Inventories After Moving
« on: December 10, 2010, 11:57:06 PM »
Carline Gabbin's oldest daughter Jasmine is a YA, and got a wish to move into a High Rise building, which I added with edit town. She's spent a lot of time collecting, and has a ton of gems and space rocks. If I move her out, will she keep everything in her inventory if I switch to that household later?

There are others with more experience in this than me, but I think there's a good possibility she'll lose all that stuff.  You might try putting everything into a chest and leaving the chest in the house.

Dang. Oh well, I guess I'll just give her stuff to one of her sisters. (They're still too poor to travel). :(

On the contrary, I think she'll keep whatever's in her inventory. I switch between households a lot and I have yet to notice anything missing. Why don't you try it just to be sure without saving, or save a copy, so you can go back if she loses anything?

And I'm going to contradict Pally.  :)  Whenever I have moved between households everything from the Sims' inventories has gone missing. The only things I've had stay are laptops, cars, and books. Everything else: seeds, fruit, gems, rocks, teddy bears, fish, etc., have all disappeared. I would suggest saving before switching households, Simstar, then if things do go missing you can go back to your previous save and take everything that you want to keep out of their inventories.

And now for my 2 cents worth  ;D
I occasionally switch households and I have found that whatever is in their 'personal' inventory goes with them.  If an item is in their 'family' inventory it stays with the original family.  Therefore any furniture type items will not go with them so putting items in a chest will not work.
I have had harvestables, fish, seeds, pictures, etc go with the person(s) I was moving out.  I had to pause the game and go around the house moving everything I wanted to take into their 'personal' inventory.  Then, when I switched households, I had to pause again to remove the items from their 'personal' inventory and place in the new home.

Not this time!  He must have had it handy and already put it back on.  In any case, I've got it saved on my computer in case of emergency.  :D

Smart going!  I think keeping his arm on your computer applies to 'Inventories After Moving' so at least we are still on topic. ;)

Looks like I need to clarify.

My point was that if Simstar was moving between households (which is what I thought) - going to Edit Town and changing active household - then everything in the personal inventories of the household you are leaving disappears if you go back. But if Simstar is moving Jasmine out - via phone or computer - and Jasmine stays as the active household/Sim, then yes she does keep everything in her personal inventory (I believe this is what Simstar is asking). Jasmine will also lose everything in her personal inventory if Simstar moves her out but keeps Jasmine's parents' household as active.

Sorry for the confusion. :P

@ Pam: I keep meaning to re-upload my avatar but my husband was nice enough to delete it off the PC for me, without asking!  :)  So I had to get him to make it for me again and now it's waiting on the PC. I guess I could do that now since he's still at work, I would just have to wake up the PC.

I know quite a while back, I use to lose things when I changed active households, but for a long time now, when I change active households or move someone, I have not lost anything anymore.  It use to be a big issue, but, I have not had that happen for quite some time.  I still am nervous about moving or changing households, but everything seems to be in tact.  It is not to say that it does not happen at all or won't happen, but, like pally said, try it and you could always go back to previous save.  Thought I would throw my nickels worth in, lol.
