This keeps happening even after you close the game and restart?

Yes, it does.

Thats exactly whats happening to my games. I have a 2 month new computer, iMac, this past September.
Before that I was running Sims3 and all expansion packs on a 2 year iMac (with the exception of the latest patch, Barnacle Bay and Late Night)
and never ran into this particular problem.
For me, this all started with the latest patch and Late Night.
A friend of mine has a brand new iMac also and having the same problem.

I have also shut it down many, many times and doesn't help. I also shut down without saving the game, doesn't help
I've also tried deleting my Sims wishes, Deleted the lots, left them empty, No Visitors, doesn't help.
I've tried deleting the 4 cache files, DCBackup, Screenshot, and reset all the sims, renamed my 'Sims 3 folder" to "Sims 3 backup,"
but they keep returning to it.

When starting a new game everything runs perfect.  Something triggers these Sims to go to a lot and once that happens,
that's when all the slow/choppy/pausing starts occurring.
This is why there is no one in the clubs. No mixologist, invites to parties and the Sim who is having the party is not home because
they are all stuck on a lot. I've tried having parties and some Sims do not show up because they are stuck on the lot.

@Niuri-Are you on a Mac or PC-just curious

And my PC is one of the fastest on the planet probably. :P An absolute monster rig. So honestly it's a tech issue in the programming or how the Sims handles gameplay. Going to use a tool to shut down 3 of my 4 CPU cores and see if that makes a difference.

Latest patch did not solve this problem. I sent pictures and message with references to these posts to EA- Lets see if they come back with any helpful responses.
I'll keep you posted

Let us all hope that we can fix this easily and won't have to wait for another patch...

Because frankly I stopped playing, not only is it bothersome buy restarting a Sim is playing in fear of it recurring also. Even if you load working saves, something may already be in motion in that save to triggeer it later.

To keep this going in the hopes that more information is helpful, I too have the issue where the game pauses, sorta, without actually pausing. Butterflies, trees and the environment in general, too include the plumbob continue as normal but all Sims stop for a few seconds and then continue for a few seconds and then stop again, over and over. Oddly this only happens in China, nowhere else. I believe this thread contains at least two separate issues, this one and the one in which a bunch of Sims gather in one spot, but with similar symptoms. (I haven’t played Bridgeport, so I can’t comment, but the bars I’ve created in SV have not had any problems as of yet, knock on wood)

Too give a bit of background, I've got as close to an uber computer as I can afford. I can play anything on the highest of settings. It is a PC. I have everything thing as far as EP's and Stuff Packs and a lot from the EA store but just a few CC (cars) from outside sources. Oh, and a mod that fixes an excavation site issue I have been having. But in an attempt to find the issue, I have taken everything out and ran clean but the problem still existed, and still only in China.

I will say that I was playing in China when I found this thread and was at the time experiencing the problem. One of you fine people posted the “resetsim *” and it worked like a charm. A Sim day or two later and still running fine. So yeah, I gotta say there’s a pathing issue somewhere. I have made several attempts to locate it and while I haven’t found it I have also not found any large group of Sims gathered in a single location. Or a small group for that matter. Which leads me to believe we’re talking about two separate problems.  That’s my two cents, thanks for listening. Les.

Welcome to the forum Les.  Yes, quite a few of us has the same problems.  I do notice on bigger files, that there is a slow down issue and I can't even play Riverview anymore, invisible sims, slow movements, etc.  The other towns are fine, go figure.  I only travel with one sim now or two, if they are not married yet, so I have not seen any problems traveling like that.  With so many people experiencing this, it more than likely has something to do with the game, but I could be wrong.  Hope you enjoy our little forum, or should I say "getting bigger forum". ;D

EA supposedly have the reputation for terrible coding and leaving over-elaborating much of their code. I guess the game wants to do too much at once, in too many steps to process the moment something botches up in your game.

I have this EXACT problem. I've just gone into the last tomb in China, and my game suddenly started doing this weird "stutteringbutnotreallystuttering" thing. The plumbob (this is the mood thing above their heads right?), ZZZs, musical notes, etc all move no problem. I try to move around the world, it stops-starts, and whatever my sim does anything (the only one under my control), it's the same.

I am close to just going back to my none explorer sim :(

I called him Theisiger as well.

Well, I haven't found anything new about that sims gathering problem, but I have the other one now! The game started pausing from time to time while some stuff is moving normally (like ringing cellfone's notes or the trees). After a few seconds it unpauses and I continue to play. I don't have the WA expansion, so this is weird.

This same choppy motion just started happening to me today.  I have the World Adventures expansion and no mods.  I played all weekend with no problems, taking trips to China and France with multiple sims.  Last night I downloaded and installed Barnacle Bay, but I have not used it yet.  Today I took 1 sim to China and the choppy motion started while he was there.  It actually ran smoothly until I had the sim buy all the relics from the store and pick up the Mysterious Master Manchu Gnome.  After picking up the gnome, the game went choppy.  When the sim returned from China, things seemed to return to normal.  I will have to play more to see if the problem recurs.

I literally cannot visit China anymore. A real flaw in WA if you ask me.
