This is something that has bothered me for a long time and I'm finally just going to ask.  When did "math" become "maths" with an S?

Maths and math are both abbreviations of mathematics. Maths is how we say it in England, but Americans shortened it to math. Nobody is right or wrong, but maths is older.

You're correct. Here's the Wiktionary page on it. You can't ask American teachers/professors Pam!

Do other subjects receive the same type of abbreviation? Just curious. Like would you say, "I'm off to study sciences." Or "I need to brush up on my histories."

Sure I can if that's all I've got in my family.  Thanks everyone for the clarification.  Apparently it's a country of origin thing.  In the U.S., it's always math.

I've been simming since the year 2000, but my addiction has recently developed to the point that I need a forum to vent my simming frustrations.
