The insect eating plant
« on: January 27, 2017, 09:08:48 AM »
Does anyone know if there is a use for the insect eating plant?

My sims have grown 5 of them and they do look fully grown -but they can not harvest them - or are they at all harvestable?

I am afraid they are only for "decoration" to make your garden look creepy - also there is a creepy sound around them.

So far I have not seen any use for them and one of my vampire sims have gotten to level 15 in vampire skill - and not learned anything about that plant at all.

I think they are only for immersion purposes, but can be harvested for seeds every now and then. So far, I haven't found any use for the seeds other than planting.

If you look at the collection list, the mosquito-eating plant isn't listed - only plasma fruit, garlic and wolfsbane flower can be found. And yeah, I've planted them in my garden in Forgotten Hollow. They snatch mosquitos (surprise).

The seeds are quite expensive - I got the thought now if they are there for selling.

As all the vampires - the playables and the townie-vampires all are with no job -you should think there must be a way for vampires to earn money apart from painting and book writing and other things we always have been doing with our normal sims.

Of course if they take so long before you can harvest them - it will still not really be enough to live on except you have a lot of them.

Well they are cool. They seem to do nothing else but be cool. You can't make much on them as they are so slow to produce seeds. And Vamps can have jobs. With bat form, mist form the sun damage is minimal to none, then with Sun Resistance 3 sunny days are lovely for your vamp. And a Sunlight Reversal Cocktail or so and the sun actually helps your vamp. The sun is easily managed in regards to damage with using the proper percs and the Vampire lore skill and gardening.

Kind of going off topic but the criminal career is perfect for vamps at most of the shifts (if not all) are at night.

Even more off topic - in my games they take on random jobs from vendor to chief of staff in medical.

By the way - you don't have to buy the mosquito plant seeds. You can just harvest them around town when they become ready for that :)

The game does randomly assign unplayed sims and vamps to the various roles and careers, that's normal. Developers also have tried to ensure that no vamp who is weak to the sun would get a role or a career that could potentially see them fried. Although apparently some vamps are not particularly good at avoiding the sun. Mine seems to have a remarkable degree of self preservation!

I don't mind it if the vampires in question here are the fat and ugly randomly generated ones :P

Well it is just me probably .. but to me it feels so wrong that vampires work -
like I feel it is wrong for them to watch tv - and even having a computer - but
the game kind of forces us to have a computer for buying the plasmabags
and the books etc.

My vampires are living a great life painting - writing books - and doing some
gardening.

@zoozee

Assume that vampires have merely adjusted to modern life. Gotta keep an open mind ;)

Having said that, it does annoy me personally that Sims fish up their cellphone everywhere and anywhere to play or browse. This is not how I use my own in real life - in fact, I'm averse to the constant need to check things on the phone, that many especially kids and younger people tend to do. Look up and around at life instead :o

Good thing we can play The Sims as we wish :)

the game kind of forces us to have a computer for buying the plasmabags
and the books etc.

You can buy the books on the bookshelf, just like you can buy any book. Just click on the bookshelf and select "Purchase Vampire Tomes ..." instead of "Purchase Books ..." and a pie menu pops up that allows you to choose which volume you want to buy.

As for Plasma Packs, if you gain just one more level in the Vampire Lore skill, so that you're at level 4 (super easy, because this skill levels up fast), you can start making Packs from fish and frogs. This is super handy, not just because it means that a quick trip to the pond gets you a ton of Packs, but also because Packs are worth $50 each, and turning fish/frogs is free and instantaneous, so if you have a bunch of low-level fish/frogs, you can turn them into Packs and earn a lot more money from them.

If you're low on fun, I've always found that playing a musical instrument is not only just as fun but way cheaper (besides which, a vampire moodily playing the violin fits the classic motif extremely well). You could also purchase a chess set, or take advantage of the free ones in the middle of the town square area in Forgotten Hollow.

There's actually nothing vampire-related that you absolutely must have a computer or a TV for, at least nothing that I've run into yet. Not unless you're dead set on your vampire being a programmer or something. (Even if you want them to be a writer, you can always cheat to purchase the typewriter.)

That is indeed one of the great things about The Sims, the ability to play as we like. I have no strict rules about vamps and technology at all, in fact it didn't even cross my mind to keep them in 'the past', so to speak. Mine all wear jeans, have PC's, some have jobs. But then I am a stickler for keeping in all the Maxis made sims in my game. Occasionally they get a make over but I've never once deleted any of them. Not even the Pancakes and they annoy me a lot! Not opposed to making The Pancakes vamps and traveling places with them during the day though...
