Collections Destroyed Every Generation
« on: November 11, 2016, 09:11:34 PM »
I'm up to Gen6 of my legacy file.
For the past 3 generations, every time I move out the former heir, all of the household's collections vanish.
That is, the game only recognizes collectibles in the household sims' personal inventories.
Yes, I keep all the collected items in a storage box and hang up all the prints. It's still a hassle to reconstruct the collections each generation.

Whenever I'm ready to move out a former heir, I make sure s/he is not the selected sim before going to Manage Worlds.
Do I need to always select a younger member of the household before loading the lot at the start of each gameplay session?

Any tips would be appreciated.

Are you playing the moved out sim even briefly directly after them moving? If so the game will be recognizing them as the 'active household' and so maybe all the collection data is transferring with them, rather than it being deleted?

No, once the former heir is moved out, the only thing I do is "deselect" that plumbob in the household portrait so it won't be a "played household."
I don't select their lot to play or go into CAS with them, either.

This is more annoying than game-breaking. But since it doesn't happen every time, I'm wondering if I'm just doing something in the wrong order.

It probably is something done in the wrong order but that's not very helpful until you know what it is!  :P Collections stay with the active household but if you change the household structure using Manage World>Manage Households that usually destroys them. I've found you have to use the social options for moving sims in, so the fact that you are using the Manage Households option to move sims out probably means the collections are going to be wiped if somehow you manage to deselect the active household even for a moment.

Oh I see what you're saying! I realize it's only happening when I move out a former heir + his/her spouse as a new household then move them into a some lot.
The next time, I'll try moving some not-in-the-world sim into the target lot, then move the two sims into that lot (without creating a new household).

For now, me and my OCD will just ignore the fact that all the collections look incomplete.
If I figure this out, I'll let you know.  Thanks for thinking this through with me, @Playalot

I completely forgot to mention that the worst part of my legacy household being reset when a former heir moves out:

All the career reward objects earned by household members who don't live in the house anymore become locked again.

Whenever I start a new session, I can click on a lot and then click a particular sim before loading the lot, I think I need to make sure to always click a child sim at that point.

Hmm, that really is a pain and also isn't 'right'. I can't think why that would be happening as the active household should always remain the same as in all collections and unlocks counted and accessible.
Your problem is confounding me lol I keep thinking about it and coming up blank.  :P

I never had this issue during this year's Baby Boomer Challenge, possibly because the parents never moved out, only their children.

Whenever I pick my legacy lot, I believe the game is automatically choosing my "oldest sim," unless I pick another sim to play between choosing the lot and clicking the Play button.
Anyway, I'm now choosing one of youngest sims in household before playing the lot.

I'll post back with the results of my next round of move-outs. ;-)

I wonder if that's at all related to whatever they did to mess up how career rewards are rewarded (as in the connections thing)?

Good luck, @oshizu 8)!  You'll figure it out --- or someone will come up with another suggestion.

@Whirligig

This has been happening since before the Connections trait went wonky. I've had this happen since I first started playing TS4 when I once tried rotational gameplay--the game thinks my active household is moving.

Ah, I understand.

How do you move sims out? Do you move them directly into the other house, or do you make  them 'homeless' in Household Split? A homeless household can't be the active household, so maybe you could try that, and then move them into a house later? Does that make sense?

If the problem is switching active household, maybe this will make the game realise which house is the active one.

I really don't know, as I've never had this problem. I'm just spitballing ideas here.

EDIT: I just reread the threat and saw that that's exactly what you've been doing, so ignore this. :)
