Dynasty VS. Legacy?
« on: November 18, 2010, 01:29:31 PM »
Right now I have a Legacy but I kind of want a Dynstaty. But what's the difference between the two? Would it be better to do a Legacy since I Can't post pictures(STUPID CAMERA and laptop!!!)? Or what?

The Immortal Dynasty is a challenge that our very own Metro Man designed for this forum.  You can find details about it here, http://www.carls-sims-3-forum.com/index.php/topic,1810.0.html .

A Legacy is something that Pinstar thought up and posted to The Sims 3 Forum and since you are already playing one you know the rules and such.

I much prefer the Immortal Dynasty challenge myself.  If you were to do a Immortal Dynasty, you do not have to write a story to go along with it if you do not want to.  It is just an option that is available as is writing a story is an option for a legacy.  Ultimately, the choice is yours.  Take some time and go over the Immortal Dynasty thread and see what you think and if you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask them on that thread.

Good luck with your choice, or you could do both!

With the immortal dynasty you have set tasks that you have to complete in order to become immortal. If you fail in any of these tasks then it is game over. With a Legacy there are rules you have to follow, say for instance getting a young adult portrait of any Sims in your legacy house, but if you don't do it the game carries on you just don't score a point for that particular task.
In fact the only thing you really need to do with a legacy is to keep the blood line going for ten generations.
I would say from a personal view point playing a legacy is easier a dynasty is definitely more challenging.

I read that there are rules for the Legacies, and Dynasties but I can't seem to find the rules at all. There is a good chance I am completely missing them but I looked in all the story boards and didn't see them. Could someone please give me a link to them or tell me them? Thank you.

Hello Sondra.

The rules for the Immortal Dynasty can be found here: Immortal Dynasty Challenge Rules

As for the legcay rules, I'm unsure. I think most people follow Pinstar's rules. They can be found here (on the Sims 3 official forum): Pinstar's Legacy Rules

I hope that helps :)

I really don't get what a Legacy is. Does it have to do deal with eating Ambrosia or finding some gem or something? I'm really confused.

Hi Natsuko! You're thinking of two different challenges here. The challenge with the Ambrosia would be the Immortal Dynasty Challenge, which was written by our own Metropolis Man and can be found here. The Legacy challenge was written by Pinstar on the official forum and can be found here (I can't see the page right now, but perhaps you can). Hope that helps!  :)

We've had this question asked a few times, so I'm merging all the threads into one called Dynasty vs. Legacy.

Thanks so much for putting this information in one thread. I wanted to ask what the difference was, but I felt like such a noob. I figured I'd just wander around the board until someone posted the links to the rules for both.

And, now here they are! :D

Thanks, Pam!!

I really don't get what a Legacy is. Does it have to do deal with eating Ambrosia or finding some gem or something? I'm really confused.

Legacies, by Pinstar's rule set, ban the use of Ambrosia, Life Fruit, Death Flowers or anything else that would extend a sim's life.  It's basically a 10 generation family with a group of goals to achieve for purposes of "scoring."  However, nobody is really keeping score, so it's more of a personal challenge than anything.
