Resurrection Cheat
« on: February 29, 2016, 08:33:45 PM »
Hi, I just had one of my sims die while I was off the lot and now I would like to resurrect him outside the normal means. The mod that I had at one time is out of date and the creator isn't updating it anymore so that is out of the question. What I'm looking for is the testing cheats one. There's probably several steps.

I don't know if there is an actual 'resurrect' cheat. You could try the cheats on the Ghost page of the guide and see if they work.

Thanks @Playalot for the link to that page. I'm sure I've looked at it before but either hadn't noticed or forgot about the option to remove a trait from a sim.
I hadn't tried bring a ghost back with the cheats so I had to give it a try and can confirm that it does work. I tried it twice, one with a sim that starved and one that drowned.
I had one of my sims click on the tombstone and summon the ghost and talk with them. Under the friendly category is a option to invite to the household. After making them a member of the house make them the active sim and use the cheat to remove the trait that they died from. For the one that starved it was traits.remove_trait hunger and drowning was traits.remove_trait drown and they was both back among the living quick and easy. :)

What if you don't know how they died? I think he just died of old age and while I was off the lot. So, would it work to put traits.remove_trait old age? I somehow don't think that will work. Maybe just make one of my sims temporarily a best selling author and have them write the book of life? Would that work for somebody who died while I was away playing another lot?

Once you have the ghost in your household like at their traits. There should be a trait saying how they died. Like my sim that I drowned had the trait Died from Drowning. If your sim died of old age they should have a trait showing that.
Writing the Book of Life now wouldn't help. You have to bind the book to a sim before they die. Unless you have a mod that will allow you to bid the book to a ghost. If you want to do that there is a mod that allows that. You can get it here. The mod hasn't been updated in a long time but I use it myself and can say that it still works.

I guess what I'm saying is that there is no ghost; he died while I was playing another household. When that resurrection mod worked, I was able to resurrect a sim who died the same way (playing off lot and accidentally had aging on). I just wish the guy had kept it up to date.

oh ok, I didn't realize you was playing a different household at the time. If the ghost hasn't been culled and you have the Get Together expansion you might run into them at a bar on Ghost Night which is on Wednesday. If they show up there you can try inviting into the household then use the cheat to get them back. Or use the mod I linked too, to bind a Book of the Dead to a ghost.
Other than that I'm not sure what else to try.

@grimsoul

You are so knowledgeable about deathly matters.  I'm starting to suspect that you are actually a sim!  ::)

I'll give it a try. Kind of scared to ask in MTS b/c Buzzler seems to have a bunch of unwritten etiquette rules that I violate. :( I asked about a mod once and got my post removed and a "warning." :(

Well, I've looked and looked, but can't find any current mods to resurrect him so I think I'm just going to have to live w/it, but I've learned a BIG lesson! The only reason I wanted to resurrect him was so that I could get  a tombstone for him. I came to the conclusion last night that even if I did resurrect him, he would probably have 0 skills and 0 items in his inventory. Oh well.

Yes, there just simply aren't cheats for everything, at least not that the devs have released or modders found etc. There isn't really any shortcuts for sims that die outside of your active household.  :-\

I think some of the modders got discouraged by the monthly patches constantly breaking their mods. I can understand that, hopefully though they will continue their great work. Some of the mods are there are quite amazing.

Yes, they are! You're right, they probably did get discouraged by the monthly patches. EA has never patched a game this often before. Now if EA would only fix the tv bug, lol.
