These Maids are the Worst...
« on: November 14, 2016, 11:10:00 PM »
I wish there was a career track to become a maid (or professional cleaner, of something or other) because I would literally create a Sim and invest my time in him/her to build up their career so I could turn around and hire them to clean my other Sim(s) house(s).

These "maids" (I use that term very loosely) in The Sims 4 are beyond useless. The first maid I hired showed up at like 3:30 in the afternoon the first day, went upstairs to my study, picked up a book and sat down and read for like an hour and then left, charging me some random amount of money for their "time". So, I cancelled that maid and hired another daily maid service, hoping a new maid would show up. Surprise! Nope! Same guy shows up. Oh, and I should note, while on the phone they said "thanks, someone will be by in 20 minutes", about 4 hours later the maid showed up, walked into my house, took a dirty plate out of the fridge, put in on the floor, and walked back out of the house (and charged me $182 on their way out!!!). So once again, I cancelled the service. I set up a 3rd service, this Maid was "okay", not as atrocious as the other two at least, he cleaned things once and a while anyway (and once again, its the same character as before, Sheldon something-or-other) but he doesn't show up every day... He shows up like every 2 or 3 days, regardless of my Sim's schedules and regardless of the fact that I asked for a DAILY service.

Needless to say, I've given up on maids. I very recently got the "City Life" expansion pack though... not sure if these Maids might be any better or different... Maybe I'll try when my new City Sim can actually afford one :P

Repairmenwomen don't always fix everything.  They're fine if just one item needs to be fixed, though.

I think I gave up on using service sims a long time ago, for those very reasons. The handyman maybe, if an expensive electronic breaks and my sims have low handiness skill. But forget maids or nannies.

Yeah, one time, the maid just cleaned one tub, and that's about it ???.  So, I stopped using maids.  I've never tired a nanny, but I've heard that there was a nanny bug.

Agreed. I don't know if they are just buggy or purposefully made to be useless to inspire people to really focus play around the infants or quickly age them up, or to get their own sims handy. But I know it is awesome to have a level 10 handy sim as they can upgrade things to be twice as effective and fix stuff very quickly when they rarely break.

Yeah, in my main suburban family, there are 6 young adult Sims, and they all have a level 10 handiness.  My entire 3 floor, 2 basement house with a roof deck on a 40X30 lot is upgraded --- and there are 11 bathrooms, 16 computers and many other items, which may be upgraded.

I'm curious if someone digs into the code and looks at how the game generates the service sims if it does it in a logical manner <i.e. have the maid have the Neat, Good, and perhaps Cheerful traits, along with logical skills> or if it's just a random toss of the dice? I wonder if anyone has ever gotten an Evil Kleptomaniac showing up to their house as a Nanny?  ;D ;D

On the same topic I wonder if there is a way to create a mod that lets you make a CAS sim, set it up with logical traits and maybe use cheats to level up some logical skills <like Handiness 10 for a repairman> And then have the game declare it a Service Sim of whichever type you've set up?

Would be fun to think about but alas I have about the coding experience of one of the collectible frogs in the game, and a common one at that.  ;D

I never really used those services but I do have a Gardner lately. She seems to do the job like she should, shows up every day, takes care of my plants and leaves again

@MissZoef --- I've never hired a gardener, but I'm really glad she does what she's supposed to do when on your Sims' lot :).

I'm not sure about the maids because I rarely use them and my Sims have never been friends with one. The librarians always have the neat and bookworm traits, plus one other random trait --my Sims marry librarians on a fairly regular basis. ;) The hermit always has loner, insane, and loves outdoors. So, some service NPC's have predetermined traits, but I don't think they all do.

There is a hidden 'maid' skill and they do normally have the neat trait but that is as much as I know.
