Your vote counts! Help us create a new Stuff Pack for The Sims 4

Hi Simmers! Today marks the start of an exciting partnership between those of us here at Maxis, and each and every one of you. We’re here today to announce a new project where we want you to help us create an all-new Stuff Pack for The Sims™ 4. How will this work? Let us explain…

Today is the first major inflection point for this upcoming Stuff Pack, and we’re looking to you and The Sims community to guide this pack through its critical steps of development. We’re going to ask you the same questions we ask ourselves, and ultimately we’ll have a pack we can all be proud of. Development here in Maxis is always a collaborative process, with input from multiple disciplines to shape everything that we create. By adding your voices and your feedback, we’re going to make a Stuff Pack that represents your desires.

From now until April 6th, we’re gathering your votes at the bottom of this blog to help select the theme of this Stuff Pack.  At this early stage of pre-production, we pair potential features with a theme to help conceptualize the pack we aspire to create. You’ll see those features mentioned in the survey, but to be clear – you are not selecting specific features in this vote. Feature selection will occur in a separate vote, at a later time in the campaign.

The entire development of this new Stuff Pack will give you a transparent look into how Maxis works together to make new experiences for your Sims. Not only will your votes help determine what we create, but we’ll also be sharing in-depth information about our progress throughout the development process. We’ll show you images and videos of the Stuff Pack throughout development, so you can see what we see when we’re building the game. You’ll have a window into our process, be it an inside look at the meetings we hold, to gaining insight into how we respond to unexpected challenges. Along the way you’re going to meet other developers on our team, and learn about what they contribute.

You can take part in a new section of our forums that’s dedicated to this project. It’s there that we’ll post regular updates, and we’ll jump in to engage in spontaneous discussions. Your feedback in the forums will be another opportunity to help shape the course of this pack. Of course, participating can be as simple as just voting. Be sure to circle the following dates on your calendar, and return to TheSims.com to make your voice heard.

•   Theme Vote (April 3rd - April 6th): Select the overall theme for the pack. Every part of the pack will be influenced by this key decision.
•   Art Style Vote (April 10th – April 12th): Select between proposed art styles for the pack, which will guide our concept artists in the objects and clothing they create.
•   Objects & Clothing Vote (May 18th – May 21st): Browse through the concept art we’ve drawn for the pack, and select your top choices to help us determine which objects and pieces of clothing are included.
•   Feature Vote (June 23rd – June 26th): Select the top gameplay feature(s) you want to have included in the pack.
•   Pack Icon Vote (Fall): Peruse different icons and select the one that will appear in the pack's box art and within the in-game catalog.
•   Pack Title Vote (Fall): Select a title that best summarizes the pack's atmosphere and content.

For years, we’ve worked to make Sims games that we think you’ll love. This unique opportunity to work directly with all of you has our team incredibly excited. So come on… put on your honorary Producer cap and come join us. Let’s build something great, together. We can’t wait to learn more about what we’ll start making in just a few short days!

The five themes you’ll be voting on represent some of the most requested additions we’ve seen on the forums that fit within the scope of a Stuff Pack. They are…

And you'll need to click the link I've provided to see the details and vote. Better hurry though, it closes soon.

Thank goodness! lol And I seriously hope some sort of laundry element makes it to the final design. My sims need to have some consequences for every day living! My hopes is that an eco pack doesn't end up with items that just make my sims happier and their lives easier, we have enough of that in the game already in my opinion.

I'm pretty disappointed and annoyed about the Eco-Living pack winning, I mean seriously, that was the most boring option out of all of them. I mean, laundry and recycling, really?! They would have been better of patching those in, I think.  >:(

I just thought the dangerous living sounded more interesting as that would have added some pretty cool gameplay mechanics. A video game arcade would have been great too, as it would have been so nice to have arcade machines other than the great hulking one from Get Together, which doesn't really fit in a normal sized home, that easily. We need more community lots and I for one miss the pinball and crane games.  :(

I don't really want a stuff pack that is really nothing more than more chores for my Sims to do, I'm not sure I'll get this one.  :-\

@Rainbow Dash You aren't alone, I was hoping for the dangerous pack to win as well. I always wanted graveyards to manage ghosts, more kinds of deaths, funerals, more fun interactions with the Grim Reaper, and zombies (I know that this is controversial but if done very differently from Sims 3 zombies, they could be fun). It would have been a unique concept and a touch of dark humor like at the origins of the Sims. That said, maybe the idea would be much better in a game pack rather than in just a stuff pack, in order to have plenty of new gameplay, so maybe this is for the best. I don't know. We'll see...
I don't mind an eco-friendly theme though. Especially if ever it has gardening items. I'm not interested in something centered around chores either, because I like to play large families and they don't have the time to do more chores, especially with babies and toddlers to take care of.

Boo..yuk. Really don't like style B at all.  :P #soreloser
Meanwhile amidst all this 'hype' over not much at all I wonder when we will be getting some really good game changing new content?

I've had some pretty bad luck during the voting process...
The Eco Living Theme was pretty low on my ranking. In fact, the Starter Home Theme was my first pick since I love building small starter houses, but we know how that went. Then I voted for Style A and lost again!  ;D

Originally, I was a bit salty about Style B winning until another simmer made me realize that Style B does kind of match/coordinate with the BoHo Style furniture that came with the Movie Hangout SP.  Currently, I never use it because I can't make a kitchen match that style. So, maybe the Eco Living SP will change that? Hmmm...

You can read it here from the beginning.

Yay! I voted for Eco as first, then style B ;D

I really liked the clothing style and the shack-like kitchen - thought it all pegged the eco theme well. W00t 8)

I voted for the wedding pack, but eco is cool even though I don't want my Sims to have more chores in my main 8 Sim family with all the self-cleaning upgrades, etc. --- although, I missed voting for style, I don't like much about style B --- except her necklace and some new tools.  That necklace would go with the boho stuff, though.  Will there be a link so we can vote on items on May 18?

*commiserates with @Jase~  * Good point about it matching the boho style, as that was my main issue... the fact that it seems to match nothing. (secretly still salty)

This is a stuff pack I will likely have zero interest in. Don't like the theme and don't like the look. Sadly, I will likely still buy it for completeness sake. My interest wasn't popular enough I guess. I am glad many of you are happy though. Hopefully this stuff pack will be a hit and they do it again. If they do I will complain more. It is kinda fun to vote on this stuff even if the stuff I like doesn't win.

Awesome, another thing I voted for won.. sorry just noticed which style actually won.. Not sure I'd buy it if i wasn't such a completionist, but maybe it will have it's uses.. I do like the theory that it ties in with the boho style we got in the movie pack.. curious to see what round 3 of voting will have in store for us, like the specific designs and which will win..

For the name, can we all vote to call it "Packy McPackface"?
