Discovery: Keeping Vlad Out
« on: February 10, 2017, 04:32:18 PM »
I started a new game in one of the penthouses and based on the story in my head, the male in the household always keeps the front door locked to everyone but household members.  So eventually, Vlad shows up for the second time where he usually sneaks in the house, charms one of the members and drinks from them.  Not this time.  He just stood in the elevator entryway for several hours, not able to get in the house, and finally left shortly before my sims woke up.  Just thought I'd share in case others wanted a way to keep vamps out without garlic everywhere.

Might have just been lucky as Vlad as the perk where he can enter locked houses. Were any of your sims awake at the time?

No, and I couldn't wake them while the 'event' was in progress.  They were both asleep.  The property also has the Private Dwelling trait.  But I'm going to make sure the door stays locked at night. :)

I remember one of the developers saying that that all inhabitants must be human (no other vampires or aliens) and all asleep between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m. to be bitten by a vampire at night.

This is probably why I never get it; I always have a vampire Sim alongside a couple in the same house as said Sim is 100x more efficient at caring for a toddler than its' parents :P

That does lead to a question: does this timeframe mean all sims must be asleep within it or any time in between? e.g. he will not appear if asleep at 10:20pm and sleep through to 4:00am but he will if asleep at 11:30pm and anytime through to 3:30am

Aside from that, I'm assuming this can happen anywhere? Like he can invade any home outside Forgotten Hollow?

Yes, vampires can enter any house whatever the world. Unless if you use a mod to prevent it (there is one mod that prevents vampires from showing up outside of Forgotten Hollow).
For the rest, I don't know because I haven't bought the pack yet, and the developer didn't specify what he meant. But I suppose that all human sims being asleep at the same time in that time frame should be enough to cause a vampire to come. So I think it can be useful to have at least one sim with the never weary reward to avoid vampire bites at home.

Most of my sims that live in San Myshuno have been visited and snacked on by Vlad and abducted recently too. It's great that these features all seem to be working as intended.

@Playalot

Abducted by aliens or by Vlad? (I'm just being silly. I wouldn't want to think of my male sims and Vlad...never mind. *shudders)

lol I know but <<abducted>> !!! I've been trying for over a year to get abductions back in my game and now they are happening often. It's so exciting. (And taking this thread of topic which I seem to be doing a lot recently!)  :P

So I think it can be useful to have at least one sim with the never weary reward to avoid vampire bites at home.

Never weary doesn't matter. My 2 human sims have this trait but Vlad chased my sims wherever they go. On Vlad's 1st visit, he sent me a message that my sims have a nice neck. He visited my house, my sims invited him in. He started to get in my house himself and he woke up one of my sims. The other one never woke up. My command was completely ignored. Before he starts to drink my black hair sim, I commanded him explore on rocketship in backyard. I thought Vlad would give up if my sim travels the space but it didn't work. My black hair sim's dazed moodlet was last long for 4hrs. As soon as he came back from exploring, Vlad eventually drunk my sim.

Next day, I visited the gym in San Myshuno at 11pm, my sims were playing basketball. I also thought Vlad wouldn't visit if my sims were awake but  Vlad visited there to drink my sim again. Vlad was coming upstais to get my sim's neck in his dark form. I went back to main screen and I activated a other single household, then visited Vlad's mansion, then asked him to turn into a vampire. Now he is a grand master.
Very hard to be escaped from Sims.

I have 3 solutions for Keeping Vlad out.

1. I had activated him just before going into my real household. He doesn't have garlic immune, and very weak at sunlight. So plant 5-6 garlic plants in front of the front door, and Vlad wouldn't be able to manage the smell. I tested with my vamp sim and human sim. The green effect of garlic doesn't appear to my human sim but it does to my vamp sim even though he has garlic immune perk. So it will work to Vlad too.

2.  My vamp sim completed Vampire Lore skill when he reached up to Grand Master level. He visited Vlad, and he made 'drought of reconfiguration' drink. Then I switched over to Vlad, then let him drink it. I purchased 'tamed thirst' perk for Vlad, then back to my vamp sim. I've never seen Vlad's visit since that time. I've seen Caleb just once.

3. Make one of your household into vampire.  Vampire sim doesn't need to go sleep as far as vampiric energy is enough. No no..vamp sim can go sleep too. There was Caleb's visit after midnight while my all sims were in sleep. My vamp sim woke up from his coffin, then Caleb just gave up hunting and returned home straightaway. There were no garlic at all in the house. But if you grow lots of garlic plants, Caleb also wouldn't come.  It's also good for active vampire because he or she doesn't have to go outside for hunting. Just ask for permission and drink plasma of active human sims. Once they are bitten by vampire, other vampire is not allowed to bite them for 12 hrs.
Very hard to be escaped from Sims.
