Author Topic: Help needed with corrupt save files Fixed!! (Read 4561 times)

I am using CAW to create my own custom world. I have done this successfully once before.

The current world that I am working on, when I upload test versions into the game it seems to run fine but when I save and quit to main menu the save file immediately shows up greyed out and says that the file is corrupted and that it may be because it contains expansion packs that are no longer installed. So I can't then continue to run the save file.

It happens on the first save so obviously there's no back up version I can revert back to.

I am still in the testing stages but obviously want to get the problem fixed before I am ready to upload the final version.

Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated as I can't seem to find any threads about this issue.

I found the solution courtesy of someone lovely over at mod the sims, and it is the simplest most annoying thing ever!

It was because the world name had a period/full stop in it! I was calling them 'test version 1.0' etc and as soon as I took out the punctuation it was problem solved!

I've heard of this happening before. I can't remember where though. So I did a search on it and found something that might help.

It is suggested to replace the Meta.data file.

Can't access files? (Possible Solution) - For missing meta.data file

Thank you for the reply! There is a Meta.data file there, I didn't have time today to replace it and test again, I will do so later.

I'm not sure if that will solve the problem though as it is happening with all new save files in this one world, all my saves on EA and other custom worlds are still fine so there must be something in my world causing the bug.

I uploaded an older backup version of my world which is only half finished to test it and those saves got corrupted too

I thought maybe I had used some custom content which I've uninstalled but I don't think that's it either as the older backup version I tested didn't have any cc at that point.

I have spent months on this world so I will be so frustrated if I can't save it

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be very much support or many troubleshooting tips for the CAW program. So there is very little to go on.

The error: Cannot load this save game. It may have been saved with expansion pack data that is no longer present on this system.

Could mean that expansion(s), stuff pack(s) or store worlds have been uninstalled.

If you had custom content or store items installed that are no longer installed it would give you an error message of: Some objects could not be loaded and were replaced. But the game can still be played.

Did you maybe uninstall any expansions/stuff packs or store worlds that were used in making of the world you're creating now?

No, I haven't uninstalled any expansion or stuff packs. I have basically just been building this world and playing one or two other save files in the meantime so nothing has changed. I don't even use my pc for anything else.

I did download some cc but have tried uploading older backup versions of the world without the cc in it and i get the same problem so that cant be it.

I'm sorry, I'm out of ideas to try. I'm not familiar with the program. I'm not even sure where to suggest to go for answers. As like I said above there doesn't seem to be a lot of support for CAW.

I tried to search some more on the problem. Cause it's been bugging me that it's been causing problems.

I honestly don't know if any of the links below will help. But I thought I'd share them just in case. Also, there's someone who created a tutorial site for CAW that might (?) be able to help. I figure it might be worth emailing them to see if they can help.

Yay!! I am happy you were able to find a solution!! Now that you say something I do remember reading a long while ago that you have to name your files a specific way in order for both programs to read them.
