I just got back from vacation, so, now, I've uploaded my house and my park from challenge 2.  Please turn on moo for both of my lots, as well  !

Color Me Beautiful

A Beach Build with a difference. Every color in the rainbow is beautiful but this time you're only allowed to pick 3. One Major Color and two Minor Colors to be exact.  Sounds easy? Well there's a catch; every time you use a Minor Color it will cost you simoleons over and above the build cost.

I have a question.  Can we make one file for this year's build challenge?  Or do we have to create a separate file for each build?

Challenge #3 seems very, well, challenging, lol!
I'm excited about it, even though I'd never heard of Dutch Colonial Architecture before reading the challenge rules.

The color-based budget restrictions sound wicked. What a fantastic challenge!

@Shewolf13  one file for all the challenges is fine, just make sure that all lots are bulldozed before building on them etc. etc and all that. 

@oshizu  If you have Cats and Dogs then you'll have been looking at Dutch Colonial Architecture without realizing as that is what many of the houses are modeled off. Especially in the Cavalier Cove and Sable Square neighborhoods.  I had to research it to discover what the actual style was called as we don't have buildings like this at all in New Zealand, but I've always thought the houses in Brindleton Bay looked very pretty so hopefully they should be fun to build for everyone.

I have a couple of questions on building challenge #3:

1.  Are construction type items (i.e. doors, windows, roofs) included in the color restrictions?

2.  When using secondary color flooring (and wall coverings) do we charge the penalty per "tile" or per room? Example: A room needs 9 tiles of flooring, is it $125 total for that room or 9 x $125?

Sorry about the delay in my reply! I've been unwell recently so not quite able to check the forum every day as normal.

1. Yes construction items windows and doors and so on are included in the color restrictions.
2. For rooms color is by wall for paint/wallpaper etc but a complete rooms floor would be considered one use of a minor color.

So to use your example; your room of 9 tiles would be only one use of minor color costing you $125 total.
If you wanted to color the walls of that same room in one of your minor colors that would be 4 uses of minor color costing you 4x$125=$500.

What's the Personal Final Budget?

I know the amount of my final save cost to my library.

I don't know if I can explain it better than how Play explained it in her example so I'm just going to quote her example:

Example: Budget = $98,875 as 9 Minor Colored items were used (Starting budget of 100,000 - 9 penalty costs of $125.00 = 100,000-1,125=98,875. Therefore your Personal Final Budget is $98,875).
Cost of Final Build = $98,850 (as you didn't manage to use 100% of your allowed Personal Final Budget).

I hope you've been feeling better lately.

I have another question about Build Challenge #3.
How do I calculate the use of roof trim in a minor color? Do I subtract $125 for each click?
Or does it not matter since roofing materials are free?
