Tell NPC sim age
« on: March 20, 2016, 07:28:45 AM »
I'm sure there must be a topic somewhere already about this but I can't find it.

So is there a way to tell how old a NPC sim is in the game?

If you click on the NPC, you can see underneath the name Teen, Young Adult, Adult, etc. As for a specific age, you have to add the sim to your household. Also, everyone starts at the beginning of their life stage when you start up a game, so if you've played 9 sim days, your elders will possibly die the next day, and 3 sim weeks after you start, your YAs will become adults.

I've only noticed it in this particular game, but it's not always showing even what life stage they age.... Strange.

So there is no way to tell once you are past the first generation really?

I'm sure some people have mentioned in stories that certain NPC's are so and so days from aging up, just thought I was missing something.

I'm surprised Maxis haven't added this in as a patch by now.

The only time my age tags don't show is when I forgot to turn "headlineeffects" (which disables the display of plumbobs, name tags, and club info) back off.
Even if an NPC isn't part of your household, if you take note of when they age up, you can keep track of their approximate age.
If Guest Sim A ages up to an adult during my sim's young adult birthday party, sim A will prob age up to elder a week after my YA sim becomes an adult. My math is probably off, but that's how I do it.

Because of pregnancy, it's trickier to keep track of female sims' age.
Isn't their pregnancy longer if they don't take a pregnancy test?

@oshizu I've never used "headlineeffects" so it can't be that. Plus some sims do show that they are adult/young adult but others don't. Just a bit odd.

I actually ran into this today.  Olivia SKL came to visit and all it would show is her name, not whether she was a teen/young adult.  I haven't had this happen until today.

Yep, I've been running into this recently too. I have noticed that if you cancel the conversation and then start it back up the age info mostly reappears again. Sometimes even just mousing over a different sim and then back to the one in question makes the info appear as well.

Oh no, a new bug.  :-(
Sorry I wasn't more helpful @Tigerskin

And of course now that I've said the "B word," I'll probably get it, too.

It's just my sim is a young adult and is trying to find a wife! I am picky but I try to get a young adult, because it least then they might be able to complete an aspiration. Once they are in the adult stages, there doesn't tend to be enough time.

I know I could use the young again potion... But I just find it frustrating you never know how close they are to elder etc. I hope they patch it in soon.

Thanks for the help everyone  :)

Well, normally, you can at least see if they are teen/young adult/adult/elder, etc, but for some reason, it seems to not be showing up so might be a bug.  I think the only way to know for sure what their exact age is to move them in, which I think someone else pointed out.  I'm not sure there would be a way to see the exact age anytime soon, so not sure it would be something they could patch in, though it would be nice.
