Captioning them is a good idea, and one I really want to encourage -- after all, we're sure to have some folks just looking for some fun shots to look at. Keywords can even help people find shots with the search interface. After all, no browser or search engine knows what an images is unless we tell it so. It will help this project to be more affordable to eventually put a small ad at the bottom when we start getting referrals from image search engines.
Don't worry about disk space right now. We're only at 53mb. Use it, I'll see how it goes and make a call from there. I apologize for not being able to be firm in a number right now but it's hard to guess just how much space we're going to need over the next year. I'm recording where we stand and what the forum traffic volume is like at the time to watch as it progress. I can see myself getting a second cheaper server for my lower-demand sites some day, which will free up even more space for us here.
Right now we only have 53mb worth of space on there and can easily hold 1000 times more pictures than we have -- that doesn't mean go crazy, but no one has a number right now that even comes close to worrying me. Joria and Pam both have images that are in excess of 9mb total and that doesn't trigger any anxiety in me.
I'd say 500-1000 pictures per person is managable for quite a long time. Like I said in the first post, just keep them organized and if it does come time to do a little pruning you'd know what ones are on the forum, and the others that are just for show.
I'm a nice guy -- if you go over, we'll find some way to work out the problem. No worries!
I can see a few more questions being asked on this issue. When they arise, I'll take the time to update the first post to make sure someone doesn't have to run through all of these pages to get my input about policy and how things could go in the future.
