Culling and Tombstones
« on: December 25, 2017, 07:52:42 PM »
Apologies if this is in the wrong section.  I thought since it was more game itself, even though the patch it comes from is the one for Cats & Dogs, it should go here.  If I'm wrong, I would love if a mod could move it.  Thank you!

Ok, so I haven't had a chance to do any testing with this to get the answer myself and haven't really been able to find much on this else where.  With the new culling rules and being able to favorite families, etc, can anyone tell me if houses you've played and/or favorited, are the tombstones kept in world, even if it wasn't the active household at the time?  I ask because I am interested in being able to do a town graveyard for some of my for-fun games.

This post here should explain it all I think.  :) New Culling mechanics let me know if it doesn't.

Also the new tombstones and culling came in a free patch to everyone so not just for those who have Cats and Dogs so yep, your post is in the correct place as it is a general game play question.

I can definitely answer yes. My active Sim had moved out of the Goth household, but I did make it a favorite when she left. When Cassandra and Alexander died, their urns were in the front hall.

@Playalot

Thanks so much!  That does answer it!  Oops... apparently my Google-foo is worse than normal XD Must not have put in the right words because when I searched, that post didn't come up.

@MarianT

Thanks!  I have a question, is this something we are allowed to do in our dynasties?  Save households to my favorites?  I want to keep family trees intact, really.  Though I suppose it isn't fair in that it keeps Sims from being culled?

You don't happen to know if there is a way to get to a tombstone in a now empty apartment is there?  In my Ten Gen Townie Dynasty, the apartment my founder occupied is now empty as the founder passed away.  I want to be able to go and get the urn, but I can't because no one lives there right now.  Is there a way around this?

The only way I know is to manually move someone in or have 'fill empty houses' checked and hope the game someone moves in.

Bummer, was afraid of that.  Unfortunately, it's a dynasty, so I can't do the first XD So looks like the second :/

If you have previously visited the lot there is a small chance that the walls may be down so I'd take a sim over just in case.

The ghost of my dynasty founder phoned her heir to ask if he wanted to come over to visit.
He rushed over and found her urn in the foyer right in front of the front door to her apartment (where the Karaoke Legends live) in San Myshuno.

Since the urn's in the foyer rather than in the apartment, I'll never be able to retrieve it, will I?

You should still be able to interact with the urn. Have you tried clicking on it?

@Playalot

Yes, I tried... a lot, lol.
I got all the interaction options except the "Put in inventory" one.
It's weird because I remember being able to retrieve urns on the beach or stream outside of the Oakenstead lot.
I just strengthened the founder's physical connection to the world then left her urn there.

I tried.  Sadly, the walls were up.  Oh well, may visit it again later, just to see.

@oshizu  exactly, you used to be able to do all the interactions on the urns regardless of what lot type they were on. Weird.

@Shewolf13  rats, it was a bit of a long-shot but still worth the gamble.

Yeah, I'll keep at it.  Hopefully, someone will move in.  Just kind of a bummer.  The founding spouse is in the family graveyard, but now I can't put the founder there!  I was so excited to learn that you can find the urns of those in the family, now I'm just kinda bummed since I've been thwarted yet again XD

Wolfie, the exact same thing happened to me! I have the founder's spouse's urn but can't collect the founder's gravestone. *sniffle, sniffle
Crossing my fingers for you that someone moves into Diego's apartment real soon!
