Magnifique Artiste finished 6 columns of masterpieces before becoming an elder.

6 x 5 = 30
Total: 30 points

I didn't do great on this one, but it was fun to see so many different pictures for the first time.  Congrats to the top scorers!  And thank you to the creators of another great challenge!

Well about halfway in I realized what I should have done different! :)

3 rows x 5 columns = 55

Am I to late to post a score?  Not sure what the timezone for the challenge is, and my sim JUST turned elder.

I only got one row done before turning elder, but I was going to  try to post a score in every contest this year, even when they are really bad.

So if I still qualify under the wire put me down for 10 points. If not I understand because it's kinda late.

This event is now closed.

Good job, everyone. I will post my thoughts on what I did shortly. Everyone is now free to discuss strategy.

Congrats Metropolis Man and LenaLJ! Can't wait to hear your strategies   :D I still don't know if my score was just bad luck or not thinking of something that would bump up the Masterpiece turnaround. Will comment more after i hear what those with the really good scores did.

Well, it’s nice to finally have a respectable finish. If I had to guess I would say it was in 2010 or 2011 when I last won a Tournament event. Lena might know or be able to track that thread down since she is one of the few players that has been around since day one. Long story short - it’s been a long time. By the way, grats, Lena. Given your track record over the years, to tie you in any event makes me feel pretty good. :)

I did my homework on this one. I often “wing it” but there were a few things I ironed out in two separate practice runs. In terms of how many various things one had to juggle in this event it was actually pretty easy compared to most events. You’re painting, painting, painting on days off and on work days you go to work. That’s it. But, dig a little deeper and you needed to make sure you gave yourself the highest chance at masterpieces once you do start filling out the bingo grids.

You start off having no other option but to do a Classic painting. In other words - you have to mark a box on a bingo card when you’re finished and it will obviously be an X and not an M. But, here is the all important thing after that point: Landscapes. All my painter did to cap his skill after that first Classic painting was Landscapes (available at lvl 2) to level up his skill because Landscapes are not scored - there’s no box for them on the grid.

Is there some RNG in whether something pops out a masterpiece? Of course. But, a player can greatly influence whether something turns out a masterpiece - the mood of the painter (being Very Inspired increases the chance, so give your painter the Creative trait and do things to get that buff before starting a painting), the skill level of the painter, the Perfectionist trait, the type of easel, and finally, the Creative Visionary trait (from Rewards Store). All of these things the player has direct control over. If your painter is in the perfect storm and all the above elements are going on at the same time, then if I had to take a guess - I’d say your chance at a masterpiece is 30%. It may be even higher on the career lvl 8 easel.

So, aside from the first Classic painting everyone had to mark down on day one, I did not even start filling out the bingo grids until I capped the painting skill, hit lvl 4 in the career to unlock a better easel, and had enough Satisfaction to buy the Creative Visionary trait. This is my first big tip: wait until all these things are in place before you begin filling out the bingo cards.

The second tip, and honestly my only other thing I can think of is HOW to fill out the cards to give yourself more of a chance. I immediately looked at the very first card (top left of my printout) as the “throwaway” grid. I put my first X in that grid, so I knew that on day four or five when I had the perfect storm of elements in place - it was that grid I would focus on first. And when something did pop out a masterpiece, I put an M in the very last grid (bottom right).

Wow, I know that even if I play in a long life span or have limitless bingo cards, I can never get points that high! Congratulations Metropolis Man and LenaLJ! I'd like to read your strategies. It must be interesting.  ;)

Okay now i know my score was just bad luck as i did everything you said Metro  :P Also in a practice run i went all the way to lvl 8 career and even with that easel and the inspiration reward potions (and Perfectionist and Creative Visionary and the Lot Trait Home Studio) i got, i kid you not, less masterpieces then with the lvl 4 easel!

My strategy was pretty much the same as yours Metro I did change the lot traits to home studio and if I recall correctly perfect light. I also made sure not to leave any easels without a painting started on as in a practice run I noticed my Sim would go off plan and start a painting without my say so.

Also if you queue up play with lump of clay after you queue up paint they will do both at the same time which saves a bit of time. Same with eating, Vincent often had a grilled cheese in his hand as he worked on a painting.

One of the things I ironed out in a practice run was to NOT wait until getting the best easel at career lvl 8. It takes too long. At that point I was already an Adult with only a few days until Elder, so not enough time to fill out bingo cards.

Same! Especially since it gave me less masterpeices anyway... if i'd seen an increase in return i may have. I just think my real life bingo luck translated over to painter bingo  8)

I have no idea how the better lvl 8 easel translated to less masterpieces for you, cyclonenic. That makes no sense and was definitely not the case for me. Hmmmm....weird.

I didn't know the type of easel mattered, but I did know the Sim's mood increases the chances of masterpieces. Before my sim paints, I had her take a thoughtful shower, but it took a lot of time (and I was very impatient) so I stopped later in the challenge. I also had my sim buy the "Creative Visionary" in her early adulthood because the first time I checked the rewards store, I didn't see it. Didn't know why, but oh well, it was a fun challenge. I'll be remembering those tips. :)

Once I reached level 4 career I quit as in practice runs I didn't see any increase or likelihood of masterpieces with the level 8 easel.
I tested by having two Sims work alongside one another.  Normally I wing it but this time I did practice runs.
