Before installing an Update for The Sims 3, an Expansion Pack, or a Stuff Pack, it is a good idea to run through the following checklist to ensure your game continues to work smoothly.

If you have any questions about the below steps, please visit the Technical Support forum on the official Sims 3 community found at this URL: http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/forums/show/10.page

Step 1: Disable Custom Content

Custom Content is all Sims content that did not come from an official The Sims 3 Update, The Sims 3 Store, Expansion Pack, or Stuff Pack. Custom Content is created by 3rd Party Developers that are not regulated by Electronic Arts or The Sims 3 Development Team and may not work with new updates. Custom Content may cause the game to behave unexpectedly or not function entirely.

To disable your custom content, undo whatever you did to install this content to get your game back into an unmodified state. If you placed it in a Sims 3 directory folder, move it to a new folder that is outside your Sims 3 file directory. Your Sims 3 file directory can be found using the paths listed below:

Windows File Directory: C:\Documents and Settings\USER\My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3

Mac File Directory: User/Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims/
Once you have installed the official update you may re-enable your custom content. If you experience problems, disable it again until the 3rd party developer updates their content to work with the official Update, Expansion Pack, or Stuff Pack.

Step 2: Back Up your Save Files

It’s always a good precaution to back up your save files before installing an Expansion Pack, Update, or Stuff Pack. To do this, copy the “.sims3” folders found in the Saves folder onto your desktop or another file directory.

Your Sims 3 Saves folder can be found using the paths listed below:
Windows File Directory: C:\Documents and Settings\USER\My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Saves
Mac File Directory: User/Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims/Saves
After the Update is installed, run the game to verify your saves still function correctly.

Step 3: Let the Update Complete Entirely

Updates can sometimes be rather large and may take a while to download and install completely. Cancelling the update before it has completed may cause unexpected problems, so it is always best to let it finish entirely. Do not close the Launcher until you have confirmed the update is completely installed, as this will cancel the update.

Note:  I changed the title of this post to reflect the specific name of the update.  -Pam

And I interpreted that to mean the amount of tips were not reduced. No?

Did I miss something, or am I right in NOT seeing a fix for the travel bug?
What?  Grannies can't play games?

That's not how I interpret it. Either way it's good. I actually hope subway tips are slashed in this new patch because it was totally broken. But, it's nice that at least tips will go towards the band career.

I agree, Metro.

Joria, don't hold your breath on the travel bugs. That's three expansions ago and likely no longer any sort of priority for EA. Where's the money in fixing old stuff?

I was surprised not to see anything about salvaging at junkyards, which I guess are just junk.

Edit: I just tried out subway tips after the patch. My band members can each play at separate subway locations and earn $300-1100 per tip at a pretty fast rate. The money is now applied to the band job. Notices came up mentioning that their band will be asked to play gigs, the more time they play in the subway to give them exposure.

True, Llama mama, but they did fix something in the base game, Ambitions and WA so it's frustrating to have to put up with it if it's still broke.  sigh

You guys keep talking about playing for tips IN the subway.  How do you do that when it's basically a rabbit hole?

Click on the subway entrance and it will give you the option to play for tips if you have enough musical skill.  Then your Sim disappears inside and starts playing.  ;D

Hmmm ... as noted above, the major failures in WA have been ignored.

@ LlamaMama ... I take your point about EA not fixing "old stuff", but if they don't it will surely lead [as in my case] to a loss of confidence in EA products and a strong dis-inclination to buy any more.  At the very least EA should admit they have a big problem with WA, and say they're working on the fix [even if that's not true!!].

I really hope this is the right place to post this, and I'm really sorry if it isn't.
Ever since I updated my game, my Sims have been very demanding with regards to happiness. My current Sim has 3 moodlets, adding up to +45, but his mood is 'uncomfortable', and he's frowning. Has anyone else experienced this, and do you know why this is happening?

Something's wrong with your game. Maybe just try restarting to see if that clears things up. I just patched up myself and did a little test, and with only a single +40 Having a Blast moodlet, my Sim's Mood Meter was still at Very Happy.
