Sims Have a Woodworking Obsession
« on: November 09, 2016, 05:44:05 PM »
Since the last patch I noticed that all my sims have a woodworking obsession. The households that have one constantly use the woodworking bench when I'm not looking or giving them another task. I thought I could 'get around' it by letting an unfinished piece of woodwork sit on the bench (just like I do sometimes when they autonomously start painting, I just let a unfinished painting sit on the easel until I want them to continue doing that). But that doesn't work, they still start a new one. Am I the only one in this?  :P Silly sims, always getting obsessed over something (like the telescope, computers, gaming rig etc. haha)

I may have to put it in the familiy household inventory for now as long as I don't want them to use it.

It happened to my sims as well - right after installing City Living ;D And yes, they too ignore any unfinished item still sitting on the table and start a new one.

Same thing happened to me! My family had crafted at least a dozen knife blocks before I decided to take matters into my own hands. The workbench now lives in household inventory.

Wild.....I wonder if this is a City Living thing? I don't have the pack yet but I do have a few others. I noticed when my sims logic skill got a bit over halfway they would camp out in the telescope in my yard FOREVER. LOL I finally had to put the thing in my inventory.

Interestingly enough for me now though I do have the woodworking bench and one of my sims is lvl 10 handiness and the other one is lvl 7 and they don't seem to have an obsession with it. But then again they are both high level in gaming and they now love to camp out on the gamepad since I took the telescope away. LOL

I think the woodworking obsession might be caused by the lot trait, "Homey."
As soon as the new lot traits came out for the base game, I installed "Homey" and my sims were constantly making sculptures (oh, come on guys, you know how to make the camping mascots!).
I've removed the Homey trait just now, so we'll see if that changes things (then I won't need to keep the woodworking table locked up).

@oshizu I have it with all my save games where there is a woodworking bench, so I don't think it is caused by the homey trait. At least, I don't have lot traits on all my saves and they do it on those saves too.

How weird! For me, it suddenly started after the recent patch so I just assumed it must be the Homey trait!

That would make it a lot easier, haha. I assume it is the latest patch, because that patch causes a lot of (weird) problems for fellow simmers. Hopefully the woodworking obsession won't be forever :D

No lot traits used in my Apocalypse Challenge but the wood working bench is irresistable. I had 20 unfinished sculptures in family inventory from where they had been restarted over and over.  My sims will go down 2 floors to use it.  Not sure if it's mod related, I have loads in use at the moment.

Crinrict has a thread on it here:
http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-4-Bug-Reports/OPEN-Sims-Obsessed-with-Workbench/td-p/5675325

I'm going to add a 'me too' if it happens in a mod free game.

I don't use mods so it's not mod related. Thank you for posting the thread.

Just been on EA Answers and Crinrict is treating it as an issue needing feedback rather than an outright bug.  I've added my experience to help keep the discussion going as it's happening unmodded for me also.

@HelenP

Thanks for the link to the EA Answer HQ thread, Helen! I added a "Me, too" as well.
