How Good Is Dragon Fish as Fertilizer?
« on: December 05, 2009, 10:05:21 PM »
When I was playing after the new expansion pack World Adventures came out, I saw that when you are fertilizing, there is a new option to fertilize the whole garden with best fertilizer and my Sim used a Dragon Fish over a life fruit. So how is a Dragon Fish as fertilizer compared to a life fruit? Does it speed up the growth more and/or last longer than a life fruit?

Welcome to our Forum!

Dragon Fish and Life Fruit are both rated Outstanding for fertilizer.  You may want to take look at the fertilizer section of the Gardening Guide on our main site for more detailed information.  The link is here:

I know that both are outstanding but I asked how much better Dragon Fish is when my sim thinks it is when given the option. Dragon Fish dos add 3 day to fertilization over Life Fruit Ive fond but. I can't find any thing that even mentions Dragon Fish as a fertilizer so I wanted to see how you guys rated it as a fertilizer, you know like how many days or how much it speeds up grow over other fertilizers.

Hmmm, I think I will have to do some testing to see just how much better it is then life fruit and garlic.  Do remember that garlic is very easy to come by and that is the reason it is recommended so strongly.

Right. I don't see any logical reason to use anything other than Garlic, surely not Dragon Fish. Garlic has a very nice duration of 6 days base and up to 9 with challenges and perfect (I think)

I love garlic!
And you can steal it from Gobias Koffi right from the start. :)

I always use garlic as my fertilizer. It lasts longer.

I am, and always will be, an apple guy. Apples may not be the most perfect choice, but a perfect apple gives a reasonable fertilizer (especially with all gardening challenges done) and since it's such a basic plant you could get huge amounts from every single harvesting. Some plants give just out so much more fruit above the more rare ones.

Let's see, life fruit, garlic and dragonfish are usually great, but from one of the plants you maybe get 2-4 max per harvest, and if you're growing dragonfish with the omniplant, about the same. To sustain a huge garden you would need whole plantations just to grow fertilizers! With good ol' apples on the other hand, you could sustain your whole backyard with just 2-3 trees with almost the same quality!!! :o

I just use the "fertilize garden with best fertilizer" option.  Does it really matter all that much if the garden isn't being hit with garlic, dragonfish, lifefruit or whatever?  I hope not, cause doing each one one at a time is so tedius to me!

Using that option will indeed put the best fertilizer on your garden, but you need to have the highest quality fertilizers in your inventory for it to use.  If your highest quality fertilizer is limes, it will use those.  Better to have life fruit in your inventory for it to pull from.

Or apples...
I still think life fruits, garlic and dragonfish are over-rated. Apples are perfect for fertilizing.
But then you can't use that "fertilize garden with best fertilizer", of course. But still...

Swede,

I've read your arguement about apples for fertilizer, but it really is one of the lowest quality fertilizers.  You get much better results with the highest quality fertilizers.  This has been tested repeatedly by Carl and other members of this forum.  Sure, apples are good at the beginning when you don't have much of anything else.  But if you've got better, then use it.

But if you've got better, then use it.

Agreed. And if your gardener is also into high-value nectar making, then your Sim will inevitably be hoarding key ingredients. If that's the case, DO NOT click "Fertilize garden with best ingredients" while those valuable nectar ingredients are in your Inventory.

Yes, true what Metro said.  If you're hoarding ingredients, move them to the refrigerator to keep them from being used for fertilizer.  Or make sure you have extra for both purposes.

If I use the "fertilize garden with best fertilizer" will it always start with the available life fruit? Or are there other ingredients better according to the system?
