Leveling the cooking skill?
« on: November 11, 2017, 05:07:34 PM »
Am I doing something wrong or is my game working as intended?

Whenever I try to get a sim to level Cooking, they must stop and eat every single dish they prepare.
It doesn't matter if they have a full Hunger meter; it doesn't matter if they're a Vampire with the Withered Stomach weakness (thanks for vomiting in the toilet afterward).
One way to avoid this, I guess, is to have the sim prepare only cakes, since they just move the cake to a different surface without eating it.

Just seems weird to me that a sim with a full stomach or a vampire with a Withered Stomach must sample every dish.
I guess a second option would be for me to enter Build mode as soon as each dish is completed then swoop it into family inventory. But that's a real pain, lol.

Oh well, only 4 more levels... but it will happen again in a different game with a different sim.

Oh this is an older bug that was supposedly fixed! It would be worth making a bug report about this if it happens in a new game no cc/mods etc.

I'm surprised to hear that it's been fixed because it's been an issue for me for as long as I can remember.
In my case, my workaround today is to have my sim cook only cakes and pies.

I'll test this again tonight in a different game that has no cc.

If you make a dish, that's larger than a single serving, your Sim will be less likely to take a serving, if he's not hungry. At least, there will be enough of a delay, that you can queue up another dish.

CuriousSim, do you sims do this as well?
Even with four- or eight-serving dishes, however, my sims will stop and sample every dish.
The vampire with a Withered Stomach will next need to stop and vomit after eating, not to mention their Nauseated moodlet. *sighs

I'm playing an eight-sim household, so I don't have the desire or attention span to constantly supervise a single sim, lol.
This uncooperative vampire will be cooking only cakes and pies until he maxes Homestyle Cooking.
At least there's a workaround, though it's scarcely a healthy diet for growing children...

It was one of those bugs that the fix was not retroactive, so only (supposedly) fixed in new games.

@oshizu

Nope. My Sim will only occasionally chain sample, when I make single servings. Once in a while, he might take a bite out of a multi serving dish. If it helps, you can watch a cooking show, while you eat, to maximize your learning, when you ARE hungry. Morning or evening Sim reward traits are also helpful, for learning to bake.

My Sims (vampires or not) will always grab a dish from meals they make no matter the size - save for pie and cake. I've come across mods that supposedly stop this, but I don't use one. I simply cancel the eating action and have the Sim put it all away.
