From A to Z: A Life States Dynasty--graveyard please
« on: February 25, 2018, 09:52:41 PM »
I'm not sure how much storytelling I'll be able to do, but I'd at least like to document this one as I go.

Meet the parents!

Andy Claiborne

Zenobia Claiborne

Andy and Zenobia started their new life in Oasis Springs on the Sandtrap Flat lot. Andy quickly completed his first aspiration, The Curator, and Zenobia was not far behind in completing Painter Extraordinaire. Andy used 3000 satisfaction points to get the Connections reward and went to work in the Science career for one day, just long enough to invent a Sim Ray and a Satellite dish. Zenobia purchased Marketable in order to increase the value of her paintings.

Both parents switched to the Super Parent aspiration. Although Andy tried to contact aliens, his attempt was unsuccessful. He and Zenobia successfully tried for baby and adopted Bonnie, Yardley, and Cameron. A couple of days later, the twins Xavier and Deirdre were born. They skipped the Wishing Well this round because they had quite a lot of happy moodlets stacked up and didn't want to risk becoming mortified if the Well gave them the infertile outcome.

Once the children came, it was soon apparent that their current lot would be much too small, so the Claibornes waited until after they paid their bills and then evicted their neighbor, Johnny Zest, and built a fairly large house on that lot. They think they will stay put for the rest of the Dynasty since moving house is a bit of a hassle.

The first group of kids:

Bonnie

Bonnie, like the rest of her siblings, was able to age up early after she maxed Potty training and had level three in all of the toddler skills. She chose to become a Whiz Kid and is a neat Sim. She hopes to be a vampire when she grows up.

Yardley

Yardley also chose Whiz Kid as his aspiration. He hasn't been very argumentative yet (despite having the Hot-headed trait) because he has been too busy working on his grades and aspiration. He hopes that when he becomes a teen he can start studying witchcraft.

Cameron

Cameron loves art and chose that pursuit as his aspiration. He isn't really interested in becoming any sort of creature so he will likely stay human.

Xavier

Xavier inherired his mother's skintone and Fairy genetics. He completed his Social Butterfly aspiration very quickly since he doesn't have schoolwork to worry about. He's now working on maxing two other child skills so he can grow up as soon as possible.

Deirdre

Like Cameron, Deirdre is an artist at heart. She also has no desire to be anything other than human at this time. Being the baby of the family has forced her into the background for now as her Watcher is busy with the other kids. She'll get her moment to shine soon enough.

**Note: the babies were aged up early after becoming Good Friends with both of their parents.

I'm very excited that you've started this dynasty challenge!
And another clever naming scheme, I see, alternately choosing A-to-Z or Z-to-A names!
Since you plan to have the household stay put on a 40x30 lot, I look forward to see your kids growing up and moving out like lightning.

Looking forward to your next update! Yay!
Oops. Did you plan to reserve this post for your chapter links? Feel free to tell me to remove the post. I'll just post again later. :)

Beautifull parents, and also children.
Looking forward to follow your attempt.
And now i am not the only one making more of a documentary than a story :)
And really liking the naming theme too.

They are lovely children. My only advice on Yardley is to not try and teach him to say sorry. Good luck!

@MarianT I almost never even bother with that since other traits are so much easier to get. In my regular games, the only trait I focus on is Responsible for the great career benefits. I do have a question, though. At what point would you lose a kid for bad grades? Xavier's grade bar is at "OK" right now, but it's really close to dropping below that. It's the weekend now and I am trying to get him to max Movement and Creativity so I can grow him up before Monday, but I've never had a kid have bad grades before and it's making me kind of nervous.

@oshizu I hate large lots, so I always try to get away with the smallest lot possible for my purposes. 40X30 is plenty big enough, even for a large family.

You can let him go to school a couple of times. He doesn't need to have a high irresponsibility score until he goes from teen to YA, and it's easier to lose responsibility points then. My fairies went to school enough to keep a C average, but they made a lot of messes which their responsible siblings had to clean up.

I figured I'd let him go to school on Monday if he doesn't grow up. I also planned to let the fairies go to school a couple of times going forward. Thanks for responding.

What a gorgeously colorful family! This challenge is so fascinating. I'm really enjoying reading about what you're doing! The names are wonderfully clever, too.

Well, I did something rather stupid. I was really working hard on getting Yardley's Argumentative trait and after lots of arguing, three fights, and a declared enemy, he got it. I rushed him home, had him blow out his candles, and then realized I'd forgotten to buy his two remaining reward traits. So, a big FAIL on this attempt.

@MarianT please graveyard this one. I'll be back soon with a second attempt. Gah.

It's always so difficult to start a new dynasty because internalizing all the rules takes a while.
I'm really sorry to hear about your misstep with Yardley. :(

But I'm overjoyed to hear that you'll be back! Looking forward to reading about how you start up the second time.
Well, honestly, I just enjoy reading about anything you're up to, reggikko.

@oshizu I have an idea that just might lead to an actual story, too. I learned some stuff and know what I want to do differently, so it's not a total loss.
