The Sims and weight gain
« on: February 02, 2017, 09:23:28 AM »
Heg guys,

I must gripe, because it's been an issue for me for some time now.

1. To me it seems that female sims automatically gain weight over the course of time unless they exercice - even if they only eat to stay alive, where as male Sim don't seem to have to do a thing to remain the same size even though eating more than they need.

2. The same principle now appears to apply to vampires. I created my vampire lady as a slender beauty. She has ingested only a few plasma packs to get the bar back from orange to green, and is now rapidly gaining weight because, I assume, she hasn't exercised.

I'm at my wits end. What kind of gameplay feature is that? >:(

It sounds accurate, actually.

I always cancel my Sims eating interaction as soon as their bar gets full and they don't usually gain much weight because of this. Of course I can only do this when I'm watching them eat which isn't all the time but enough of the time.

Bad coding.
I've noticed the same thing. It's even worse with toddlers. My toddler ate one slice of apple pie, just one slice, and visibly gained weight (like, 1/8th of the weight bar in CAS) ! Just after one meal  >:(
That's like sudden muscle gain, it's annoying.
Fortunately this can be modded. I've found the XMLs controlling calorie count in foods. Editing them is easy and should make sims' metabolism much more realistic in the end, but it's a bit long. I'll post more about it if / when it's done and functional, for people who are interested.

I totally agree that this is annoying. My female sim does work out - she's at level 10 fitness and she jogs and does yoga regularly. Yet she blimps out after awhile (I will occasionally make it my mission to slim her down by using the exercise machines as if she's training for the olympics) while my male sim stays slim and svelte. He looks like a pencil next to her. I assume because she's a writer the game assumes she's got to put on the pounds. I don't think this is very realistic. So I commiserate.

Stupid question: how do you see the weight bar in CAS for an already existent sim?

Glad to know I'm not the only one taking issues with this. It's certainly not realistic.

@Candyd That would be quite a blessing :)

As for the weight issue, I think I noticed this issue the worst for one of my couples who have 5 kids. Though i guess it would be realistic for a woman to have packed on pounds after 5 kids haha. The weirdest case I have is a gay couple, the one guy is a chef and he never gains much weight, yet his husband is a techie and he just keeps gaining weight. And they both exercise the same! Maybe the techie is eating all of his husband's cooking?

You need to enable cas.fulleditmode. Type it like a cheat.

To avoid this I always choose the Body builder aspiration in CAS or on birthdays etc and then just switch it out. The reward trait makes it almost impossible for the sims to gain weight just by ordinary everyday eating habits.

Another interesting info I found in the game's code : foods and serums aren't the only objects with calories. Drinks have calories too. If your sims take too many drinks, they gain weight ! And microwave foods have just as many calories as real life ones.

Guess I'll have old grandma become a bodybuilder then... :-\

lol, no the sims don't need to actually even gain any fitness skill, they just need the reward trait from choosing the Body builder aspiration.  ;D

@Playalot Right, I'll just have grandma aspire to become a bodybuilder then and never let her fulfill her dream. I feel like such a nice Watcher now ;D
