As Sims 4 continues
« on: June 22, 2019, 03:39:24 AM »
I’m wondering if anyone has any insight into how sims 4 will progress over the next few years? I have been enjoying it; but noticed they’ve left out things they had in sims 3, like horses, and following sims as they dive. I have thought that most likely they are trying to space out the content more, and will release everything eventually - I thought this because they released “Cats & Dogs” instead of “Pets”, which leaves room for “horses” or “farm” packs in the future. Does anyone agree with me? Or is it more likely they’ll end sims 4 soon and move on to sims 5?

I think it's important to remember that Sims 3 and Sims 4 are two very different game with different workings. I have no doubt that the developers spend just as much time on Sims 4 as they did on Sims 3. That adding new features is just not the same as it was with Sims 3. I believe the team has announced that Sims 4 will be running for at least 3-4 more years.

Let's try to keep an open mind and leave the comparison behind a little :)

Oh I think sims 4 plays a lot more smoothly. I greatly appreciate the extra time they seem to be spending on it. I find the game much easier to play and less stressful with glitches.
I’m just wondering if anyone knows much about their content plans, if they’re gonna add everything eventually.

But I’m glad to hear that they’ve got 3-4 years left :)

I find Sims 4 far more stressful than Sims 3 for me.

I keep on trying it and keep on finding it stressful and keep on returning to Sims 3.

I guess I'm just used to the Sims 3 glitches and that it suits me better.

Also, I'm proud to say I'm still Mod Free in Sims Three. :)

Wow! I find it exactly the opposite. And I resorted to mods because of the glitches. But I haven’t played 3 in a long time.
Interesting that we have such opposite experiences. What do you find stressful and sims 4?

Basically everything except for creation of Sims :)

Creating houses, controlling the sims, understanding the mechanics of the game, having my sims not die on me, not having firemen turn up when my sims start a fire, but having neighbourhood sims turn up ... all of it, basically. :)

It took me a long time to warm up to Sims 4, and I still get periods where I can't stomach its workings and need a break. I suppose it is individual how much a slave of habit one is. Sometimes, as illogical as it may seem, it feels more comfortable to deal with old and well known issues, rather than getting used to something new.

@Deklitch Before starting Sims 4 play for real, I suggest you really read up on how this iteration works. Even the littlest things. As grounded as you are in Sims 3, launching oneself into a game where everything is new and different can be very intimidating and overwhelming if you come more or less unprepared. My best advice is to read up on gameplay and features beforehand, and also be sure you've got the energy and will to take on a rather different experience from Sims 3. It comes off as a little too easy to just dismiss the whole thing as impossible, if you don't give yourself as well as the game a fair chance to begin with ;)

@Nindigo thanks for the suggestion, however I've already done all that. I even tried to ask questions here about it on various things, and to say the response I got from some here ("just go and watch the Youtube Videos and don't ask about the game here") was less than helpful would be me being polite about it. Guess what ... I didn't go and watch the Youtube Videos but I also didn't ask any further questions about it here, either.

Sims 4 is basically not my scene, AND I tried to play it "for real" whatever you mean by that, since it first came out. I preordered Sims 4 and everything! I come back to it every now and then to play it some more, but continue running into the same issues with it. I know I'm vastly in the minority in my feelings of it.

It is not my scene just like Civilization V was not my scene but Civilization I-IV were and Civilization VI is, Heroes of Might and Magic III and V are my scene but not the rest of that franchise, Star Trek Enterprise was not for me, but all the other series of that franchise were, the Lord of the Rings books were highly enjoyable for me, but not the movies, the GoT tv series was enjoyable to me, but not those books, but yet I enjoyed Harry Potter books and movies just as much as each other.

@Deklitch No worries at all. I believe all gamers have their scenes where they excel and feel comfortable - myself and my husband included. Heh, he is playing Civ II with a friend as I'm writing this.

FWIW, I find it highly unlikely that EA will delay the release of Sims 5 for another 4 years. Sims 4 is fast approaching its 5th anniversary in September, and that has traditionally been the release schedule of all the Sims games -- about 5 years give or take. If I could wave a magic wand and get one thing brought back for Sims 5 it's open world. No more loading screens every time I leave my lot.

I actually don’t mind no open world, because it put a strain on the game and made it lag quite badly at times.

My worst experience in Sims 3 was when I tried those mods for it - overwatch and so forth. My experience was they seemed to cause my game to go worse. I removed them from my game and it seems to be going better for me once again. But then again, I've never been one for mods ... to paraphrase Sheldon Cooper "I want to be disappointed in the [manner] that [the designers] intended. (Sheldon actually said "I want to be disappointed in the order that George Lucas intended".

Open World oh and Aggie the Maggie (Magnificent) remain two of the big drawcards for me from Sims 3 oh and fish not going bad in inventory.

@Deklitch  I'm sad to hear you had that kind of response especially when MrsFlynn and I do a lot of helping people with TS4 issues, MrsFlynn here on the forum and me mostly over on Carl's Guide. If there is ever anything you want to know please ask us. If we don't know we can try to find out.

And I appreciate TS4 is not the game for you, I too love TS3 still and play that a lot.

As for TS4 well, if you think of it as a completely different game to TS3 then sure that helps a lot but it is really the 4th iteration of a beloved series of sims games.

When I think of TS4 in isolation I can appreciate many things about it, also helped by the fact that I love the art style almost as much as I love the art style of TS3.

I miss the deeper game play of TS3 a lot, but the good news is I can go and play TS3 anytime I like. I appreciate the fact that the devs have made leaps and bounds when thinking about style, texture and general game play mechanics such as culling, relationships and so on.

I also think that TS4 will last for some years still as until there is a reason, a tech reason for TS4 to be updated..why would they? After all the art style is universally popular and really won't date any time soon. We know that behind the scenes the devs work hard at increasing the saves population (indeed it has gone up again with the last patch) and general stability of the game to help ensure the game runs smoothly so to me,  that indicates TS4 is here for the long haul.
