Valdy Vampiry finished after 11746 minutes. And I learned a ton about vampires!

- Kirstie

Awesome. :) I did too, actually. I do not normally choose them as a life state.

It's fun to be a spectator too in these final hours with a couple major threats still looming -- LenaLJ and lesleyj42. Will they throw down crazy scores and take Rainbow Dash's first win away? *grabs some popcorn and eagerly waits...*

@oshizu Don't worry, I keep copies of all of the Sims I make for challenges and such, and they live happy alternate universe lives in an emptied world that's populated with just them. It's actually rather entertaining to see what they choose to do with their autonomous, unrestricted lives.

This is a great idea for other players. :)

OK,  sorry for being very late to the game. But day-to-day business had me sink my teeth into that instead of some more bloodier work....

Elvira Nightchild finished with the puny 34098 minutes. Much due to the fact that I rarely ever plan these things :-) I just DO  them :-D Hence a few nasty surprises along the road! But it has been great fun. Can't imagine myself playing vampires for a while though.

He finished on Tuesday 11:18 PM in the first week.
That ended up in 3798 minutes

Just finished, lost track of time for awhile and had to catch up quick. Unfortunately I didn't get the greatest practice or I would have done better but we finished at 3rd week Monday with 22353 minutes total. I learned a ton about vampires though that's for sure :)

It's certainly neck and neck that's for sure. Move over Metro, I need that popcorn more than you do right now. *Steals popcorn and stares at the leader board nervously*

Lol. Indeed. Well, lesleyj42 lives in South Carolina, so the 21st has come and gone for her. I guess she did not have time for this one. So...

This event is officially closed.

It's always great to see so many new players at the start of a new Tournament season. Let's give a big round of applause for our new forumers and Tournament participants. 39 total participants with many of those first-timers. Woot. :)

So, this first event of the season was all about vampires -- namely getting to Grandmaster level and turning 13 vampires and curing them as quickly as possible. We have never done a vampire event before so it was definitely time to do so. Special thanks as always to team member, LenaLJ, who came up with a great little spreadsheet that automatically calculated how many minutes it took players to have their vampires finish all the requirements.

First of all, let me just say that this dad knows his My Little Ponies, so when forumer Rainbow Dash posted her great score I could not resist in grabbing my youngest girl and showing her the name. She grinned. I am down with Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, and all the others. Lol. All 3 of my girls went through My Little Pony obsessions and we still have an entire tub full of them in our basement.

Back to the business at hand. Rainbow Dash is not new to the forum, she registered back in January of 2012, but only started playing Tournament challenges at the start of the 2017 season with the New Year's Resolution. She did great and finished 3rd. But, then she basically did not participate the rest of the year because I see that she did not make the 2017 World Ranking.

Congratulations, Rainbow Dash, on your first Tournament win. I look forward to your detailed strategy. My special thanks, to all participants. It's the start of a great 2018 season.

Congrats @Rainbow Dash on your first win.  I was so so close, but I made a mistake that cost me a couple hours at the end, but that is how it is.

Before starting the challenge, I had several questions I had to test out in game which answers greatly helped me.  First of all, a dark form isn't required, so they saves a lot of time whenever a vamp turns someone, drinks, spars, etc.  Secondly, I had to find out if it was quicker to grow the plants needed, or to just make the money.  It was definitely faster to make the money and buy the seeds from the computer.  A total of 74,750 simoleons where needed to make all the potions, and I had to use photography for that.

So, basically this is what my lovely vamp did.  The first day, she read the vampire lore books until she purchased all 3 vampire energy and the vampire creation power.  Turning sims takes a lot of energy, so it was important that she could do it with as little rest as possible.  So around 7pm of the first day, she traveled to the dance club in Windenberg. (discothepan or whatever) There, she was able to turn 10 sims, using one dark meditation between them.  At that time, she returned home to sleep in her coffin until her energy was about half full and traveled to the roomies house.  There were 4 sims there, 3 to turn, and one to feed off of.  It was around 5 am when all the turning was complete.  When done, she returned home and finished reading off the last vampire lore book.  Throughout the day, I switched her aspirations back and forth through the vampire ones, and she did buy one award, and that is savant.

So, after the exciting night biting sims, she had a very, very dull day ahead of her and that was to make the $74750.  Had no choice, it had to be photography.  The two hours of my life that was doing that, I couldn't help but think, the things I do for challenges.  So, once all the seeds were bought and opened, she had to make all the drinks.  Then she was ready to cure and spar 13 vampires, just as night fall approached.  She went across the street to Caleb and Lilith's house, and they were the first she spared and cured.  Also, before the curing began, she bought the vampire strength power, all three tiers.  Then, to give the townies she turned a little more time, she also ran into Vlad and three other randomly generated vampires, sparred and cured them.  Then, when there were no other vamps to be found, she threw a house party.  and made the mistake of only inviting the first 7 vampires she turned.

The party was a huge sparring/curing fest.  The party itself wouldn't be long enough, so I locked them all in her house.  When the first 7 townies were sparred and cured it was around 3 pm on Tuesday in game.  I then had to throw another party and just wait for the last 6 sims to turn.  If I would of invited them all to the first party, I would of saved 3 hours since they had to be on a lot your sims was on to turn.

A few other things, absolutely nothing else was required to reach grand master level than what was required of the challenge itself.  Also, I used the natural light, vampire nexus, and private dwelling lot traits.  Besides the thousands of pictures I had to clean out of my folder, the challenge was a lot of fun, and I am looking forward to doing the handiness one next.

@christinal3106 Excellent strategy. Learnt a few things there. Never realised a dark form wasn't needed. Then again, this is only the third time i've played a vampire (Twice for challenges). I also wasted time getting the money via SimRay in the Scientist career. Didn't even think about photography!
The other area where i wasted time was going to individual homes to turn vampires and spar/cure them. The party idea is genius.

My sim had a similar life, she sat in the library and read vampire books for most of the first day, switching between aspirations to build satisfaction points. When she had enough vampire points she bought vampire energy and create vamp abilities then spent the night turning sims.  I went with visiting houses with lots of sims in so we turned the Partyhaus group, the Caliente's and Don, the Roomies and a random sim in the neighbourhood.  The satisfaction points were spent on Connections, Always Welcome and Speed Reader.

She spent the night at Vlads, where she slept, sparred and got vampire training, she also visited the Vatores to spar and get training.  The next day was spent in the library finishing vampire books and making money by joining and quitting every career in the list.  Monday night into Tuesday she did more vampire training and sparring but struggled to find enough new vamps to spar with and get training from so she bought detect personality and irresistable slumber and gained a bit more vamp level using them on every one she could find.  She also went home and sold everything in her household inventory and raised about $40-45K, enough for my plan.  15 packs each of seeds where bought and opened, a big square room was build and a cheap bar purchased.

In my tests I had seen my offspring turning from about 9 am on Tuesday so I travelled away and back to bring the first group to the house and we chatted while we waited for them to turn.  Sparred with them as soon as they had turned and then, when they were all sparred with, made a group serving of cure vampire which my good little offspring happily helped themselves to and returned to human. Repeat with 2nd group of offspring. My last move was to cure my own vamp sim as the 13th vamp cured.

My mistake was that once I had the first group safely locked in the room I went and got the 2nd batch and locked them in too.  This made the room too crowded and slowed down sparring as everyone had to re-arrange themselves to make space and watch. It also prevented at least 2 vamps from reaching the bar to take their cure vamp drinks so I had to fight and cure 1 to make 12 npc vamps cured. That took 2 attempts as I lost the first battle.

In one of my (many) test files I grouped up with Vlad so see if I could cure sims by making the drink for a group.  It worked like a charm and it was very satisfying to see him turn back to human :D

@HelenP I like it, a lot of things I didn't think of there.  I had to buy 65 seed packets though, since there was 2 in each packet, and you need 10 per drink.  I was just wondering why it was different.

When you make a drink for a group it uses 1 set of seeds for a max of 8 sims, but it does charge you 2500 for each sim.  So 5 packs wolfsbane, 5 packs plasma fruit and 5 packs garlic plus 20,000 will make 8 cure vamp drinks in 1 go if you have made a group of 8.

I also traveled to houses to turn several sims at once - the club idea was a better choice. (Great strategy @christinal3106).  I also held parties for sparring and curing, but didn't think about making group drinks - my sim actually fought and beat all 12, and then turned herself.  I'm tempted to do this again using these great ideas just to see how much faster I could do it.

To get the money to buy all the ingredients and pay for making the drinks, I bought an aquarium, purchased guppies at $15 each, made plasma packs out of them, and sold them for $50.  Very slow and tedious, but requires no clock time - it can all be done while on pause.  Also, my vamp never slept - in addition to dark meditation, she made the sunshine drink and read the vampire lore books out in the sun to regain energy.
