Another question:
Does the perfectionist trait increase or decrease the amount of money per hour
(for writing and painting mostly)?

Perfectionists do paint better paintings and write better books, but it takes them longer to complete them, I haven't done a test to see how much longer, maybe someone else has! Probably Metro!  ;D

Ok, last question  :o
(hopefully you don't find my question spamming too annoying...  :P)
The "artistic" trait makes you learn the painting skill faster, and it makes it possible to paint somber still lives earlier on.
Even though this is handy, I would argue it is not one of the best traits for a painter.
From what I can remember any sim will learn the painting skill quite fast, and a boost isn't really needed.
Is it really true that the artistic trait doesn't do anything for a painter after they arrived at level 10?

Thanks in advance,

Phufhi

PS. I would like to compliment on the activeness of the forum members, because my questions were answered in a matter of minutes  :D

I don't think it helps after you get to Level 10, I may be wrong but I haven't seen any difference in my painters with and without. Thanks for the compliment, this forum is amazing! No I don't find your questions annoying because how else are you going to learn?

I just haven't gotten around to doing writing. Too much other stuff to do at the time being.

I have an author, self-employed now, who has been writing since she was a teen and now is halfway to elder.  I don't have her stats on her writing and reading books but currently is making around $16,000 per week, which I think is really good.  Unfortunately her life has been taken up with raising 2 daughters so she hasn't been writing as much but the option has come up for her to write a masterpiece which I think she's going to undertake.  Too bad it only pays a one-time payment of $2000.  Oh and once your author is able to write books faster, romance is the way to go...pays around $2000/wk x 6 weeks.

One of my immortals in the new Dynasty Challenge is slated to be a Professional Author, so I'll try and remember to keep some detailed notes.

Thanks for that, you have given me hope.  Olga has smoke coming from her keyboard, trying to earn promotion as a self-employed author [stuck at 5].  She's got all the Lifetime Rewards necessary, and has ticked all 3 boxes in the Skills department; so it will be Romantic Novels once she's finished her Masterpiece [if she lives that long!].

I still haven't unravelled why the §§§ doesn't seem to move on, though.  The interim payments seem to register, but the final royalties don't.  Possibly.

Hey!
Today I made a writer, and it's the first sim I had that was 'rich' (100.000 simoleons xD)
(shows how much of a noob I am).

What I did was mostly write Children's books, and it worked out quite well.
Just before I stopped earning money (it was becoming kind of boring, because I was playing for 3 hours :P) the children's books were pumping out around 600-700 per book (I had tons of hits and best-sellers).
It seems like I could write about 4 or 5 (can't really remember) books per day.

If we take the minimum: 600 * 4 = 2400 per day x 6 weeks
So if you do this for 6 weeks it would max out at 2400 x 42 = 100800 simoleons per week

I have an author, self-employed now, who has been writing since she was a teen and now is halfway to elder.  I don't have her stats on her writing and reading books but currently is making around $16,000 per week, which I think is really good.

I don't know if there is a mistake in my calculations, if you weren't focusing almost all of your time on writing books, or if you meant the addition of income each week, but 16,000 per week seems quite low.

Too bad it only pays a one-time payment of $2000.

Are you sure? I think I got about 9000 simoleons per week for 6 weeks for a masterpiece.

Oh and once your author is able to write books faster, romance is the way to go...pays around $2000/wk x 6 weeks.

It could very well be that romance is better than children's books if done correctly, but I wrote children's books so I could easily get the wishes for reading amounts of books and write amounts of books (even though I squeezed in a romance novel or later a masterpiece every now and then to get one of the wishes for amount of money for one book)

Some notes:
Note 1: I don't have ambitions, so I can't be self-employed (and I also don't know how it really works :P)
Note 2: My data isn't that accurate, and probably also not maximized, maybe in the future I'll make some real notes and calculations so  can give more accurate results.
Note 3: If we want to know which books are most effective we probably need a writer for each type of book that could be the best (children's, romance and masterpiece mostly, probably). I could gather some data for children's books, but someone else has to do the other two genres. (also, if I gather data for children's books, keep in mind I'm still a noob, and I probably don't know what is the absolute best way to write the highest possible amount of books each day)

Hopefully this post was helpful :),

The Children's Books genre is awesome. I have no doubt the Masterpieces and Romance novels are still better moneymakers, but if you're trying to get those enormous "Read 50 Books" and "Write 50 Books" wishes at the same time for more happiness points — and who doesn't want more happiness points, forget those two genres. They're simply too time consuming. I plan on doing the Children's Books data soon.

There is absolutely no doubt that your data will be more valuable than mine. xD
Oh, I would also like to add that, in theory, making masterpieces is the best money maker according to the guide (especially when you are specialized in it).

The money (for 6 weeks) per page base ratios are as follows:
Masterpieces        -      6.5
Children's books    -      4.3
Romances            -      4.6
Vaudeville            -      4.8

If you need information for more genres you should go to http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/skills/writing/book-type-list.php
and then divide the average royalty check with the average amount of pages.

My method will not have the best ratio $/hours but it has the advantage of give a permanent additional income source.

I named it "Karate Kid Mummy".

In my previous game, I give me as objective to have a Mummy at home.  I use the King sarcophagus + relic method (it was a cool objective when tomb raiding in Egypt to find the good items).
After that, my mummy completed the 60 hours of strength training and became immune to "fatigue" effect.
The last step was to break enough stuff with martial art to be able to break space rock blocks and give random gems.

As a mummy, he doesn't need sleep and with the other stuff, my mummy was able to break space rock blocks 24/7 (and totally immortal with Ambrosia) and he gives me a large number of pink diamond (about 10K $ Heart shaped cut) , soulpieces (same as pink diamond) and tiberium gems.  Tiberium was the most important income if obtained when on trip out of town (it just required to be but uncut in my garden in order to growth).

The very large amount of gem produced by my Karate Kid mummy gives me the opportunity to "play" with gem transfiguration a lot ^^

Hope it can help

That's a pretty interesting money-making scheme, Shalmanasar.  :D

I suspect a "Karate Kid Mummy" chopping space rocks for 20 hours and then "transfiguring" the gems in the remaining 4 might be a VERY high ratio of "hours worked / income" over a few days.

I thought this was a race or something to see who can make the best money out of things in The Sims 3. If so, I thought I had already won with my million dollar nectar thingy. :P
