Tutoring Children
« on: November 27, 2010, 05:45:34 AM »
As part of one of my dynasty Sims logic supermax challenges She has to teach children/students for so many hours. Every time she tutors a child or a teen it shows up as hours taught to other Sims.
I have tried teaching every child she can find including the paper boy. She even accepted an opportunity to teach a teenager and that didn't show up either. It is driving me mad that is all she needs to do to complete all the skill challenges. I had no problems with this until two days ago.

Make sure you're using the correct interaction.  The tutoring interaction for children and teens is under the Friendly section.

If the interaction is available when you first click on the Sim, then it's the wrong one.  You need to click on the Sim, then click Friendly, then click Tutor.

If the interaction is available when you first click on the Sim, then it's the wrong one.  You need to click on the Sim, then click Friendly, then click Tutor.

So there are actually two interactions with the exact same name? That is refer confusing. Don't they have to have a little difference compared to each other?

The one for tutoring children is under the friendly interactions and is called "Tutor."  The one for adults is an interaction when you first click on the other Sim and says "Tutor In" and then you select the skill to tutor.

Tutor and Tutor In. Oke.
To make that even more confusing there is also Teach, but only for foreign country songs, to get confused. :P

I believe we are the only two online here at the moment Pam. :)

I am going to teach logic to, in a while for a new sim. But is there a difference between Tutor and Tutor in? Unless I have misread something.

Yes, they are two separate things.  One tutors children (looks like doing homework) and the other tutors adults in a specific skill.

Aha, and they both teaches skills, but only one of them (Tutor In) will be calculated under the Teach Such Amount Of Hours To Children? I do believe that was exactly what rachie was looking for. :)

Also, I do believe that if you are going to make a teacher sim you will doing great if that sim is going in the school career. At level 10 he or she will be able to teach other sims even faster.
If you combine that with a level 10 logic skill, maxed challenges an the teacher is teaching a Fast Learner vampire kid with an exelent relationship, while the Chinese smell chandel (forgot the name) is nearby than, well, maybe that sim will max a skill from zero to full within five hours? Just a wild gumble.
I believe such this powerfull combination of teaching combination is worth mentioning in the guide maybe? :)

Wow, I am not even off topic! :D

I know I'm reviving this thread, but I found a weird glitch when tutoring children for school, and I figure this is better then starting a new thread.

I had a teen who had been caught pranking the school, and was thusly grounded.  I wanted her father (who's going for Supermax Logic in my Dynasty) to tutor her, since she hadn't been to school yet, and he needed the tutoring hours. (And I figured it was completely in character to have her father plunk her down at the table for extra lessons.)

The option to tutor her was there, under friendly, but every time I tried, the game came up with the pop-up of 'you can't do that, you're grounded' (I'm paraphrasing, as I don't remember exactly).

I had to have him un-ground her to be able to tutor her.

Has anyone else run into this?

Well, perhaps being grounded is also supposed to act as a "weapon" against raising school performance, and since tutoring raises the meter, it logically would be locked till you un-ground the kid. ;)
Well, that's your opinion, isn't it? And I'm not about to waste my time trying to change it. - Lady GaGa

Huh, maybe.

Like I said, I just figured it was fitting punishment.

If I get the chance I'll run some tests.

Which tutoring option did you choose?  Was it the one that teaches them a skill or the one under friendly interactions?
