Paparazzi in the Chess Circuit
« on: December 01, 2010, 08:08:36 PM »
Hey, all,

I've been working on a character with the lifetime want of Chess Master.  Things were going well until she hit Level 3, at which point her next opponent was a Paparazzi.

This Paparazzi frequently won't come over when she's called.  Even when she does come, she never plays a chess game in its entirety.  As near as I can figure, she's got a constant queue telling her to seek out and photograph celebs, and this always causes her to abandon the chess actions.

Anyone else had this problem?  Can anyone suggest a workaround?

Andrew

A possible solution is to kill the opponent or move them in. :o I know killing sounds a bit on the dark side, but it will force a new opponent to be draw.

If you it him her, there are several methods.
1. Invite the sim over and build a wall around her
2. Invite the sim over a get her in a pool and build walls around it, so she can't get out.
3. Invite the sim over and start a fire and hope she dies in it.

Or... Ask the sim to join your household. (I think this will force a new opponent)

I would recommend inviting her to move in with you and then moving her out.

Hmmmm...an interesting dilemma and one I might have to make cheat exceptions on in event #2 of next year's Tournament. What might be the simplest solution is to allow players to delete a bugged chess opponent Sim. But, everyone will be working against the clock to see how quickly one can get the Grand Master title, so time will still be gobbled up. I predict some frustration.

Although it was good thinking, moving in is not an option Andrew. My sim once was waiting for a new opponent, but the it kept saying 'She is already on your lot.' And so she was, it turns out to be the challenger's own wife! :O Well, how's that for asking for trouble. I see a relationship therapy nearby if she don't let him win. Not good for the manly ego I can tell.

I've tried building a wall around the paparazzi and they just vanish after a short time. I got tired of them hanging around my house (especially after one stole candy from one of my toddlers) and decided to rid the world of the menace, but sadly, no luck.

I've been able to get the paparazzi to leave for awhile by doing a couple of mean interactions, but they return by the next day.

We can't ask them to quit their job, can't we? That would be a good solution.

I've found that the paparazzi will leave if you do friendly interactions with them also.  In my dynasty, I finally decided since the paparazzi were always hanging around, my sims might as well befriend them.  But every time my sims tried, the paparazzi would run off after a couple of interactions.

if you don't mine cheating you could invite her over and erase her. though personally I don't like cheating. but sometimes the game glitches force you to.

It doesn't even sound logical that the sim my sim was calling never show up to do a chess
match. I mean, my sim is a level 5 celebrity which you can compare to saying no to Madonna or Robin Williams over and over again afther they inviting you to come over! :O
Solution? Yes I have.
Go to China. People there are more friendly and willing to help (by losing chess matches) and you will be a Chess King in no-timel ;)

I've found myself with a similar problem since getting Late Night for Christmas.  I've never really done the chess circuit before, but my Legacy heir has a lifetime wish to be a grandmaster, so he's been spending all his free time (currently a teen) calling ranked players over.  I don't know if the issue is paparazzi, but one woman just refused to show up no matter how often he called her.  So I went into edit town mode and deleted her.  The next opponent died during his game, which was just plain bad luck, but you can imagine my disgust at the time!  Next opponent was no issue, but now I'm stuck with another person who will not show up.  I even tried getting another family member to invite her over (they're good friends) with no joy.

I really wanted him to get his wish before aging up to adult, but over the course of a weekend, I've only succeeded in having one successful match.  I think I might have to try this trip to China, because having to delete people one by one is tedious.  I want to get the Chinese incense burner anyway....  Still, if anybody comes up with alternatives, please say!

The issue with paparazzi opponents can also happen in China - it happened to a previous sim of mine who was working on the martial arts tournament.

I don't know of any alternatives, but you might try using a sim with the Legendary Host LTR to invite the sim in question to a party at your house. If I remember correctly, all sims invited by one with that LTR show up for the party. But I haven't tried it myself.

OK... update.  Tried getting a Legendary host to invite the next chess opponent to a party--this is the same Sim who is a good friend of the chess opponent.  She still didn't come.

Tried going to China, but I don't have the option to invite a chess opponent round there.  I assume I need a vacation home first?  Since all my sims are visa level zero right now, that's not really going to be viable.

It looks like I'll just have to delete the opponent when I get back from China.  Sigh...

You don't need a vacation home to invite chess opponents over.  My sims have done it at the Academy.

Thanks for the tip!  I tried at the base camp since there's a chess table there.  I'm about to fire up the game again, so I'll try from the academy next.

Edited to note: still didn't work.  I tried at the academy and the scholar's garden, but in both cases the option was greyed out.  Perhaps this is something they 'fixed' with Late Night?  Or do I just have a glitched game?
