SSD for the Sims 3 and 4
« on: September 14, 2016, 02:14:31 PM »
Hello,

So I'm thinking about getting an SSD (120GB) And I want to know if how much space it would take up if I save The Sims 3 and 4 on it, with the Sims 3 I have every expansion pack, every stuff pack, and most store content, and is there any noticeable different from an HDD to an SDD?

Hi @SamPlaysSimGames. I made the switch from an HDD to an SSD about two years ago and it truly does make a difference. Especially with TS3. Not all games have noticeable performance upticks with SSDs, but a category of those that do are open-world ones. Like The Sims 3. :P

I have a 256GB SSD and about 60GB free on it right now after installing both games and all packs/DLC/etc (my collection for both games isn't complete but it's pretty close), having very big CC collections for both, and having other files on the computer too (pictures, old school documents, other smaller games). You probably could make 120GB work if you're smarter about it than I am.

Thank you for replying so fast! How much does the game take up? And from someone who is new to getting an SSD, do you have to put every ep and sp on the SSD?

The Sims 3 Install folder is 33.6 GB. Sims 4 is 16.4 GB. The user folders for these games will vary in size. Depending on what you have downloaded into the game in the way of store content, custom content and game mods.

To get best results you want to install the whole game or both games on the SSD.

However, if you'd like you can change the drive that it saves the user folders on.

You can also change the install location for the game if needed -

The posts are in the Sims 4 section, but will work for Sims 3 as well.
