How do I cut my gem?
« on: November 19, 2010, 09:06:30 AM »
Hello, I'm fairly new to this game, having played the original game for about a month quite some time ago and  I've just started WA for about a week, took up the seasoned traveller LTW.

Well i have this little problem, which is regarding cutting the gems I've picked up on my travels. I can't seem to get them cut!
I've been reading the gem guides and googling, but I'm still not exactly sure how do I send my gem to be cut. I thought it would be like smelting where I'd just click on the
metal and the "Smelting" option appears, but there's no such for the gems in my inventory.

Is it because the gems I've found have been cut already? I see eg, pear cut Amethyst, marquis cut Emerald etc. So am I supposed to look out for a plain gem that says simply "Emerald" or something? I haven't seen one yet though

You need to find the uncut gems to be able to send them off to be cut into "gems".  You can find these just like finding the un-smelted metals all around the different towns and also the travel destinations in WA.  It sounds like you are already finding the cut gems in the tombs and such, so try looking on the ground.  It helps to get the collection helper with Lifetime Happiness points.  Then you can set it to just find the gems.  Once you get the uncut gems, you can send them off to be cut just like sending off the metals to be smelted.  I hope I explained this well, if not, just ask for any clarification that you need.  Good luck!

Hey thanks for the quick reply, okay so I'll just save on my points for the collection helper!
Have been reading the metals/gems transfiguration guides, sounds pretty exciting.
Thanks

Gem cutting is indeed nice. But be aware that some cuts are extremely expensive and if you are going to make money out of this I advice you to watch out with what type of cut you will do on what gem. For example: a heart cut form on a diamond is not a great idea if it isn't used for the lack of simply collecting: a heartcut will cost you §1000,- and the outcome of it will mostly not going over that value, so you will lose money.
But choosing a heart form on a pink diamond gem is than just one grat idea: the outcome of it could be worth §2500,- if you're lucky, so you could easly win §1500,- this way.
