Have a question about homework. :)
« on: March 21, 2016, 04:41:15 PM »
Hi again, I'm just curious about doing homework.  My 3 teens keep A grade at school now. The performance bar has reached to the end of right. I came across they can get a part time job through a computer. So I want to try that but doing homework takes long time around 3 to 4 hrs include the additional point homework.  Will they keep their current grade at school though they don't do their homework? Just I want them to go to school in focus emotion only. Will they be dropped down to grade B?

I would just keep an eye on it.  If you see it slipping too low, have them do their homework.  Though I'm surprised it takes them so long to do it if they're A students.  Do you have parents help with homework?  That cuts the time in half, if I remember right.

When they are back from school, their fun bar is olive color. Sometimes it's red. So I need to let them have fun first, then it's about 5 o'clock and their hunger bars are singing. Their mommy call over for food, then it's about 7pm after dinner. Now they start their homework. One of them has to complete the homework on his own because they have only 2 adults(parents) to help.  They are listening music and having conversation even while getting help from their parents. And when they are all finished, then it's after 10 pm. Then their energy bars are singing for bed...

So I'm going to buy a neverweary reward trait for them when they collect 4,000 satisfaction points, otherwise, they can't do anything on week days. :( The Sims 4 sims do everything much slower than the sims 3 sims.

Hm... you can have them do their homework, even with hunger bars not full.  In fact, unless their fun bar is so bad they can't do anything else, I have them do homework first.  Then take care of their needs.

But I noticed they finish the homework more late in lower fun bar. :(

When your sims multitask, whatever primary action they do does slow down. So for example, 'doing homework, listening to music and chatting' will take longer than 'doing homework and listening to music'.

The best thing to do is make sure an adult is helping them to complete their homework then send them to watch TV and chat to fix the other needs. Also I often send teens to bed the moment they get home from school to sleep (not nap) until they energy bar is about 1/4 filled and in the green. Then they eat, watch tv and chat to fix those needs and lastly do their homework. Then I direct them back to bed until morning.

Usually my sims don't ever get their sleep all in one 'normal real life' sleep, usually it's split up around their needs. Just don't let them nap, it fills the energy bar way to slowly to be useful. (Unless they have the Dance Machine trait and can disco nap as that fills the energy a little quicker than the best bed.)

One of them has to complete the homework on his own because they have only 2 adults(parents) to help.

If you have three kids but only two parents, you could always invite a young adult/adult over before the kids start their homework, then have one of the kids "Ask for help with homework."
Even if you don't do it every school day, it will speed up the homework process.
Also, are you getting the "Breeze through homework" and "Dominate homework" interactions?

(I remember where I heard that these interactions are a result of a child being helped with homework--it's Pinstar's Youtube video on "10 Top Tips for Raising Children")

Thank you for the great tip. Yeah I will try that way. I just left them do with their free will actions and yeah maybe that's why it takes ages.  Oh here's one more question.

Is the homework process going faster in focus mood? I can't make them in focus mood every day after school. :(

Sorry but they are all teens. :D It was actually very easy to complete the homework for children. It takes within an hour without getting help from parents. When my teens were children, they could finish their homework include additional one before 5 oclock. Ii heard there's no dominate homework in high school. That's SAD. :D

I'm pretty sure that being focused speeds up the completion of homework. Easiest way is to get someone into a focused mood (by viewing simpedia on a computer, or pondering moves on a chess board) and get them to paint a few mathematical diagrams on a painting easel. Your sim doesn't need painting skill to do this. Then set the paintings on the wall next to where they do their homework and enable to aura (by clicking on the paintings and choosing 'enable aura').

Then get the teens to 'view the focused art' by clicking on the mathematical diagrams. This will give them a 4hr focused moodlet and the aura from being near the mathematical diagrams while doing their homework will boost this. Viewing the art takes moments. It is a very quick way of getting a sim focused.

Painting/drawing the mathematical diagrams takes a while so maybe do this with a sim in the weekend or a non-work day. It will raise the sims logic skill level while drawing it too.  :)

Thanks Playalot. :) I need to ask their mommy sim draw focused picture. She is able to draw all kind of emotional painting. :)  Because the teen sims keep moving their place to another, so I can't make them together in one place.

For example, I gather them into the living room and place the focused light or objects, then I click 'do homework', then one of them just take his homework book out and go out to other room has the bar causes inspire mood. I placed a couple of easels there cuz they can get inspired from bar. And he starts homework in inspired mood. I need to take him out again and let him back into the sitting room to get the homework done. It's kind of annoying. haha.. After completing homework, I ask them to do the additional one, suddenly, they stand holding their homework, then go out to the back yard, then they start the additional homework sitting at the outdoor dining table..  So I think I better use the focused picture, then I can place it wherever they go. hahaha..

For this afternoon, one of them watched the romantic comedy on TV to release his stress, then he finished his homework in flirty mood......It was strong. I gave him the focused light for him, but the flirty happiness was too strong,so I couldn't chnage it..

Actually, I think you can have them skip doing homework for a while. As long as they still go to school, they should keep their A's. The bar has to go all the way to the left before they get a B. And your teen will get a call from the principal before dropping a grade.

If you have a +1 Flirty mood from watching romance on TV, you can overpower it with +2 Logic. So, you could have them Browse Simpedia AND view the Mathematical diagram and they would become focused. If you need +3 Focused to overcome another mood, have them do the previous two actions, then Ponder Moves on the chess table. As Playalot said, none of those things takes very much time.

If you have Spa Day, you can have them take a bath with the citrus soak or do the Mind Concentrating yoga routine, which also raises fun.

When my child/teen reaches A level grade, my routine is to have them do their homework each day with the help of an adult which speeds up the process and gives them the correct emotion - Focused.  Now, to combat the Fun issue, when they go to school, change the activity at school from normal to having fun all day.  As long as they do their homework each day, it's enough to keep their grade up without them really doing any work at school.  They come home with a full fun bar which leaves time for other things.

Yea it's now Friday evening. I just let them have fun and they can do the homework on Sat, but one of them, he already finished his homework himself. I didn't control him at all but he did it himself. So I just asked him have more fun, Don't do any additional homework like a workaholic.  I can try this on Monday evening. :D
