Climbing Wall frustrations
« on: June 27, 2017, 01:35:08 PM »
Hey guys,

Have you learned what it takes to beat the overhang challenge no. 4? My Sim has maxed fitness, maxed climbing skill/stamina/whatever that learning bar over their head means when they climb, is energized and hasn' worked out for 12 hours. Yet, he still can't beat it. What am I doing wrong? Oh, and he's a vampire with maxed out vampiric strength. Help?

 :-\ :(

Update

I just read this somewhere:

'Completing medium to high level challenges is extremely difficult and can take upwards of 40-60 tries until successfully completed. Based on wording in the game itself, it is assumed that this was intentional.'

I guess patience is my only route to success.

Forty to sixty tries! You've got to be kidding me!
Oh well, at least your sim is a vampire which means he will actually live long enough to complete the overhang challenge some day!

Forty yo sisty tries? That is a bit extreme isn't? At least I too play with Vamp sims, so at least my sims might live long enough to do all the challenges. How is a sim on a normal life span supposed to do so?

It's pretty far out. A Sim would need to do nothing but attempting the challenges their entire life unless aging is off, of course. The final fire challenge will supposedly almost always set your Sim on fire and kill them - one will need a second Sim and a bunch of death flowers. I find myself losing motivation :-\

If you use cheats and have needs disabled, then it's not so bad because you can just attempt the climb 7 or 8 times before you get the red moodlet for uncomfortable.
That actually sounds like a good way to kill off a sim... or in my case an awesome death to enjoy..

Something I've always wondered about the relationship between the Freelance Botanist aspiration and a vampire's sunlight resistance.

Since the Botanist aspiration's bonus trait is Fire Resistance, does that mean that they can never fry in the sun?
I guess this would be easy enough to test, but I'm trying to stop procrastinating about learning the new Parenthood stuff.

Also, what's the benefit of completing these challenges? Does the victorious sim get a bonus anything? Or just bragging rights and calloused hands?

@oshizu  I'm going to guess they get bragging rights and calloused hands.

@Franki

When I read Nindigo's remark that a sim could die from the Climbing Wall's final challenge, I immediately thought of your gardener NPC and wondered if you've already placed a climbing wall for your gardener and his clones.
Your idea of turning them into vampire food is brilliant!

I did try that but the gardeners (it's multiplied) seem more interested in the computer and dancing with the family, when they aren't complaining about being feasted upon by Vlad and his family.

It is a whole different kind of death so a vamp sim can die from the sun even if immune to fire. Vamps that die from the sun have this cool mini sun in the middle of there ghost and don't start fires when mad.

I find the mini sun less cool. Often, when I play the Vatores, I immediately kill off Lilith by letting her stand in the sun. But I release her ghost to the Nether to avoid having her come around with that ball of light inside of her. Also, dead or alive, she'll be glued to Caleb constantly which is unbearable.

I'd invited a vampire over to work on the rocketship but asked him to leave when it started getting light.
He stayed and fried in the sun anyway so I got to see that little ball of light.
Later, I moved him into the house and brought him back to life with Ambrosia. That was much cooler than seeing him as a ghost with a ball of light (plus he can't procreate as a ghost).

^This! In my game, Caleb cannot take one step without Lilith showing up and getting in his bizness. She constantly shows up everywhere to intrude in Caleb's convos with other sims. Ugh!
I vaguely remember someone saying that Lilith is really great with the toddlers/children. Not in my games!
I have to watch her like a hawk or she constantly drops her queue to go chat with her brother.  I find her obsessive attachment to Caleb unattractive and interfering.
Oops, I didn't mean to rant about Lilith in a thread about the wall-climbing challenges, haha!

@oshizu I'm forever grateful for that rant. It put a big smile on my face :-*

And I couldn't agree more. It's extremely off-putting. Who wants a cute guy to come with a sister permanently attached?

I'm with scoed, I like the ball of sun vampy ghost thing. I tend to ignore Lilith as she usually is easy to best in a vamp sparring match so becomes one of my go-to vamps when my vamps need to clear that part of the aspiration.

Back to the wall thing. Totally weird but one of my vamps just cleared all but the last challenge automatically. I send him and his partner to the gym and without me directing him once he headed straight for the wall and then proceeded to do the challenges one after the other! He is in the athletic career, body builder branch but I don't think that should make a difference.
