Thinking of buying Sims3 for PS3, need advice
« on: November 25, 2010, 11:30:28 PM »
Anyone have this game?  Obviously we have the pc version but the kidlet is getting a PS3 for Christmas and we're thinking of getting Sims3 for her for that game.  Is the play different?  Easier?  Harder?  Heard of possible expansions?  What about cost? Do you like it as much as console game if you have both?  Any input would be appreciated.
What?  Grannies can't play games?
I speak perfect Nooblik, (and some Simlish)!

I'm moving this to the new Sims 3 on Console Board.

I got it about two weeks ago. It isn't as good as the PC but it has a lot of enjoyment. Be careful saving.

Gameplay is similar to the PC version with no expansions. There are a few changes such as the Karma powers, the Challenges and the town isn't as open as the PC version (it is smaller and split in to sections that must be loaded as you travel between sections). There is zero gameplay differences between the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions.

Some of the Challenge rewards are similar to items that can be purchased from the Store for the PC version (such as some of the Steampunk items), but most of the Challenge items are Karma powers and career outfits. As you complete Challenges, you earn Challenge Points that can be spent in the in-game Challenge Shop. Some Challenge Shop items must be unlocked before they can be purchased.

Graphic wise, the game isn't as detailed as the PC version, but is certainly detailed enough. Most of the patterns and colors are available in CAS, and customized items can be saved not only to the hard drive, but can be uploaded to a console version of The Exchange. There is also a Sims Store, but there doesn't seem to be anything there quite yet. Though that may have changed by now. It's been about a week since I last played it (been a little busy with Bioshock 2, heh).

I've also noticed a difference between how many stories you can build. I've seen five story (is that the correct grammer?) houses on the PC and I can only build three. A version of create a style comes with the disk and I can't seem to cancle the newspaper!

3 stories is the usual limit on the PC, but you can in special cases get them higher. Although, then it may not look very good. :)
Of course that is if we disregard the basement tool. :-X

I wish I had the basement tool. But how did you get four stories?

"I've never played it on PC, but the PS3 version is worth the money.  I've heard there are a lot of glitches, but I've had the PS3 version since the day it came out and I haven't had any major glitches that some people have had.  The game is pretty addicting.  It's a lot of fun.  Mine of 60 bucks, but the cost might depend on where you live.  There's not as much stuff as I thought there was going to be, but you can customize everything."

Hi, Swede.

I think it's 4 stories for the PS3/Xbox 360/PC unpatched versions, and 5 stories above and 4 stories below on the PC version with patches/expansions.

Well for one, I felt A bit claustrophobic of the ps3 one It doesn't feel as open. Also Someone should note that there is loading on the ps3 version! One last note is that even on the highest speed it seems that time goes by too slowly.

For some reason there is double speed, triple speed and a speed that is supposed to go faster than triple speed but is the exact same!

The fourth "speed" is the same as the PC version's "fourth" speed. It runs triple speed until the current task is finished, then drops to the normal speed.

The town isn't as big as Sunset Valley and it's split into sections (same for the Xbox 360 version). There are load screens between sections of the town, but they aren't too bad compared to some of the games I've played. The biggest thing I miss is not having an Edit Town mode to build houses without needing to use the Sim family's money. And the way they did the color sliders makes it difficult to match colors.

I did create a pretty decent recreation of TommyT's Summerhouse from his Home Building guide. It even cost less than the price listed in the guide. I used the 1 bd. 1 ba. house in the lower left corner of Moonlight Bay (110 Easy Street). After selling the original house, I actually ended up with more money than I started with. I'm planning on building the other houses in the guide as I go along.

One thing I noticed in decorating the house. Landscaping works very differently. In the console versions, you create a palette of four terrain paints and that's all you can use. If you replace one of the terrain paints (say, sand for grass), it will replace the original paint with the new paint over the entire lot (e.g. your house looks like it's in the desert). I found that out when I tried to layer some flowers using the terrain paints, and my nice purple flowers were replaced with yellow flowers, heh.
