Look Out for the Tragic Clown, Now Available in The Sims 4

21 APRIL 2016
BY  SIMGURUGNOMECOMMENT

We’re Sorry

This is awkward. We wanted to add a new feature to The Sims 4 to make your Sims happier so we made a clown, but there seems to have been some sort of accident. Clowns are supposed to make people smile, right? Well, not this clown. This clown only makes people sad. It’s tragic, really. And totally accidental…

Just kidding. We made this clown bad at clowning around intentionally! Fans of the original The Sims might remember the classic Tragic Clown, a character that walked around making everyone miserable. The loveable(?) character is now back, free* in The Sims 4. If that doesn’t make you happy… well, the clown isn’t going to either. The Tragic Clown only makes Sims sad.

The Tragic Clown will be appearing around the world if you download the latest update to The Sims 4, so you’ll never know when this sad soul will show up and botch a juggling attempt. You can also summon him (or her, catastrophic tomfoolery is equal opportunity,) by viewing the Tragic Clown Painting, or you can even dress up in the Tragic Clown outfit if you want your Sim to be the bearer of bad fun. We’re excited to see how much your Sim loves this new addition to the game!

There are two one ways the clown will appear in your game. (See edit below)

1. Purchasing the Tragic Clown painting and having your sim view it a few times until the NPC Tragic Clown appears.
2. A random chance of the Tragic Clown NPC spawning on a retail lot. There is nothing in the tuning files about the clown spawning randomly on community lots of home lots.

Viewing the painting "summons" them. This is like the radar dish making your Sim more likely to be abducted by aliens. I think that this is entirely optional so I am not looking at adding any kind of bypass for the clown for this. If you make sure the painting doesn't exist anywhere in your world, nobody will stumble into it by accident or anything.
On a retail lot, there is a random chance for a clown to appear and walk down the street juggling every now and then. This one I can see about getting rid of with a setting. I don't see any tuning files that support that it can happen just anywhere. No home lots, no parks or venues, etc.
Thanks!

As you can see from following the link to deaderpools original post he is in the process of modding out the random spawning for those of you who don't want any clown encounters of the tragic kind whatsoever!

***EDITED: Even better news, it appears now that Deaderpool has had more time to look at the tuning files that the Tragic Clown is only user generated. The ONLY way to summon the Tragic Clown is to view the painting. Woo!

The clown that can randomly spawn on a retail lot is just an ordinary townie in a costume and not the Tragic Clown.
