The Heart cut

Is this available in the base game? And if it is, how do you get it? I've collected all the gems, had gems cut in all ways, but the heart simply does not seem to be available. Am I missing something?

The heart cut becomes available after you find a certain number of different gems.  I believe you can find the exact number in the collecting skill journal.

You have to enter the journal through another skill and collecting will be a tab at the top.  You can't enter directly from the skill panel.

You also have to collect ten unique gems to unlock the heart - which is just about everything in base game if I remember correctly.

Yep, it was all the gems from the base game. Not sure if the expansion gems count towards that challenge...

They do.  It makes it much easier to open the heart cut when your Sim travels and collects gems from other places.

Do they? I don't know really, but when my sim found only 50 % of the total gems (I got both WA & AMB), she already got the heart cut! Maybe this is some kind of glitch...

There is no glitch, in base game we had 10 gems, and now with all EP there is 25 of them. Challenge still demand finding 10 of them, so you need to find less than 50% to get heart cut, if you have all EP.

You're welcome, I'm glad I could help.
 In guide Carl listed all gems with expansions they come with. And in skill journal you can get info about requirement for "special cut". In total there is 25 gems and 12 available cuts, but getting other gems into spire and split polished half's is possible only through transfiguration, as well as getin skull cut for any gem. I also never saw tiberium in any other shape but spire, heart and skull, even if theoretically it should be possible to get emerald cut tiberium as it is for geode and septarian nodule (which I already have).  Easiest way to get this challenge done is to have martial artist who is spawning gems by breaking space rocks.

How did you find the gems?
Did you actually find them and collect them, or did you dig them up with the miner or buy them at the consignment store?
For gems to count towards your total gems collected you need to seek them out and collect them.

I finally found the tenth gem with one sim; I'd found all ten, but each of my Sims has only found nine. After two full circuits of every gem and mineral spawn site in Riverview, the younger had finally found a rainbow gem, and unlocked the heart cut.
