Cannot buy anything

When i play sims 4 and go into build mode on my family it says i have no money but when i go to play mode i have 50 000. my friend says that the money is shown like it is in the get to work expansion pack but we dont have any expansion packs. I have no idea what to do. I have 4children and 3grown ups to feed and we are missing a bed. Cannot buy anything!!!
