Did campfire songs get replaced after CL? Update --- Solved!!!
« on: November 17, 2016, 02:41:33 AM »
I've been trying to get my Sims to sing campfire songs again.  They only seem to sing the new songs, now.  I really liked those songs (although, the new ones are nice). ???

I never did much with campfire songs, so I'm not sure. The new songs are nice, true, but they're not "campfire-type" songs. And I'm not sure why they would replace them, after they went through the time and expense to have the original songs recorded and included in the game. However, it would be a nice bit of cross-pack integration, which I'm always for. (It killed me in The Sims 3 how you could make a band with "Late Night" and have a player-driven singing career in "Showtime", but couldn't combine the two and have someone sing in your band.)

@Caitie --- It does make sense that they wouldn't get rid of campfire songs for the reason you mentioned.  Thanks :)

I've only played TS4, but it does sound like a drag that you couldn't have a band and someone to sing in it.  TS3 does look cool from what I've seen online and from what I've heard on this forum.

TS3 was really cool in some ways, but really not in others. For example, the Maxis-made clothes and (especially) hair was hideous. Especially the base game stuff. Especially the hair. It looked like a really bad render. TS2 hair was way better.

The open world was a game changer. It created a community feel -- you really felt like this was a real town or city somewhere. I used to get bored while my sims were sleeping, so I would zoom out and watch people driving and walking around, even on the other side of town. And the NPCs had rich lives -- they would get promoted, change careers, gain skills, fall in love, get married, have children, break up, age up, die, move away ... it actually felt like your sim was part of an active community, full of people living their own lives. A sim could literally live their entire life, from birth to adulthood to marriage to death, without ever meeting a played sim. It also meant that things like distance mattered; yeah, your sim might like it out in the country, in the rural areas around the town, but that meant that it was going to take longer to get to work, and you had to factor that in when deciding when your sim left for their job.

Of all the things I miss, the open world is hands down the big one. It's almost hard to describe to someone who's only played TS4. (No offense intended.)

However, there are things that I really love in the TS4. The CAS items are SO NICE, for example, especially when compared to what EA was giving us in TS3. I miss CASt sometimes, but not nearly as much as I thought I would. The sims themselves look fantastic. I love how pants won't clip through boots, and hair won't clip through hats. And the different packs play together so much nicer than they did in TS3. In TS3, each pack was its own entity, separate from others; in TS4, they're much more integrated. Like adding certain City Living activities such as the singing skill to the club system from Get Together, or adding the new ethnic foods to the possible dishes served at a restaurant via the Dine Out GP. And I have to admit the team is a lot more generous with stuff this time around; we vary rarely got free downloads for TS3, and when we did they were usually a merchandise tie-in with another company (like a few cars and a tshirt from Ford, or a bunch of pet-related items from Iams). The TS4 team are just like, "You know what? Here's a new hairstyle, just because. Oh, and here's a few new traits, because it was a slow Tuesday. Also, now you can lock doors and claim beds. And remember how basements came in the first EP for TS3? Screw that; here they are, totally free." Even though previously expansion packs (and stuff packs) went up $10 each with each installment, in TS4 they stayed the same; except for stuff packs, which are actually $10 cheaper now, and include an item with unique gameplay (in TS3, it was just a bunch of outfits, a few chairs, and a new hairstyle if the team was feeling generous, for $20).

I could go on and on about differences between the two games, but no one asked, and I'm not going to spam your thread any more than I already have (lol). TS3 was cool and all, and it definitely had its charms (especially for the time), but I actually tried to play it the other day and ended up uninstalling it, because I just couldn't get into it.

I found out tonight that campfire songs have not disappeared ;D!!!  Your Sim must use a camping guitar, however.  I bought expensive guitars for my city Sims, so I couldn't get them to sing campfire songs.

I just found out more:  If your Sim reaches level 10 Singing skill, they cannot --- (by my play testing --- anyway ???) sing campfire songs.  So, I set my Sim's singing skill back to 1, and she could sing campfires songs, again.

Does anyone know at which level of singing campfire songs disappear --- or is there a way for Sims to sing them still --- a way that I can't seem to figure out.

@Caitie --- TS3 sounds amazing.  I knew about open world.  That would be so cool, but I think TS4 uses different technology, so it would have really bad lag.  Each game in this series seems to have had something that people totally miss.  However, TS4 Sims have emotions, the animation/clarity of Sims and the world is better because of better graphics, and it looks even more realistic --- although, TS3 looks good --- just not quite as smooth/realistic, if you know what I mean.

Hmm. My sim was able to sing the camp fire songs on a 'normal' guitar and still can even though he has maxed singing and guitar skills. I'm not quite sure what might be going wrong for you.

@Playalot --- Thanks for letting me know that it worked in your game.  I don't know what's going on.  I can check my main family --- the Sullivans --- I already checked my sometimes suburban family and my city family, and that's what's been going on.

It's so weird, bugs show up in one game and then not the next etc. Tomorrow I'll start a new game and see how that goes. It's a bit late here for that tonight.  :)

Thanks so much, Play :)!  I hope your new game helps us to figure this out.

Also, after I get back from my hairdresser's appointment, I'll go into my main game with the Sullivan's, take them camping, and see how it goes.  I could also start a new game.

Then, both of us will have tested it!  Thanks again! :)

@Playalot

I started a new game to play test this camping song dilemma.

So, far, this is what’s been happening on their Windenburg lot.  I placed my version of Lakeside Retreat where the space for the Summer Home is in Windenburg.

No lot traits or with the great acoustics lot trait

These new 8 sims have several different aspirations and traits --- they,'re all geniuses, however.

All 8 Sims have the following skills:
Charisma 10
Cooking 10
Logic 10
Guitar 10
Singing (either level 1 or level 10)

I just had one Sim start from level 1 singing, and as soon as she began level 3, she was unable to sing campfire songs.  This is wicked bizarre.

Males and females --- married or single can sing campfire songs at 1 and 2 on any guitar ---even the §2,400 locked one.

These Sims have been happy, inspired, confident and focused while singing.

Married or single male or female --- level 10 on any guitar cannot sing camping songs.  One level 10 did sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, but that’s not a campfire song.

Campfire Songs:
I’ve been working on the railroad
Do Da
On Top of Old Smokey or On Top of Spaghetti

Also, the actual option when you click sing songs does not give you a campfire [song] choice --- or any choices.

I still need to take the Sims from my new play test game to camp in Granite Falls --- and try all of the same play testing.

Nothing changed when I took my test game Sims to Granite Falls. I don't know what's wrong with my game --- games with new Sims and my regular Sims.

I don't know what's going on with my game --- it doesn't seem to matter if I'm playing a new game or one of my 3 families (I need to see what happens with the Sullivans).

I have a city family in one game file, my Twin Oracle Point suburban family, and the Sullivan's (my main family since I started playing TS4 in September 2015.  They live on the Rippling Flats lot (which I renamed Turquoise Traditional.)

Thanks again for your help, Play :)!  Have you had any luck with a new game to play test the issues I've been having with campfire songs --- whenever you get a chance would be great  8)!  I really appreciate it.

I'm just not sure, all my test sims can sing campfire songs once they reach level 3 of the guitar skill.  I click on the guitar, click 'sing song..' and then choose 'campfire' which opens the sub menu and I can choose which camp fire song for them to sing.

I can't recreate a sim that can not sing camp fire songs!

The options to sing camp fire songs will not be available when clicking on a sim, you do have to click on a guitar for the camp fires singing to be available as camp fire singing is a guitar related animation. I wonder if that is where you are going 'wrong'?

My Sim occasionally sings the campfire songs autonomously, without the guitar. But she's still at a very low level; I don't know if her repertoire will improve.

Yes, so do my sims and yet to direct the sims they need to have a guitar. My guess is something is a bit mixed up with the change over with the new singing skill being introduced.

I think the autonomous singing is linked to 'sing songs' where a sim will just sing any song they know regardless of genre. A bit like 'practice' on an instrument or the DJ Booth where the sims will randomly select what music they play.

Play --- Thank you very much for play testing this :)!

I will try clicking on a guitar instead of a Sim.  I'll bet you're right about that.

@Marian T and @Playalot --- It's O.K. if my Sims sing campfire songs mixed in with other songs --- especially if they're singing autonomously.

I was wondered why campfire songs seemed to disappear after CL.  I will be sure to click on a Sim's guitar from now on!  I agree that this singing issue is due to the new CL skill being introduced.

Thanks for all the help :)!
