mostly for sharing my days and nights with Leonard, being together all the time!

Though the next big event isn't about me and Leonard much at all.

Join me for upcoming events in Chapter 63: Dean's YA Birthday

Chapter 63: Dean's YA Birthday
« Reply #108 on: February 04, 2020, 12:52:29 PM »
The next morning, after a wonderful night spent in Leonard's strong arms, we stepped outside to watch the sun rise on our first morning together.

Leonard's smile told me more than any words just how happy he was to be here, to be with me.

But we both had things to do, a busy day ahead.

So Leonard donned his work clothes, his grin growing wider at the look and feel of them.

I couldn't help but notice, that even in messy work clothes, he's just so cute!

And he started working in the nectary garden straight away.

With the nip in the air, I didn't waste any time changing into my riding gear and getting Sunshine ready for a day of training.

The sky was overcast and I wanted to get in enough time to gain us both skill points before the snow came as the weather forecast was for a big storm heading our way.

We could still practice, but it wasn't the most comfortable for either of us, being all cold and wet.

And mom got a call that she'd been waiting on for a few weeks, so she headed over to the Kindle home.

She found Karie Kindle, Leonard's mom, outside playing guitar with one of his young twin sister's watching nearby.

But what made mom's heart fill more than that was seeing all the cats!

The Kindle's female cat, Ilea, had had a previous litter of triplets, with two of those grown but still at home.

Ilea's newest litter consisted of two kittens, a female, Belle, and a male, Cymoril, which were also our Flynn's kittens!

Mom couldn't resist a close up of little Gracie or Julia, she was a little vague on which one she was in all her excitement over our cat Flynn finally becoming a father.

But I think my little sister-in-law-to-be is adorable!

Seeing her, I couldn't help but dream about what Leonard's and my own children would look like.

I hope one of them gets his dark good looks, especially a son.

Mom kept going on and on about Flynn's kittens and totally missed the dreamy look in my eyes.

I can't blame her, as with the house currently full, no way to follow through on that right now anyway.

Though I know that after Breeze and Barrett got married, mom popped a wish for a grandchild first thing!

Mom kept her distance since the kittens were so young, though it was hard, and let Ilea groom her new offspring.

I know mom's planning on adopting one of them as soon as we have available space for another pet.

Ben, another cat lover, is all for this idea, and I think he plans on adopting the other one when he moves out, keeping our Flynn's kittens in the family.

But mom had another stop on her way home, checking up on another new addition to our family.

Here's Aunt Rayne's youngest, a daughter, who's also a genie, just like her older siblings, Nicola and Lamar!

Mom congratulated Rayne while Lamar kept looking out the window, watching the snow and wondering if there'd be school in the morning, like all school-age kids do at the first sign of a snow flake.

Seeing Lamar's tow head, I see Grandpa Jerad's blonde hair is still going strong, being passed down to him too.

Looks like Lamar got his wish, as soon after the kids went to school the next morning, the snow got so bad, that they dismissed school early.

Ward put the finishing touches on a snowman while Dean and Ben chatted waiting for their bus.

With school closed, we decided to have Dean's YA birthday in the afternoon, to give him plenty of time to get to his cake.

With the nightmare of my YA birthday in the corner, with no cake and only two family members, fresh in my mind, I didn't want him having that happen for real.

Even with the snow, Dean's girlfriend, Danica Gallo, showed up as his special guest.

She'd had her YA birthday the night before, and today was her first day working at the school, a day that was cut short before it really began, but she proudly showed off her career outfit.

Even though Dean was trying to focus on his cake, I could see the little sneak peeks they were sharing.

It was nice to know that they were still so much in love, despite their age difference right now.

But with that in mind, Dean didn't want to wait any longer, so he quickly made his wish and blew out his candles.

Dad and Leonard blew party horns, Ward clapped and yelled birthday wishes, while Danica couldn't help  a nervous smile.

But when the sparkles hit him, she joined in with some loud toots on her own party horn.

Our cats, Kobe and Flynn had joined us and were adding their yowls and howls to the birthday party noise.

I shared a smile with Leonard as our eyes met from across the room.

We don't want to lose Dean, but him becoming a young adult was one step closer to him moving out and leaving a space in our household.

And with the sparkles gone, my oldest brother stood before us a young adult.

His nearly shaved head was a shock as it changed him so completely he was almost unrecognizable.

But he was awfully proud of his new young adult self and posed, hands on hips, while Ben blew his own party horn to show his birthday spirit.

Dean showed his new trait by bypassing cake and asking Danica to join him for a game of chess.

She agrees though she warns him she won't be any competition for Dean as he's now a genius!

But it's the next part of their conversation that has me a bit startled.

She raised her hand and slowly said, "I want to get this out there before I lose my nerve. I know we'd talked about when we were both out of school, getting our own place, being the boss of ourselves. But now, with so many changes happening so fast, birthdays, final traits, choosing careers, and my mom and I being the only ones in our family home, I'm not sure we should move in together just yet."

Frowning at the board, Dean replies, "Of course not, I want you to be sure about me, about us, Danica. I don't want you to feel that it's required of you to ask me just because I need a place, not being heir to the farm. I know my mom wants a grandchild asap, but Rielle and Leonard haven't even set a date for their wedding yet, let alone discussed having children. So there's no rush." His voice got tender as he added, "Let's take a few days to get to know each other again, adjust to our young adult selves and responsibilities. We haven't even decided on the images we want for ourselves now that we've grown up and have all five of our traits to consider."

Danica, a bit surprised at this bit of thought and wisdom coming from my rebellious brother, smiled  with relief and said, "Thank goodness! I was so nervous about bringing that up! You'd always told me you'd wanted to move out right after your birthday, so this is a welcome change. I see your new trait has already tempered your old teen self. Honestly, I was surprised that you picked the trait you did."

"Well, it was something my dad really wanted, me to become a genius and be able to balance that against my rebelliousness, to not be quite so gung-ho about fighting the system, giving me a chance to weigh both sides of the picture before rushing head first into a situation."

Her smile growing bigger and a bit more confident, Danica said, "I approve 100%! Now, let's get this massacre over with so we can get to something more fun, our new images!"

With the game over quickly, Dean goes first and decides his shaved head, though befitting a nerdy genius, is not his style at all.

Being athletic, he decides he wants this photo in my journal, just so he can show off how well he can pull off wearing red with his red hair!

I have to admit it, he does look great in red.

And for outerwear, a layered look that's warm, since he plans on being outside a lot, indulging his love of the outdoors as much as our father does the opposite and happily hides in the basement nectary.

How he can pull off orange too, is a mystery to me, but he does it anyway!

I must confess, I'm a little jealous as I have to be way more aware of colors clashing with my blonde, purple tipped hair color.

Danica goes for a more balanced hair style, something that will be easy to care for while she's in a classroom full of children.

With a touch of make-up, she looks breath-takingly lovely and so sweet.

Between her dark good looks and Dean's handsome ones, I'm thinking they are going to have beautiful children together someday!

Danica also shows off her athletic wear, knowing it's not something she'll be wearing often at our house.

I love her lavender tank and flirty black tennis skirt, even though I've never ever seen anyone play tennis in town.

It's more likely a leftover from her Drama Club, I think Dean mentioned she belonged to that and that she'd played a cheerleader for one of their plays.

Whatever the reason, she looks so cute I'm sure no one else will even wonder about it.

I probably wouldn't be either if I wasn't keeping this journal.

With all of their outfits chosen, and both of them comfortable in everyday wear, they sit back down at the chess table with Dean saying, "You were right, that first game was a massacre! Why didn't you tell me you'd never played before!?!"

Danica let out a breathe and said, "I was too worried that you'd be upset that I didn't want us to live together right away. I thought you'd break up with me as soon as I mentioned it! Chess wasn't in my list of worries at all!"

Dean grimaces and says, "Wow, how much of a rebellious, over-bearing, teen jerk was I?" But before Danica can reply, he adds, with a laugh, "Please don't answer that question! I'm sure I don't want to know!"

Focusing on the chess board he says, "First off, let me explain what each piece is called and how they are allowed to move. Then we'll do some practice plays until you get the hang of it. Learning chess it pretty easy, but mastering the strategy of it can take a life time."

After breaking the ice with the mental processes of learning chess, I find Dean and Danica moving on to exploring their emotional states as new young adults.

First, a little flirting.

Then Dean says, "Since I missed your party last night, Happy Birthday sweetheart!" and surprises her with flowers!

There was no hiding Danica's pleasure as her, "Oh, Dean, they're beautiful!" was heard through the whole house.

It was quiet for a while after that so I let them have a bit of privacy.

But I couldn't resist a peek, and a quick photo as they hugged goodbye, with Danica saying, "I'd love to stay but I was up early for my first day in the classroom as a monitor instead of a student. They sent us all home early, of course, with the snow, but I'm not used to being awake that early. I would never have believed anyone who said school is harder for the teachers than the students! I've got a lot to learn."

Dean quickly said, "How could I have been so thoughtless? You get home and get some rest. I'll call you soon so we can spend some time together."

With my head spinning about what Dean said to Danica, especially the part about Leonard and I not even having a date set for the wedding, I call Leonard into the kitchen.

Trying to keep a straight face, I say, "It has been brought to my attention Mr. Kindle that we have been remiss in our duties as the heir couple!"

Leonard raises an eyebrow at me, opens his hands invitingly, and asks, "In just what way, Ms. Swanson? I'd be happy to rectify that error, especially if it means more alone time with you!"

I can't resist Leonard's flirty invitation and I step into his waiting arms.

"I overheard Dean telling Danica there's no rush on him moving out as we haven't even set a date for our wedding."

As I lock eyes with Leonard, my mouth goes dry as he says, "I'm free tomorrow night if that works for you!?!"

"Tomorrow night!?! But…"

Caressing my hair, he says, "Tomorrow night is Snowflake Day Eve, I can't think of a greater gift than for us to become husband and wife."

My breathe catches and my eyes fill with tears, ready to spill over any moment, I can barely hear my own words as I whisper, "Married on Snowflake Day Eve, how perfectly romantic. You sure know the quickest way to my heart, my sweet."

As it was with Dean and Danica, no words were needed for quite some time after that.

Dean is a young adult now, along with his girlfriend Danica.

Overhearing a bit of his conversation with her pushed me into asking Leonard about setting a date for our wedding.

To my shock, but bringing a romantic flutter to my heart, Leonard suggested tomorrow night, Snowflake Day Eve!

So despites Dean's words, or maybe because of them, not only have we set a wedding date but it's happening fast!

Can a whirlwind wedding satisfy my romantic heart?

I'll reveal all the details in Chapter 64: Whirlwind Wedding

Chapter 64: Whirlwind Wedding
« Reply #109 on: February 09, 2020, 02:29:13 PM »
I share the news with Mom and she laughs and cries with me, then she springs into action.

"My black and white short formal just won't cut it for your winter wedding Rielle! Help me pick out something stylish that can be here by tomorrow night."

We flip through a few dresses and gowns and then settle on both our favorites.

Hers is still in black and white but much more appropriate for a cold season wedding, with a black, full-length, slightly flared skirt and matching jacket with 3/4 length sleeves , along with a fitted white silk top .

When it arrives and Mom tries it on, she looks amazing in it, so fit and trim, more like my sister than my mom!

She even blushes when I mention it, saying, "It still doesn't seem like me, honey. I've always taken after your grandpa Jerad rather than your grandma Brooke when it comes to body shape. It may not last, but at least I know all that exercising paid off."

"Since this photo's going in my journal, it will be remembered by all of us Mom. For years to come!"

Then mom helps me into my wedding gown.

My. Wedding. Gown.

The very words make my heart stutter and my pulse race!

A day I've dreamed about since I became a teen, spending so much time reading romance novels and planning my own wedding over and over again.

On the beach in summer, with me in a white, gauzy dress.

Or springtime, with romance in the very air, and new life budding all around us.

Never fall, as I'd always thought the gold, crimson, and orange colors would clash terribly with my hair.

But now the reality, a winter wedding, on Snowflake Day Eve!

How could Leonard have come up with the perfect romantic wedding day for us after I'd imagined it over and over again for all those years?

I blurt out this question and Mom smiles and says, "Because he knows your heart Rielle. He knows you. But no matter what he knows, he's going to be stunned when he sees you in this gown!"

Mom takes me downstairs to the nectary garden and has me pose beside our family wedding arch.

I hope she's right because there's nothing I want more than to be beautiful, to be perfect, for my cute, sweet Leonard.

Leonard was busy too, calling his parents and inviting them over, his excitement showing all over his face as he told them we were getting married, this very evening!

His parents showed up dressed for the snowy, cold weather, telling him they brought their formal wear as it was much too cold to come out dressed in it.

Leonard told me later that his mom was overwhelmed by the beauty of our farm, even covered in snow.

I couldn't wait to share that bit of news with my mom as I knew she'd be so proud after all of our families' hard work over the years.

And with the arrival of our few guests, it was time!

I'd worried that having the ceremony in the basement would seem dark and dingy, but dad and the boys had worked hard all day adding extra lights, and getting small tables and chairs ready, they even remembered to bring the cake table.

But when Leonard joined me under the arch, my only thought was of him, my true love, keeper of my heart, and, oh, the butterflies he caused looking so handsome in his suit!

Once everyone had gathered round, with mom and dad front and center, the ceremony began.

I thought I'd be nervous but Leonard's tender look had me repeating the vows I'd practiced with ease.

"I, Rielle Swanson, take thee, Leonard Diwan Kindle, to be my wedded husband, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, facing our troubles and joys together, not as two, but as one, friends, partners, lovers, as I call you husband from this day forward, and promise to do all I can to keep our love alive, growing, maturing, as we begin our journey together as husband and wife."

I hear gasps from our family and friends as I finish my vows and Leonard places the ring on my finger.

Out of the corner of my eye, I see both sets of parents and Danica clasping their hands together as my words touch their hearts.

And then my whole focus is on Leonard as he says his vows to me.

He told me he was keeping it short and sweet, and he did, but his words will stay forever in my mind and heart.

"I Leonard Diwan Kindle, take thee, Rielle Swanson, to be my wedded wife, from this day forward I promise my love to you and you only, the light of my life, today, tomorrow, and always."

As Leonard and I shared our mandatory kiss, I don't think there were many dry eyes in the room.

But our only thought was of each other, as the kiss went on and on.

Until all the throat clearing reached us, and both breathless, we turned to smile at the group, officially husband and wife!

And then I caught Dean's loving look at Danica, seeing her in her formalwear, looking so grown up and beautiful.

I have a feeling that once he moves out, news of their engagement won't be far behind.

Then I overheard Rhone's mom, well, my mother-in-law now, say, "Just think Summer, we're not just related through cats now, but through our children. I'm a bit sad that Leonard had to give up our last names, but so thrilled to have gained another daughter. Grandchildren can't be that far behind!"

Mom and I were both a bit startled to hear those words coming from Karie, as she had toddler daughters, but her next words filled us in on her excitement.

"And to think that they'll be born into one of the founding families of the town! My Leonard not only picked a pretty girl, but one who's already a bit of a celebrity, color me impressed!"

While Leonard and I had been so engrossed in our kiss, dad and the boys had been busy setting up the small tables and chairs, and mom had gotten the wedding cake set up.

I heard mom Kindle gasp as she saw the cake, and I couldn't resist staring a bit myself, committing it to memory, as I waited for Leonard to join me.

Dean even clapped as both Ward and Ben cheered at the sight of it, letting me and mom know it wasn't just Karie Kindle who found it impressive.

Just as Leonard made it to my side, we could all hear Sunshine galloping over head.

Something must have startled her, so Dad quickly headed for the stairs saying he'd check on her while we continued with the cake cutting.

Once it was done, with Leonard and I giving each other bites, and me wiping frosting off my nose at his misaimed attempt at my mouth, the rest of our guests grabbed slices and settled at tables to chat while they ate.

When Ben joined Leonard, plate in hand, eagerly taking a bite, they talked about art.

Dean had gotten distracted by something right after setting his plate down, and this time it was Mom who noticed Danica giving him a romantic look.

Mom likes Danica so much I know she's hoping for that engagement news too, wanting Dean settled down with a girl who's not only got a lovely face but a personality to match.

While I found myself at a table with my new father-in-law, Rhone Kindle.

He was looking pretty tired as it was getting late, so I asked if he'd like some coffee with his cake.

Dad had returned by then, having gotten Sunshine settled in her stall, and told me he'd be happy to get us all some coffee.

But Rhone declined saying, "It's late, so we'll just eat our cake and head back home. Our babysitter will have her hands full with the twins and all the cats. It's been pretty wild at our house since we moved here. First, Karie and I were focused on our new jobs, Leonard was busy with school, then we got a cat, then there were kittens, and then, even more surprising, twin daughters, and then more kittens! It's no wonder Leonard was so eager to spend time over here. Besides getting away from all of that, he had the draw of your lovely daughter."

Dad replied, "Leonard was telling us all about that one evening. It was after he mentioned your cat and her kittens that Summer called Karie and talked her into breeding your Ilea with our Flynn. So I guess part of the wildness is our fault, but we'll be taking those two kittens of Flynn's off your hands as soon as we can."

Rhone laughed and said, "It's not a problem Nolan, whenever it happens. I'm used to working in controlled chaos, and tripping over kittens, cats, and toddler toys! Even if those weren't around, I'd probably trip over air!"

Dad wasn't sure what to say to that, and neither was I.

This was the first time we'd actually met Leonard's parents and his dad was just as eccentric as Leonard had mentioned, and apparently clumsy too!

Dad saved himself from replying by asking mom to dance.

They may have two married daughters, but they sure didn't look their age.

Mom was smiling, enjoying the wedding so much, and looking so happy and pretty with dad so handsome in his suit as he held her close.

I would have liked to hear some of their whispered conversation, but I was too far away saying good-bye to my new in-laws.

Besides, with the way they were looking at each other, I'm sure their words were private.

Then Leonard said, "May I have this dance Mrs. Swanson?" and thoughts of mom and dad went right out of my head!

I glided into my new husband's arms and we slowly moved to the music.

I'd made my brothers promise to get some nice photos of the wedding and they didn't let me down.

This one will always be one of my favorites, the sweet smile on Leonard's face as we dance is one I will cherish even when we're old and gray.

Then Ward got one of me and Leonard and mom and dad.

Nectar-makers might not be the stuff of most romantic weddings, but the smell was quite intoxicating.

Later dad confessed that he'd been making batches of concentrated nectar, which was why the smell was so intense.

None of us touched a drop, but I know it wasn't just the wedding or the dancing making us feel giddy!

In fact, the fumes were so powerful in that corner between the two nectar makers that I got a bit dizzy and stepped on Leonard's toes!

He jumped back in shock but his concern was all for me as he asked if I was alright.

I assured him that the only thing damaged was my pride, as he lovingly held my hands helping me regain my balance.

With a flirty smile he said, "I think that's enough dancing for tonight anyway Mrs. Swanson, care to join your new husband in our room?"

My own eyes darkened as I saw the look in his and my voice trembled just a bit as I replied, "It's something I've been looking forward to all day Mr. Swanson."

On the way to our room, Leonard gave in to an impulse and started tickling me.

Tickles soon turned to caresses and when I glanced at the igloo, we both had the same thought.

But we weren't the only ones swayed by the wedding, the romance, and the nectar fumes in the air.

Another couple had taken advantage of the privacy of the igloo.

When we heard whispers and rustling from inside, Leonard and I quickly stepped away.

But not quickly enough as my parting look at the igloo showed me this romantic sight!

And as Leonard and I scrambled for the side porch door, we heard a girlish laugh ring out on the cold night air.

The cold wasn't bothering Danica one little bit, apparently my brother knows just how to keep a girl warm in an igloo!

I clapped my hand over my mouth to keep from intruding on such a private moment, but I knew we'd probably be hearing more wedding bells soon enough.

Once we got inside it was clear why mom and dad hadn't noticed the romantic activity in the igloo.

They were both way too busy mopping up the mess in the living room!

As I came down the hall, I asked, "What happened? Why is water all over the floor?" which is when I noticed the sprinkler in front of the couch.

Neither of them answered for a moment, then mom replied, "Your father has been upgrading the sprinklers with the auto water feature. He wasn't quite done with this one, so he left it here in the living room. Apparently someone thought it would be funny to turn it on!"

"In the house!?!" Leonard asked, his confusion clearly evident.

That's when a voice behind us confessed and said, "Not on purpose, really. Well, I did turn it on but just to see if it they do the same thing in the house as they do in the nectary. Since dad was working on it, I didn't even think it would turn on, but," here Ben stopped to survey the watery mess. "I guess I left it on. I'm really sorry. Mom, dad, I'll clean up the rest so you guys can get some sleep."

Ward was behind Ben and he quickly added, "I'll help. It definitely looks like a job big enough for both of us to work on. But let's change out of our suits first."

So the rest of us headed off to our rooms, while Ben and Ward worked on mopping the floor.

I took one last look at them and realized my baby brothers were really growing up fast, first Ben owning up to his mistake and then Ward offering to help him clean up.

What Ward filled me in on later, as they contemplated the last puddle, was him asking Ben, "Was it worth it bro?"

And Ben's startled look as he met our brother's smirking face, with, "What's that supposed to mean?"

Ward told me he gave Ben a knowing look as he replied, "I don't buy your 'just wanted to see if it would work' theory at all. Is Nicole as cute in her swim suit as she is in her skirt!?!"

Seeing the gleam in our little brother's eyes, Ward said he laughed and added, "I guess so. Next time you plan a sprinkler party with your girl, please invite me and Diana! But not inside the house, what a mess!"

Ben grimaced and said, "I can't believe I forgot to turn it off!"

Ward said, "I'm sure you were otherwise occupied bro!" and gave his brother an even bigger smirk.

Well, love and romance is what weddings are all about so it's no surprise that this chapter was full of that!

Me and Leonard getting married.

Mom and dad still so much in love.

Dean and Danica moving their relationship to the next level in the igloo!

Our baby brother Ben losing his head over his pretty girlfriend Nicole, and soaking the living room.

But there's more family fun and romance coming up as Snowflake Day not only brings a feast party but prom as well!

Just as I was finishing my  journal entry, I got the most amazing text from Breeze saying, "Congrats on being the newest Mr. and Mrs. Swanson! Hugs little sister. Didn't want to take away from your big moment, so I saved this news until after your wedding, Barrett and I are going to be parents! I'll tell mom tomorrow so she can actually sleep tonight. Enjoy this alone time with Leonard as you'll be having a cousin for our little one soon enough!"

I'm so excited I probably won't sleep either, but since it's my wedding night, who planned on sleeping anyway!?!

I'll tell you all about our next big family events in Chapter 65: A Snowflake Day Feast and Prom

Chapter 65: A Snowflake Day Feast and Prom
« Reply #110 on: February 16, 2020, 01:26:52 PM »

After the wedding and our late night I couldn't help but fall asleep, even with Breeze's news on my mind.

And then it was time to get ready for Carter and Mysti's Snowflake Day Feast.

I quickly picked out a formal dress for the party, and did my hair in a sophisticated side braid that brought out the purple highlights in my hair.

I love that I inherited my grandma Brina's hair, and my grandpa George's and Dad's skin tone, but I wish my cheekbones had been softened a bit by the Swanson family genes.

Let's face it, (pun unintended!) the Dean cheekbones look way more attractive on my brothers than on me and my sister, Breeze.

Others say we look striking, but fingers crossed that if either of us passes them on, it's to sons and not daughters!

Carter and Mysti had invited family and friends from all over town, some had other plans, of course, with their own families and friends, but four of us made it from our house.

We stood outside their home for a moment just taking in the beauty of it, and the way it looked in the snow, all warm and welcoming, the windows all frosted in the cold winter air.

But dad was in a hurry to get inside, saying, "This snow is getting deeper by the minute! Take my arm Rielle so we can get inside quickly. You know how much I love nature!"

Aunt Mysti greeted us in the downstairs foyer and told us to make ourselves at home.

Dad headed upstairs telling us he wanted to get in some more practice with the guitar up there.

But when my brother-in-law walked in, all eyes turned to stare at him!

Uncle Carter even saying, "I'm so glad you could join us, Barrett, it's not often we have a celebrity attend our parties, but since you're family now, it's a win-win!"

And my cousin Flynn, who's mended some fences with his family, was trying really hard NOT to look at him!

I didn't really know what to make of it all really, it was like I was impelled to look at Barrett and all the others were too.

Could he be irresistible like my Leonard?

And then a horrible thought struck me, how would I feel if other sims looked at my Leonard like we had all just focused on Barrett!?!

With that thought came another, how does Breeze stand it?

I was pretty sure I needed to have a heart-to-heart with my sister and soon!

Then I heard music and found Mom playing guitar with a young woman nearby giving her pointers.

I listened for a minute to place the tune and smiled when I realized it was a lullaby and Mom was already gearing up for some time with her first grandchild!

Then I really looked at the young woman and gasped when I realized it was my cousin Samantha, boy has she grown up!

All willowy and sophisticated and that dress, she looked gorgeous in it.

So gorgeous I just had to get a photo of her for my journal.

She looks so much like Aunt Mysti but with the Swanson red hair.

When we finally made it to the main floor, Stephanie welcomed us to the party too.

She'd cut her hair and it was now a short, cropped, cap with a flirty flower attached to a headband the same vivid saffron as her dress!

Both of my cousins have a flair for fashion that's for sure, and they pull it off so well.

With that thought in mind, I'm hoping Leonard's slob trait doesn't pass on to a daughter!

Then my thoughts returned to the moment at hand as Stephanie continued in her good hostess role by telling us help to help ourselves to the food on the table and the counters.

I knew this was a Feast party but I was a bit surprised with all the platters just the same.

With quite the variety too, basic cold sandwiches and grilled cheese on the table.

And an interesting dish called falafel on the counter.

It smelled delicious so I grabbed a plate of that and sat on a stool at the bar, while Leonard went for a dessert all covered in whipped cream!

They even had autumn salad and mac and cheese for those who were partial to more traditional foods.

It certainly was a feast!

After we ate, Uncle Carter and Leonard watched me play guitar but I caught Leonard tugging on his collar and smiled as I knew he'd rather be in his regular slobby clothes.

But for me, for my family, he endured being in his suit two days in a row!

Now that's got to be love!

And later, I realized my fears were even sillier as Leonard's focus was all on me!

He even said, "Do you realize this is our first date as husband and wife? I really like how that makes me feel! You're all mine now Rielle!"

As he blew me a kiss, I sighed, and it was only Aunt Mysti's soft chuckle that made us realize we weren't alone.

She'd either been so quiet at her computer or Leonard and I were still so besotted as newlyweds we just didn't notice her.

Probably a combination of both.

But Aunt Mysti excused herself and went to track down dad.

Something about keeping him distracted before he found that guitar.

And I would never have guessed dad was such a ham if Aunt Mysti  hadn't sent me this photo later!

My journal's the perfect place to keep this one to show to my own children.

But I'm sure you've noticed that three of our family members were missing, namely my brothers.

Well, it turned out Dean was invited to Danica's for a family Snowflake Day celebration and since she spent Snowflake Day Eve at our wedding, it seemed only fair he spend time with her family.

Ward and Ben had their own big event to attend, prom!

No one's quite sure how prom ended up being scheduled on Snowflake Day, but we all have to live with the vagaries of the school districts.

They even got permission to invite both of their prom dates over early with no parental supervision!

I'm a bit irked at that as I know for a fact dad would never have allowed mine or Breeze's boyfriend to come over without him or mom home.

Then I realize we did do that and without their permission, when Breeze had that big party.

So…not bringing that up!

Anyway, where was I, oh, prom, well, before prom actually.

Ward and Diana practiced some dance moves and by the looks on both their faces, Leonard and I aren't the only ones besotted with each other.

Ben and Nicole practiced, but not dancing!

I'm sure this photo wasn't authorized by either one of them, but I'm not passing a romantic photo up.

One that's good for some sisterly blackmail down the road!

Then they all got ready for prom and the boys took turns getting the photos I requested.

Ward took one of Ben and Nicole in the hall, looking so sophisticated in their matching black and white formals.

Though I would have been happier without the dirty clothes in my photo, I guess Leonard's slob trait is already being picked up on!

Then Ben got one of Ward looking so proud with Diana by his side,.

Though she looks a bit preoccupied, Diana looks so pretty, if a bit chilly in her gown.

Maybe she's worried about the cold and snow?

I thought the boys would have sat next to their dates in the limo, but instead they sat side by side with the girls across from them.

Since she's not in the photo, I'm guessing Nicole took this one, and she got the best shot of my brothers looking nervous!

Though I don't know why, they both dance well, and Ben seems to be quite adept at kissing if that other photo was any indication!

Okay, I'll stop with the big sister/little brothers teasing, but only to get on with the details of their prom.

I was hoping for more photos of students going in, but apparently it was so cold that no one really wanted to hang around outside.

Though Ben did get this shot of Nicole heading inside.

I have to admit she does look a bit chilled, but that could be due to the fact that her feet are buried to the ankles in snow or the fact that she has aqua skin.

Again, probably both of those contribute.

Then Ben did me proud by capturing great after prom photos.

Ward, emerging in triumph, as not only did he get voted Prom King, but Diana told him she broke it off completely with Rhoen and asked him to go steady!

They'd spent the whole evening together, dancing, drinking punch, and sneaking kisses.

No wonder Diana was nervous in that earlier picture, she had a lot more on her mind that the weather!

I've been told that the caption for this photo is Ward yelling, "Best. Prom. Ever!"

It certainly fits.

Then Nicole looking ever so mysterious with a look in her eyes I can only describe as sultry!

I wonder if she could teach me that?

I'd love to be able to look at Leonard like that after some of the flirty looks he's given me!

But maybe it's something to do with those piercing vampire eyes?

If that's the case, no luck for me there! But a girl can dream.

Oh, here's one of our cousin Justine, Carter and Mysti's youngest daughter!

It seems like just yesterday she was a baby and look at her now.

So cute, just like her mother, though I've heard her disposition is more like her older brother Flynn's than Aunt Mysti's.

And I love that she inherited grandpa Jerad's blonde hair!

And here's Justine's twin brother, Jacob.

He looks a lot like his older brother Flynn.

Uncle Carter and Aunt Mysti sure have a nice looking family.

Both of their sons being tall, dark, and handsome, while their three daughters cover the whole spectrum of blonde, brunette, and red head!

And here's Diana, looking even more mysterious than Nicole with her bewitching vampire eyes and her sparkly pink fairy wings.

She doesn't look nearly as excited about asking Ward to be her boyfriend but maybe she's just not the type to wear her feelings on her sleeve, like he is?

I hope things work out between the two of them as I know Ward's heart will be broken if it doesn't.

I'd love to have a heart-to-heart with her, to make sure she gets that, but I'm sure Ward wouldn't appreciate his older sister interfering in his life, especially his love life!

Our cousin Nicola was at prom too, her last, as she'll have her YA birthday soon.

But she was a smart one and had a warm winter outfit to change into after prom.

I still can't get over how much she looks like her mother, my dear Aunt Rayne.

Speaking of Aunt Rayne, on our way home from the Snowflake Day Feast, we popped in to say Merry Snowflake Day, since they couldn't make it to the party.

And happy birthday to our little cousin who just became a toddler.

She's such a cutie, but a bit shy with all of us crowding around her.

And she has bright blonde hair, not like Aunt Rayne's or grandpa Jerad's at all!

Maybe next time we visit, she won't be so shy and she'll let us get a good photo of her for my journal.

Well, it's late and after the wedding last night, and the Feast party today, I'm ready to hit the sack.

The fact that my sweet Leonard will be joining me is just a huge bonus as I can't wait to fall asleep in his arms!

So much as happened in the last few days and there are even more big changes ahead.

I promise to write it all down, well, most of it, some things are private!

But Spring is just around the corner, since we have such a brief winter season, and we all know what that means.

More romance, just the way I like it, and at least one birthday.

And an actual birth day, as Breeze and Barrett's baby is due any minute now!

More details and photos in Chapter 66: Spring is in the Air
Coming soon.

Chapter 66: Spring is in the Air
« Reply #111 on: February 20, 2020, 09:42:27 AM »

This weekend was certainly filled with parties.

First our wedding, then a Snowflake Day Feast and prom, and now Ward's slumber party!

Mom was a little reluctant to agree but with Monday being Love day and a day off from school and Ward's young adult birthday fast approaching, she gave in.

To make it a bit easier on mom, Ward decided the nectary basement was the best place for the party.

Though dad had made him promise that none of them would touch any nectar.

I saw Ward's face fall just a bit but then I had a whole new worry when I saw this first thing.

Ward and Nicole slow dancing! Umm, excuse me?!

But then I breathed a sigh of relief when I heard Nicole say, "So even after all that practice you kept stepping on her toes? No wonder she had such a pained look on her face at prom!"

"The problem seems to be that I can't lead! When Diana leads, I do fine, but when I try to…crunched toes! I felt so bad that I'm determined to get this right. Thanks for helping me Nicole."

Nicole laughed when she added, "I'm just glad we're bare foot, my toes will be safer that way!"

I had to smile at that, and then I noticed that with Nicole's joke, she'd put Ward at ease and he was leading with no problems at all.

Smart girl!

Then other teens joined them but there seemed to be a bit of jealousy, or a maybe it was fear on the faces of a few of them, when Diana started playing with fairy dust.

With fairies able to play some pretty nasty tricks and vampires having the diet they do, I can see why the other teens are a bit concerned with Diana being a hybrid of both of those supernatural life states.

Ward saw the looks and felt the tension, so he told a joke about one of their teachers, and helped smooth it over a bit.

But it was getting late, so they called it a night and everyone bedded down in sleeping bags.

I think that Ward should have mentioned that sleeping in the garden in the middle of the plants wasn't an option, but you'd have thought the teens would have been old enough to figure that one out!

Maybe they should have cleared the tables and chairs out to make more room?

But it didn't seem to bother them as kids can pretty much crash anywhere.

And it didn't take long before the basement lights went out and the kids were quiet.

The only sounds were the light snores and breathing of all the sleeping teens.

Once all the teens were asleep, Leonard wanted to go to The Grind to start making some friends for his LTW.

When he saw my reluctance he assured me he was only focusing on platonic relationships, and that even if anyone was interested in something more, he certainly wasn't.

I was so startled I couldn't help but blurt out, "Why would you think I was worried about that?"

He confessed that Aunt Mysti had seen the look on my face yesterday and had guessed what was wrong, that I was feeling a bit insecure with his new trait.

Then he gave me a comforting hug and asked me to go with him.

I actually thought about it for a few seconds but then realized it would seem like I didn't trust him if I tagged along.

But he made it all better when he added, "I'd love to go together, Rielle. I could work on new friendships and you could not only keep me company but get some photos for your journal."

So that's how we ended up at The Grind, a place I hadn't been to since Breeze had been accused of setting the place on fire!

Which was a big part of the reason for avoiding the place, but it was actually fun watching him introduce himself to people and see their eyes light up at the sight of him.

But seeing this attractive woman chat with him first was a little disconcerting.

But when they were joined by two elder males, one of whom had no trouble interrupting and taking over the conversation, that eased my mind.

Especially when I captured the woman's expression, definitely a 'if looks could kill' moment for sure!

It really helped that I knew Leonard was totally aware of her interest but the little smile he gave me and the twinkle in his eyes told me he was all mine.

By the time The Grind closed, Leonard had made friends with all three of them!

He felt that it was a decent  increase to his friendship count and I was proud of his accomplishment.

And to my surprise, I actually enjoyed the outing and didn't feel uncomfortable at all being there.

I even told Leonard that I'd like to come back some time so we could dance and maybe get a bite to eat.

He smiled his devastating smile and said, "Are you asking me out on a date, Mrs. Swanson?"

I didn't bother replying and just kissed him!

When we finally parted, Leonard's eyes had darkened and he said, "A date with my wife would be perfect!"

We got home so late, or early rather, that it wasn't long before all the teens were waking up and heading home.

Ward thanked everyone for coming, and made plans with Diana for a group outing to the Spring Festival later that day.

When Ward showed me this photo I couldn't help but shake my head!

Our cousin Jacob was fixated on Diana's younger sister, Kellee Aragon, all evening.

And that morning his attention was still riveted on her, well, on her….attributes, anyway!

He's always been friendly, but I wish I'd had the chance to tell him he needs to keep his eyes focused elsewhere when he's chatting with girls!

It can be flattering to have someone notice your looks, but to openly stare is inappropriate or even offensive.

When I asked Ward if she'd slapped Jacob, which I wouldn't have thought was out of line, he looked at me shocked and said, "No! In fact, she asked him to be her boyfriend before they left for home that morning! I guess she was flattered when he said her top complimented her wings perfectly."

Okay, we'll give Jacob the benefit of the doubt on that one and I'll stop reading into innocent teen encounters.

Though I did ask Ward for the photo and to delete any copies, just in case!

After the teens had breakfast and our guests headed home, I got in some race training with Sunshine.

She's so skilled now that she flies between the poles and I've increased my riding skill as well.

I'd slowed her down after a particularly fast run through the course, to let her cool down a bit, and saw most of my family was taking advantage of the nice day to work in the garden.

Mom , Ward, and Ben were harvesting, while Leonard was cleaning up the beds and getting rid of old barren plants.

I was surprised to see dad out there too, but then realized he was getting ready to upgrade another sprinkler.

After the living room got soaked, mom had put her foot down and said if he wanted the rest of the sprinklers upgraded, it would have to be done outside!

But once we were all finished with those tasks, it was time to celebrate another birthday.

Dad's elder one!

He stood before his cake, made his wish and blew out his candles.

From the looks on the guys' faces, everyone's a bit nervous about dad becoming an elder.

But dad seemed okay with it so everyone got into the party spirit!

Right before he aged up though, he did shoot a nervous look at mom and ask, "Still gonna love me when I'm flabby and gray!?!"

Mom, still looking young and fit, excitedly said, "Nothing to worry about on that score Nolan, my love for you will never change! Happy birthday, darling!"

And the next thing we knew, Dad was an elder.

But he didn't have to worry about gray hair because his was gone!

He'd lost his athletic build too, but certainly couldn't be called flabby.

With the smile he sported as he checked himself out, I guess he was happy enough with the transformation, but I knew the rest of us were going to have to get used to his new look.

Then all my brothers headed to the Spring Festival to spend time with their girlfriends.

Ben and Nicole were as loving as always, greeting each other with a romantic hug.

These two certainly don't need any help in the romance department.

Put the two of them together and they instantly follow up with flirting, hugs, and kisses.

Ben's even said the "L" word to Nicole and she's said it back!

When Dean met up with Danica, he swept her into his arms for a passionate kiss, right there in the park!

Then he confessed that just being steadies wasn't enough, and as soon as he's out of our full house, he'll be asking her a very important question!

It's easy to guess what that will be!

Ward, not to be outdone by either of his brothers, presented Diana with flowers, romantic red, so there's no doubt about his feelings.

Then he took a chance and tried out the Love Tester with her!

When it lit up like a shooting star in the night sky, the two of them felt even better about their relationship.

And they saw our cousin Samantha at the festival.

A very pregnant Samantha!

So Uncle Carter and Aunt Mysti will be grandparents soon as well.

Speaking of grandparents, mom and dad finally got the call they were waiting for and rushed over to Breeze and Barrett's house.

Breeze and Barrett have a son, Bruce!

The first of many mom hopes, as she lovingly holds her first grandchild.

Dad was thrilled about the baby too, but couldn't help wincing when he stepped on the sharp corner of the xylophone.

I know that as soon as mom gave him a chance to hold Bruce, his thoughts will totally focus on his new grandson!

But when everyone was back at the house, we were met with an awful sight.

Kobe crouching in fear on the front porch with Grim brandishing his scythe!

Even the paparazzi who's a werewolf was clenching his hands in fright.

Then to our surprise and relief, instead of picking up Kobe, Grim picked up the stray yellow tiger cat!

We were all sad at witnessing the poor things last moments, but at least he didn't pass on alone.

We know her time is getting close, but it will be hard to lose our dear Kobe!

With Snowflake Day and prom, followed by a slumber party and a day at the Spring Festival, we've had quite the festive weekend, full of fun and romance.

And with the birth of Bruce, Breeze and Barrett's son, the first child of generation three has arrived!

But knowing how Dean feels about Danica, I'm sure it won't be long before he moves out and they announce their engagement.

We've got some birthdays coming up as well, Ward's young adult birthday and Mom's elder one!

I'll be sure and take lots of photos for my next entry, Chapter 67: Birthdays and Moving Out

Chapter 67: Birthdays and Moving Out
« Reply #112 on: February 22, 2020, 03:50:26 PM »

Ward's up first for our two party birthday event.

I'm really excited not only for Ward but because I have a feeling he won't be hanging around long.

Which means Leonard and I could get started on our own family!

But first things first, and that's Ward becoming a young adult.

The candles are lit and we're all cheering him on.

And though Ward ages up in oddly mismatched clothes, reminiscent of Grandpa Jerad's thrift store finds, he's very handsome!

He's got the same Swanson red hair as Mom, Breeze and Dean, and the sweetest smile.

He picked Athletic for his YA trait.

Then it's mom's turn and we all fill the room with our clapping and birthday wishes.

Mom smiles at dad and says, "Ready for me to join you in elderhood Nolan? I'm sure I'll end up with more love handles than you did, but I'm hoping  for gray hair as any hair would be better than me being bald!"

Dad just smiles and says, "I'd love you even if you were bald Summer! Go ahead and blow out your candles."

Mom blows all the candles out in one mighty breath but when the sparkles start forming, she looks quite shocked.

Dean's face reflects his concern as well, though Leonard, standing behind mom is cheering with enthusiasm.

Mom gets her wish, keeping her adult hairstyle, though it's now a soft gray and she has a bright pink hairband.

I'm not sure if she'll keep it that way or add some red highlights in like Grandma did, but I think it will be pretty whatever she decides.

Her clothes aren't the worst ones we've ever seen but, like Ward's, they're not appropriate for the warmer Spring weather.

Mom, dad, Leonard, and I took our cake down to the basement and chatted.

I think mom had planned on the boys joining her but they passed on cake and focused on other things.

It didn't faze her though and with a big smile she said, "I guess my sons don't want to ruin their figures with cake. Since I'm an elder now, I'm not letting that stop me, I going to eat this whole piece and enjoy every single bite!"

Leonard and I didn't comment as our mouths were already full of cake, but dad, who was pulling his chair closer to the table said, "You do that Summer! It's your birthday, you deserve to indulge. After this piece, maybe I'll find a nectar that pairs well with cake and we'll have our own little party later!"

Mom giggled and Leonard and I just focused on eating our cake.

Ward changed his hairstyle and chose a lighter outfit for spring.

He looks so much like Grandpa Jerad but with Grandma Brooke's red hair, a nice combination of the two of them, but with very little of the Dean look about him.

Frankly, I would have traded my prominent Dean cheekbones for his in a heartbeat, and I know Breeze would have to, they look great on males, but make us look 'striking' rather than 'pretty.'

And in his athletic gear you can see that, though he may be huskier than Dean and Ben, he definitely has some muscles!

He's done a great job of keeping fit even before he got his new trait!

Now that I think about that, that's definitely got to come from Dad and the Dean side of the family.

Which probably means that's where my natural grace and stamina come from when it comes to riding and racing.

If that's the case, than I can live with the cheekbones! (Like I have a choice!)

With his wardrobe choices made, Ward does a few chores around the farm.

He checks on the garden, and forks some hay for Sunshine.

All the time mulling over his plans for the future.

While, across town, Dean was working on big plans of his own.

He'd invited Danica out on a date at The Grind!

First they danced, enjoying the energy of the crowd and the great music.

Then Dean took Danica's hands in his own and told her how much he loved her.

She confessed that she felt the same about him.

Then he told her that he'd seen some great small homes for sale in the local newspaper, if she was ready to commit to their relationship and live together.

Danica told him she was definitely ready!

Her mom  had unexpectedly married again and had a baby, only to lose her new husband a short time later, and remarry again!

"I love my mom and baby brother, and my new step-father is fine. But I think it's time for a place of my own now, well, a place to share with you!"

Dean was thrilled and said, "I found a nice 3 bedroom home that's a great deal and it'll be big enough for starting our own family. I can put an offer in for it when I get home!"

Danica nodded with enthusiasm and they sealed their new commitment to each other with a kiss!

Not long after they'd started dancing together, Dean spotted his Aunt Autumn on the dance floor.

She was dancing but with small gentle movements so as not to disturb her passenger, child number three for her and Jamey!

When the song ended, Danica wanted a drink to help her cool down, so Dean accompanied her to the bar.

Autumn was already there, trying to decide on a drink or a meal.

Dean chatted with her for a bit, and then, gesturing to her baby bump asked, "Can I talk to the little one?"

With a big smile, Autumn nodded, rested her hands on her hips and arched her belly.

Her smile grew as Dean babbled away to the nooboo!

Autumn didn't say anything, but she couldn't help but thinking what a great dad Dean was going to be.

Nearby at the bar waiting for her drink, Danica smiled as she was thinking the same thing!

Dean excitedly put his offer in on the new house and then tossed and turned all night wondering if his offer would be accepted.

He hurriedly showered and dressed in the morning, surprised he'd finally fallen asleep, and checked his messages.

The owners had accepted his offer!

Dean felt a rush of happiness that he and Danica would be living in it together, their first home.

But then as he stood up to go break the good news to his family, his glance held just a touch of sadness at leaving his family home, the only one he'd ever known.

A home filled with fun and laughter, along with the squabbles he and his siblings had over the years, and yes, a few tears at the loss of their grandma Brooke.

He shook off the sad memories, and vowed to focus on the happy ones, and to make even more with Danica in their new home.

The next morning, Ward eagerly greeted a young adult Diana, and even though she was using a sunbrella, he suggested heading down to the basement to get her out of the bright sun.

"You're so thoughtful Ward, I hate missing out on the this lovely warm weather, but I probably should get out of the sun."

They headed down to the basement and danced to a few songs on the radio.

Then Ward focused totally on Diana, giving her a backrub.

And getting even more romantic with hugs and kisses!

But somehow he couldn't ask Diana to marry him!

"I just don't understand, with Dean moving out, there's a spot open for you in the house."

Then looking at Diana with concern he said, "Unless it's because you don't want us to be together?"

Diana smiled and assured him that was not the case, she couldn't even imagine a future where they weren't together.

But then she asked, "Are you sure there's actually a space available in your house? Maybe Rielle and Leonard started on their own family after Dean left?"

Ward responds with, "I think they would have mentioned it, but then again, I didn't mention my plans to ask you to marry me either! I guess we'll find out soon enough."

Later that evening, I decide it's time to enter Sunshine in another race, so we head over to one of the Equestrian Centers and sign up for our first International race!

We don't win, but we place third, not bad for our first attempt.

And it does add to my race winnings.

But oddly enough, my thoughts are focused on my marriage instead of the race.

I get home exhausted after the race and long ride home, so I shower and go straight to bed.

Only to be woken up in the early morning hours with an odd feeling.

A feeling that resolves both Ward's being unable to propose to Diana and why I was so preoccupied after the race this evening.

Leonard and I are expecting our first child!

When I excitedly shared my news with the family the next morning, Ward tells us that Diana had guessed why he couldn't propose to her.

I told him that if we'd had known what his plans were, we would have put off trying for a baby, and that we were actually surprised it had happened so soon.

But Ward smiled and said it wasn't a problem, he'd just revise his own plans a bit.

First, he sat down at the computer and accept a job in Law Enforcement, he was starting at the bottom, but with hard work and a bit of luck, he hoped to become an International Super Spy!

Just thinking of all the swanky parties made him smile, especially with his beautiful Diana by his side.

Then he kissed mom and me goodbye, congratulated me on my coming baby, shook hands with dad, Ben, and Leonard, and left the family farm.

He told us he'd be staying with Diana in her family home until they got a place of their own.

I know mom was feeling a bit sad, losing two of her son's so quickly, but dad made her smile again when he said, "We're not losing sons, but gaining more daughters, Summer! And with all of our kids pairing up and in homes of their own, that gives us a shot at more grandchildren!"

With that thought fresh in their minds, they eagerly chat about five grandchildren, one from each of their children and respective partners.

Though with Ben still being a teen for a few more days, they know that will spread out the grandbabies just a bit longer.

And I know Leonard and I will have at least three, because it wouldn't be a farm family without several children, so getting the five mom and dad want, shouldn't be a problem at all!

Ward aged up to young adult, and Mom became and elder, just in time to relish the idea of adding to her grandchildren!

Both Dean and Ward have moved out of the family home and in with their respective girlfriends, Danica Gallo, and Diana Aragon, and both couples immediately got engaged, no surprise there.

But what was surprising was baby news from within our extended families, Breeze told us she was expecting baby number two, cousin Flynn and his girlfriend, our cousin on dad's side, Emilie Dean, announced their coming nooboo, and his sister Stephanie and her boyfriend are expecting too!

With my sister Breeze having a son, Bruce, and my cousin Samantha having a son, Gregory, so far we've only added boys to our family, so I'm hoping for a girl.

Leonard thinks this one is going to be a boy, but if it isn't I know he'll be happy just the same.

Besides, that would give us incentive to try for a boy next time!

I can't wait to share all the baby news with you in Chapter 68: Baby Incoming, Preparing with Vigilance

Chapter 68: Baby Incoming, Preparing with Vigilance
« Reply #113 on: February 25, 2020, 01:00:38 PM »
After Ward said goodbye and headed over to Diana's home, Mom, happier than ever with the thought of more grandchildren, worked in the garden.

Leonard had been doing a big share of tending the gardens, as he had two big goals, Mastering Gardening and becoming a Level 10 Gardener.

This worked out well for both Mom and Dad, as then Mom could focus on harvesting.

And selling our produce at the consignment store.

She delivers huge batches of Red Berry Beans, perfect quality, of course, along with some of our other produce, and we've typically been making over $35,000 simoleans after each delivery sells!

Red Berry Beans are truly a money-making cash crop!

Dad works in the nectary garden some, but with all of Leonard's help, he focuses more on making nectar.

He's not only squished over forty batches of fruit, but he's made over 200 bottles of nectar!

I helped him total up the better bottles we have stored in the nectar racks, bottles ranging in price from $200 to close to $1000 simoleans each, and we have over $40,000 worth of nectar now!

Dad's hope is that we keep all his nectar and that down the line, a nectar-loving family member will reap the benefits of all his hard work.

While mom and dad were busy with those things, Leonard was totally focused on me.

He swept me into his arms and kissed me until I was breathless, telling me he loved me over and over again!

Then he welcomed our child, in all the standard ways.

Listening to the baby, but only hearing the sounds of my tummy rumble as I hadn't had breakfast yet.

Patting my tummy, ever so gently, and his eyes going all soft when he felt the baby move for the first time.

Then chattering away about all things baby, focusing mostly on teddy bears.

And telling him all about playing peek-a-boo when he joins our family!

I laughed and told him not to forget all those dirty diapers and bottles we would need.

Leonard just smiled and said, "Now that's where being forgetful comes in real handy! And with your mom and dad around if I wait just a few minutes, I'm sure they'll beat me to the less than fun aspects, especially the dirty diapers!"

I raised my eyebrows at that and said, "Well, you've certainly got it all figured out haven't you!?! But what if we have twins? We do have two spaces in the house!"

I'd been kidding when I mentioned twins to Leonard, but apparently he was so freaked out by that thought that he suggested we go to the library and read up on parenting.

I wasn't all that worried as there were still four adults in our house plus Ben.

I mean if five of us couldn't handle a baby or even two, well, that didn't say much about our parenting skills did it!?!

So I said, "Don't worry Leonard, my parents, as well as my grandparents raised five children! I think we can handle it!"

Leonard looked at me with raised eyebrows and said, "But you don't have twins in your family Rielle, I grew up with Grace and Julia as babies and it was a madhouse! And we only had cats and kittens with my sisters, not two cats, a horse, two gardens, and a nectary to keep running!"

As I took in Leonard's words I felt queasy, and it didn't have anything to do with my pregnancy.

Well, not in that the hormones were making me sick way, at least.

Rather a don't-joke-about-twins-because-it-could-happen kind of queasiness!

So I said, "Right, the library, we better find out everything there is to know about pregnancy and babies!"

He gave me a thumbs up, grabbed my hand, and we headed into town.

I headed inside straight away, but Leonard stopped to chat with a tourist outside the library.

Imagine that, Aggie's Corner being big enough to actually draw tourists in!

Apparently the man was asking if there was any place in town where his kids could play video games.

Leonard told him that the only place he was aware of was the night club in town, The Grind, but that it didn't open until later in the day.

That made me wonder if we shouldn't have a gaming place set up in town for the younger crowd.

Definitely something to think about and add to the list of possibilities for the community park expansion across the road from the farm.

But that wasn't part of our mission today and as soon as we both found appropriate parenting books, we settled on a bench on the upstairs balcony.

It was such a beautiful day with the sun shining and a warm breeze fluttering my hair now and again.

Sitting there, reading parenting books together, and feeling our baby's gently kicks was a day I'll never forget.

Especially since Leonard got all flirty and blew me a kiss after we finished reading.

I thought after reading all that labor and delivery information, he'd be in even more of a panic.

But he said his book focused more on preparing the baby's room, and what to expect the first few months, and he actually felt more confident knowing what to expect.

Then he gave me a wonderful back rub saying that he'd also read the mom-to-be could feel achy and cramped carrying a baby and frequent back rubs or massages would make her fell better.

I was surprised how much better!

Leonard's strong fingers massaging my shoulders had me thinking some very non-library thoughts!

He must have been thinking the same thing because he said he hated for our day together to end and suggested a movie before we headed home.

I said I was actually thinking of someplace a little more private but he gave me one of his looks and said that the back row of the darkened theater was pretty private and just across the street!

I couldn't resist when he added a wink, and smiled that smile of his that made my knees weak.

So a few minutes later we found ourselves in front of the theater.

It was such a nice night I thought maybe we could watch the stars after the movie, if Leonard thought he could help me stand back up!

Then I saw Aunt Mysti, she'd finally gotten back from her visit with her friend in Hidden Springs and she and Uncle Carter were enjoying a date night after being apart for so long.

I thought that was so sweet, and would have liked to chat with her longer but the movie was starting soon, so we all hurried inside.

After the movie, which was a great sci-fi flick, we hung around outside chatting for awhile.

I spotted my cousin Janel doing homework on the sidewalk and was a little concerned about her being out there after dark on her own.

Janel just laughed and said she'd be a teen soon, and then showed me her latest school pictures.

Her official one, looking all sweet.

And then her werewolf one that her dad insisted on!

She said he'd told her that it would come in handy in case anyone got ideas about trying anything with his daughter.

Janel seemed a bit puzzled when she repeated his words and asked if I knew what he meant!

I nodded and said, "He's just keeping you safe from all those big bad wolves out there! Seeing this, they'll know you're not someone to mess with!"

Janel thought about that and said, "The kids at school always want me on their teams because I can run so fast and hear what the other team's planning! Nobody picks me last or messes with me."

"That's good! And I'm sure your father will be happy to know that, especially when you're older!"

I could see she was still puzzled but she just shrugged and said, "I guess so, grownups are weird!" and went back to doing her homework.

Then I ran into Breeze and we both laughed when we saw each other!

She patted my tummy and leaned in close to see if she could hear anything.

I asked when she was due and was surprised to find out her due date was after mine, especially since she was twice as big as I was!

She shook her head and said, "You don't have to say it, I'm aware I'm as big as an elephant! The doctor keeps telling me it's mom's genes coming to the fore, especially since I can't exercise like I used to. But he's confident that once the baby's born, I'll be able to lose the weight again."

"You don't look that huge, you're probably just carrying differently than I am."

Breeze smiled and said, "Thanks little sister. I could always count on you to make me feel better!"

"That's what sisters are for Breeze! Let's get together soon and catch up.  I miss our sister time."

"I'll try Rielle. With both me and Barrett having full time careers it's harder to find time for stuff like that."

"We'll have to make time, Breeze. When they're a little older it would be great if our little ones could play together. I want them to be friends. Once they're both toddlers, we'll plan a play date at the park. For Grandma Brooke!"

"You don't play fair Rielle! How can I say, 'no', when you put it that way! Not that I would say, 'no', I love the idea! And if I play a little guitar while the kids are playing, I can consider it practice time!"

"Great! It's a date! If you can, bring Barrett along and I'll have Leonard join us too. Oh. I just had the greatest idea! A family picnic in the park! You, me, mom and dad, our brothers, our kids, all of us! I'll start planning it now while I have the time and can't ride or race. See you soon Breeze!"

Over the next few days, Leonard made sure I ate healthy meals and snacks, and he even allowed me to do mild exercises, as long as someone was around to keep an eye on me and make sure I didn't overdo it!

Dad was happy to have the company down in the nectary which allowed him to squish fruit and make more nectar while he was watching over me.

Leonard approved of that, as with dad being so health conscious and athletic himself, he was aware of the health benefits of keeping fit while expecting and also could time me so I kept my workout mild.

Leonard insisted I get plenty of sleep or at least relax in a rocker when I was feeling uncomfortable.

I didn't protest too much as I was feeling more than a little tired and achy as my pregnancy progressed.

But even when I was relaxing in a rocker, he insisted I have someone with me, and Dad was happy to oblige.

Sometimes in the afternoons Ben joined us, doing his homework nearby while dad worked on nectar and I rocked my aches and pains and tiredness away.

Leonard made sure I was comfortable each morning before heading outside to take care of Sunshine for me, insisting that it was too strenuous for me to be currying her, cleaning her hooves, or even forking out hay.

Since I couldn't be with her, Sunshine eagerly accepted all of Leonard's attention, especially when it included getting apples fresh from the garden!

With Sunshine's care added to his gardening chores, he was working from sunrise to well after sunset!

He'd already cleared the barren plants and weeds out of all our beds, and had planted quite a few more Red Berry Beans, but our vegetable garden needed replanting still, so he focused on that.

Just one or two seeds or pieces of fruit or vegetables, watermelon, tomatoes, assorted mushroom varieties, and the kitchen garden was all set.

Then he worked on the orchards, getting more seedlings started there.

We're limiting it to two to four trees of each variety, focusing on pomegranates, pomelos, and plums for dad's nectar, but we like having a few banana, lime, and of course apple trees, for our own use.

Mom's still the only one who can plant cheese and eggs, but dad recently got an op that should make those planting options available to him too.

I told Leonard he didn't need to work so hard, but he reminded me that Sunshine couldn't be ignored and he needed to get the beds and orchards replanted before our baby arrived, as afterward we'd be busy taking care of him, or her!

He explained that once the new plantings were established, sunshine and watering, which was done automatically now as dad had gotten all of our sprinklers upgraded, would do the rest of the work until it was time to harvest again, leaving us to focus on our child!

I couldn't fault his reasoning and it thrilled me that he was planning everything out so well.

In fact, it really surprised me as I never expected him to be able to focus so well, but when he puts his mind to something, like gardening or making friends, he's amazing!

To prove just how amazing, after gardening one evening, it was still early enough for him to make some phone calls to some of his new acquaintances and after chatting with each one, he'd raised his friend count from 7 to 10!

He shrugged it off as not a big deal, but I could see he was proud of completing that wish as it brought him to the half-way point of his LTW.

So we went to bed most nights basking in all we'd accomplished recently.

My dreams were focused on our baby, of course, while Leonard's dreams were all about me!

He's just so sweet.

Our family is getting ready to add several babies to it very soon, with me, my cousin's Stephanie and Emilie, all expecting our first babies, and my sister Breeze on baby number two!

Mom and dad are just bursting with pride and joy at the very thought of more grandchildren.

And both Ward and Dean made mom's day by calling her and telling her they were both married now!

I'm so excited I can barely wait to see what baby news I get to add to my journal.

Chapter 69: Raining Nooboos
« Reply #114 on: February 29, 2020, 10:32:36 AM »
Then early one morning I woke up with pains and in moments I knew this was it, baby time!

My cries woke up Leonard and mom and both panicked.

I guess because they'd been woken up in the middle of the night!

Then mom and Leonard calmed down and went to make sure everything was set in the nursery.

Of course, after they left, dad showed up and he freaked out too.

Even with everyone being less than helpful, I managed to get through it.

And soon Leonard and I were the proud parents of a daughter, Kindle Swanson!

Just one sweet little baby girl, who's friendly and loves the outdoors.

She has dad's and my skin tone, but we won't know her hair color until her toddler birthday.

I can wait as I know those will be busy times, and if things go as planned, we could even be thinking of a baby brother or sister to join her by that time!

Mom had settled in a rocker in the nursery eagerly awaiting news of her second grandchild.

Mom's face lit up with a soft smile when Leonard announced it was a girl!

Dad was rocking in the opposite corner but he was looking a bit uncomfortable.

I wasn't sure why until I was putting Kindle in her crib.

That's when I realized mom and dad weren't the only ones here welcoming our new daughter.

Grandpa Jerad was here too and he had the biggest smile on his face!

I knew it was because he was proud of all we'd done on the farm but especially for little Kindle.

And why wouldn't he be?

She was the first of generation three, here on the farm!

I didn't want to have to choose between mom or dad on who got to hold Kindle first, that's why I put her in her crib.

That way it wouldn't be my choice but whoever got to her first!

But it wasn't either of them actually, as mom and dad waited for Leonard to hug me and tell me he loved me, how proud he was of me, and how beautiful our daughter was, after all she looked just like me!

Then Leonard turned to the crib and gently picked up Kindle.

As he fed her a bottle, his smile was filled with love and wonder at what our love had created.

I got the best photo I could but I'm sure it doesn't truly capture just how full his heart felt in that moment.

I know as mine felt the same way when I held her in my arms for the first time.

Then he rocked her in his arms, even more gently, smiling down as Kindle waved her tiny hands and fists in the air.

When she made those soft mewling coos, ones newborns make when all is right with their world, Leonard's eyes softened, glistening with unshed tears at becoming a father for the first time.

And I'm sure there were plenty of tears, happy ones, around the neighborhood that day, because a second girl was added when our cousins, Flynn and Emilie, had a daughter they named Star.

Mom would have loved to hold her but Flynn's relationship to the family being what it is, I'm lucky she talked him into just the one photo for my journal.

Then Breeze called, sounding tired but ecstatic as she told us that she and Barrett were now the proud parents of twins!

Little Bruce now has both a sister and a brother so that brought mom and dad's grandchildren count up to four.

Needless to say Mom and Dad rushed right over to hold them, and we got a cute group photo of Mom holding Anthony, and Dad holding Bianca!

Big brother Bruce is even plonking away on his xylophone in the background and by the look on dad's face, as well as Barrett's reaction, he needs a lot more practice!

But mom is in her element, as she now has two grandsons and two granddaughters, which gives her plenty of opportunities for cuddles.

With all the excitement and chaos the birth of a new baby brings to a household, Ben still managed to get off to school on time that morning.

His thoughts were totally focused on getting his grade up to an 'A'.

He wasn't very far off, as he had a high 'B', but that was because of days off from school and spending time with Nicole!

Over the past week, she'd spent a lot of time at our house.

And she'd even invited Ben to her home, to work on homework and meet her family.

But Ben had had a hard time concentrating on homework with their cat howling, sick at heart after losing his mate.

And he felt more than a bit uncomfortable with Nicole's parents nearby.

Not that it bothered him that they were supernaturals, with Nicole's mom a genie and her dad a being a vampire.

He actually was intrigued by both of those states, though he leaned towards the genie side and wondered what it would be like to actually be one.

It was the fact that her parents openly flirted that embarrassed him!

He knew of course that parents did flirt, along with other romantic stuff, but even thinking about it made his eyes roll, and having to watch Nicole's parents was even worse!

I remember feeling that way too, when I was teen.

It was impossible to be comfortable with the idea of parents being romantic, or worse, physical!

"Eewww, ick!, no way!" are all thoughts that were in my head at that age, and I'm sure Ben was thinking those same thoughts.

But when he finally finished his homework, he had no trouble flirting with Nicole and asking her to watch the stars!

The teenage years are really the worst for being totally self-involved!

I'm glad I'm past those now, but being a new mother, I realized that soon enough I'd be on the parent side myself, having my own self-involved teen, at least three of them!

I shake my head and have to chuckle at just how uncomfortable Leonard and I are going to make our teens with me being a hopeless romantic and him being irresistible!

But will that stop us from demonstrating our love for each other every chance we get?

Never!!!

But with Ben so focused on Nicole we were really surprised that he brought home a teenage girl we'd never met.

Until she introduced herself and said, "I did actually meet your mom once when I was a toddler.  I'm Leonard's sister. I guess that makes you my sister-in-law."

I'm sure Leonard would have recognized her but, wow, she didn't look anything close to that toddler photo I'd seen!

"Julia or Gracie?"

"It's just Grace now. My twin Julia has light brown hair."

I asked if I could get a better photo of her and she happily agreed.

Seeing Grace, look absolutely beautiful in her outerwear, I have high hopes for our little Kindle.

I know she'll be beautiful, but maybe she'll also inherit some of her aunt's style instead of her father's, who's happiest wearing torn, dirty clothes!

I find Leonard attractive no matter what he's wearing, but not everyone is lucky enough to be able to pull that off, least of all a girl!

And boy was I happy, not only having a beautiful baby daughter, but fitting back into my regular clothes and being able to spend time with Sunshine again!

I brushed her, cleaned her hooves, and hugged and patted her over and over again.

With Leonard taking over her care during my pregnancy, we'd really missed being together.

I even indulged her and not only provided an apple as a tasty treat but some carrots fresh from the garden too!

And when I saw Kobe darting around the lawn, I realized I wasn't the only one celebrating, as she'd just mastered hunting!

She's been working on it since she was old enough to practice hunting with the tin foil ball or the catnip mouse, and she's finally reached her goal.

I check her secret stash and find not only a dozen snake skins, feathers, and shiny paper wrappers, but lizards, bugs, turtles, a rodent, and 2 birds!

But since Mom and Ben are the cat lovers, I'll let them deal with all of her 'trophies'!

As the sun set, Flynn not wanting to be left out, decided to do a little hunting of his own.

But he found bigger prey than he bargained for when a raccoon wandered boldly up to him!

Since the racoon was just as big as he is, I figured he'd turn tail and run, but not our Flynn.

He stood his ground and hissed at it, then forgetting his guard duties, started goofing around with him!

Or maybe it was a her?

Well, I'm certainly not checking as wildlife can't be trusted.

Besides, my favorite animals are horses, Sunshine in particular.

With Sunshine cleaned up, fed, watered, and bedded down for the night, it was time for another birthday.

Ben had gotten his 'A' today, just in time for his young adult birthday!

Nicole couldn't make it as she had birthday plans with her own family.

Ben was super excited and joined in as mom and I cheered.

Dad looked on with anticipation, wondering what trait and LTW his youngest son would choose, while Leonard actually seemed at a loss as to why mom and I were cheering.

As focused as he is when it comes to making friends, gardening, and taking care of Kindle, I guess I have to give him  a break at other times.

But when Ben was standing before us in his young adult glory, Leonard and dad both got in the party spirit.

Seeing Ben's new look, however, I just shook my head and looked up at the ceiling wondering what on earth the clothing gurus had been thinking!

His outfit  wasn't like some of Grandpa Jerad's thrift store finds, but it certainly didn't fit into our down-on-the-farm style of dress for Aggie's Corner!

Though I had to admit with his dark good looks and chiseled cheek bones, my brother was certainly handsome.

He'd picked athletic for his new trait, though I think it was something dad was hoping for rather than something Ben actually wanted.

Then he picked Become an Astronaut for his LTW.

As that had been dad's wish before he joined our family, I really wondered if Ben was truly happy with his choices.

But there was something Ben wanted more than anything else and that was to adopt a cat of his own!

Since Leonard and I only had Kindle, instead of twins, there was still one spot left in the house.

When we told Ben to go ahead and call the pet center, his eyes lit up and he didn't hesitate.

That's how Merlin, the cat, became the newest member of our family!

The very next morning, Ben was up early and headed into town.

His destination?

The Kindle home, where our Flynn's kittens still resided, though they'd both grown up recently.

Leonard's mom, Karie, was cordial enough when she answered the door and invited him in.

But when he explained about adopting Merlin, and wanting to adopt Flynn's daughter, Bella, for Merlin's mate, Karie was less than thrilled.

Ben explained that he loved cats and with our full house hadn't actually been allowed one of his own before.

That seemed to make Karie even more adamant on not letting him adopt Bella, saying he didn't have the experience required to look after her properly.

But when Karie saw the dejected look in Ben's eyes, she made him a deal.

When he could become friends with Merlin, and was living on his own with the proper space to care for several cats, then she'd reconsider letting  him adopt Bella.

Ben agreed and thanked her, but Karie said, "Don't thank me yet, young man! It remains to be seen if you can follow through and learn proper pet care with one cat, let alone two, or more!"

Even so, when Ben got home, he carefully brushed Merlin, and played with him for hours!

He was definitely working on making his deal with Karie Kindle come true.

So now we have two new family members living on the farm, our daughter Kindle, and Merlin, Ben's very own cat!

But our cousin Stephanie is due any minute now, and Dean called to let us know that Danica was expecting too!

It really is raining nooboos here in Aggie's Corner, and it doesn't look like that forecast is going to stop any time soon.

But I'm concerned about Ben and the choices he made at his young adult birthday.

Were they really his deepest desires, or was he following the dreams that dad had in mind for him?

I think it's time to have a heart to heart with my baby brother before he commits to a life he doesn't want!

Hopefully, I'm not sticking my big sister nose in where it's not wanted.

Chapter 70: Ben Discovers His Destiny
« Reply #115 on: March 02, 2020, 03:05:08 PM »

The next day I was up early and started my day with a quick morning workout.

Afterwards, I'd planned for some training time with Sunshine, but when I heard Kindle awaken with a cry I went rushing in to check on her.

She'd already been fed and changed that morning, but when she stopped crying as soon as I patted her I guessed it was mommy time she wanted.

So I played with her, loving the sound of her little baby coos and giggles.

Then we rocked together giving us that bonding time I'd read about.

But what kept my face solemn was thoughts about how I would approach Ben about his recent choices.

I ran through a few scenarios in my head, trying to decide which one was best.

When I heard Ben up and about, I decided there was no time like the present.

But, as an added precaution in case he didn't like my prying, I brought Kindle along with me.

I mean chances were better he wouldn't yell at me if I was carrying the baby, right!?!

And I started off on a subject he'd be positive about, his new cat, Merlin.

"Merlin is such a beautiful cat Ben! You made a wonderful choice picking him out of all the ones at the shelter."

"He's something isn't he? The guy at the shelter told me he might have some Manx in him, with his coloring and stubby tail. He was surprised I wanted a full-grown cat as most people are looking for kittens. And unneutered males aren't popular either because they mark their territory. But I explained that I had a female family cat that I wanted to breed him with and he said that was great as Merlin was very affectionate and should make some really cute kittens!"

Then with Ben so excited about Merlin, I asked, "I know finally owning a cat was something you really wanted, a desire of your heart. But the other choices you made? Your YA trait and your Lifetime Wish, were they what you really wanted Ben?"

Ben looked at me a moment, then gulped and admitted, "Not exactly. I knew dad was happy with Dean being born athletic and choosing a LTW that focused on athletics, as well as starting an athletic career. And Ward's always been pretty muscular, so him choosing athletics will help him out with his law enforcement career. So I just joined the crowd, to make dad happy. He would've hated what I really wanted to do!"

"And what's that?"

When Ben hesitated, I urged, "Ben, please be honest with me and yourself! This is YOUR life, not Dad's!"

So then Ben admitted his heart's desire, "I'd love to become a Supernatural myself, a genie! Not one in a bottle, granting wishes, that's not an option I'd choose, but one that can perform practical magic, cleaning the house and making perfect magical meals, everyone's favorites!"

When I saw how much his face lit up telling me about his dreams, I gave him the best advice I could.

"You need to tell dad what you really want out of life Ben! Dad might not like Supernaturals, doubt in their existence, despite all the ones living in our town, including the fairies, genies, and werewolves we have in our own family! But Ben, just think of the man our father is, has always been. He gave up his dreams for mom and he's never regretted that decision, but he'd be horrified that you gave up your dreams for him. I would never tell him, but you know it would come between you in the years to come. Please say you'll talk to him Ben!"

I could see the conflicting emotions as they crossed Ben's face, how he didn't want to disappoint dad, but how he wanted to follow his own dreams to.

Then I saw his brow clear and he said, "You're right. I'll talk to him when he gets back from visiting Breeze and her family. That will put him in a good mood, though my news will probably ruin it!"

"Not if you have some solid plans Ben! While dad's out, do some research, check on becoming a genie, talk with Uncle Johnny, or Nicole or her family, maybe even the guy that runs the elixir shop. Find out everything you can, and then present all your information to dad."

"That's a great idea Rielle! If I go off halfcocked dad will think I'm just crazy, but if I have something concrete to tell him, a specific direction, then he may take the news a little better."

And though Ben and I had always gotten along as kids, with our age gap we'd never been particularly close, not like him, Dean, and Ward.

But having this heart to heart as young adults, we suddenly felt a shift in our relationship, not just siblings, older and younger, but real friends.

Ben didn't waste any time and he quickly called Johnny, then Nicole, asking the all important question of how to become a genie.

Johnny said the question had never come up in his family, so he wasn't much help, though he did tell Ben being one was pretty awesome, and he'd love it if Ben was able to join the genie ranks.

Nicole was pretty excited about it to, but she told him that though Vampires could turn others to join their clans, she'd never heard of anyone turning someone into a genie. And after she had a quick chat with her parents, she added that they had never heard anyone mention becoming a genie either, just being born one.

So Ben turned to his last resort, the guy at the elixir shop, where his hopes rose as the man told him that there was a genie elixir that could transform anyone into a genie.

But then the man took that statement back and said, "Oh, not IF's made real though, they can't change their supernatural state or become hybrids. I'm not sure why, maybe because IF genes are unique in their own weird way?"

Ben just laughed and said he certainly wasn't an IF doll, real or not, so it wouldn't apply to him.

But his laugh was cut short when the man added, "I'm surprised a guy like you would do that though, the genie elixir doesn't work like a lot of the other supernatural ones that just add the state to your own natural genetics, it wipes away all traces of who you were, gives you pretty generic facial features, and turns your skin a very dark blue! I've heard that if you change back into other clothes besides everyday ones, in a place called CAS, wherever that is, then it may be possible to keep your own genetics, but if you go there in everyday clothes in your new genie form, it's permanent! There's a warning label on the bottle, let me see if I have one."

After hearing the dangers of using a genie elixir, losing his family genetics, Ben wasn't all that disappointed to learn there weren't any genie elixirs for sale right now.

But he was very interested when the guy said, "You could always make one if you can discover the alchemy recipe, find the ingredients, and learn enough to be knowledgeable of the skill."

"Alchemy?" Ben asked, "What's that?"

"It's an ancient branch of philosophy that uses medieval chemistry to discover and mix elixirs that transform objects or people into other things. It's original goal was to transform base metals into gold, but I'm not sure that was ever discovered. But you could try it for yourself! The alchemy station in the corner is free for anyone to use. Just be careful, people don't usually catch on fire like with chemistry or inventing tables, but breathing in the fumes from elixirs can make you feel sick. If that happens, the bathroom's right next to it, just in case!"

Ben walked over to the alchemy station, flexed his fingers, and opened the ancient tome.

He wasn't sure he still wanted to become a genie, but learning alchemy, discovering it's secrets, called to him in a way he couldn't explain.

He'd never been exposed to anything like it before and as he read page after page of the fascinating art, he felt like he was finally on the path he'd been meant to take all along!

When he'd earned a couple of alchemy skill points, he tried his hand at mixing his first elixir.

Which started off easily enough but then just gave off a terrible stench, which like the consignment specialist had told him, started making him feel a bit queasy.

Not wanting to lose his breakfast, he decided to take a break and find out if the store held any other magical objects.

His eyes had just landed on an interesting looking metal machine, when he heard his name called, "Cousin Ben?"

And he hurried over to chat with his cousin Kirby, his Aunt Winter's middle son, who was a teen now.

"Wow, Kirby, I wouldn't have recognized you except for the dark blue wings! You've certainly grown up a lot."

"I just started high school, and Errol graduated the same day as you. Our baby brother, Chet, isn't a baby anymore either, he started grade school this week!"

"So how's everything going? You getting along okay in high school?"

"Everything's going well. High school has been a bit of an eye opener," then with a wink he added, "all our female classmates have grown up a lot too!"

Ben smirked and said, "Lots of eye candy to distract you from your homework, huh!?!"

Kirby nodded, but said excitedly, "Yeah, but the best news doesn't have anything to do with school. I can't wait to check out the gypsy wagon that rented a space at the community park and get my fortune told! Well, as soon as they get it staffed. I wanted to get a part-time job there after school, but they don't offer them, you have to be at least a young adult to work there."

Ben's eyes lit up when he took in Kirby's words, asking, "The community park, the one right across the road from our farm?"

Kirby nodded, and said, "That's the place! There are so many supernaturals in Aggie's Corner now that it was voted in unanimously when they applied for a permit. I'm surprised Rielle didn't mention it, since mom said the idea was her suggestion.  You know, with your interest in the supernatural you'd probably be a shoe in for a job there."

Ben smiles and grabs Kirby's hand in a firm handshake, saying, "And you're the best cousin ever Kirby! If I get a job there, you get your first fortune for free!"

Kirby said, "Thanks cuz! I'll definitely take you up on that offer!"

Ben might not have had genie powers, but he drove over to the community park floating on air.

When he arrived, it was easy to spot the gypsy wagon, and he joined the line of people waiting their turn to apply.

He paced a bit nervously, wondering if he'd make the cut, and suddenly realized it was what he wanted more than anything, to study alchemy, join the fortune teller career, and become a Master of Mysticism!

When he got home, he dressed in his new career outfit, which to my surprise, was what he'd aged up in!

He found dad and had a heart-to-heart chat with him right then and there.

"Rielle told me I need to follow my own dreams dad,  that we only get one life and I should do what I want. I'm sorry to disappoint you dad, but athletics and becoming an astronaut isn't my dream. After doing some research, I've found my life's calling! More than anything in the world I want to study Alchemy, and rise in the ranks of the Fortune Teller career and become a Master of Mysticism!"

Dad didn't say anything, just gave Ben a serious, searching look.

The silence between them dragged on so long I was beginning to doubt my own advice and hoped I hadn't seriously misjudged dad and told Ben to do something that would damage their relationship irrevocably!

But my judgement of Dad's character had not been wrong, and he wrapped his arms around Ben in a fatherly hug!

"Ben, Ben, you are my son, I want you to live a happy and productive life, following your own dreams, not mine from long ago. Yeah it would have been nice to have another astronaut in the family, like your Uncle Nathan, but only if it was what YOU wanted."

Ben's face was radiant as he sported the biggest smile ever, saying, "Dad, you don't know how much that means to me, having your approval."

"Not just my approval Ben, but my love and respect as well! It takes a man to admit he's chosen the wrong course and correct it before it's too late."

Then Dad said, "I'm thinking an athletic trait won't be much help reading star charts, so have you decided on a more appropriate trait to help you with your new career?"

"I was thinking charismatic would go along way towards putting my clientele more at ease and making friends with them."

Dad nodded, saying, "That sounds like a great choice for someone in a people focused career, but you're not going to be one of those charlatans just trying to make a buck and put one over on people are you?"

"Never! A Master of Mysticism always focuses on the truth and doesn't make up bogus fortunes just to scam money out of their clientele!"

"That's good to know! Who knows, maybe you'll even persuade your old man to get his fortune told one day!"

They both laughed at that and Ben said, "You don't need a fortune teller to predict what will happen in your future dad! We all know you've lived a happy life and the coming years won't be any different, you'll be kept busy and satisfied making lots of nectar and spending time with your grandchildren!"

I broke in at this point and said, "Speaking of grandchildren, it's time to celebrate Kindle's toddler birthday! Mom's got the cake on the table and I'm on my way to get Kindle now."

As soon as I blew out the candles, I made a wish for my sweet daughter, and started to gently lower her to the floor for her transformation.

Mom was tooting a party horn, and Leonard was twirling a noise maker, celebrating in true birthday style.

But I was anxious to see who Kindle would take after.

We were aware that Kindle had my skin tone, but would she inherit more of my features?

I'd definitely be okay with her having my hair color as I loved that I'd inherited it from my Grandma Brina.

But I was really hoping for the rounded cheeks from either of her grandmother's rather than my Dean cheekbones.

With the sparkles dancing around her surprised little face, surrounded by long dark hair, I feel a spurt of happiness!

Dark hair is good, and she had a double chance at it, with both Leonard and dad having it.

I pick her up for a cuddle and a closer look to see if I could tell if her hair's texture is closer to dad's or Leonard's.

And I notice she got my deep green eyes!

But what about my cheekbones?

I still can't decide as her cheeks look slighted rounded instead of sharp like mine, but that could just be toddler chubbiness and something she'll grow out of.

Then the doorbell rings and dad opens the door to Lamar and Joanna Rhoen, Aunt Rayne's youngest children.

We're surprised to see them in costumes and out trick or treating since it's still summer.

But dad just laughs and drops some candy in Lamar's bucket, when Lamar says with an embarrassed laugh, "Joanna's going to grow up before Halloween and she insisted I bring her to a few houses so she can show off her child costume! I really didn't want to but Mom gave me that look that made it clear that as a big brother I had to live up to my responsibilities. And I was okay with that, sort of, but I wasn't expecting to have to dress up in a silly costume! I feel ridiculous! It would have been bad enough at Halloween, but in the middle of summer, I'm burning up in this thing!"

Behind him Joanna giggled saying, "I didn't want to be the only one dressed up! Besides who better to walk around with an alien than a cow plant!?!"

Still chucking over our summer trick or treaters, I brought Kindle to the nursery and set her on the potty chair.

I figured it's been awhile since we changed her diaper, so I'd start her off straight away before she hand accident.

Then looking down at her from this angle, my heart plummeted, I could plainly see her sharp cheekbones!

But with all the toddler skills she needed to learn, and her cheekbones nothing I could do anything about, I focused on teaching her to walk after using the potty.

She picked it up right away, taking several wobbly steps right into my waiting arms!

Then dad got in a few snuggles of his own with Kindle and her cheekbones jumped out at me again being just like dad's and my own!

But what I was more concerned with were her pouty lips, looking distinctly like a howl was going to come from them any minute!

Dad confirmed my assessment when he said, "I think it's past our sweet girl's bedtime!"

Then he tossed Kindle up in the air, and she was so surprised at the action, that even as tired as she was, she laughed with glee!

I smiled thinking after raising five kids of his own, dad knew all the tricks to getting a toddler back in a good mood.

Then he tickled her tummy for good measure and said, "Tickles at bedtime make your dreams happy ones!"

Kindle was definitely ready for bed now as her eye lids starting closing almost as soon as she stopped laughing.

Dad gave her one last kiss, put her in her crib, and patted her, whispering, "Sweet dreams little one."

But Kindle had no more than settled down in her crib when dad and I heard a shriek from upstairs!

Followed by a sound we knew well, Grim's theme song!

With our hearts in our throats we rushed for the nursery door, and dreaded what we would see when we got to the second floor.

Who was Grim coming for?

It saddens me to have to recount these type of events in my journal, but I know I must.

A family journal not only records life's happy times, the birth's, loves, and marriages of our family, but the passing of it's members too.

Not just to record those moments of loss, but to give us a chance to remember what those family members brought to our lives as they touched our own.

So join me as I sadly record our family's next meeting with Grim in Chapter 71: Saddened by Loss

Chapter 71: Saddened by Loss
« Reply #116 on: March 04, 2020, 01:05:21 PM »

It was our dear Kobe!

With no stray cat around for a hopeful reprieve this time, mom was sobbing at the loss of her best friend.

Dad was sprinting to her side when Grim appeared in all his horror, arms outstretched, his wicked scythe so close to dad I drew in a breathe!

Grim, outraged by dad's carelessness, raised his arms threateningly, his words all the more menacing as they rumbled out like stones, "You dare to interrupt one such as I in the midst of my duty!?!"

At Grim's words, mom's hands fell from her face to look upon this new scene with even more horror.

Losing Kobe was awful enough, but she wasn't ready to lose dad yet, and neither was I!

Grim flung out his arms, towering over dad, as if debating whether dad should be punished for his actions.

I didn't think, though I stepped a few paces away, before yelling, "It's usually a bully that picks on those weaker than themselves!"

Shocked by my own audacity, I clasped my hands over my mouth, waiting for Grim to respond!

But Grim stayed silent, his steps measured until he was between dad and I, and facing Kobe.

As the silence grew, heightening our fear, Grim stretched out his arm, towards me!

Mom gave another sob, crying harder, her words wrenched from her, "No, please, not Rielle! Please!"

Then to our shock, both Grim and Kobe vanished!

There was just a black fog where Grim had stood and a small urn left on the floor where Kobe had been only moments before!

Mom, dad, and I, along with Merlin, stood frozen for a moment longer.

Then, as Leonard joined us, and the black mist disappeared, we all burst into tears!

Tears of sadness at the loss of our beloved cat Kobe, of course.

But also tears of relief that Grim didn't turn his deathly power on me.

Leonard did his best to console me, but he was concerned at the risk I'd taken.

"What if he'd turned on you Rielle? Sweetheart, please promise me you'll never put yourself in danger like that again!"

Through my sobs, I replied, "I, I didn't mean to, I just couldn't bear having him turn on dad like that! It wasn't dad's fault that Grim materialized in that spot just as dad was trying to get to mom. He doesn't have to be such a bully! Especially during a time of grief. You'd think he'd have more compassion after all of these years dealing with death."

"Maybe that's the problem, he's just done it so long, he can't care anymore. Maybe it hurts him too much! After all, he didn't do anything to you after you yelled at him. And he doesn't usually leave so abruptly does he? I seem to remember him cuddling that stray cat for a bit before leaving us."

I sniffed, saying, "You know, you have a point. He's not ever acted that way before. Maybe dad and I caught him off guard. Or he was just having a bad night. I guess when you look at it from Grim's point of view, he has a pretty thankless job! No one ever really likes having him show up. I guess I wouldn't like it very much if people just screamed and cried when I appeared either."

"Let's hope he was just having a bad day, night, whatever, and that he doesn't carry a grudge. You did call him a bully."

"Yeah, I did. I hope he doesn't show up anytime soon, but I guess I owe him an apology."

Ben, a cat lover like mom, was hit hard by Kobe's death too.

Though he tried his best to keep busy researching alchemy and mixing elixirs.

He's determined to master alchemy before he moves out and I want to give him that chance.

As his skill grew and he made more elixirs, he even put a few up for consignment at the shop.

Though Kobe wasn't far from his mind and caused him much heartache.

And he even used an elixir, a vial of bliss, on cousin Kirby to show his gratitude for the tip about the gypsy wagon looking for fortune tellers.

With as bad as Ben and the rest of us felt about losing Kobe, I was thinking it might have helped if he'd used one on himself or one of us.

But he said it wouldn't take away that kind of pain.

Leonard focused on Kindle to help him through this difficult time.

Hugging her every chance he got to ease some of his pain at Kobe's loss.

And tickle time was a favorite for both of them.

With all of their father/daughter bonding time, it was no surprise when they became good friends.

Even when sad thoughts of Kobe struck him, he found focusing on Kindle was the best way to work through his grief.

He focused on her so much that Kindle mastered potty training!

With that accomplished, he encouraged her to strengthen her walking skills by crouching down and holding out his arms.

And Kindle walked straight into them, just like she did for me!

With that early success, Leonard kept at it until she'd mastered walking too!

I kept busy with Sunshine, making sure she was groomed well, fed, and happy.

And I paid particular attention to her hoofs making sure they were cleaned regularly, and didn't have any cracks or sharp edges, a must for any horse, but especially one that races!

While mom and dad held their grief at bay keeping all of Kobe's critters fed and their terrariums cleaned.

A pretty big job with six lizards, five snakes, four turtles, and a rodent!

There were so many that we expanded the basement, adding an entire room just for terrariums!

Since they don't add to the farm income at all, we're not considering it against the 'rules' of Grandma Brooke's farming challenge.

With both her and Grandfather Howard with Grim now, the two that actually entered into the contract, though Grandma Brooke's part was against her will at the time, it's not really necessary anymore.

But mom and I want to continue the spirit of the challenge just the same with each generation having at least three children, earning our money from actual expansions of our farm, and expanding the farm and farmhouse for each generation.

Along with adding something to the community park, which was a pet project of Grandma Brooke and other founding members of Aggie's Corner.

Our contribution to the park was the Gypsy wagon, which not only added a fun and whimsical touch, but also boosted the economy of our little town providing new jobs for those interested in a fortune telling career.

That it's arrival coincided with my brother Ben needing a job and being interested in such things wasn't luck but my determination to do what I could for him, to help him find his way.

Grandma Brooke even floated all the way down to the basement to check on mom.

She knew just how much mom loved Kobe, having raised her from a kitten when she was a child.

And she felt for mom during this hard time.

When Ben wasn't working at the gypsy wagon or researching alchemy, he spent time with Nicole.

She'd gotten a job at the local paper, but wasn't sure it was what she really wanted to do.

Ben encouraged her to look into her heart and find something she was passionate about, and no matter what he was, he told her he was behind her 100%.

"I mean it Nicole! If journalism isn't for you, keep looking until you find what makes you happy. I'm so glad Rielle questioned me about my choices and then encouraged the gypsy folk to open a branch here in Aggie's Corner. I really feel like I've found my calling. And if it hadn't been for you and your genie genetics, I would have never discovered alchemy either. So keep your eyes and mind open and find your own destiny."

"But you changed your mind about becoming a genie. Does that mean you like me less because I'm one?" she asked a bit nervously.

Ben smiled and said, "Not at all, I couldn't like you less if I tried! I wanted to be a genie BECAUSE of you, because I love supernaturals, but I didn't want it to change me that much, take away my family genetics. But I'm really looking forward to the possibility of our kids being genies or vampires, or even both! Maybe a sweet little girl who looks just like her mother!?!"

"Oh, Ben! You would say that when I have to go to work. But please hold that thought and I'll see you later tonight!"

"I'm counting on it Nicole!"

Mom worked through her grief much like Leonard, focusing on Kindle, helping her learn music on the xylophone during playtime.

Getting in plenty of tickles and snuggles.

And getting Kindle a bottle when she was hungry.

Though Mom was still hit with pangs of grief over Kobe, it didn't stop her from becoming friends with her granddaughter!

And when our last harvest sold at the consignment store, Leonard became a level 10 gardener!

His wish was so powerful, he even dreamed about it when it completed as he was sleeping.

And when Nicole stopped by that evening after Ben got home from work, they took up their conversation from where it left off.

"I wanted to make this more romantic Nicole, but since it's raining, I'll get right to the point. Losing Kobe was hard, but it did make one thing possible. Move in with me?"

"Move in with you!?! Oh, I thought you'd never ask! I'll go home and grab my stuff and get settled in tonight!"

Ben laughed, grabbed her up, umbrella and all, and said, "I'll help! We can take the motive mobile and go in style!"

Mom and Leonard have become good friends with Kindle as they both focused on her during this time.

Leonard completed one of his big wishes and became a Level 10 gardener!

And  though we'll all miss Kobe dearly, especially mom and Ben, it did allow Nicole to become part of the family.

But before Nicole, who's a vampire/genie hybrid, gets a chance to settle in, we have another unexpected event!

As I recount this one, you better sit down, as it's a doozy.

Chapter 72: Making an Enemy
« Reply #117 on: March 06, 2020, 07:40:32 PM »

The first thing Nicole did was work on some skills, to see where her passion lay.

She began by working out to the radio down in the basement.

After gaining an athletic skill point, she decided that athletics wasn't it as she'd rather lounge on the couch watching sports on TV than participate in them!

Then to add to their happiness points, Ben and Nicole drove over to the elixir shop.

Ben, to list a few more of his elixirs for consignment and work on gaining his last two alchemy points.

Nicole, to purchase a vampiric sunscreen, that Ben hadn't had the chance to make yet.

Back at the house, Leonard woke up full of energy after his nap, determined to master gardening.

He was so close to his last skill point that it only took a few moments of tending the garden to fulfill his wish!

He came in the house so excited that he grabbed me and planted a heat of the moment kiss on my lips!

I, of course, kissed him right back, and then my maternal instincts kicked in and I wanted to have another child with Leonard more than anything!

I was so moved by the feeling that I expressed my wishes to Leonard right then and there.

He told me he still hadn't given up on us having a boy, so as soon as there was room in the house, he'd be happy to work on that!

I agreed with that plan wholeheartedly, thinking that we'd be able to get started adding to our family as soon as Ben and Nicole moved out with Merlin.

But I wasn't going to push them, Leonard and I still had plenty of time as we were still both a few days from our adult birthdays.

And I wanted to get in a few more races with Sunshine before I was out on maternity leave again.

But that didn't stop Leonard and I from spending some romantic time in our room that night!

The next morning, mom spent some time with Kindle teaching her to talk.

We thought she'd pick it up quickly after learning to potty and walk so fast.

But she remained determinedly silent as mom mentioned several of her favorite foods.

Then chatted on about cookbooks and all the different recipes you could learn.

Still nothing!

At that point, Mom begged her to say anything, stooping so low as to offer her a treat if she did!

But Kindle just shook her head and smiled her sweet smile.

Mom was just about ready to give up when she said, "Well, maybe talking just isn't your thing, sweetie. Maybe you'll be the silent type who prefers a quiet day fishing."

And to our amazement Kindle said her first word, "Fishing!"

Mom clapped excitedly at their breakthrough and decided to continue.

"How about cell phone sweetie? Can you say, cell phone?"

And Kindle did!

Then Leonard raced into the nursery as mom let out a scream!

"Is Kindle alright mom?!?"

But mom was too overwrought to even speak.

And then in the next instant Leonard knew, we all did!

It wasn't a leftover pang of grief over Kobe, but a fresh one for Flynn!

Thankfully, being so young, Kindle just went on with her own business of using the potty, instead of being affected by it.

Being in the nursery, mom and Leonard made it to Flynn before the rest of us.

Even our new maid followed Merlin outside to see what was going on.

And Grim was already there!

I made it outside just as Grim was picking up Flynn.

Mom and Leonard were already sobbing, and the maid was looking at Leonard commiserating with him at the loss of our pet.

Grim gave Flynn a cuddle, stroking his soft fur and making him purr.

Then, as a beam of green light appeared, Grim held a pink catnip toy above Flynn, and as Flynn jumped for it, he disappeared into the light!

This was more than I could take!

The nerve of Grim, to take both of mom's pets within days of each other!

As mom ran into the house sobbing her heart out, Leonard debated if he should follow her or not.

But I had no such debate over my own actions and quickly walked over to face Grim.

Pulling back with all I had, I smacked him a good one!

"How dare you treat my family so! We just lost Kobe and you acted like a bully then! And now, you dare show your face here and take another of our beloved pets! It's unconscionably!"

I could hear Leonard's sobs, whether over Flynn, my actions or both, I didn't know.

But it was Grim's reaction that was of the utmost importance.

I shook my hand, saying, "Ow! That hurt way more than I thought it would."

Grim held up his hands in shock and rumbled, "What'd you do that for!?! I was just doing my job Rielle Swanson! No need to get physical! I've already let you get away with calling me a bully as I deserved that one for the way I treated your father. But slapping me after I made Flynn's passage so nice for him? I think you're the one that needs to look at your own behavior before calling me out on mine!"

Still hot with anger, I replied, "My behavior!?! You're the one that causes needless hurt and pain by taking beloved family members away. I'd been planning on apologizing for the bully remark, but I never expected you to be so heartless as to reappear here so soon."

Grim straightened, his rigid stance showing his own anger and hissed, "I am not one you want for an enemy, Rielle Swanson! Contemplate that along with the ache in the palm that dared touch my person!"

Leonard tired to intervene on my behalf, beseeching Grim with, "Please Mr. Grim, she's overcome with grief at the loss of two pets so close together. She's not herself…"

But Grim stood his ground and, pointing one of his boney fingers at Leonard, he replied, "Don't try to schmooze her way out of this young man! Your wiles won't work on me!  I don't make threats lightly, and I won’t start now, but I can promise you both that I won't forget this! The next time we meet she better hold her tongue, and keep her hands to herself, or I won't hold back from acting in kind!"

Mom, unaware of the continued drama with Grim outside, was again consoling herself by focusing on Kindle.

But Kindle wasn't settling down as easily as she usually did, probably sensing our sadness at Flynn's passing, so soon on the heels' of Kobe's.

Leonard thought a change of scenery and some fresh air might do her some good, so he took her on a stroll.

Kindle settled into the stroller seat right away and seemed happy about going on a little adventure.

I was still shook up after losing Flynn and the altercation with Grim, so I used that energy in a positive way and saddled up Sunshine and headed to the race track!

We got there in plenty of time and had numerous races that were still lining up contestants.

Sunshine wanted to try an Advanced race so we gave it a shot!

We placed second, adding to my race winnings.

We'd completed our first race early enough to enter a second event that same night.

This time we tried a show jumping competition and ended up in the International one instead of a Beginner, or even an Advanced, so we didn't do as well as we'd hoped to, only placing fourth.

But it was late now, and would be even later by the time I rode Sunshine home, and got her brushed and settled in her stall for the night.

Besides, between losing Flynn, my altercation with Grim, and competing in two events tonight, I was sad, unsettled, and exhausted.

With all of the focus being on Kindle and losing Flynn, Nicole's moving in got a bit overlooked.

Will she follow Ben's advice and find her passion, changing her goals as he did?

And what will it be like having a supernatural in the house?

Let's find out in Chapter 73: A Vampire/Genie in the House!

Chapter 73: Vampire/Genie in the House!
« Reply #118 on: March 08, 2020, 07:24:05 PM »

Ben really wanted Nicole to show off her genie powers, so we could see why he'd wanted to become one.

First, with just a snap of her fingers, she cleaned the entire lot, including all the terrariums off the nectary basement!

Even dad was impressed by that trick!

Then she asked everyone what their favorite meals were, and she made perfect family servings of each one, again with just a finger snap!

She started with crepes and fruit parfait, Ben's, mom's, and dad's favorites.

Then moved on to chili and dim sum, both of those being vegetarian versions, for me and Leonard.

We figured Kindle was too young to eat her favorite hot dogs, so Nicole made her a toddler size chocolate cake!

The smells of all these dishes filled the house with their appetizing scents, and everyone was really looking forward to eating their favorite over the next week.

But after doing all of that for us, we encouraged Nicole to take time for herself, to figure out her life's goals.

She'd moved in with three points in gardening and four in charisma, but neither of those held a huge interest for her, though she did help out enough in the gardens to earn another gardening skill point.

Her current LTW was to become an Alchemy Artisan, though she'd not picked that choice herself, so she figured once she found out where her talent and passion lay, she'd choose one that meant something to her.

Her current career in journalism was just a job, nothing she was passionate about, so she quit that to give herself plenty of time to check out different hobbies or skills to discover what filled her with excitement and happiness.

She'd watched a cooking show on TV, but being able to magical whip up perfect meals, cooking the traditional way didn't really appeal to her.

But when she mentioned that she'd always had a leaning toward art, thought she'd never had the chance to try her hand at it, except for the required art classes in school, we encouraged her to give it a try.

But being the perfectionist that she is, painting was quite the slow process for her.

I watched her for a bit, but my enthusiasm and patience waned with the length of her deliberations.

It wasn't a lack of talent, but rather the painstaking decisions for her of choosing the perfect color, or color mix, for every brush stroke!

And then another lengthy consideration of where to place that brush stroke, and if it should be light, blended, or bold!

But even with her perfectionist trait slowing her down, by the time she'd finished a few paintings, she'd actually gained three skill points.

When she'd added barely a touch of color here and there, when I was hoping to see a finished painting, especially with her nightly vampire skill boost, she let out a laugh at my sigh and said, "I have a feeling that though I have an innate artistic bent, I'd be one of those artists who's works only have value after their death! And vampires live a very long time!"

With that in mind the following night she turned to playing guitar as another expression of her artistry.

And though she's not a virtuoso like Breeze, with her vampiric senses boosting her skill, she picked it up very quickly!

Merlin even started yowling along, though the cat's noises left something to be desired as far as vocals went.

With the house settling down for sleep, Nicole thought it best to stop playing as no one would be sleeping with that accompaniment!

And with just a few hours of playing she'd earned three more skill points, something that would have taken someone without vampire genetics quite some time to accomplish.

But the impromptu concert gave Nicole enough time to realize that she was happiest when doing something creative and artistic, so she chose Master of the Arts for her new LTW.

And a quick check on-line at the local theater website showed her an entry level job that was available, so she filled out the application with high hopes.

Then Nicole ran outside as her vampiric hearing was attracted by a high pitched noise.

The rest of us, hearing nothing, went about our nightly bedtime routines.

Except for Ben, who followed her, his curiosity for all things supernatural aroused.

But he only got as far as the front porch when his eyes flew open in amazement at the sight before him.

Nicole standing in the driveway looking up at bright, flickering, streams of light that were lighting up the night sky!

Thinking it was some nighttime phenomena like the northern lights, he quickly snapped a photo.

But when the lights disappeared, and a mechanical whirring sound grew louder and what could only be described as an alien ship appeared, Ben's curiosity was replaced by fear!

He shouted at Nicole to run to him, to get away from the ship at once!

But it was too late!

A beam of energy shot out of the ship, enveloped Nicole, and carried her up and away into the ship!

Ben could hear Nicole's terrified screams from where he stood, powerless to help her.

Ben stood there in shock not knowing what to do, who to call for help, wondering who would even believe his story.

And his shock grew as, only minutes after Nicole's abduction, an alien craft appeared hovering above the street in front of him.

Then to his amazement and relief, Nicole stood on the sidewalk!

Next to her stood one who could only be called an alien, someone foreign to our world, not even looking like the supernaturals that were the norm here in Aggie's Corner.

But before he could get a close-up, the alien disappeared!

Ben quickly ran to Nicole and hustled her inside, to the safety of the living room, though Ben doubted that any of us were really safe anywhere after what he'd just witnessed.

He wasn't sure what to do for Nicole, what to ask, afraid he would say the wrong thing and make the experience even more traumatic.

But Nicole solved that problem when she leaned towards him, her hand gripping his shoulder, and whispered, "Just hold me, so I know you're real!"

Ben assured her he was real and that she was okay now. Safe.

But he kept telling her how sorry he was for not being able to stop it from happening.

Nicole cried quietly in his arms for some time, though she told Ben that they hadn't done much to her.

After a cursory physical exam, which only involved a metal object with a white light scanning down her body, she heard them say she wasn't what they were looking for.

But then Nicole added, "Not heard exactly, it was like their thoughts just appeared in my mind, they never actually spoke. And I don't think I was even supposed to remember even that much, but my hybrid vampire/genie genetics seemed to confuse them."

Once Nicole had stopped crying, stopped shaking, Ben stepped back and said, "This whole experience has made me realize one thing Nicole. I never want to lose you or be without you again!"

And he dropped to one knee, snapped open a small jeweler's box, from which a ring glittered, saying, "Nicole Culver, please do me the honor of becoming my wife, marry me?"

Nicole didn't speak, just clasped her hands over her mouth in astonishment.

Then, her eyes filling with tears, she whispered, "But what if they did do something to me? What if I lose all my hair or have an alien child?"

Ben dried her tears and said, "Then I'll have the most beautiful bald vampire/genie wife or a child we will raise together as best we can. Neither of those things, or anything else, would stop me from wanting you to be my wife!"

Ben's immediate response with no hesitation satisfied Nicole's fears and she held out her hand, as he knelt once more to place the ring upon her finger.

As she felt the solid weight of it, Ben's hands holding her own, her tears were replaced by a happy smile.

With her, 'yes' still ringing in his hears, and his ring on her finger, Ben swept her in his arms for a passionate kiss!

After Ben told us the entire tale, all I could think of was that my tall, dark, and handsome brother may not be a hopeless romantic, but he sure has style!

And what a way to take a girl's mind off such an awful experience, and replace it with one she'll remember with hope and love for the rest of her life.

Thankfully the next few days were uneventful, well, not totally uneventful, just filled with happier events.

Ben gained his tenth skill point and mastered Alchemy!

He rushed right home, pulled Nicole into his arms, and proudly told her of his accomplishment.

Then he asked how far she'd come with her painting and guitar skills.

When she told him that she now had five skill points in each one, he congratulated her and said, "Then I think it's time!"

When Nicole looked at him, a question in her eyes, he smiled and said, "Time I made you my wife!"

And they exchanged wedding rings right on the spot!

Making simple but heartfelt vows to love, honor, and cherish one another and their union from that moment forward.

A kiss sealed the moment and they happily told us they were now, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Swanson!

And after a quick shower, they packed up their belongings and moved into the Dean house across the way, which was recently put on the market!

Mom was thrilled to have them so living close, with Ben being her baby and all.

But I'm betting she'll be even more thrilled soon as, though my hearings not anything like Nicole's, I swear I heard a lullaby amidst all that showering and packing!

Kindle was a little sad to see her 'Uncle Benji' and her new Aunt with the 'sparkly' eyes leaving us, so I consoled her with the thought of a new cousin soon, and maybe even a baby brother or sister!

I whispered my little secret to her as well, "If mommy has her way, maybe one of each!"

Kindle didn't care either way, or if I had twins or not, but I was hoping that would mean more racing time for me without another maternity leave, before Sunshine and I got too old for the racing circuit.

But with four spaces available in the house, I immediately called the pet adoption services and chose a prospective mate for Sunshine.

They didn't have a lot of choices for a male horse who was both old enough to breed and race, but I found a beautiful brown stallion called Wayfarer that appealed to me!

He was quiet but a bit clueless, but I figured with some focused training, he'd do well on the farm.

As soon as he arrived, I introduced myself and gave him a good brushing down.

His tail and mane were a beautiful white and stood out in contrast against his glossy brown coat, and even darker stockings.

Unfortunately, Sunshine and Wayfarer's first meeting didn't go as well as I was hoping it would.

Then they engaged in some 'horseplay', which shocked me with it's exuberance, both horses leaping and snorting to show themselves off to the best advantage.

I thought for sure one of them would hurt the other, a nip or bite, or maybe even a hoof striking the other and causing an injury.

But they both enjoyed the socializing and came out of it unscathed.

Afterwards, they actually had a calm moment and nuzzled one another!

So there's still hope for these two.

I would have liked to have both Sunshine and me out on maternity leave at the same time, but since these two just met, I'm thinking it's going to take awhile before I can even think about that happening.

Nicole was a wonderful addition to our family even though her time here was brief.

She made everyone's favorite meals, and figured out where her talents and happiness lay, with painting and guitar.

We're all still trying to come to terms with her abduction, but instead of focusing on that negative experience, we're happy that it brought her and Ben closer together, and prompted his proposal and their quick marriage.

And we're really looking forward to finding out if those chimes I heard meant what I think they meant!

But with Ben, Nicole, and Merlin moving across the way to the former Dean home, we have some spaces left in our own.

I've filled one with a new stallion, Wayfarer, and hope he'll become Sunshine's mate in the not so distant future.

But that still leaves three empty spaces in the house.

So time to fill it up again!

I have some big plans for that, and so does Mom.

But she also wants to check in on all her kids and grandchildren, so I'll be filling up my next entry with those updates.

Chapter 74: Mom Goes Visiting
« Reply #119 on: March 11, 2020, 11:03:58 AM »

Mom had planted some unknown special seeds in our garden and boy were we surprised when one of them turned out to be a money tree, that had actual bags of cash you could harvest!

None of the amounts were life-changing, like our lottery winnings, but mom was so tickled at actually growing such a special plant that she decided to treat herself and get something truly meaningful.

Welcome the newest addition to our family, Heidi!

She's such a cute little kitten that mom can't resist holding her and snuggling her at every opportunity.

Mom had hoped to adopt one of Flynn's now grown kittens, or even one of his son Cymoril's offspring, but none of them were available, and when she saw little Heidi it was love at first sight for both of them.

But after seeing her photo with Heidi, mom decided that she needed to choose a hairstyle a little more fitting for her elder years, along with some new clothes.

An upswept do with a huge white bow, appealed to her sense of style, along with being practical for our hot lengthy summers.

And since she's still trying to stay fit, she chose a comfy athletic outfit.

For everyday, a crisp white shirt and light gray cotton pants, with an serviceable apron to keep them cleaner in the garden.

With that thought in mind, she headed outside to get some needed replanting done.

First she transplanted the unknown special plants to areas they belonged, a flame fruit bush, a life plant, along with a death flower bush!

Then she started replanting our red berry bean bed.

Since it's our cash crop, we like to keep it full of plants in various stages of growth, to keep our cash flow going strong.

Our last harvest brought in over $50,000 simoleans after everything sold, so a cash crop indeed!

And even dad couldn't resist the lure of the money tree, braving the outdoors to harvest a money bag or two!

Nearby, Wayfarer was enjoying the space in the yard to gallop around and increase his speed and endurance.

Wayfarer was so excited about his new home, that he reared and whinnied frequently.

At least I thought that was the reason, until I spotted Sunshine nearby and wondered if Wayfarer wasn't doing a bit of showing off just for her benefit!

I have high hopes that, in due time, these two will pair off as mates and add a sweet little foal to our farm.

Speaking of mates, with spaces open in the house, Leonard's been focusing his irresistible self on me!

Blowing me kisses that make me go weak in the knees.

And flirting so outrageously that I can't help but respond in kind.

So much so that we retire to the privacy of our room for a delightful afternoon nap!

I've been on the tired side lately, and we suspect that we might be parents again soon.

Dad took the opportunity to play with Kindle, making her laugh again and again.

Then getting her a bottle before settling her in her crib for her own nap.

This left mom and dad free to do some visiting in town.

Their first stop was Dean and Danica's where mom chats with her nephew, Errol, Winter and Michael's oldest son, who recently became a young adult.

And the toddler at their feet is none other than mom and dad's grandson, Wyatt!

Mom can't resist picking him up for some cuddles and snuggles.

He's such a cutie, this first born son of Dean and Danica's!

Look at that mischievous look in his eyes and that impish smile!

I think Dean's going to have his hands full with this little boy!

After my restoring nap, I quickly changed into riding gear, eager to begin Wayfarer's training.

But as I stood by his side, readying myself to mount, an odd feeling overcame me.

And the feeling that Leonard and I had about being parents again soon was confirmed!

As Wayfarer skittishly moved away, I patted my baby bump!

Unable to ride during pregnancy, I contented myself with calming Wayfarer and building our relationship by giving him a good brushing.

Sunshine watched nearby and I wasn't sure if she was just envious of Wayfarer stealing my attention or if she was admiring his gleaming coat and thinking along motherly lines herself!

With carrying a child being so tiring, I spent some time in the nursery rocker, watching over Kindle as she played with her doll.

Then, I got started on my plan to make this pregnancy my last.

First, I turned the radio in the entry to kid's music.

Then I placed Kindle on the floor in the living room, so I could keep an eye on her, and settled down on the couch for some kid's TV!

With twins in Leonard's family, plus me focusing on everything baby, I'm hoping to fill our last two spots at once!

In the meantime, mom and dad had moved on to Ward and Diana's house, which was right next door to Dean and Danica's.

Both homes were of a modern style and beautifully furnished, but mom's attention was totally focused on grandchildren.

Kindle of course, and how she'd be starting school soon.

But as dad complimented Diana on the new house, mom asked, with a knowing look, "And it has a nursery you'll be filling soon, right?!?"

Ward smiled as Diana nodded a bit solemnly and mom just glowed at the thought of another grandchild.

Then mom and dad headed on to their last destination, Rielle and Barrett's home.

Where they found another addition to their family, a cute puppy named Bridgette!

And Bianca was right there in the living room, a toddler now, playing with her peg box!

Dad quickly headed upstairs, hearing the sounds of another toddler, and not happy sounds.

But seeing Bianca's beautiful smile and her eager, "Play with me?", mom couldn't deny her granddaughter.

She sat right down and started pointed out the shapes and colors to her first thing.

And Bianca, happy to have the attention, laughed and giggled as she placed shape after shape.

Dad found Anthony screaming away in the bathroom, and handed over a bottle.

With Anthony's eager grab, dad figured he'd guessed right as to the cause of the tantrum.

Downstairs, Bianca's moved on to throwing a small fit of her own, and it looks like the puppy's hungry too!

But mom and dad timed their visit so that they'd get to spend some time with Bruce too, and he's just arrived home from school.

While Barrett got a bottle for Bianca and got the twins settled down for afternoon naps, mom and dad helped Bruce with his homework.

Just seeing the smile on mom's face you know she's feeling that getting to spend a day visiting all her kids and grandkids was the best day ever!

Wait until she gets home and finds out that Ben and Nicole are expecting their first child, and I'm expecting again too, and doing my best to ensure twins!

I'm sure her squeals will be heard in the farthest spots in Aggie's Corner.

Not only does she have her new kitten Heidi to play with, but soon more grandchildren.

But before that happens, we've got more birthdays in Chapter 75: Double Birthday
Coming soon.
