My game will not let my Sims play the guitar
« on: December 03, 2016, 10:44:14 PM »
Hi. I tried looking for another topic on this, but couldn't find one. If I was just blind, please could a mod move this.

As my title says, the game will not let any of my Sims play any of the guitars. When I click on a guitar, no options come up for me to select. And, it is only the guitars. All other instruments can be used as per normal.

I have tried clearing my cache, repairing the game, removing my CC, and, deleting and repurchasing another guitar. I have also tried exiting without saving, visiting other lots, and, nothing seems to be working. Does anyone have any ideas for me? I haven't updated to the December patch as yet.

Hi Mags have you tried with a brand new save file and new sim? Might be interesting to find out if it is just this one particular save file that is having the issue.

Seconded.....make a new sim in a new house and see what happens. If it lets you play the guitar with the new sim then it's probably a corrupted save file and unfortunately to the best of my knowledge those are pretty much impossible to fix.

I thought mine was doing that.  When the guitar is in the sims inventory and I click on it for them to play, nothing happens.  When I take it out of their inventory they have no problem playing.  I suppose it is another one of those many glitches.  I did the same as you by repairing and clean up and nothing  If I find anything that works, will let you know.

I feel like a derp lol in all that and I didn't even think of checking a new save or one of my other old ones lol

3am here, but, I have the day off tomorrow (oops, I mean today lol), so I'll try it out and feedback ;-D although, I have updated the game with the December patch, and I'm (trying) to download City Living (which an amazing Angel donated the money to me for) but, I keep getting a BSoD when it hits 90% O_O

I'm glad you could get CL, Mags 8)!  I'm sure someone here will be able to give you some tips about downloading a pack.

@Rangervegas --- It is weird that their guitars must be in their inventories for them to play them after you have OR.

That's been fixed now. I have all the packs and my sims can play the guitar regardless of where it is. I'm not sure what might be causing Mag's glitch really but testing in a new file will help narrow the problem down anyway. :)

@Playalot --- I'm glad that problem was resolved.  Thanks for letting us know :).  I haven't been to Granite Falls in 2 real time weeks.

Mags --- I hope that the glitch in your game is fixed, soon :)!

Thanks all! I keep getting that dratted BSod :-( I think I'm going to have to go through each and every driver on my laptop to see whether I have the latest updates... Either that, or, maybe finish the download on my PC and then transfer it to the laptop? Hmmm... Need to think on this.

Yea it really dosent sound like a game issue. Normaly BSOD is caused by drivers being outdated or corrupted and the program you try to run tries to use an instruction that uses the particular driver file for what it wants to do. Like using a specific driver file for a specific video resolution for example.

The next most likely culprit are actual hardware failures. Which can be bad or severe depending on what kind of hardware it says the problem is with. Depending on your version of windows you are using if you boot to the desktop and goto the control panel there will be something about "Security and Maintenance" <the name for it on win 10> On windows 7 and 8 it was called the "Action Center". That will have a timeline of sorts in there under one of the options and if you click on the date that the problem occured, you will usually see items with red X's next to them after a BSOD of some sort. This can help you narrow down what might have caused the problem, or at least what Sims 4 was trying to use that caused the BSOD.

Hope this info is some help to you, i've been working on and building my own computers since 1984 and I know what a pain it can be to find out what is causing problems sometimes.

 ;) :D

1984 O_O I was all of a year old then lol

Yeah, I ran a program called BlueView and it seems to be an issue with a kernel file. I ran sfc and dism but they can't find jack :-( I might have to run a check disk and see if that helps. I'm hoping it's not a hardware failure cuz laptop parts are mega expensivo here!

Yea Kernel failures usually have to do with something wanting to run an instruction set on the processor and the processor either dosent like the instruction set files due to corruption or age, or it could be some kind of hardware failure, but i'd say at this point a hardware failure is much less likely.

When you get a BSOD Windows can create one of several types of troubleshooting files to record what was going on when the crash occured. The people over here www.tenformus.com are some good people who will help you find the file that will be the most help to be analyzed and can usually tell you what caused the problem and what might be done to fix it. It used to be very hard to find people other than Microsoft high level techs who could analyze those files but it seems more people are dedicating some time to help people out with the analysis of these files now which is nice.

Good Luck to you..... :D
