Opaque walls/invisable items bug
« on: February 04, 2018, 03:21:50 PM »
Hey everyone, I'm new to these forums but came across a bug I was hoping someone had a solution for. On my latest save I was in my house when all of a a sudden, I could only see the outside. If I zoom inside, it just shows the basic layout with no items inside are visible. Build mode makes everything appear properly, but switching back to Live the problem remains. On the first instance I just sold the house and rebuilt elsewhere but the bug has reoccurred on my new property. The bare walls in the screenshots are accurate, I hadn't selected those yet.

Neither PgUp/PgDn or Home/End change anything, I've restarted the game and the Origin client, repaired the download, reinstalled the game but the problem still exists when I load up the save.

If it's relevant, I have: Get to Work, Outdoor Retreat, Perfect Patio, Holiday Celebration

System specs are:
Win 10
GTX 1060
16 GB Ram
Ryzen 5 1500x

If you haven't already, try the following tips:

1. Move the mods folder to desktop (for testing purposes) - This is to fully make sure it's not outdated mods/cc or some hidden files in the Mods folder. - Read more in the post linked below:

How to Fix Problems with Mods/CC
http://www.carls-sims-4-guide.com/forum/index.php?topic=25031.msg426156#msg426156

We recently received a new game patch that has made some game mods and custom content become outdated. You need to go through your mods folder to see what needs to be updated.

2. Delete Game Cache Files (What and How-To)
http://www.carls-sims-4-guide.com/forum/index.php?topic=21899.msg401662#msg401662

The localthumbcache.package can be found in the main Sims 4 folder
C:\Users\Username\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4

3. Repair Game  - In Origin, right-click on Sims 4 and select Repair. - Do note  this repairs the game's install files. It does not make any changes to the saved game files. - Saved games are safe - won't be deleted.

4. Try a Sims 4 factory reset and a new game save without mods/cc.

If none of the above help, you may want to report the issue to Answers HQ

This might seem a weird question but is your sim visiting the lot and you accessed build mode from the map menu?

Or is the sim living on this lot, you bought it empty, your sim moved there and then you went into build mode while actively playing your sim who was on the lot?

@Playlot it's the second option, I bought it then built after moving there. The bug also appeared on my starter lot just after finishing with CAS but both occurrences were several hours of gameplay in, not right away.

I have now tried all four of those options, and the bug still remains on my current save. I might have to create a new game and see if it happens again but it will probably be several irl days before I can get it to reproduce if at all. As I said above, it's only happened after a fair amount of gameplay.

It may be a good idea to see if you can recreate the bug in a new game save. If that doesn't help, you may need to post about the issue to answers HQ with the link provided in my last post as it maybe a bug or issue that the devs need to look at.

The only other thing I can think of is there was a glitch like this when a sim was in the Detective Career.

My first career was the detective branch, so maybe it's connected. I was on a non-get to work career when the second glitch occurred, but it could be a remnant of that.

Oh..that is what has corrupted your save and unfortunately it will spread to all your other saves if you exit to the main menu instead of quitting all together.

It sounds like you will need to delete all the lots from your library and your saves and delete the sim that was in the detective career, then delete the localthumbcache.package file from your The Sims 4 folder.

A factory reset is also advisable as is a Game repair. Once you start a new game after this the bug should not appear again. I don't know why this happens to some people, I've played the detective career often and never had this occur so chances are it woun't happen to you again if you clean up thoroughly.

It's really important that your game is up to date with the latest patch as this bug fix was included in a patch some time ago.
