Island Living - Buggy?
« on: June 23, 2019, 11:54:27 PM »
Is anyone having issues with Island Living being buggy?  My sims just stand there and stop performing tasks and time goes on and on.  I thought it was an issue with this current family but I started a new game and it's the same.  It's happening so often the game isn't playable and it was fine before island living.  I have tried to reset the sim and that doesn't work.

You haven't mentioned if you use mods or not, or if you've tried resetting the Sims 4 folder.

Here are some troubleshooting steps to try.

1. Move your mods folder to the desktop, delete the game cache as well as the localthumbcache.package from your Sims 4 folder. [C:\Users\Username\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4]

Try a new save to test to see if your issue goes away. If so, you will need to go through your mods folder to see what need to be replaced.

Game updates can cause issues with mods and custom content. These may become outdated with each new game update.

Please check with the creators to see if there are updates to the mods and cc you use.

Please see link below if you need help fixing the issue.

How-To: Fix Problems with Mods/CC
https://www.carls-sims-4-guide.com/forum/index.php?topic=25031.msg426156#msg426156

2. Try Resetting the Sims 4 folder.

Do this by moving or renaming the Sims 4 folder in the Documents folder [C:\Users\Username\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4]

The game will create a new Sims 4 folder next time you launch/play the game.

Try a new save to test. Do not add any saves or mods back just yet. You want to make sure it plays okay first. If it does, then start copying back the files and folders described in the link below:

Files and Folders To Add Back In
http://www.carls-sims-4-guide.com/forum/index.php?topic=29292.msg401669#post_FF2AB

-- When you move or rename the Sims 4 folder, the game will no longer be able to find it. When you go to play the game it will create a new folder.

Okay, but have you tried any of the other tips?

It doesn't matter if you use mods and/or cc, deleting the game cache and the localthumbcahche.package file from The Sims 4 folder helps with troubleshooting the problem.

You mention it happening in a new game. So trying to reset the Sims 4 folder might help fix that. You can save the Sim and their house by saving them to the Library.

After moving the files and folders back. Load the game to the Main Menu and from there, go to your library to find your Sims and house. :)

There does seem to be an issue with Sims just standing in place for a long time. There is a bug report over at EA Answers HQ (this place is great, check it often). I have had a Sim get "stuck in place" right outside a publich bathroom. I reloaded the game before he peed himself though. NPCs also get stuck in my game, and I have had a series of actions get seemingly stuck, but when I reload (or just go to map mode and back) all of it has been executed. Weird stuff. If the Sims 4 team wasn't so pressed for timel maybe they would get a lot more playtesting and bugfixing done before release.

Bugs are a feature in any sims game. Each patch and pack comes with them. Yes the fix them but then go and create more of them. Part of the game play challenge is to figure out the least invasive work around for the latest bugs. At least that is how I look at it.

Yes, longtime player and none of the usuals worked.

That's why I posted here.  I think it's a bug in this release.

There are other random things like them standing in the exact same place, swimming motions on the sand, completing work at home tasks but they never check off, I could go on.  Lots of random issues that aren't normal.  I did also attempt to post at EA but it kept resetting my info box and I finally just said forget it.

A random bug here and there is one thing, but when you actually can't play the game due to it, that's another.  Thanks.

Thank you... my searches weren't coming up with anything recent so I'll take a look at this one.

I do agree... I don't think they can anticipate all bugs but mine seems to be filled.  I work around most of them but when your sim just stops and stands there and no reset options work, you can't even play.  It sucks.  I restarted about 10 times and finally just deleted the entire folder for the game.  Lol.

Now that I finally got unstuck (deleted the entire EA folder and started the game again)... I loaded the same family.  I've noticed several more things.

Won't complete survey ocean wildlife
Pregnant sim doesn't look pregnant like she usually does
Won't complete grilling or when does complete grilling, food plate disappears or is put in inventory (I've had both happen)
Sims were swimming then when got to land kept swimming but IN the sand (that's a weird one).

Adding:  Invited in a visitor, they stay forever... no ask to leave interaction.

This is with no mods, no cc, and no cheats on.

I feel really silly asking this... Have you tried playing a new household or house to see if either have become corrupt some how?

A few different ones both within the current game and also a completely new game.

Thank you for posting an issues list.

It looks like some of these have been reported as bugs and getting looked into.

It's been suggested to travel to a different lot and then the visitor should go away after that.

Here's a open bug report on the Grilled food.

Not completing the ocean wildlife is possibly due to your sim being a mermaid? Maybe? Mermaids can not do this.
Pregnant sim not looking correct could be due to you removing buffs with a cheat... this causes the pregnant buff to be removed along with the pregnancy but leaves the sim in a glitched manner.
Grilling going into a sim inventory is deliberate, this has been actioned by the game devs and is now an intended feature.
Sims swimming in land is just a minor visual really as they will just stand up and walk normally in a bit anyway.

The option from the bouy isn't working properly - don't use it, instead click on the corals near the beach of Caldera Camp

Don't know about this one.

I don't know about being unable to complete grilling, but as a new thing, Sims will put grilled food in their inventory instead of placing it in the world.

Sounds like a classical glitch that needs be fixed by the Sims team.

Yeah, annoying bug. I made a report over at Answers HQ: https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports/OPEN-IL-Unwanted-House-Guests/td-p/7964118
