Saving a Town?
« on: October 27, 2016, 12:22:06 AM »
Hello, there. Just wondering if anyone knows how I can save a town and use it for future games? (If it's possible) I want to completely replace all lots of Bridgeport with my own venues. I'd like to still have Bridgeport, but also have like a Bridgeport 2.0.

Thank you!

Pick Bridgeport from the Main Menu. And use Save As to save it. Give it a name like BP-01 and edit it using Edit Town.

When I did this with Sunset Valley (SV-01). I used Save As often, giving it similar names (SV-02; SV-03 etc.) If/when I wanted to play test it I'd do so with a copy of my original save.

I do what MrsFlynn suggested all the time and would recommend the same thing myself. I hate the default placements of lots, especially expansion lots, in many towns, and it's a huge time-saver to be able to go into an already modified base town to start fresh.

One tip I would add is to put the rabbit hole buildings with careers on an empty lot before you demolish anything. (Moveobjects cheat will allow you to fit them all, and it will only be there temporarily so there's no need to worry about sims being able to path to it.)  Otherwise, if you demolish a rabbit hole building, any sims in town who had an established career (generally, sims that would be your sims' bosses and co-workers when joining specific careers) in it will be reverted to unemployed and randomly assigned wherever.  But if you have those, the career statuses won't be harmed if you delete and move places like city hall, the police station, and such.  Then, when all the lots are how you like them, you can delete your temporary rabbit hole lot and put whatever you want there.

That said, it's not necessary, especially if you don't care about households you won't be playing, but for me it's just personal preference.
