You're very brave writing a story from a challenge you played some months ago! If I don't document as I go it's forgotten within a week! Liam as a toddler is really quite adorable.

This is exciting. And I hope it turns out well! Raising great kids is always the goal, but to do it from a fresh start always puts pressure on expanding the house and buying the stuff required. I feel like a daredevil with the stove. I gladly start off with the cheap Yum Cooker, and let 'em at it without any skill. And Joe was totally fine!
It is a little thing of my own. I call it "Heart Foam". I shall not publish it. Farewell! Patience, Patience, farewell!

Jenna's game face is spectacular, especially when juxtaposed with Joe's panic! What a cutie Liam is! I love his chubby cheeks. I'm excited for the incoming sibling, too. Your family seems to be doing great!

Okay, I think I might have figured out how to quote multiple comments.

Haha, I loved Jenna's game face when she went into labor! The lady means business!
Liam is simply adorable, taking after his mother with his darker skintone and red hair. He's gorgeous!
Thanks for sharing the shot of the TS4 cover. Joe seemed so familiar and yet I couldn't place why.
Woooo, another nooboo! Looking forward to seeing more of Liam (and his parents, of course). :D
Yeah, Jenna's faces were great.  And I liked Liam's skintone and hair combo, too.

Aww, how cute!!  I hadn't realized you'd started this.  They're a very sweet little family and I'm looking forward to seeing more of how the genetics play out as little Liam gets older  :=)
Thanks for dropping by!  Looking forward to hearing who you think Liam resembles as he gets older.

Liam is a cutie. As for your starting Sim, I've noticed that new Sims seem to be the ones on the cover plus a couple more. Good luck to Joe and Jenna!
Thanks!  And now that I've started paying attention, I've definitely seen some familiar faces in CAS and amongst my townies.

Awww, Liam is just adorable.  So cute. bwahahahaha, love the parental panic.  And Jenna's just like, "Nope I got this!"
Jenna was just so awesome!  But I give props to Joe, too, for having his panic attack at the right moment for best comedic effect.

Thanks for reading!  I forget things quickly, too, but I had a lot of notes on this one because I was still trying to figure things out.

Starting from scratch is my favorite, too.  You are truly brave with the stove.  Fortunately for me, Jenna proved to be a much more competent cook.

Thanks!  That pic of Jenna is one of my faves.  I only regret that the lighting is terrible since luxuries like lamps were scarce at that point in the challenge.

Yep, Liam's too cute to just sit in my gallery.  You'll see him again.  ;)

Toddlers!

Wow…that happened fast! Well, yes. It did. Since it took a couple of tries for Joe and Jenna to conceive the first time, they decided to try again right away after Liam was born. They aren’t getting any younger, after all.  But this time around they got pregnant on the first try, and Jenna took the pregnancy test immediately (just in case) so she started showing early.

Why would Jenna and Joe choose to have another baby when the Wonder Child is supposed to be the primary focus of their lives from now on? Several reasons. First, a sibling can actually provide a lot of support to a Wonder Child. The sibling is another person to talk to, play with, and skill with. Also, not to get too Cinderella about it, but a sibling is another Sim in the house that can mop the floor or pick up dirty dishes. Furthermore, another pregnancy will delay Jenna’s aging again, giving her more time to raise the Wonder Child.

Most importantly, siblings are fun!  Nooboos are cute!  Let’s stop talking strategy and enjoy the fact that another baby is on the way!

4a Pregnant again.jpg

Now seems like a good time to pause and show a picture of the Murray’s house so far.

4p house.jpg

Clockwise from the top right we have: Liam’s room, the main bathroom, Joe and Jenna’s room, and the office.  All of Joe’s “focusing” career rewards go in the office and it’s over-sized for future growth.  Continuing clockwise is the entryway where the musical instruments seem to have landed, a half bathroom, the kitchen, breakfast nook, Jenna’s painting area, and the beginnings of a home gym (top middle).  Finally, in the center is a living room.  It’s not the prettiest house ever, but it is very functional and works great for this family.

Now back to Liam, our Wonder Child.  His parents have earned enough money at this point to buy him everything he needs:  a toddler bed, toys, blocks, dollhouse, giant stuff animal, even the toddler tablet.  They skip the high chair, however, because it seems to just induce toddler tantrums.  Besides, there’s nothing more adorable than a toddler sitting on the couch eating spaghetti with his hands.

4b spaghetti.jpg

Jenna and Joe spend lots of time playing with their son and attending to his needs, but they also let Liam explore on his own, too.  This is where Liam’s inquisitive nature serves him well.  Here he is enjoying one of his favorite books, Dog on a Log.  Apparently, the story involves a Sea Monster.  Who knew?  Titles can be so misleading.

4c Liam reads.jpg

Another unexpected benefit to Jenna getting pregnant again right away is that Jenna and Joe are able to stack their family leave time.  Right when their time-off from Liam’s birth runs out, they become eligible to take family leave for the second pregnancy.  The result is that both parents enjoy about a week’s worth of pay without ever having to leave for work.  Sweet!

Whenever Jenna and Joe are not directly taking care of Liam or cleaning the house, they use their extra time wisely to gain skills.  Jenna is still focusing on painting, cooking, and gardening; but she has also taken up playing the violin.

4d Jenna violin.jpg

As you can maybe tell from the glimpse of Joe in the background above, he has started working out.  It may or may not help him live a longer life, but it can’t hurt.  Thus, in addition to working on his programming, video gaming, and handiness skills, Joe has started using the treadmill as much as possible.

4e Joe treadmill.jpg

Before long it’s time to meet Jenna and Joe’s second bundle of joy.  This time Jenna opts to have the baby at home because she doesn’t want to send Liam to daycare, even for just a few hours.  She gives birth in the breakfast nook because that’s where the bassinet appeared.

Note:  Money is still a little tight so I didn’t buy the bassinet ahead of time, but just let Social Services provide it.

4f Leo birth.jpg

It’s another boy—a baby brother for the Wonder Child!  His name is Leo which makes this “Lion King” type picture below oddly appropriate.  Honestly, though, I did not pick the name ahead of time.  Leo just seemed to go well with Liam, and it’s the first thing that popped into my head.

4g Lion King.jpg

Jenna is pretty tired after giving birth so after a few cuddles with the new baby, she heads to bed for some well-deserved rest.  Joe steps up and handles Leo’s first feeding.

4h Joe Leo.jpg

After feeding the baby and rocking him to sleep, it’s time for Joe to put big brother Liam to bed.  At this point, Liam is not sure what to think of this whole sibling thing.  The look on his face is precious.

4i Liam unsure.jpg

Leo does not get aged-up to a toddler early because it seems far easier for the parents to take care of one toddler and an infant rather than two toddlers at the same time.
While Leo is still confined to the bassinet, Joe and Jenna do everything in their power to make sure that the Wonder Child maxes all of his toddler skills.

4j toddler skills.jpg

One result of this concentrated focus on Liam is that no one is there to greet poor Leo when he pops out of the bassinet.  Sorry, buddy.  Such is the life of the second child.

Don’t feel too bad for young Leo, though.  The Watcher is looking out for him and gives him the Independent trait as a toddler.  He’s going to need it.

4k Leo bassinet.jpg

The way the timing works out, Liam and Leo have one day in which they are both toddlers.  By now, big brother Liam has decided that he loves his sibling.  He is excited to finally be able to give his little brother a hug.   Awwww!

4l toddler hug.jpg

Jenna, realizing that her firstborn will be aging-up to a child soon, is inspired to paint Liam’s portrait.  As luck would have it, the painting turns out to be the masterpiece that Jenna needs to complete the Painter Extraordinaire aspiration.  Great job, Jenna!

4m toddler portrait.jpg

Liam’s last day as a toddler is spent frantically trying to achieve Top Notch Toddler.  He mastered the Potty skill early on, and his Thinking and Imagination are in good shape.  However, his Communication and Movement skills still need work even after the birthday notice arrives.

Somehow, Liam does it.  He maxes all the Toddler skills.  It’s close, though.  Liam achieves level 5 in his Movement skill with just a few hours to spare.  Joe quickly throws together a birthday party, and Jenna helps Liam blow out the candles right away.

I’ve since learned a lot about toddler skilling, but at the time, this was a first for me.

4n toddler cake.jpg

Liam’s energy level is in the red when the party starts; but as soon as he ages up to a child, he is able to drink a sleep replacement potion.   Feeling refreshed, Liam enjoys the remainder of his birthday party.  The party even earns a gold medal.  Luckily, all the tasks are really easy ones such as “listen to music,” “eat food,” and “eat cake.”

Don’t worry.  Liam will never wear this sweater ever again.

Aww, such a cute little family of four!  I definitely agree with the logic of having the second child as the built-in skilling companion.
The house is lovely!  I really like the open design of it.  The spaces feel clearly designated, yet altogether.  It probably made taking screenshots way easier too  ;=)
Looking forward to seeing the adventures of the child-aged wonder child!!

What a great portrait of the Wonder Child! And a masterpiece to boot!
I think the house looks great, and ideal for bringing up kids.
I love the kids' matching names, and the shot of them hugging. D'aawww!
And maybe the dog is on a log floating in the ocean . . . or something? Or maybe Liam just doesn't know how to read very well yet. Either way, very much looking forward to his childhood (and revamped wardrobe)!

I agree with Pippin that the spaciousness of your house plan is very nice!
You know that when it's time to take a screenshot, the sims will always find the most cramped part of the house to do whatever it is you want to capture!

Congrats on your first of many Top-Notch Toddlers! What a wonderful shot of Liam's last day as a toddler!
The toddlers look so happy in their hug shot!
Looking forward to Liam's childhood days!

Thanks guys!  And it's true.  The reason the rooms are over-sized is for the purpose of taking screenshots.  I hadn't yet learned about the tab key, and I think my graphics were set on medium, but I'm learning!

Toddler spam is the best!  Whenever I have two toddlers in the house, I always try to get a screenshot of them hugging.  It's one of my all-time favorite Sims interactions.

Liam's childhood: Part 1 coming up in the next post.

No Rest for the Weary

After a quick make-over to change his clothes, here is Liam newly aged-up to a child.
5a CAS child.jpg
Liam’s first aspiration is Artistic Prodigy (but that is allowed to change as necessary).  His childhood trait is Creative.

The family returns home from Liam’s birthday party, and everyone but Liam goes straight to bed.  As a Wonder Child, Liam won’t be doing much sleeping. He’s got a whole new set of skills to work on.  First up, drawing pictures at the art table.

5b art table.jpg

A few pictures and half a jar of glitter later, Liam switches gears and practices typing for a while.

5c typing.jpg

Note: It is at this point that I realize a minor mistake on my part regarding the timing of Liam’s child birthday.  Liam aged-up late on a Friday night which means that he won’t go to school until Monday morning.  Normally, this wouldn’t matter, but one of the things you earn points for in the Wonder Child Challenge is the number of days left in childhood when the child achieves an A in school.  Liam won’t even be starting school for two more days.  Oh well.  I’m more concerned with setting up Liam for his next challenge than I am with points, anyway.

Joe decides to take the next day off from work to stay home with the boys.  He and Liam knock out the ‘play three games of chess’ requirement of the Whiz Kid Aspiration.  Joe is a genius and his logic skill is pretty high, but it looks like Liam is already giving his Dad a run for his money.

5d chess game.jpg

When Jenna comes home from work, she helps Liam with his homework (yes, he has homework even though he has yet to attend school).  Then, she reads to him before dinner.  Liam loves how his mom really gets into the story.

5e reading.jpg

After dinner, Liam and Leo play with toys in their room.  It’s times like this when it’s nice for a Wonder Child to have a younger brother.  All-in-all, Liam’s first day as a child has been a really good one.

5f brothers toys.jpg

The rest of the family goes to bed, but not Liam.  His parents have provided him with an almost endless supply of Sleep Replacement potions and Moodlet Solvers to keep him going.

5g sleep replacement.jpg

The rest of the weekend passes by in much the same way as it started—with family time and building skills.  Before long, it’s time for Liam’s first day of school.  Liam studies hard and comes home with a “B” average and a new friend!  Liam and his friend, Nathaniel, sit down at the chess table, but neither of them really concentrates on the game.  They mostly just talk about grilled cheese and make jokes about toilets.

5h friend chess.jpg

The next day, Liam comes home from school as an “A” student.  Great job, Liam!  He still has 9 days left of childhood, and he’s already aced school.

5i child A.jpg

Liam’s friend, Nathaniel comes over again after school, and the boys play in the backyard.  Liam shows off on the monkey bars while his friend prefers playing with the dollhouse.

5j monkey bars.jpg

Liam goes to school again on Wednesday just to make sure that he doesn’t lose his “A”, but on Thursday his parents let him take a vacation day.  It’s Joe’s birthday, and the whole family travels to the park for the first time.  Jenna takes Leo over to the pond to look at fish and try to catch frogs.

5k pond.jpg

Joe and Liam head over to the playground where Liam makes a new friend and Joe plays space monster for them.

5l spaceship.jpg

After a fun day at the park, the family heads home to continue Joe’s birthday celebration.  Jenna makes Joe his favorite chocolate cake and manages to get the birthday candles lit before anyone swipes a piece.

5m Joe cake.jpg

Joe gets a quick wardrobe change after becoming an elder. Jenna approves.

5n Joe elder.jpg

Liam and his dad celebrate the occasion with a selfie.

5o selfie.jpg

In the middle of all the festivities, Leo’s birthday notification also pops up so Jenna adds more candles to the cake and the family celebrates Leo’s birthday as well.  I don’t have a good picture of Leo aging up, but here’s one with the two birthday Sims enjoying their cake together.

5p birthday boys.jpg

Up next:  Four cakes for two birthdays and Liam plays hookie

I know it's supposed to be about the wonder child, but can we just take a moment to enjoy what a dapper elder Joe has become?
Liam and Leo playing toys was a nice moment of the wonder child simply being a kid and I really enjoyed that.  I think we sometimes get too caught up in the goals of challenges/legacies/dynasties so it's important that we take those moments to let the Sims be interesting people too.  Good call there, Watcher  ;=)

Nice job getting that A grade in just two days, Liam!
I, too, like Joe's senior wardrobe. He looks quite distinguished and very different from the Joe who frequently pops up in my CAS menu!

Liam, his family, and their Watcher are doing great!
