Lights and recipes
« on: January 03, 2017, 04:04:27 PM »
I've been playing this family for quite a while now.  Started them off in a high rise and then moved to a house to have kids.  Got pregnant and that same night aliens abducted the husband and got him pregnant.  Shortly after we had both babies.  Then I aged them up and since then my mom sim can't cook gourmet (I had used cheats to make her level 10 in all the culinary skills) excepting like ONE recipe and the option to adjust and change colors to lights is completely missing.  The lights are also OFF.

Took my sim to her restaurant and the lights weren't working there either.  There is only an option to turn off (or transform if I'm playing the dad who has the simray).  The option to change color etc is gone on the hot tub too.  I should also note that I "repaired" the game in Origin too.

I do have CC and installing/reinstalling is the last thing I want to do.  This is the first family I have played in a long time because we had to get a new laptop and I JUST finished reinstalling everything and getting it in order.  At any rate, I went out of the game and came back but its still happening.  I haven't tried leaving the lot yet, but will do that soon.  Please help.

Also, I did take this directly to the EA forum but all I got was a "we don't help modded games, take your mods off and get back to us" which did nothing short of making me irate.  So please don't tell me I just need to take my mods out.  I will also note that I have used the Sims4Studio to repair the lights initially anyway.  I've read about deleting cache files and stuff but I'm hoping for a solution that will take MINIMAL MESSING AROUND.  (Meaning the things I mentioned above).

Also Also, I should note that I have these same mods on my desktop as well as on the laptop I had before this one.  This never happened, so I assume maybe it has to do with having the alien baby?

If you are using the cheat to hide the plumbobs over your sims this also removes the ability to modify lights in game. Is this what you are talking about? If so use the cheat headlineefects off and light functionality will return.

If this isn't your issue then maybe you are experiencing something along the lines of this reported bug. (Scroll down the post for more recent lighting issues)

Lighting Bug Report

The glitch you are experiencing is more likely due to using cheats as the devs have warned us to be careful using them as they can and do cause game issues, rather than anything to do with the alien baby.

The easiest way to test your game without your mods etc is to just simply move them all to a folder on your desk top. Then fire up your game, test the lights etc then quit without saving. That way when you put your mods etc back in your saved games will be exactly as you last played them with all the cc in place etc. It doesn't take long to do and might help pinpoint the problem.

Least that way you'll know for sure that it is not your mods/cc as if the lighting glitch continues in an unmmoded game then it most probably is a game fault/bug.

Remember to delete the localthumbcache.package file after removing your mods folder. (I do this after every play session as it helps to keep the game glitch free a little. So it won't harm or alter your saves.)

With the cooking gourmet glitch: does your sim skills panel show that she has level 10 gourmet cooking? Or just level 10 ordinary cooking?

Thank you.  I will give that a shot and see what happens.  If it was the cheats, how can I reverse the damage (so to speak)?  Or is there not a way to do that?

Not if you have saved your game unless you roll back to a previous game-save from before you used the cheats.
