Menu UI running animations too quickly
« on: January 02, 2017, 10:46:53 PM »
After getting my new laptop and installing Sims 4, I've noticed a rather unique issue as far as my game goes that I did not have on my last computer. I can confirm that my new computer is both rated past recommended settings and is a better computer than my previous one. The game itself is running smoothly except for one large and annoying hiccup. Anytime I close my laptop lid, go into Sleep Mode, even just switch windows, or speed up the simulation speed to full, the game's UI appears to be speeding up the animations, the ones that aren't meant to be sped up. Stereo music is playing at super speed even paused, the different flashing indicators such as the red glow warning you when an event is ending soon has at least doubled in speed, and even the plumbob on the loading screen is going faster than it should.

If I go without letting my computer go into Sleep Mode, don't switch windows, and never speed my game up, it doesn't happen. But avoiding those just aren't very realistic, as I do need to get up from my computer, I do need to switch to my browser to check challenge rules or keep records or just look up how to do a career, and I definitely can't just never speed up my game, because it will do that automatically when my household is asleep or at a Rabbithole (assuming it's still called that, I've played for too long).

I never noticed this until one of the newer patches, and I have a friend who has been playing for a while and is also suffering this issue. I do not have any mods or scripts running, have not installed any CC, and I recently bought City Living, but have had this issue before that purchase as well. Normally I could ignore it if I tried, but it also slowly makes my game start hiccuping, menus taking longer to open, actions not running right, and ultimately, begins freezing, and finally just crashes. Seeing as the 2017 challenges are starting, and this year I have the time to participate, issues like these are a serious wrench in anything I do.

We're not sure what it is that may be causing the issues. However, we tried to play-test these issues and couldn't replicate them. Here's some things to try:

1. Play the game in Windowed mode if you plan to switch windows often. - Go to Options. Click Game Options, Display Type: Select from Fullscreen, Windowed Fullscreen, and Windowed.
2. Try repairing the game. - In Origin, right-click the Sims 4 photo and select Repair.
3. Try uninstalling/reinstalling the game. How-To Uninstall/Reinstall

If the above doesn't work it may be best to report this bug on the AHQ forum.

This may be a long shot but I am really stumped with your bug... have you tried removing your tray folder items? (Pop them onto the desk top or somewhere for save keeping.) There was a bug before xmas that was caused by large amounts of items in tray folders. Maybe this is what you are experiencing?

I already play in Windowed mode. I tried to switch to fullscreen to see if it made any difference, but it did not.

I do not have very much on my tray, as this is a fairly new install and I didn't have any saves stored to my Origin, so I don't have my old saves either.

I will try repairing it through Origin, but seeing as I had this issue right off, I don't think it will help. Failing that, I'll try tweaking the game settings until something fixes it (or murders the game).

I also encountered this issue of the menu animations running too quickly, and this was present in-game as well for icons of tasks bubbles etc when playing in a household with sims etc, in 2020.

Background Info
- Standard Download (after xmas)
- Installed Expansion: Cats and Dogs
- No mods

Steps to Reproduce?
- Leave Game running whist computer goes into Sleep Mode overnight
- Game then has animations running too fast in menus, loading screens, and UI etc.

Rebooting the game fixed this issue for me. Perhaps not as severe as the original post since I tried rebooting the game before exploring the issue further.

I too have seen this on my sister in law's laptop. I repaired my game and did a factory reset and the issue seems to have disappeared.

Count me in as someone else who experiences this if I put my computer to sleep. It's not a big deal (not worth changing out of Windowed Fullscreen for!) but visually overwhelming. It happens with mods on and off and across two of my desktops.
