A very, complicated problem after file recovery *Fixed!!*
« on: August 31, 2016, 09:59:57 PM »
Sometime last week I was trying to back up my Sims 3 stuff but ended up deleting it all instead. Searched until earlier today for a file recovery program that could recover not just the files, but the folder structure too, without costing me anything. I finally found one. So I went through the recovery process and the game started up fine, but the saves were looking screwy at the main menu - no picture, etc, and the one save I really care about was inaccessible completely, telling me "This save can't be loaded. It may have been saved with expansion packs that are no longer installed on this system," Took that literally at first glance, installing the only EP I have that I haven't actually installed (because I am still not quite at the point in the story where Into the Future is required). That obviously did not work. I then looked up the error, which told me the Meta.data file might be missing. This is where my struggles really get puzzling. I looked. There were multiple copies of practically every file, including Meta.data. So naturally what was the next thing I tried? Deleting all the extras. That didn't work either. I then checked one of the other saves that actually would let me push play, and it gave me the "serious error" that we all hate. Is there anything I can do ?? Not having access to the saves for an entire week was frustrating enough but appearing to recover it all only to find it still does not work just makes things infinitely worse!

I've gotten that that message before ["This save can't be loaded. It may have been saved with expansion packs that are no longer installed on this system,"]

This was happening due to not having Riverview installed at the time. So that could be something to consider.

There might be game mods that may help fix the game saves. I'm not fully sure about this. So it maybe a good idea to ask at Nraas's site to see if they have any ideas that might help if you haven't already.

Thanks MrsFlynn, your solution has the problem 99.9% fixed...except now we are stuck at the town loading screen...you know that thing where we get the progress bar 99% filled, but never actually finishes loading? I've been able to fix the problem quickly in the past but my "quick fix" isn't working this time. Now what?

Thank you for the update!! I've had the forever loading bar too. That could mean that is has become corrupt. :(

After getting a new computer I tried an older save game that was giving me a forever loading bar, just as a test to see if it would load. I tried everything I could think of, from a factory reset giving it a new meta.data file, clearing cache. But unfortunately that didn't work.

I did have the family and their house backed up. So what I did was take those files into a new game. From what I was able to tell that game was corrupted and couldn't be saved.

Here's a post I wrote that has a few other tips to try:

Game Won't Fully Load - Save slow loading

Hopefully one of these tips will work for you!! :)

Hi, sorry it took so long to post an update. In the end it seems I was unable to fix the problem. So I threw my hands up in the air and attempted to start a new game, but the same problems are affecting my ability to do so. I have tried reinstalling my game, deleting my mods...just everything I could think of. But I still can't manage to start a new game even...What am I supposed to do now?
