Tricks and Treats

Tricks and Treats

Goal
The tricks here are the ones that your dog(s) learn, and the treats are the joy you experience when your dog learns not to wake you up, not to roll in puddles, play in trash, etc. You'll also be dispensing quite a few dog treats along the way. The challenge ends when your YA Sim becomes an adult. Does your Sim have what it takes to be a dog whisperer? Sit...Sit...Sit...Good job!

General Challenge Rules
The General Challenge Rules always apply.

Specific Challenge Rules
  • In CAS, create one Young Adult Human or Alien Sim.
  • This challenge will require the Cats and Dogs Expansion Pack.
  • The Seasons Expansion Pack is banned for this event.
  • You are allowed to use the Buydebug cheat to purchase a satellite to prevent abductions.
  • Only adult dogs may be added to the household.
  • Once a dog is taken into the household, it may not leave.
  • Your Sim may have 3 dogs at a time brought to the household for inspection (at least one dog must be adopted).
  • Your Sim may also adopt strays.
  • Pets must be taken to a vet if they are sick and must be spayed or neutered.
  • Age-related pet treats are banned.
  • The challenge ends when your Sim becomes an Adult.

Scoring

Total. Each trick learned by a dog counts as 2 points. Look under "Trained Commands" to find out what tricks your dog has mastered. Do not count the "Attack" command. Each good behavior (learning to pee outside, learning not to bark, etc.) counts as 1 point. You'll get a notification each time your dog learns something, but you'll have to keep track. 10 points are deducted for any dog that is taken back by animal control.

So, for your Total when you post your score make sure to show all the Trick and Behavior points for each dog.

Ch-Ch-Changes
The team does not want to edit and make changes to the ruleset once this event goes live, but we may have to. If an exploit is brought to our attention or we discover something else we reserve the right to ask affected players to redo their effort.

Have Questions?
Please think hard before you ask in the challenge thread because it may be strategy. What you may consider an innocent question could cause another player to go — “oh, I did not think of doing that.” It’s always safer to PM everyone on the team (Metro, sdhoey, LenaLJ, and MarianT) for clarifications. Thanks.

And the Winner is...
After this event has closed everyone is encouraged to discuss how they approached the event, but the winner especially is expected to do so in detail.

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh... I am not a dog person, I'm a cat person. Still, it wouldn't hurt to challenge myself.  8)

Given the timing of the release, is it correct that Seasons content will be banned from this event?

Hmmm...good point. There might not be any reason to...no unfair advantages introduced, but better safe than sorry. Thanks, GlazeyLady.

Doubled the penalty if Animal Control takes away your pooch...

10 points are deducted for any dog that is taken back by animal control.

I'm really excited because I just got this pack, and this is the first challenge I have time to participate in for a very long time.
I have one question so far:
Am I correct in assuming that the rule that pets must be taken to the vet when sick means we can't treat them ourselves (using our own vet skill) either at home or at our own vet clinic? And that spay/neutering must also be done at the vet that comes with the game?

I suppose if your Sim is qualified as a vet, your dog(s) could be treated at home. The main thing is that they get treated.

What about tricks the pet know before being adopted? Do we count them? I just had a case in my practice file.

Yes, but just to give everyone a reminder -- all dogs stay in the household. Do not abuse the situation if you do happen to get lucky and reroll your scoring file, etc without saving in hopes of getting a different outcome.

What about the "attack" command? Do we count it?

The "Attack" command shows up under the trained commands, so I am assuming it is already part of the dog naturally. Because I tested it and when he "attacked" he was lectured. But we can see what the others feel about it.

In my test file I've just had the pet adoption lady turn up without the pets - can I end the adoption process and try again?

ETA - Don't bother, the pets turned up once I had unlocked the front door!

The "attack" command seems tied to the owner reaching a level in dog training, it's not a trick the dog learn, but it shows up for every dog owned once the sim get the right level.

Tricks (without attack) : 56 learned (63 with attack) so 112 points (or 126 with attack)
Behaviors : 20 for 20 points

Total : 132 points. (or 146)
