First off, a very belated congrats on the birth of Massimo! He's such a cute lil vampire!

Second, it seems like you're a lot further ahead on requirements than me lol. In all seriousness it's great that Jade is so far in her career already and that Moss not only gained the top-notch toddler trait but also maxed his childhood aspiration in a day! I love the kigurumis that you gave the toddlers, they're very cute! And don't worry Moss, Petruchio Monty has his eye on an older woman as well so you aren't alone ;) That's the beauty of having aging for inactive households off in this challenge.

So I thought about reading the rest of the Moris, but then I noticed you'd started an RDC so I had to have a look at this first.

The efficiency of your playing never ceases to amaze me. You've really hit the ground running! I'm not sure who I'm rooting for just yet, but I've loved the toddler spam. :)

Looking forward to reading more! :)

Niche Nerds in Newcrest: Week 2 with the Mori's, Part I (02/08)
« Reply #62 on: February 08, 2017, 11:33:46 PM »
@PeregrineTook  I'm glad you're enjoying the silliness of this story. :D

@MarianT  Moss aged up with Creativity at Level 2.94 and (I don't know if it matters) but the sim who "encouraged" Moss has L10 Painting. Also, he has a Book of Life which another adult could read for him.

@FrancescaFiori  I was so upset about Salim's haggling failures! The first time, I thought it was just a mistake but Marcus Flex shut him down as well. I will never use Haggle again, lol.
I never hated Eva Capricciosa's snooty walk as much as when she walked away from the produce stall. Lol.

@Alex  If you're looking for the last four rare MySims trophies, your will need to visit Sixam, except Carl is also sold at the flea market. Whatever I'm looking for, though, that is exactly what I have trouble finding!

@wfgodot  The Social Butterfly aspiration's final tier includes a "Make friends with 3 children" goal which doesn't count children one's sim already knows (like siblings).
After a while, children become scarce without a pollinator. Even so, it's always easier to get friendly with someone you live with, right?
I could see if the produce vendors refused to haggle with a mean sim, but c'mon…Salim?
And yeah, Yumiko's really attractive now, as long as she's not eating…

@NexttoNormal  About the requirements, I'm pushing my sims to get them done quickly. Since it's the first generation, I have no idea of how long they'll take to complete. I tried a retail shop for my legacy, though, and I must say that the Dine Out option is more fun!
Oh I love your little Petrucchio and can't wait to see him as a teen, pursuing his older love interest. The difficulty with Yuki is that she's in an active household now so she's ageing. That's one incentive for getting the heir out quickly, I guess.

@Whirligig  Thank you for reading! My Rival Dynasties challenge is more of a two-dimensional Let's Play series than a story *feels ashamed.
But something I learned in Week 2 of the second household: Three consecutive toddlers are easier to raise than one set of twins, lol. There was a moment where I distinctly disliked Murasaki Mori who was constantly sad and mopey.

Week 2 with the Mori's (Part I)

Sunday

On arriving back at the Mori residence, we find everyone wandering around the house so they are immediately sent to bed. In the morning...

Candy: Thanks for changing into your party outfit for this portrait. And sorry for asking you to pose for a second portrait. The first one didn't come out well.
Shota: Oddly, I preferred the first portrait but it's worth less. I'm still uncertain whether we should be prioritizing museum value or speed for this challenge.
Candy: Well, probably both, if possible.

Shota: Now that my portrait is done, Watchette builds us a small museum behind the house.
Also, wfgodot--champion of the underdog--will be happy to know that the helpers now share a first-floor bedroom!

Shota: The museum looks so empty now but, hopefully, not for long! I realize this morning that all the collections should be decided in advance.
Since this house can't be edited once Murasaki moves out, we need to figure out how large this museum needs to be.
No doubt, we'll need a subterranean room, too. Argggh, it's like doing math!

Shota: We all head to Mimsy's Cottage Café for a light brunch before I leave for work. It has an impressive exterior.

I'm surprised at how crowded it is. But let's face it, folks. Mimsy's Cottage Cafe an't got nothing on Dem Butlers Café! Yeah, that's what I've named it.
Yeah, I know, the name lacks originality but I can't just keep calling it "my café, right?

Candy: We all enjoy this outing immensely. Tamari is shocked to discover a bathroom in her own pale blond color scheme.

Summer: I've been taken off the easel and turned into an unpaid 24/7 nanny.
Murasaki: It could be worse, you know. You could be in one of those dynasties where you fish from morning to night!

Liberty: I'm so glad that it's just us geeks over here fishing.
Travis: Summer and her dumb perky walk. She's too much!
Liberty: We hardly ever go fishing but it's all about the collections, amirite?

Yuki: As if we geeks would even let Summer chill with us! We be the cool folks!
And by the way, how can we be the anime-obsessed niche nerds without a TV!? Sheesh!

After more thought, I think your lineage should be into cosplay since you "perform" in the service industry. More about that later!

Summer: Can you believe the nerve of those three? Just because they share the geek trait, they think it's okay to diss me!
Murasaki (in purple): Hey Tamari! Is Auntie Summer ever gonna read to us or just sit there and complain?

Liberty: Yuki, that's not a safe place for you to be reading! Don't you know that Travis went up in the….yeah.

Candy: Well, you're looking pretty pleased with yourself, dear.
Shota: Of course, I am. The Mori lineage is rocking this rivalry!

Candy: No, we're not! The Benjaminz have an ex-gardener Scientist and two Bestselling Authors!
And Moss, the heir, is already done with his childhood requirements. Meanwhile, our Murasaki still hasn't maxed Potty!

Shota: Calm down, Candy. You're with me! It's only Sunday evening. We'll catch up and take over!

Monday

Shota: Today, I caved and hired a nanny to help Summer out with the girls.
Tamari won't be the heir, but it doesn't feel right to neglect her, even if she's independent.

Liberty: Why is the nanny named Yumiko Murakami, the same as my lab co-worker? I'm rethinking our friendship since she became a vampire, though.

Liberty: Hey, Travis! I'm glad you joined the dark side. Lookin' good in your lab coat.
Travis: Not as stylish as you, Liberty!
Candy: Ugh, those two are such…geeks.

Liberty: So why did you join the Scientist career?
Travis: Watchette made me join cuz you're taking forever. You have tons of points. Why start at Level 1?
Liberty: I don't know. That first week was pretty hectic. Let's earn one more promotion then quit together!

Murasaki: How you doing, Tamari?
Tamari: Not bad. I need to max Potty then I'll be a Happy Toddler.
M: Oh, me, too! Hey, how are your skill levels as high as mine? As the Mori heir, the adults are constantly teaching me but you're often alone.
T: I'm independent, remember? I can learn by myself, too!

Tuesday

Tamari: It's funny watching Uncle Travis while his eyes are closed, huh?
Murasaki: Yeah, they don't even know! Let's go watch Auntie Liberty meditating next!

After breakfast and potty, the girls walk all over the lot, watching the other sims.
This is my new favorite way of skilling Thinking and Movement. And they don't get angry like they sometimes do with the blocks and flash cards.

Shota: At 11 am, I open Dem Butlers Café from home, then head over with Candy and Summer.
I'd spent some time here last night, adding landscaping and more seating: a table for four indoors plus two tables for two on the outdoor patio.

And yes, I realize that the knight statue and palm tree look out of place on the café patio. But hey, they have environment ratings of +10 and +4, respectively.

Dang, our new waitress is rocking the maid's uniform! Our three-hour lunch session adds a half star to our café's rating!

At first, the diners' attraction to the new tables mystified me. Then, I remembered!
The original tables have affordable Comfort +3 chairs. The new tables have overpriced Comfort +7 chairs.

Shota: We open again for dinner at 6 pm. Again, I bring Candy and Summer along.
After we're done with the initial "Welcome," "Check on table," and "Prioritize food" socials, I send them both home to skill. *cracks whip
Marcus Flex and his bearded companion are the last remaining diners.
Two hours after finishing his meal, Marcus literally runs out on his bill. What a jerk!

His bearded friend stays several hours longer. Despite lusting deeply for his 5-star review, I give up at 2:45 am and close the restaurant. Scammers!
Nevertheless, the dinner session adds another half star. Dem Butlers Café is now a 3-star establishment!

Wednesday

Shota: My nephew Shinya had the perfect nanny when he raised those seven toddlers. We've not been so lucky. I'm planning to fire her when I get off this treadmill.

Candy: Seriously, Shota. That hussy spends more time watching you then watching our girls!
But, honey, maybe add a tank top to your athletic outfit? And long sweat pants? Just sayin'…

Shota: I'm very suspicious about that Benjaminz family! They've dined here every single day that Dem Butlers has been open for business.
Do they come here for the fine cuisine and ambiance? Or do they just come here to leave their 3-star ratings?
Are they just throwing obstacles in my path as I strive to achieve a 5-star rating? I'm not fooled by their friendly smiles!

Shota: Marcus Flex returns with a friend for lunch today and vindicates himself with a 5-star review.
Okay, I forgive you this time, but I've got my eye on you!

Shota: Between the lunch and dinner sessions, I go home to play with the girls, have a meal, then take a quick nap.

Shota: We're closing this update with an image of you-know-who in her new party outfit. Watchette so adores this sim!

After tonight's dinner session, Dem Butlers Café has a 3.5-star rating with a resale value of $95,057.

Liberty and Travis: We quit our Scientists jobs tonight, so only Shota and Candy are working now.
Shota: But we're both off tomorrow so let's all focus on the twins and finding more collectibles!

What a funny chapter!  I laughed the whole way through.

Yuki and her choice of reading spot.  Marcus and pal skimping on the bill (but at least he redeemed himself!), the sneaky Benjaminz.  All the trash talking of Summer!  But best of all was your nanny.  You can't blame her when you have man candy like that working out all the time, shirtless.

I'm happy to see your helpers have gotten their own room!  For some odd reason I also liked Candy's stress about how far ahead the Benjaminz have gotten.  I guess it's easy to forget only one family gets played at a time.

Murasaki is just too cute!  She reminds me of Boo from Monsters Inc.
I feel bad for Summer being dissed by the Geek Squad, but I also find it really funny.  Sorry, Summer.

Okay, how amazing is it that the walls in Shota's museum match his hair? That is just too cool.

Dem Butlers! I love it! *giggles*

And that shot of Shota with Murasaki on his back is exactly what I'm talking about with your toddler-tography skills. Perfect angle, you can see both of their faces, and they both have great expressions. If I ever even get close to that then suddenly there's a wall in the way! *sigh* I'll keep working on it.

Your new waitress is rocking the maid uniform, but perhaps not as much as your hostess is rocking that kitty cat dress. Vavavoom!

Teehee. I love your favoritism when it comes to Yuki. Her new party outfit is to die for. Just keep her away from the rocket ship! Yikes!

I love Shota's museum room wallpaper, and Yuki and the rocket. And the palm tree can't be too out of place - it took me a while to spot it even after you'd pointed it out.

@wfgodot  Thank you for the kind words. Sims are the most fun when just left to their own devices, as we all know. Arrgh, that nanny was useless! Every time I turned around, she was chatting up Shota, lol.
In my head, I imagine that Shota tends to be overly confident and needs Candy to give him a reality check. When Week 2 started, the Mori's seemed so far behind the Benjaminz.

@PeregrineTook   I googled Boo from Monsters Inc and now wonder if she inspired the look of the Sims 4 toddlers. The head-to-body proportion, the big eyes and full cheeks, the short legs--they all seem so similar! So thanks for pointing that out!
As for the geeks versus Summer, I've always wondered how she ended up living with Travis and Liberty.

@FrancescaFiori  I'm so happy you appreciated the harmony between Shota's hair and the museum wall paint, lol. As for my toddler-tography, I read about your food blogging and see that you have real-life experience with the whole photography thing, but I am grateful for the flattery, hehe. When I noticed Yuki standing on the launch pad, I thought she might catch fire when the rocket ship returned, but nothing happened (thankfully).

@Alex  Thank you for dropping by! And sorry, I think the palm tree had been more prominent before I cropped that screenshot!
How strange that you got all the rare MySims but Chef Gino had been eluding you! That is such random luck!

Week 2 with the Mori's (Part II)

Thursday

Liberty: Oh please, Yuki! Everyone knows that the best captain is Jean-Luc Picard!
Yuki: I have to agree that Patrick Steward is a most amazing actor, but I'm still a fan of the original Captain Kirk!
I'm also a fan of Liberty Lee, despite her goofy walk. Who says geek girlz can't be cute?

Murasaki: Why do you hardly ever spend time with me, Mama?
Candy: I've been busy writing, sweetheart. You'll thank me later!

Summer: I don't understand! I'm the only one in the house with the Active trait. Why am I reading to Murasaki while Shota gets to use the treadmill?
Do you know Caleb Vatore and his sister Lilith, Summer?
Summer: No, why?
*whistles innocently

Shota: Murasaki completes her toddler requirements, so we're off to the park! Thanks for reading to her, Summer!
Summer: Hmmph!

Candy: Murasaki reaches Level 5 Thinking and Communication while talking and watching at Desert Bloom Park. Tamari becomes a Top-Notch Toddler, too!

Candy: We go home immediately to age up our little heir and her sister.
And did you notice that we have a new nanny? *snickers

Shota: That's Murasaki on your right and Tamari on your left.

Liberty: Hey, where are you going with that baseball bat, Candy?
Candy: What, this bat? Oh, I need to talk a little sense into our new nanny.

Nanny: Thank you your compassion, Madam Mori! I promise it won't happen again!
Candy: No, it won't. Our girls won't be children for long.
Candy hasn't finished the Bestselling Author aspiration yet, but I learned that the use of Rally the Troops is permitted around this time, so keep drawing, kiddos!

Yuki: Oh look! The cowplant must like Travis! She's drooling!

Friday

Liberty: The next morning, I see a woman standing by the fishing pond, burning up.  I wonder if she's a vampire like my co-worker Rieko.

Blond Yumiko seems to be stalking my non-vampire households, even though she's unacquainted with them. I wonder why the Sciarri's don't dine at Dem Butlers...

Shota: I work today from 2 pm so Dem Butlers Café opens only for lunch.
Introducing myself to the lady in red, I learn that she lives with the Benjaminz.
I almost didn't recognize the ex-gardener Yumiko from the Benjaminz household.

Shota: Do you remember that building behind the café where we almost had to live? That's where the twins are now, finishing up their aspiration.

Travis: That Clara Bjergsen is such an inconsiderate person! She arrives but never sits down. Instead she walks around gabbing with the other diners. *sigh
Liberty: I just hope her daughter doesn't grow up to be like that, too!

Travis: Nothing is too good for our patrons! There, now both toilets have bidets!
Shota: Would that illustrious food critic, Morris Spiffendale, dine here if we replaced them with talking toilets?

Murasaki: Well, now that we're done with Artistic Prodigy, shall we go grub for more points?
Tamari: Yeah, I bet we can introduce ourselves to five sims if we go over to the café!

Candy: Shota's still at work, so I take the girls to the library to play three games of chess for Whiz Kid.
And, conveniently, I can continue writing my novel here.

Saturday

Shota: I get home around a little past midnight. Murasaki has earned enough points to buy both Morning Sun and Night Owl.
Candy: Since Tamari needs another hour or so, Murasaki cakes up first.
I realize belatedly that Murasaki should have bought Creative Visionary instead.

Shota: Here's a collage of Murasaki, from toddler to teen!
Tamari: Where's my collage?
Sorry, Tamari! We're too close to the image limit…

Candy: The first thing we have Murasaki do is pose so I can paint her portrait.
And thanks, Watchette, for snapping a shot of me standing next to her portrait, instead of facing it.

Tamari: I cake up about an hour after my sister, then also get a makeover.
Watchette gives me the Fabio hair or, if a Stardew Valley reference is your cup of tea, the Elliott hair! (not Everett as I'd incorrectly typed before MarianT's comment)

Candy: Well, well, what a coincidence! You're starting Bestselling Author and I have Level 10 Writing!
Let's get this show on the road, daughter dear! You write, I mentor!

Shota: Today, I work from noon to 5 pm, so we skip the lunch hour and open for dinner.
Yuki joins us in a maid outfit for the first time. Work it, girl!

Candy: Meanwhile, in the sweat-factory-esque room behind the café, Murasaki continues writing while Tamari paints.

Shota: Our clientele really likes those outdoor tables. Is that because of the knight statue's +10 environment?
I wonder if I should add one or two of them indoors, even if they look awful…

This evening, I boost the menu to a much higher difficulty, yet we still manage to keep our four-star rating of yesterday.
Also, I've invested a lot in staff training. I hope my staff will still be here two weeks from now.

Candy: Wow, Shota darling, we really did catch up to the Benjaminz! And then we left them in the dust!
Shota: What did I tell you? Yep, Moss Benjaminz is still a child, but Murasaki has a two-day head start on her aspiration.
And, thanks to you, Candy, she's already reached Level 8 Writing.
Candy: Thank Carl we're through with nannies! *rolls eyes

Murasaki: You didn't see much of me as a teen yet, dear readers, but I'll be your guide in two weeks for Week 3 with the Mori's!
You can check how we're doing at any time by looking at Meet the Contenders/Stats.

Coming Next: Week 2 with the Sciarri Vampires!

Congrats to the twins (and you, of course) - it sounds like they're both making good progress. Also, if, hypothetically, somebody were to really like Tamari and request to see her portraits as a reply to a comment, therefore solving the 25-picture limit problem, what would happen? ;)

My apologies for the last minute switcheroo but, really, Tamari looks better as a boy. The Fabio/Everett Elliot hair was calling out to me!

Notice how Tamari has now inherited Shota's jawline--that in itself makes the shift worthwhile!
Well, I guess the above shot is the wrong angle to appreciate the jawline. What about this? Shota's face everything but with Candy's rosebud lips.  :)

Too late now, it's official! Murasaki has a twin brother, still named Tamari.

Wow, what timing! I think I'm going to stop for today, but I think Tamari as boy is what I want to do.

For your reference, Tamari as boy below father Shota and Tamari as girl below mother Candy, using only gender customization.

Wow, I did not expect a gender swap.  He does look good as a guy, though.
I think my favorite moment was when we went from the new nanny staring at Shota to Candy standing watching as the nanny went back to watching the kids...and there is a rack of knives hanging on the wall between them.

Oh, bravo on the gender switch. Tamari is a hunk and a half. All that and a side of . . . I don't know . . .foix gras? Anyway, the Mori smolder lives on and I for one am delighted. Dem Butlers is going to be overrun with lady customers, not that you need the extra business. Look at all those five star ratings! Nice work!

Murasaki is a very pretty teen as well.

Yumiko! Get inside! Can vampires burn to death when you're not controlling them? Diego, you need to talk some sense into your lady friend! Good thing the Sciarri's are next.

Oh, and in the spirit of keeping it real, my photography experience was very, very amateur and pretty much all I learned was that food photographed in anything other than natural sunlight looks weird and unappetizing and my camera has way more buttons that I'll ever use. :)

Oh no, not another deadbeat nanny!
Your twins are adorable.  I was gonna say Murasaki seems to be favored with the whole "sorry, not enough ss space for you!" but I have a feeling, after the switch, that Tamari might get more attention!  He's a looker, I love the lips.

Haha, I love Candy's "told you you'd thank me later" attitude as she begins mentoring Murasaki.  Well played, Watchette.

Congrats on Yuki donning your maid outfit!

I don't remember an Everett in Stardew Valley -- were you thinking of Elliott?

Anyway, I agree about Tamari's jawline. Everything else looks good, too. And I hope the Benjaminz didn't pick up any pointers from their visit to the Moris' restaurant. Still, even when you're controlling a Sim, I don't think you can control the rating they give a place.

People on the official forum have complained about vampires burning in the sun, but I've never seen it happen to one that's not under player control. And that's with Vlad dropping by my Sims' household in Oasis Springs every afternoon.

Lots of good stuff here -- will the Sciarris be able to catch up?
